  • Any great reclaimed areas in the city / merchant city? Anyone been to the secret garden in the South side? by hotelier_ (Mon 21st Oct 2019 12:51pm)
  • Walk up this road with my whippet every couple of days. From Merchant City to Finnieston and then back down Sauchihall. by hotelier_ (Tue 4th Feb 2020 7:57pm)
  • Some great points. The vegetarian food thing is spot on. Apparently the most choices out with london. In the south side I like Ranjits Kitchen. The Rolls Royce was a gift to the city. by hotelier_ (Tue 4th Feb 2020 8:27pm)
  • If you were a minority you might well think about “race relations”. Just look at the racist ‘send them home’ comments below any article on the subject. What are your immediate thoughts after hearing about grooming gangs?? -Thoughts and prayers for the kids? -Violent thoughts towards the “cunts”? How is any of that more useful/valid than thinking about the real consequences to minority groups? by hotelier_ (Tue 4th Feb 2020 9:03pm)
  • I know. It’s covered in the most read newspaper in the country... so what exactly is it that they’re not allowed to call out?! by hotelier_ (Tue 4th Feb 2020 9:13pm)
  • Moving over to whole grain rice made a massive difference for me. Felt like I have more energy and get less groggy than when eating refined carbs. Make flavoursome curries, both meat and vegetable. You don’t have to add a lot of oil/fat and other than that they don’t have to be unhealthy at all! Healthy food does not have to be steamed veg. by hotelier_ (Tue 4th Feb 2020 9:41pm)
  • Absolutely agree. Was a mistake using it. Should have been auctioned and proceeds used for something more beneficial. Another things the op will see changed, a lot more people sleeping rough in Glasgow. by hotelier_ (Tue 4th Feb 2020 9:51pm)
  • Love it! 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 by hotelier_ (Sun 23rd Feb 2020 8:02pm)
  • Similar situation in parts of the West End. Always seemed to be a block "missing" when wondering around my old neighborhood. Once I sold my place there, I couldn't bring myself to buy in that area again (North Kelvinside). Flat also had a slight slope that drove me mad. Luckily, it was a very bonny property, and no potential buyers noticed. by hotelier_ (Fri 28th Feb 2020 12:39pm)
  • We were Dune Gardens. Really lovely area. But no, don't miss it! Now in Merchant City. We're actually for sale at the moment too. Lol. [Glasgow live](https://www.glasgowlive.co.uk/news/glasgow-news/gallery/manhattan-merchant-city-chic-new-17807628) You moving away from West End? by hotelier_ (Fri 28th Feb 2020 10:37pm)
  • Blossom on the trees in Glasgow green..... by hotelier_ (Sun 1st Mar 2020 12:33pm)
  • That's hideous. Why would you kick them out of the accommodation so quickly. It's not going to be used for anything else. Hope non of you will return here next season. by hotelier_ (Thu 19th Mar 2020 9:13pm)
  • Any recommendations on their beans? Weeping at the thought of a decent coffee! by hotelier_ (Sat 4th Apr 2020 4:58am)
  • Any recommendations for their coffee?! by hotelier_ (Sat 4th Apr 2020 5:08am)
  • Thanks for standing up for the right thing! by hotelier_ (Sat 4th Apr 2020 5:12am)
  • Agree, 'herd immunity' is still very much their strategy. by hotelier_ (Sat 4th Apr 2020 1:45pm)
  • Think Billy Bilsland Cycles next to Glasgow green looked open. by hotelier_ (Thu 9th Apr 2020 1:29pm)
  • This is SO good!!! by hotelier_ (Tue 14th Apr 2020 12:40am)
  • Broccoli in Oyster sauce with boiled rice. by hotelier_ (Wed 15th Apr 2020 8:09pm)

  • Where is the rugby one?? by hotelier_ (Tue 28th Apr 2020 1:30pm)
  • Yeah especially on a Friday/Saturday. Since Connolly’s got busy it started to get a little too wild out there. by hotelier_ (Tue 28th Apr 2020 1:36pm)
  • Have seen most of them. Don't actually mind this one. Have you seen the big black cat / panther? by hotelier_ (Tue 28th Apr 2020 7:07pm)
  • There's been plans for a multi million pound development in there for a while. Just before lock down, I actually noticed some work going on in there. by hotelier_ (Tue 28th Apr 2020 7:06pm)
  • I moved to Scotland for University 15 years ago and never left (Although I went to Aberdeen and got out of there asap). Scottish nationalism doesn't exist as a reaction to the English (as some English people feel it does). It's based on it's own values and culture. One of those values is actually accepting people from all over. I've never felt unwelcome (and I have the additional bonus of brown skin) and I've lived in the remote Highlands, Aberdeenshire and Glasgow. I consider my self Scottish now but I would never have called myself English before. by hotelier_ (Fri 1st May 2020 5:54pm)
