  • You can get free (I think) legal advice from Govan Law Centre. It's a not for profit legal advice service. Is your wife capable of looking after the children? If not, you might also want/need to get social services involved. If your wife is interested in getting help, you could contact Addaction If you feel you need help there are also services for family of addicts such as FASS Sorry, am on mobile or would have added links by musicforone (Tue 7th Jan 2020 4:35pm)
  • I'm Irish but moved from Amsterdam to Edinburgh, then Stirling & then 6 years ago at age 34 moved to Glasgow. I love it here, the people really are awesome, the pubs and nightlife are great, brilliant music scene. If only could change the weather I think I'd be happy! by musicforone (Fri 10th Jan 2020 11:51am)
  • It's definitely not perfect by any means, but I just love the vibe in this city! by musicforone (Fri 10th Jan 2020 2:01pm)
  • Friendly, helpful people on the whole, kinda place you could get chatting to anyone, have a laugh with anyone! Lots of upcoming areas like Shawlands that mean you don't have to go to the city all the time as they now have lots of bars & restaurants. by musicforone (Fri 10th Jan 2020 4:37pm)
  • It was easier when I was younger of course,I went to uni in Stirling, made friends there & through work. I knew a couple of people in Glasgow but in truth don't see them much. So mostly just through work. A lot of my friends now have young children & I don't so my social life has diminished a lot. So I'm thinking of using the Meet Up app to go along to a few things. I'm also thinking of joining a rock choir! by musicforone (Sat 11th Jan 2020 2:15pm)

  • I work for NHS & got the first part on the 23rd. We got an email to say those who are due the second part in the next two weeks will go ahead. But they're waiting for Scottish government to confirm what happens with the rest. I'm not due to the 22nd for the second dose, so it's all up in the air. It's ridiculous. You're not protected with one dose so why prioritise first doses over fully vaccinating the people who've had the first. by musicforone (Thu 31st Dec 2020 5:08pm)
  • According to the BMJ it provides 52% protection after the first dose. https://www.bmj.com/content/371/bmj.m4826 by musicforone (Thu 31st Dec 2020 5:26pm)

  • I didn't mean to imply that the band were being fussy, I've seen them a dozen times and they're always amazing. But it was very light rain which is to be expected in Scotland so it seemed baffling that their set up wasn't safe. by musicforone (Tue 28th Jun 2022 3:34pm)

  • PureGym has branches all over and the gym membership gives you access to them all, I think it's about £20 p/m by musicforone (Wed 6th Jul 2022 10:34am)
  • I would start with your GP as they'll be able to signpost/refer you to mental health services. However, also look up your local mental health team, usually called a "primary care mental health team". This is the one for the south of Glasgow who also take self referrals : https://www.wellbeing-glasgow.org.uk/ They have a really good website (anyone can use the materials on the site but you can only refer to them if you're in the south.) There will be a wait for therapy so: If you can afford private therapy a good place to look is https://www.psychologytoday.com/gb/counselling/sct/glasgow and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy is often the best option as it has the most evidence that it helps with anxiety, depression etc. Hope this helps. by musicforone (Thu 7th Jul 2022 10:01pm)
  • No worries, good luck and hope you feel better soon by musicforone (Fri 8th Jul 2022 7:08am)
  • Not everybody needs psychiatry though. I work in mental health and only a small portion of p people who have mental health issues need psychiatry as in most cases their GP is sufficient in terms of medication needs. Glad you managed to get some help, it is so hard when you need to get private therapy but £35 is a great rate, I haven't seen many under £70 by musicforone (Fri 8th Jul 2022 7:15am)

  • I agree that it's not a good place to make friends. 90% of the people have headphones in and even if you do ask a question they're generally polite but just wanna get back to their workout and listening to their music/podcasts. Maybe a gym class might be more effective but probably only if you go the the same one consistently and see the same people over a long period of time. by musicforone (Fri 29th Jul 2022 3:02pm)
  • Addaction no longer has the tender for addiction services. The new one is called Turning Point and you can self-refer and they offer all sorts of support. (Source: I work in MH and had a meeting with them recently) Good luck. First step is recognising the problem and wanting to change. Well done by musicforone (Fri 29th Jul 2022 5:49pm)
  • Ah you could be right about CaRes. I work in NHS Lanarkshire so got mixed up. Turning Point is definitely Glasgow & Lanarkshire though by musicforone (Fri 29th Jul 2022 6:12pm)
  • Interested to hear this as the flat below me in my tenement (Southside) is an AirBnB & I've had to contract the owner through AirBnB because the people staying there have been so noisy & disruptive, and had zero shits to give that they're disturbing residents. • A very nice older taxi driver recently told me that as soon as you get in a cab, take note of the 4 digit driver code which will be on both the back windows. If there are any issues with the driver's behaviour, don't go to the taxi company as like many have responded they don't care. Go to the council taxi licensing office and they will respond to you and possibly withdraw the driver's license to drive a cab. It's not ideal but it's better than nothing. by musicforone (Tue 29th Nov 2022 6:04pm)
  • I'd love to but uber's fares are through the roof now, even just on daytime journeys. Black cabs seem much more expensive than GlasGo (although I've not got one for a while). So, there's very little option when you don't drive and public transport is an even worse shambles by musicforone (Tue 29th Nov 2022 6:07pm)

  • It was just so nice to meet a really kindly, caring driver as well. He got me to look to see where they were and they're on both windows and only a 4 digit code. He advised me to type or into my phone as soon as I get into the car, especially if you have any concerns. by musicforone (Tue 29th Nov 2022 9:02pm)
