  • Plus ScotRail will be fined by Transport Scotland for sending a train out in this condition. Someone had to make the decision whether to accept the fine (plus pay cleaning costs) , or potentially disrupt hundreds of passengers by cancelling or short forming several trains - and still pay to clean the train. by Hoyerman68 (Thu 7th Mar 2019 4:47pm)
  • The offence is having a train in service with graffiti. The same kind of thing applies if graffiti is found inside the train, it’s dirty, lightbulbs out, seats damaged etc. There is actually a group of full time paid travelling inspectors who are continually checking all trains and stations to ensure they meet the minimum standards laid out in the franchise agreement. by Hoyerman68 (Fri 8th Mar 2019 8:28am)
  • If you can do any better, then you’re welcome to try. It’s a bit more complicated than you think to actually run a railway - especially one as diverse as ScotRail. by Hoyerman68 (Fri 8th Mar 2019 8:31am)
  • I just feel I should thank you for your considered, detailed and eloquent criticism of my image. Once I recover from the soul crushing disappointment I felt on receiving your critique, I’ll be sure to spend time weighing and considering your valuable input and suggestions. You can be sure that I will certainly bear these in mind to enhance any future creations, but I must reassure you that I will refrain from any further creative endeavours until I truly feel I have attained the high artistic standards you so clearly seek. by Hoyerman68 (Sun 10th Mar 2019 8:30am)
  • Everyone is absolutely entitled to their own opinion and I will be honest and say that I do genuinely welcome yours. I take images that intrigue and interest me, not because I necessarily think they must always have some kind of outstanding artistic merit or tell a particular story. Sometimes I like the challenge of creating an image where one isn’t immediately obvious or just attempting to take the “same” image everyone else takes differently. Sometimes I like to push myself to try unusual techniques or methods just to see if I can do it. Little Planets are pretty divisive. Generally I find that people don’t recognise many of the Little Planet images I take, but can feel that there’s maybe something strangely familiar about it. If other people like them then that’s good, but unless it’s a commercial commission, I take pictures for me - and sometimes I share them. I don’t know what your style of photography is or how successful you may (or may not) be, nor have I seen any of your images that I’m aware of, so I obviously don’t know what I think about them. If you send me a link, then I’m happy to look and see what I can learn from them for myself, because I know that I’ll never stop learning from others. If I don’t like them, then that’s fine. What I do know is I would never just comment “pish” on any public forum and then get my knitting ripped because someone commented on your reply - not on your opinion. by Hoyerman68 (Sun 10th Mar 2019 10:17am)

  • No - Pentax K-5, 32 individual shots, a lot of stitching and then changing the image to create the little planet. by Hoyerman68 (Sun 10th Mar 2019 10:01pm)
  • Must have been! The rope ladder was definitely the most interesting obstacle to shoot! by Hoyerman68 (Mon 25th Mar 2019 6:23pm)
  • 420M swim and 7 lock gate climbs in water at 8 degrees C (a fair bit warmer than last year!) . One of the competitors told me that climbing the rope ladder was like being waterboarded by the Arctic Ocean. 4 of the climbs were big as above, plus there were 3 other 1m climbs up a rope onto the lock gates. • I’ll add a photo of the camera later, but as far as developing, that was very easily done by Snappy Snaps in Partick! It’s just a standard C41 process. I don’t get them printed, as nobody locally has the equipment for that, it’s just a develop only service. I scan the negatives later using a slide scanner. by Hoyerman68 (Sat 15th Jun 2019 9:17am)
  • Thank you for the best comment and greatest compliment I’ve ever received! by Hoyerman68 (Sat 15th Jun 2019 9:22am)
  • [Here](https://imgur.com/gallery/P9gCoRl) is a photo of the camera I used for the picture. This is the COMPLETE camera - there aren’t any other lenses or bits... by Hoyerman68 (Sun 16th Jun 2019 12:05am)

  • Planned - been thinking about it for a while - and there are only a few days twice each year when the shadow is just right... if the weather is good enough! Managed to hit it lucky with date, time and weather heading into work today! by Hoyerman68 (Fri 20th Sep 2019 11:30pm)

  • I took it with my own home made pinhole camera - I made this one from an old 35mm film canister. Same type of image though. by Hoyerman68 (Sun 15th Dec 2019 9:04am)

  • DELETED Some days, irony is obviously just something Chinese people do in a laundry... by Hoyerman68 (Mon 23rd Dec 2019 10:21am)
  • Yup. Ive recently changed jobs in my company, so had arranged to go into my old office to meet my old boss to hand in a laptop and pick up some paperwork. Had 40 minutes to wait on a train afterwards. by Hoyerman68 (Wed 29th Apr 2020 6:41am)
  • Basically yes. It started life as 48 separate DSLR images. I made those into a panorama, then exited that into the Little Planet. by Hoyerman68 (Wed 29th Apr 2020 6:46am)
  • I will - once my photo printer reopens! by Hoyerman68 (Wed 29th Apr 2020 6:51am)
  • Taking the images was only 5 minutes (no tripod - just all handheld from one spot). Probably around half an hour for the stitching and editing after I got home. Stitching 48 x 10 megapixel images into a single panorama was by far the longest part. by Hoyerman68 (Wed 29th Apr 2020 9:11am)
  • Neither - a standard DSLR with an 18-135 lens, plus a combination of Microsoft ICE, GetPaint.net and Lightroom. by Hoyerman68 (Thu 30th Apr 2020 7:29am)
  • Thanks. This is around 9 individual DSLR shots stitched into a single panorama, resized, then wrapped into a little planet using Paint.net. by Hoyerman68 (Sun 10th May 2020 12:53pm)
  • Not too difficult - but you do need to think and plan the picture in advance for the best results. There’s a few tutorials on YouTube. by Hoyerman68 (Mon 11th May 2020 12:54am)