  • During Covid - Merchant City is amazing. So quite and civilised. Non Covid times, it's noisy and no community. But some fantastic properties. I've just sold this: https://www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www.glasgowlive.co.uk/news/glasgow-news/manhattan-style-loft-city-centre-17807523.amp I'll miss it when I move. But looking forward to outside space. by hotelier_ (Mon 4th May 2020 4:34pm)
  • 🙏🏽 It really is a great space. Valued at 315k. Sold for a bit more. Actually lots of really gorgeous buildings in Glasgow, from its hay days as the 'second city of the empire'. Although many have been butchered by developers. by hotelier_ (Tue 5th May 2020 2:01am)
  • Same. Only ever had take out delivered. But it was always particularly good. by hotelier_ (Tue 5th May 2020 6:40am)
  • I love this park ❤️ we took the whippet here last week. by hotelier_ (Wed 13th May 2020 1:51am)
  • Only ever usually walk through, but stopped and went up the hill this time. Our regular park is Glasgow green. Xo by hotelier_ (Wed 13th May 2020 1:57am)
  • Bizarre how many sighthounds we're seeing at the Green, at the moment. Was wondering if there's a reason?! (We walked there daily pre-covid and hardly saw any). by hotelier_ (Wed 13th May 2020 2:08am)
  • We sold just before the lock down. Registrars of Scotland are accepting limited registrations of title. Our exchange date is set for the end of May and solicitor says it’s all set. You solicitor would let you complete missives if you weren’t able to conclude. Personally I’m amazed my buyer still wanted to complete at full pre covid price. But I’m not going to be buying until things settle down. by hotelier_ (Thu 14th May 2020 10:23pm)
  • Don’t really have to / want to do a viewing of the place I rent. We’ve completed missives on our sale. Date of exchange is set for the end of May. So we’re all legally bound, and the registration will take place as usual in the exchange date. by hotelier_ (Thu 14th May 2020 10:26pm)
  • Never understood the daily queues at the merchant city branch - pre covid. I mean it’s good pizza. But still?! by hotelier_ (Fri 15th May 2020 10:32pm)
  • Same. Seen a bunch of these in France. Great ideas. by hotelier_ (Sat 16th May 2020 3:29pm)
  • I liked it fine. Concept of doing a little of something, very well, was refreshing. (Still not worth queuing). Bumped into one of the owners next door at the Spanish Butchers, she was more than a little chuffed at how well it was going. by hotelier_ (Sat 16th May 2020 3:27pm)
  • I like this style of super thin, floppy pizza. Any thicker and I feel like I'm eating a meal of bread. But I'm just not a massive carb person. (or a massive person.) by hotelier_ (Sat 16th May 2020 3:35pm)
  • Except for the Merchant City. Either we're better than others, there are fewer of us or our streets get swept way more often. Probably the last one. by hotelier_ (Sat 16th May 2020 9:24pm)
  • Yeah it's crazy. Sometimes I hear the street sweeping car several times a day. We did also pay crazy council tax. by hotelier_ (Sun 17th May 2020 8:09pm)
  • This is my favourite shop ever. by hotelier_ (Thu 21st May 2020 6:52pm)
  • Babylon is the best. I'm so glad it's been open during lockdown, it's like a little treat for me. They sell sangak bread... I'm often awkwardly walking home with the large bags underneath my arms. They have a large Persian bakery section, that mostly sells sweets. And a decent butchers. All the usual herbs and spices, rose petals, harissa, dried limes and plumbs. They are also really friendly. by hotelier_ (Thu 21st May 2020 7:01pm)
  • I'll keep waiting for my strapping, friendless Aussie to post "Anyone want to talk about indoor plants? Drink Flat Whites? feigning an interest in working out? Let’s be mates” Some day. by hotelier_ (Fri 22nd May 2020 7:58pm)
  • Will have to try their bakalava. If you like Asian sweets, I just discovered Glasgow has a Barfia in the south side. Just off Albert drive. Milk based and creamy but just as sweet. by hotelier_ (Fri 22nd May 2020 8:04pm)
  • Who does the mother and baby tag I’m seeing everywhere?! by hotelier_ (Fri 22nd May 2020 8:05pm)
  • Love this. Getting major New York vibes. by hotelier_ (Sat 23rd May 2020 4:30pm)
  • I think Jupiter is/was also visible recently. Just to the right of Venus. by hotelier_ (Sun 24th May 2020 10:58am)
  • Am I the only one who had to run a humidifier in Glasgow?!! My tropical plants hate anything less than 45% humidity. Opening a window is meant to increase humidity usually. More so in the summer months I think. by hotelier_ (Sun 24th May 2020 11:03am)
