  • I work for a national mental health charity, and have received MH support myself in Glasgow - though a good 7 or so years ago. Our services (SAMH) generally need a GP or social work referral but we have a info service which can advise. For psychological therapies (on NHS) you will generally need a referral from your GP and then a mental health assessment. If you go this route you can ask for a therapy other than CBT, though waits might be long. And by long months and months unfortunately. With covid it will also be video based therapy. I would also strongly second the earlier suggestion of LifeLink they really really helped me before I got psychotherapy though the NHS and I believe they have a self referral service. by Crjs1 (Wed 23rd Sep 2020 7:46pm)
  • Had same at the friggin chemist yesterday! Some teenage fanny on the street randomly ripping the piss out of me when I was leaving chemist. It’s folk who have their mask round the mouth but not nose that really do my head in. by Crjs1 (Thu 24th Sep 2020 5:23pm)
  • People on both ‘sides’ need to be sensible. If your wee dog doesn’t know to come back when called and is obsessed wi running up to other dogs (or children) and being a nuisance then it should be on a leas and trained. On other hand if your dog gets so stressed wi a dog running up to it that it mauls it then shouldn’t just be on a lead but should be muzzled. Plus so many dog owners with the whole ‘he fine he just playing’ patter as their dog jumping up on a kid need to remember loads of kids like my niece terrified of strangers dogs no matter how ‘friendly’ you think it is, get it under control. by Crjs1 (Mon 28th Sep 2020 7:22pm)
  • I guess it’s just hard to know when that’s going to be? Seems like people have been saying the market going to burst for months and it just keeps on going… plus it hard to tell if the market will just slow down rather than prices actually dropping… but you right it can’t keep going up like this. by Crjs1 (Fri 30th Jul 2021 12:43pm)
  • Cheers! Knightswood is def one of the areas we looking at. It’s not somewhere I know at all, but done a few drive throughs and exploring. The bit near the park seems really nice. Yeah we have a mortgage in principle and can move quick so that a bonus! Just really hard to know what to offer to be within a chance.. Enjoy your new house! by Crjs1 (Fri 30th Jul 2021 12:39pm)
  • Congrats on getting the flat! That what I keep hearing from folk I speak to, offer early and try to get seller to take off market. by Crjs1 (Fri 30th Jul 2021 1:06pm)
  • That’s super helpful cheers! by Crjs1 (Fri 30th Jul 2021 7:16pm)
  • 10% over HR seems to the norm in south side at moment. I feel your pain. Me and my partner are currently in house hunting hell at moment… In saying that you can be lucky. For example seller might br looking for quick sale, or if you are looking to get a ‘doer upper’ that needs renovation. Also the south side (and west end) is in total demand but there are other parts of Glasgow and surrounding areas where prices not (quite) as nuts. So widening search may be option. by Crjs1 (Mon 16th Aug 2021 10:28pm)
  • Think it’s pretty guaranteed…. Our office and lots of others in city centre are closing for COP26 as expecting chaos in city centre (I still working from home so no change for me) I am totally stressed through as my partner in the Queen Elizabeth hospital and has been for weeks after spinal surgery went wrong…. He is pretty unwell and I visit daily coming through from dennistoun…. The M8 is already chaos especially at rush hour so I dreading 😟 trying to get over during COP26. With Clydesdidr expresss shut for it the m8 is going to be even worse even without folk bloody gluing themselves to the road…. Not to be all poor me - I’m v aware of climate change and its impact especially on worlds poorest - but seeing my partner for visiting is a huge deal for us. by Crjs1 (Thu 14th Oct 2021 2:51pm)
  • Had my booster at the Mosque today. Tiny queue, was in and out in 15 mins by Crjs1 (Tue 28th Dec 2021 12:29pm)
  • SNP 1 & 2 then Green. Still deciding further down the ballot. While SNP have not transformed Glasgow so far, they have been dealing with legacy of Labour’s equal pay fiasco, plus covid. Think they need another term in Glasgow. If they win and feck up this term then they will loose my vote. After decades of Labour (btw I’m a former lab member until 2014 referendum) think it’s harsh to expect SNP to have turned it all round in one term. by Crjs1 (Mon 2nd May 2022 9:14pm)
