  • Kilmarnock road / Pollokshaws road has quite a few, depending on what you’re after. For furniture - BRC & Salvation Army on Dumbarton road are your best bet. by CampaignHelpful4859 (Wed 17th Nov 2021 2:09pm)
  • Try GlasGo (fare ~£20 - prebook ahead!) or the airport express bus. Used the airport express bus pre-covid and it was handy. During covid it wasn’t running as often a service so would check before relying on it. It’s a 15 min trip to the airport, and I think the ticket was ~£8. I wouldn’t rely on Uber. I’m an ex-Londoner, and the first time I called one, it was 22 minutes away 😭 when my experience had always been one always 2/3 minutes at most. by CampaignHelpful4859 (Wed 17th Nov 2021 9:46pm)

  • Partenope - I drop in for a few hours sometimes for a bit of change from my desk. It is quite small though and gets v busy around lunchtime so I’d advise going in before the lunch rush. They close 4:30. WiFi is decent, a few sockets about. by CampaignHelpful4859 (Tue 1st Mar 2022 10:32pm)

  • Set your budget & area on Rightmove app, save the search and set email notifications to send immediately rather than once a day / week. Once you see notification, call the estate agent’s office rather than trying to email to get a viewing. That’s one way to try and get into the first set of viewings. Try and be flexible as much to be able to attend viewings, if you try for a later one, chances are the property will be gone. Don’t apply for properties where the rent would be more than 1/3 of your take home pay. by CampaignHelpful4859 (Tue 1st Mar 2022 11:09pm)
  • That’s tough going, I’m sorry! Afaik agencies won’t allow you to apply for tenancy unless you’ve attended a viewing. Might be worth going the private landlord route - have you tried openrent website? Have seen some ads where the landlord will do a “virtual viewing”. Good luck! by CampaignHelpful4859 (Tue 1st Mar 2022 11:25pm)
  • Basically, this was me. We didn’t have snow the night before, just colder temperatures. The slope down to the pond is where a lot of the water runs down and just had frozen and in the shade wasn’t that visible as being any different from the pavement. Now I know better! Also happy cake day 🍰 by CampaignHelpful4859 (Wed 2nd Mar 2022 11:39am)

  • Husband and I wrote a note with our names, a bit about us and our contact numbers, and gave each of our neighbours a plate of cakes and biscuits - but we did move on a religious holiday and there was an abundance of cake and biscuits about. Moving is stressful enough without adding baking to the mix. We went round and said hello and met everyone briefly. Since then we say hello on the stairwells, and sometimes take in each other’s parcels. I have 2 of my neighbours numbers, the rest didn’t message and I haven’t pushed it. Do whatever feels comfortable for you :) by CampaignHelpful4859 (Fri 8th Apr 2022 9:50am)

  • If you’re getting a mortgage, would be worth checking if you’re able to get one at all. A lot of providers won’t because it’s a riskier prospect - possible fire-risk, noise / smells / unsociable hours affecting resale value etc. I’ve seen some ads where the seller will ask for “cash offers only” as presumably people have shown interest and later on found they weren’t able to secure a mortgage. by CampaignHelpful4859 (Mon 9th May 2022 12:14pm)

  • Very convenient if working at Barclays. Have a colleague living there at the moment. It’s swanky inside - private dining room for hire, building gym, snooker tables and breakout areas. Extortionate rent though but decent facilities. Feels like serviced apartments, I’m guessing it’ll be taken over by companies booking them for colleagues working cross-location. More a short term stopgap than long term living solution. by CampaignHelpful4859 (Sun 20th Nov 2022 3:20pm)
  • It’s not that easy. When I’ve attended viewings, those interested fill in a form, essentially telling the letting agency about you and your circumstances. They show it to the landlord and he picks the best pick. Maybe it depends on area, but this was in Shawlands for reference. by CampaignHelpful4859 (Wed 21st Dec 2022 8:54pm)

  • I’ve not been before. I’m experimenting with 2G2G - trying cafes in the locale with not much loss if they’re not great. Worst is when you spend £3-4 on a pastry only for it to be disappointing. I plan to go back and sit in and try their coffee! by CampaignHelpful4859 (Thu 16th Feb 2023 10:18pm)
  • Cheers, will look them up. Previous owners of our flat were kind enough to leave a set of thin curtains in the living room, but desperately need some thick curtains cos our living room is basically unusable in the winter even with the heating on. by CampaignHelpful4859 (Fri 17th Feb 2023 11:23pm)

Went for the Sherlock holmes but they have quite a few other ones: https://www.escape.game/escape-glasgow?gclid=EAIaIQobChMIj7a03brP_QIVKoBQBh0R0A-QEAAYASAAEgJUqfD_BwE by CampaignHelpful4859 (Thu 9th Mar 2023 6:18pm)
  • Our old flat in shawlands was £600 a month for the 2.5 years we were there. Landlord didn’t up price the whole time we were in it. As soon as we left, it was advertised as £750. Snapped up in a week. It was a ground floor, cold, tenement flat with a mould issue. 620 is decent. by CampaignHelpful4859 (Mon 3rd Apr 2023 3:49pm)

  • Olio might be a good place to look. It used to be for just surplus food, but have seen listings for plates and homewares quite a lot. There’s a stretch of Dumbarton road that’s has 10-12 charity shops, highly recommend the big Salvation Army (91 Dumbarton road - there’s two on the same road) one for furniture and homewares. by CampaignHelpful4859 (Mon 17th Apr 2023 7:51pm)

  • Firstly, Book in advance as much as you can. Tickets are released I think 12 weeks ahead. If you know your travel plans a few months in advance, book as soon as you know. Secondly - In terms of discounts for specific times of the day, if part of your journey is at peak time and part isn’t, you can attempt split ticketing. Essentially rather than charging you peak price for the whole journey, it splits up the journey into multiple splits. A lot of the time you can keep your seat, you just have to show the conductor multiple tickets. It’s generally cheaper to book directly with the train providers (they don’t charge a booking fee) but they don’t do split ticketing, so check on Trainline if that’s a ticket option. Trainline charge a booking fee so calculate whether split ticketing fee discount is great enough that it’s worth it with the booking fee. Thirdly - with a railcard you can get a third off travel. There are different categories. I’m too old for a young persons railcard, but my husband and I travel using a two together card. A railcard costs about £30 a year. For us it knocks ~£100 off long journeys so worth it with just one trip. It requires us to be travelling together as the name suggests. Again, calculate if you’ll use it enough to make it worth it. It’s valid on small intercity journeys too. by CampaignHelpful4859 (Thu 20th Apr 2023 8:55am)
  • Seems to be an issue with three: https://twitter.com/telegraph/status/1650140554632503296?s=46&t=Gv3Xm9TpQcYcbbeqoSX2Yg Also double check in your notification settings if you have emergency and severe notifications on. I’d never seen them before but mine were by default on. My friends’ were off. by CampaignHelpful4859 (Sun 23rd Apr 2023 3:24pm)
  • If you want an example of why it costs less - Say you’re travelling on the 9am train to London. 9am is peak-time, so rather than your whole ticket being charged at peak hour pricing, you can choose to split your journey. So you’ll buy a ticket say from Glasgow to Carlisle. It’s an hour and a bit, so by the time you arrive to Carlisle it’s 10:30 and off peak. The second leg of the journey is now charged at off peak pricing. One ticket - All peak - £180 Split - Glasgow - Carlisle (Peak) - £25 + Carlisle - London (off peak) £80 = £105 Voila, you’ve saved £75 by CampaignHelpful4859 (Mon 24th Apr 2023 9:54am)