  • Ditto check your deeds. When we lived in a conversion in the West end the storage room before the garden access was shared use. by hotelier_ (Sun 24th May 2020 11:07am)
  • Rettie just sold our place. Been in touch throughout. Second time I've used them for selling and they've been great. They also started a new city centre based operations. Partner also just reminded me that we've brought from Countrywide before and they were awful for not replying. by hotelier_ (Sun 24th May 2020 9:43pm)
  • I want to know about all of this??! 😳 by hotelier_ (Sun 24th May 2020 9:40pm)
  • Lol. I would love if my 70 year old, conservative, bearded, Muslim "da's" world had ever collided with 'the steamy' in Glasgow! That would be a story! by hotelier_ (Sun 24th May 2020 11:51pm)
  • Often used to see kingfishers along the Kelvin Walkway between botanic gardens and Kelvin grove park. So beautiful. by hotelier_ (Mon 25th May 2020 11:07am)
  • Same. 🤮 by hotelier_ (Fri 29th May 2020 10:22am)
  • Will look it up. This one might be on iPlayer. Really worth a watch too. The guys are great. Didn't realise they could pinch eachothers birds!!? by hotelier_ (Sun 31st May 2020 2:51pm)
  • Pollokshaws. by hotelier_ (Sun 31st May 2020 5:04pm)
  • Ditto. Only spotted that during a "Covid" walk. Noticing so many more buildings and their details whilst it's been so quiet! by hotelier_ (Mon 1st Jun 2020 12:34pm)
  • Crazy long queue at the drive through on pollokshaws Road. And 3 police officers having to stand at either side of the entrance of the road. For the entire day! Police woman was telling me some people waited an hour and a half.... For a McDonald's. Yikes. by hotelier_ (Tue 2nd Jun 2020 10:43pm)
  • What a waste of their time. And actually closing roads?! Kinda unfair for other road users/local Street residents. by hotelier_ (Tue 2nd Jun 2020 10:46pm)
  • ✊🏽👏🏽 Good one Glasgow!!! by hotelier_ (Sun 7th Jun 2020 5:36pm)
  • That's really beautiful. It's too important a moment for people to stand aside. Risk or no risk. My partner was at the Glasgow Green protest and people were trying to be as sensible as practical. Prior to this, there was also a lot of advice going around for vulnerable people to not attend. The kind of people complaining about protests / not understanding the importance - would definitely have been the same people wrestling folk in supermarkets for loo roll at the begining of this 🙄 by hotelier_ (Sun 7th Jun 2020 7:54pm)
  • That's fantastic to hear!!! ✊🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 by hotelier_ (Sun 7th Jun 2020 8:05pm)
  • I know. It's crazy. Let's clap for nurses and bin men and train drivers. But let's not overcome institutional racism that has been killing them for far longer then Covid. Crazy to hear the first hand stories from ethnic minority nurses in the news. Where they have been actually put into dangerous positions (that they normally wouldn't even be involved in) before their white counterparts. by hotelier_ (Sun 7th Jun 2020 8:10pm)
  • Exactly. The Fing government is about to send everyone back to school and work. Many business owners spreading the same message. But protesting against institutionalised racism is irking some people. Yes. Many poc will have been extra careful or avoided the gathering. Will have been glad to see there are allies in Glasgow. 👏🏽 by hotelier_ (Sun 7th Jun 2020 8:15pm)
  • But... There are worse things going on atm, to vocalise about online - eg national government actively encouraging opening up. Gov Scientists saying Cheltenham was ok. Whaaat?! I'm sure there are at risk groups, who also suffer the double blow of racism, who are quietly very happy that there are people taking (minimal hopefully) risk for them. by hotelier_ (Sun 7th Jun 2020 8:46pm)
  • I agree. But I guess I'm still impressed with them somewhere inside. Let's hope chance was on their side, and there weren't many carriers. by hotelier_ (Sun 7th Jun 2020 9:55pm)
  • That’s horrific. Poor guy. by hotelier_ (Sun 14th Jun 2020 11:02pm)
  • They are angry about a bunch of stuff: Black people. Muslims. Refugees. Brown people. Statues. Liberals. Probably Women. 🤷🏾 by hotelier_ (Sun 14th Jun 2020 11:26pm)
  • It really is terrifying. I lived just around the corner from there until a few weeks ago. I don't think most people CAN understand what it's like to be hated simply for your skin colour. And to be reminded on your door step sucks. I was beginning to feel so smug about living in Scotland vs most of my family down south. Although it is nice to focus on the few people who would step in to help in a dodgy situation, sadly I don't think it's the majority. by hotelier_ (Sun 14th Jun 2020 11:38pm)