  • Absolutely, my partner has significant mobility issues after spinal surgery complications last year and requires a wheelchair. It’s been a whirlpool for him and me adjusting to needing care and the change in our lives. It’s what seems like wee things - like twats parking in front of dropped kerbs - that really impacts him (and me as I try to get wheelchair up a kerb) and make a big difference to his independence. On a side note the Glasgow Home care team have been totally amazing and genuinely kind! I’m on a huge waiting lister for carers suppprt but can’t fault the social care team by Crjs1 (Mon 2nd May 2022 11:10pm)
  • Love it and reread it often, one of my fav books. Though all time favourite is 1982 Janine. Really enjoyed his later work too like his translations of the Divine Comedy. Basically alasdair was a genius by Crjs1 (Thu 5th May 2022 9:04pm)
  • The amount of folk who moan about the ‘council’ while happily throwing thier crap all over the streets. More seriously hate the money grabbing landlords letting our historic architecture fall apart or burn down.. (again the council get the blame for this despite having pretty limited powers to reign in landlords who won’t upkeep or sell their buildings) by Crjs1 (Sat 28th May 2022 10:19pm)
  • It’s a nightmare but doable with luck. Me and partner moved from dennistoun a couple months ago due to disability meaning top floor tennant we were renting for years was no longer suitable. My advice, be open minded about area! We are now in Sandyhills beside shettleston and loving it, have a garden etc and cheaper than what we’re paying in Dennistoun. Only a few train stops from town. We got lucky on OpenRent, much easier than going though agent etc. gumtree good too. It is a shitshow at moment though we lost out on places here and Riddrie, Tollcross… as people were offering months and months rent upfront. Try and get in for viewing as soon as place goes online. We were finding viewings booked up within days of places going online. As I say though we were lucky and love our wee place in Sandyhills. Def look further afield than hot spots like dennistoun and south side. We also made a few applications for housing associations. Though wait can be long. Plus it daft that you need to fill different application for each housing association, with there was just one application Glasgow wide. In the end we couldn’t wait on social housing (as bf was housebound) so went private rent. by Crjs1 (Sat 28th May 2022 10:59pm)

  • Generally feel pretty safe in Glasgow, very very rarely had any bother coming in and out of gay bars or if holding partners hand. Occasionally giggle or comment from drunken neds but nothing threatening. TBH feel much more threatened when I going for a run lol lol can’t count the times randoms - usually steaming - have shouted or thought it hilarious to jog alongside me or jump in front of me at Tollcross park. To be fair it usually hilarious. Growing up in Aberdeen I felt much more threatened and got much much more abuse being gay, especially when on nights out and stuff. Been in Glasgow near 20 years now and can barely count on a hand the times I genuinely felt threatened. by Crjs1 (Wed 15th Jun 2022 9:30pm)

  • Yip reverse snobbery is nearly as common as bog standard snobbery on here. Your not a class traitor for growing up in a scheme and going to university (as long as your not a prick about it lol) by Crjs1 (Thu 21st Jul 2022 9:23pm)
  • That the council isn’t that bad and isn’t to blame for every bit of shite or litter lying about.. and it’s not to blame for empty shops (global pandemic and online shopping anyone?). The council has pretty limited powers or money to fix longstanding problems like poverty or changing work patterns so shouldn’t get the blame. Folk using the streets, road verges as their personal bin are to blame for the place looking like a shit hole… there are loads of actual bins everywhere, use them by Crjs1 (Thu 21st Jul 2022 9:47pm)
  • Good, the site is currently an eyesore gap site at least the building is somewhat in keeping with its surrounds. Would prefer they recreated the original facade though. Still much better than keeping it a gap site by Crjs1 (Mon 22nd Aug 2022 9:33pm)
  • Looks great! Would add in Sandyhills, between shettleston/tollcross/mount vernon. Mainly as I live there! by Crjs1 (Mon 27th Feb 2023 9:17pm)
