  • Sad to hear. Town needs way more places like this and way less sterile chain outlets. Hope he can open up somewhere else. by iledepaques (Sat 26th Jan 2019 10:46pm)
  • Unfortunately I no longer live in Glasgow so couldn't get involved but just wanted to express my respect for the positive attitude, especially in wanting to improve a city that isn't your home one. Wish more people native to Glasgow had the same outlook on this issue. by iledepaques (Tue 29th Jan 2019 7:38pm)
  • Living in Glasgow put me off fish suppers until I tried one from the Oxford on Hill street in Garnethill. Absolutely quality. by iledepaques (Tue 29th Jan 2019 7:47pm)
  • Lol mate what a load of shite I paid just 230 a month to live in Garnethill last year and that was without ‘’knowing’’ people. by iledepaques (Tue 21st May 2019 9:39pm)
  • Thanks for the suggestions - as I suspected there's no ideal way to do it. It's depressing how much the car rules all in this city. Hopefully things improve in future but going to require a massive effort/change in mentality. by iledepaques (Wed 18th Dec 2019 12:24pm)
  • All the stuff you mention is on the part of the path heading south; I was referring to the northbound section heading into town. by iledepaques (Wed 18th Dec 2019 1:43pm)
  • I understand where you’re coming from - I absolutely love cycling but am often put off by the overzealous vibe given off by a lot of the lyrcra-clad cyclists you see out there. Still, can’t imagine Copenhagen has the best of climates but they’ve managed to transform the city into a haven for cycling. Glasgow badly needs less cars on the road - would make the city far more pleasant for all involved. Encouraging/creating infrastructure for cycling is just one way of doing that. by iledepaques (Thu 19th Dec 2019 8:02am)
  • They need to just permanently attach a cone to his heid and be done with it by iledepaques (Mon 29th Jun 2020 4:33pm)
  • In most cases driving is still the most convenient option for getting around the city, so I completely understand why it's the default option for a lot of folk, especially vulnerable groups or those with kids. However, lockdown showed that fare capable of making sacrifices for a greater good instead of just doing what suits them, so I think it's a shame that folk have gone back en masse to an activity that harms the environment and the social atmosphere in the city. I agree that the alternatives need to be better and the authorities need to do more. by iledepaques (Fri 28th Aug 2020 12:04pm)
  • Yeah I didn’t think they made that too clear but it seems to refer to it being at the university itself by iledepaques (Thu 18th Feb 2021 10:07am)
  • I 100% get what you’re saying, and I think the figures should be taken with a very small pinch of salt. Saying that, how do we define what constitutes ‘actual racism’ - should it just be out-and-out abuse? From my experience some of the more subtle, even superficially well-meaning forms of racism can prove just as hurtful as they serve as a reminder of your difference in an environment where you hoped you would be treated like everyone else. A lot of people in Scotland like to think we’re very open-minded whereas in reality we can be extremely insensitive about issues like this. by iledepaques (Thu 18th Feb 2021 10:49am)
  • I briefly worked at Glasgow Life and it was without question the most bloated and mismanaged organisation I’ve been a part of. by iledepaques (Thu 22nd Apr 2021 8:23am)
  • Looks good but I find I just can’t get into a digital paper the same way I can a physical one! by iledepaques (Sun 25th Apr 2021 1:42pm)
  • As Glasgow and its surroundings form Scotland’s dominant urban area, lots of people here never really venture to other parts of Scotland and therefore have a limited understanding of the rest of the country, such as how people speak. The Glasgow accent, regardless of class, is maybe the most recognisably “Scottish” in the country. I grew up in and around Dundee, and a lot of people who live in eastern Scotland, particularly in rural areas (Perthshire, Fife, Angus, Aberdeenshire etc.), are pretty softly-spoken in comparison to Glaswegians. I think a certain big-city arrogance on the part of a lot of Glaswegians leads to them thinking they have a monopoly on true Scottishness. by iledepaques (Tue 11th May 2021 9:05am)

  • If you read a wee bit about the author of Shuggie Bain you’ll realise that the novel is essentially autobiographical. It does lean hard into the post-industrial bleakness, so much so that it may seem excessive, but I see no reason to doubt the novel’s authenticity. by iledepaques (Fri 21st May 2021 4:22pm)
  • Possil may be close to the city centre but debatable on all other points by iledepaques (Thu 12th Aug 2021 4:13pm)
  • I always go ahead on my bike when it’s a green man for pedestrians. Never fucking bothered anyone, not in a giant metal death box so why should I be treated the same as a motor driver by iledepaques (Sat 6th Nov 2021 2:31am)

  • Nah I’ve not been out in ages, I think la cheetah is good though , quite an intimate wee place and a good friendly vibe by iledepaques (Thu 19th May 2022 6:12pm)
  • I actually think large swathes of Glasgow are being gentrified at an alarming pace and at least on the surface appear ‘nicer’ than they did when I first moved here about 12 years ago. Who does this actually benefit though? Sure you can get a mean sourdough and flat white but does that really matter if ordinary folk can’t afford to live here anymore. by iledepaques (Mon 23rd May 2022 1:20pm)
  • Overall though I would say the city has improved in the sense that it’s more diverse and open-minded and less gritty/violent than it was in the past by iledepaques (Mon 23rd May 2022 1:25pm)
  • Ooft right you are, that's interesting by iledepaques (Wed 6th Jul 2022 4:35pm)
  • Yeah that Old College Bar case is very fishy by iledepaques (Wed 6th Jul 2022 4:40pm)
  • Nah of course not. I could have laid out my point a bit more: he's just a guy playing extremely basic and derivative acoustic songs with shite nursery-rhyme level melodies. With other big mainstream artists people have listed I can at least understand the appeal but honestly just was curious as to why people like Gerry Cinnamon. by iledepaques (Tue 12th Jul 2022 4:45pm)
  • Lol when was I greeting pal? Just asking a wee question. by iledepaques (Tue 12th Jul 2022 5:01pm)
  • I know someone who organises 7s games on Tues/Thurs afternoon. Can't seem to pm you otherwise I would have sent you the number by iledepaques (Wed 20th Jul 2022 12:54pm)
  • Gentrification literally equals prices going up. Places are shutting down in the city centre because traditional retail is dying a death and nothing has stepped in to replace it. Go to the southside and the west end and you'll see new shops everywhere and all the traditional cliches of gentrification (flat whites, sourdough etc.) by iledepaques (Wed 20th Jul 2022 3:03pm)
  • I'm so sorry to hear you had to go through that, it's absolutely disgusting that people treat others like this As someone said, it might be worth talking to the police if you feel up to it? If you know roughly what time it was then maybe there's a chance they could identify the car. We need to come down hard on racist pricks like this and make it clear there is absolutely no place for them in society. by iledepaques (Fri 12th Aug 2022 8:05am)
  • Understandably people like to complain about the council, but from a cycling point of view they have actually made big progress over the last few years. I moved back to Glasgow in 2019 and since then there have been lots of new cycle lanes opened up, most notably the south city way connecting queen's park to the city centre. There is still work to be done before it's a proper network, and it's not going to happen without causing severe disruption to traffic routes, but there has been a big improvement over the last few years. I think the bigger problem at this point is actually getting people to ditch the car and jump on their bikes by iledepaques (Thu 29th Dec 2022 3:03pm)

  • Anyone got any insight into what it's like living next to an orange lodge? Seen a great flat in Cessnock near festival park but I'm not sure about living right in among the Union flags and the Louden Tavern etc. by iledepaques (Mon 16th Oct 2023 7:08pm)