  • That was me 😢 As a brown person I've always felt so comfortable in Scotland. But now when I think of it I've also had quite a few dodge experiences - I think sometimes, to survive, we (poc) play these moments down to ourselves. by hotelier_ (Sun 14th Jun 2020 11:45pm)
  • Really don't think you should stick theses racist wankers in the same rant as BLM. I'm totally all about a strict lockdown and sticking to the program - It just doesn't sit right, asking for a quick return to 'normal' after hearing all the racist comments above 😫 by hotelier_ (Sun 14th Jun 2020 11:50pm)
  • I don't think the people in this video particularly care about black lives / brown lives / statues / history / politics. I think they just wanted a brawl. by hotelier_ (Sun 14th Jun 2020 11:56pm)
  • The fact that you so easily equate an anti racism movement to independence or football tells me you're probably not a person of colour. Possibly a prick though. by hotelier_ (Mon 15th Jun 2020 12:09am)
  • 👍🏽 I'll hold you to that. by hotelier_ (Mon 15th Jun 2020 12:12am)
  • Some would say they've been in a Pandemic since birth. Prick. by hotelier_ (Mon 15th Jun 2020 12:17am)
  • I was just away to think up an excuse for the police, like they must have had their hands full 🤦🏽 Why do POC instantly do that!!! You're right! Do your fucking job! by hotelier_ (Mon 15th Jun 2020 12:16am)
  • I'm originally from London but I've lived in Scotland for 15 years. And not really in the most diverse areas; Aberdeenshire, the northern Highlands, Merchant City. I've always felt very much a part of whichever community I've lived in, with of course the usual one off interactions with the occasional arse (racist. But it's scary saying that). A couple of weeks ago I moved to a more multicultural area in the Southside. Its really strange for me that I'm feeling some kind of relief - which is wird and really sad. Having said that, as a minority, I would still choose to live in Scotland over most places in England. I hope my Scottish bubble hasn't fully burst. by hotelier_ (Tue 16th Jun 2020 1:50am)
  • Working class, black, white, we should all call these people out in solidarity. by hotelier_ (Tue 16th Jun 2020 2:45am)
  • I'm very anti littering. I'll pick up rubbish in my area (pre Covid). But one time I was running for a train at Central, and stupidly 😞 dashed my cigarette butt on to the street out side the station. Got fined on the spot. So I guess they can do something. by hotelier_ (Mon 22nd Jun 2020 5:18pm)
  • No. They target quite a large area, (I was in fact not near the enforcement guys). They just need to see you perform a tossing action. Lol. Doesn't matter if you say you will / were going to pick up. Then they give you a ticket. Fair, or unfair, if you do that to a handful of people - visibly, most people would suddenly "remember" their litter. by hotelier_ (Mon 22nd Jun 2020 5:47pm)
  • To be honest, I'm not sure how you're not understanding. Lol. Maybe you've not seen hire they operate?! They aren't running around chasing people. -They stand in one spot. All day. (For example where this camera man is standing). -They casually stare at people. And pick a victim. People will probably even think they are friendly community support officers. (Mine had a santa/grandad look). -Person stands up and walks away from their rubbish. -Person passes the officer. -Hey mate. Here's a forty quid charge. 80 if not paid sooner etc. -Person argues: Unfair. What about. -Officer doesn't give a crap. -Other people start to pull their snickers wrappers closer to their person. I think it would help. Probably not great for the officers during Covid though. by hotelier_ (Mon 22nd Jun 2020 6:06pm)
  • I asked if I could do that. They said no. I remember doing some sad googling on the train and finding that they were correct in giving me a fine regardless of me picking up 🤦🏽‍♂️ Glasgow council website: “Glasgow has a zero tolerance to litter. There's also no requirement within the Environmental Protection Act for Community Enforcement Officers give the opportunity to or request that the litter be picked up after the offence has been committed. Picking up the litter after you have littered would not cancel out the offence or the requirement to issue a Fixed Penalty Notice.” by hotelier_ (Mon 22nd Jun 2020 6:58pm)
  • It’s so annoying. Instantly as a Muslim/brown person, you are not able to simply grieve and mourn during these situations, but also have to worry about the consequences of it being committed by someone who looks like you. by hotelier_ (Fri 26th Jun 2020 2:37pm)