  • Thanks. It should actually be a negative image of this, but I did it this way to save printer ink, but still he able to learn the process. by Hoyerman68 (Mon 11th May 2020 7:49pm)
  • Thanks. Lots of things to improve, but I’m pretty happy with this as a first try! It should actually be a negative image of this, but I did it this way because it used a lot less ink to print the negative, but still gave me a feel for the process. by Hoyerman68 (Mon 11th May 2020 7:48pm)
  • Thanks! by Hoyerman68 (Mon 11th May 2020 11:29pm)
  • I just might have some like with the squinty bridge on them... I’ve got loads of versions of this! by Hoyerman68 (Tue 12th May 2020 6:14pm)
  • Thanks! The “Glasgow” was only added because I had space at the bottom of the negative - and I wanted to see how lettering would come out. by Hoyerman68 (Tue 12th May 2020 6:13pm)
  • Thanks! by Hoyerman68 (Tue 12th May 2020 6:15pm)
  • Sorry to burst your bubble here - but your comment is actually totally incorrect. If you were actually interested (And I suspect you're not), I coated some watercolour paper in a light sensitive mixture of Potassium ferricyanide and Ferric ammonium citrate and dried it on top of my hot water tank. I then created a digital negative by printing an original image of my own onto OHP transparency film in B&W. I put the negative on top of the paper in my Cyanotype frame, laid a sheet of clear glass on it and then put it out in the sunshine for 15 minutes. I then brought it back in, took out the paper and washed off the chemical residue. I was left with this unedited image. I think you'll find that that is actually (by any definition you care to make) a very real Cyanotype. PS - The moon landings were real and the earth is a sphere too... by Hoyerman68 (Wed 13th May 2020 3:23pm)
  • Hi there - I just picked them up from Amazon (sorry for the delay in replying - I got banned for 7 days for posting another picture)! by Hoyerman68 (Fri 22nd May 2020 6:23pm)
  • Hi there. Sorry it’s taken a few days to reply, but I was banned for 7 days for posting another photo... I just picked the chemicals up from Amazon. If you google the Real Photography Company in Bristol, they have some stuff on their website where you can also do photograms at home with things like spinach, beetroot and turmeric! by Hoyerman68 (Sun 24th May 2020 8:21am)
  • I know there was around 70 people who got off the last train from Edinburgh at Queen St last night - Busiest train I’ve seen since this all started. by Hoyerman68 (Sun 31st May 2020 9:36am)
  • Loved it when St Vincent St was closed recently for roadworks. If it was up to me I’d pedestrianise the whole city centre from Hope St to High St and Cathedral St to Clyde St. by Hoyerman68 (Sun 31st May 2020 9:42am)
  • That’s the Argyll line from Anderston to Bridgetown. It runs under the road all the way along the north side of Glasgow Green. by Hoyerman68 (Thu 4th Jun 2020 10:50am)
  • No 360 camera. This is 38 separate DSLR images stitched into a single 360 panorama, then that is resized and modified into the Little Planet shape. Your right that there are several phone apps that do this - but you can’t do a proper seamless 360 panorama with a phone. You could do this with a 360 camera... but I don’t have one! by Hoyerman68 (Tue 21st Jul 2020 7:39am)
  • Thanks! by Hoyerman68 (Tue 21st Jul 2020 7:40am)
  • 3 routes on the train from Edinburgh - Queen St. Via Falkirk High - around 42-50 minutes, up to 4 trains per hour. Via Cumbernauld- 1Hr 20 min, 2 trains per hour. Via Bathgate/Airdrie to Queen St Low Level - 1 Hr 20 min, up to 4 trains per hour (trains for Milngavie & Helensburgh) I just drive the trains, so I’ve genuinely no idea about ticket prices, but you can get a 16-25 Railcard (which is also available to mature students) that gets up to 1/3 off the price - plus you can get a Flexipass (up to 10 journeys within a month) which is aimed at regular travellers that can’t justify a season ticket. If you ask at the ticket office in the station, they can advise you best. Hope this helps? by Hoyerman68 (Fri 7th Aug 2020 9:26pm)
  • There’s quite a few. I drove 2 on Thursday and arrived 2 minutes early both times...👍 by Hoyerman68 (Sat 8th Aug 2020 8:14am)
  • I really have no idea... by Hoyerman68 (Fri 14th Aug 2020 5:36am)
  • No app involved! This is 26 seperate DSLR images stitched into a single panorama, then applying a "Polar transformation" to get the Little Planet effect. by Hoyerman68 (Fri 11th Dec 2020 4:39pm)
  • You can do it in photoshop - I used GetPaint.net! by Hoyerman68 (Sun 13th Dec 2020 1:29am)
  • No - this was a standard DSLR image converted to B&W, then inverted and printed on to a inkjet ohp sheet. This was then contact printed onto chemically treated paper in direct sunshine for around 15 minutes outside my back door, then washed in tap water to reveal the final image. by Hoyerman68 (Mon 4th Jan 2021 1:58pm)