  • It should also be pointed out that no anti knife / rape defence / street violence organisation/specialist would recommend carrying a knife as defence. Most people are more likely to have it used against them. by hotelier_ (Fri 26th Jun 2020 2:46pm)
  • Startfriend said: likely far right or Islamic terrorist. Which is what I was referring to. by hotelier_ (Fri 26th Jun 2020 3:02pm)
  • Yes. That's why they are asylum seekers and not illegal immigrants. by hotelier_ (Sat 27th Jun 2020 2:31am)
  • Hey, your "situation B" is incredibly Unlikely. Really, it's sad and scary that you've somehow come to believe that there is some liberal (?!) force controlling the narrative for asylum seekers. If you want to prove this to yourself, simply look at the content of our most popular papers in this country, they use the most horrific language in relation to asylum seekers. Also, rather than guess at these things, you can find out first hand. There are some beautiful charities in our very city that deal with asylum seekers, you could go and see their lives for yourself. [here's a lovely little paper I just found on the subject](https://www.gla.ac.uk/media/Media_237469_smxx.pdf) by hotelier_ (Sat 27th Jun 2020 11:29am)
  • Weird right?! Anyway BBC hate is more than justified in Scotland. Feels like they have a team who’s job is to make sure the language in relation to Scotland isn’t too positive. by hotelier_ (Tue 30th Jun 2020 11:35am)
  • Yes, they basically all go to Europe. Our local fisherman in the Highlands only did langoustine, although they would sell to local hotels. The most delicious things, aren’t they? But a couple of years of eating them most nights, took the shine off a little bit. What time of year did you visit? The quantities we’d have to buy usually mean that they were only viable in the peak of the season. An interesting observation was the difference in brits vs European families. European children would sit for hours picking away at shellfish (even the langoustines smaller relative, squat lobsters). Where as brits would ask if you could cut their children’s fish to look like fish fingers, or they couldn’t eat it... On fish, it was actually near impossible to get locally caught fish on the west coast. All came from the east. Unless you were willing to buy off the trawler boats, who would get all sorts of bycatch. by hotelier_ (Tue 30th Jun 2020 11:59am)
  • Does anyone know if this one has sweeteners in it? by hotelier_ (Mon 22nd Mar 2021 11:49pm)
  • Loved this grocer when I lived on the South Side for a bit. Get your garlic scapes when they are in season! Lol Sometimes the staff were a little 'too cool for school' considering the prices but never as eye rollingly bad as Roots and Shoots. There's another really nice, but smaller family run grocery shop on Nithsdale road too, Zucchini. For lower prices and much more variety, the Asian cash and carry Strawberry Fields is pretty great. by hotelier_ (Sat 26th Nov 2022 2:31am)
  • Really nice people too 🙂 by hotelier_ (Sat 26th Nov 2022 1:33pm)
  • 🙏🏽 by hotelier_ (Wed 30th Nov 2022 12:15pm)
  • So essentially, beggars (or "fake" gang led beggars) have worked out that people are more likely to give money to them because of a dog. Yikes. by hotelier_ (Sun 4th Dec 2022 11:26am)
  • I lived in the merchant city for a few years whilst on sabbatical. And having lived in Aberdeen, I really appreciated the weather. It does rain a lot, but you can actually use an umbrella! In the NE umbrellas are useless because of the constant wind. I'm not sure how I would have felt about it if I was having to go to work everyday or forced to use the underground during rush hour, in winter with all that humidity. But on a beautiful summer day, it's so lovely, and you can see that everyone makes the most of it, when you walk into any of the big parks. by hotelier_ (Mon 12th Dec 2022 10:52am)
  • 😬 by hotelier_ (Tue 13th Dec 2022 11:42pm)
  • Absolutely! This is all because of policy choice. Meanwhile the media and Westminster: look immigrants. by hotelier_ (Thu 15th Dec 2022 2:50am)
  • What a sad take. So you shouldn't be offended by something if it's not directly happening to you? Also it's not *just* because they *think* someone *might* be offended. It's commonly **known** to be offensive. (Source: literature, documentaries, travel, listening, eyes, news, wiki, Encarta 95, education, human contact) by hotelier_ (Sat 17th Dec 2022 11:23am)
  • That used to be me. Please do be a shitbag and get me told so that maybe I'm not smoking 30 a day by my 35th year 🙏🏽 Quit this year though 🎉 by hotelier_ (Tue 19th Sep 2023 3:55pm)
