  • I will be there, hopefully Wifi will work better this week! by IkazUK (Thu 23rd Jul 2020 6:58pm)
  • I am in week 3 of working from home, only had one week in the whole of last year. I am really struggling to focus on the tasks at hand, nothing seems important enough that I need to do it now. Completely with you on this one. by IkazUK (Mon 18th Jan 2021 12:56pm)
  • Thanks! I will go and hunt for some beer now, I need to re-stock by IkazUK (Thu 28th Jan 2021 9:17am)
  • That is exactly where I am right now, I have the funds and an opportunity to travel to Asia at the end of the year (if the borders open) and was keen to get certified before travelling by IkazUK (Sat 6th Feb 2021 10:00am)
  • Mainly because PADI seems to be more recognised abroad and I don't want to have to get cross-certified (if that is a thing) when I arrive. I don't know the difference, I will look into the exact requirements from our hotel. Do you have any experience with BSAC? by IkazUK (Sat 6th Feb 2021 10:07am)
  • That is really helpful yes, thanks for taking the time to answer and provide so much information! We have no experience and are trying to plan a trip to the Maldives in September, our hotel does offer PADI certifications, but at £860 per person for the open water certification, we are keen to do it before hand. And it would most probably be easier to get it all sorted before leaving to allow us to hit the ground running when/if we arrive there. As it is a trip to the maldives, we are not going to be able to bring any diving kit with us either, so we most probably wouldn't buy much before getting certified if that changes anything. I must say that I actually look forward to trying out diving in Scotland, even with the the wonderful Scottish weather. There seems to be some incredible places around here and it would be nice to see them from a different perspective. We might join a club once this is all out of the way, in which case I might reach out to you. Regarding the operators, the Scuba Diving Scotland was the one that I had somehow kept in line, good to hear that recommendation from you. I will reach out to them to see if it feel right for me. by IkazUK (Sat 6th Feb 2021 10:24am)
  • That sounds more like a post-diving pub activity to me!... by IkazUK (Sat 6th Feb 2021 10:26am)
  • That's helpful to know, thanks for the insight. I will have to balance paying now against waiting and being last in line if things do start moving along. I hope that you manage to get through when they re-open! by IkazUK (Sat 6th Feb 2021 1:40pm)
  • Thanks again for the insights, to add some extra background, I am not going to be stressed if we don't get certified before we leave, but if we don't we won't be able to afford spending £2k to do it there so we would be limited to snorkelling I guess, which would be a shame as I won't be returning to the maldives again. We could always to the PADI discovery dives that start at £150pp. I am also looking so far in advance to get my expectations in line with reality, and this is 100% a research phase before we decide to commit once things become clearer, so I fully appreciate the honesty in your post and the others here. The websites that I have found have mostly not been updated in a year so I guessed that things were just about frozen at this point in time. We also can't currently push back the trip to next year as I have a voucher to use this year towards the trip that expires at the end of the year (complex story, but not extensible), this is actually the only reason why we selected the maldives. by IkazUK (Mon 8th Feb 2021 8:23pm)
  • Thanks for the hints, I will look into Blue Hippo to and see what happens with them running up to the end of the year. by IkazUK (Mon 8th Feb 2021 8:27pm)
  • Good to know about the cross training. Regarding getting certified in warmer waters, my other half is all for it! But the cost is putting me off it, at over double the price that providers in Scotland, I can't justify it especially if we don't yet know if we will be keen to continue long term before trying it out. by IkazUK (Mon 8th Feb 2021 8:34pm)
  • Definately! As usual I am mainly in town for weekends, but would be keen to discover a nice outdoors place by IkazUK (Mon 10th May 2021 3:42pm)
  • I lived in a flat on Main Street when I moved to Glasgow and quite enjoyed it, some nice local shops nearby and a large tesco about a mile away, a nice walk through Glasgow Green to get to town, decent transport to town (and back after a few drinks). Quite cheap too for what it is. I never felt unsafe living there or walking home at night. When there are football matches at the nearby stadium the roads do get gridlocked though. I moved out last year for a place out of town with a garden. by IkazUK (Wed 19th May 2021 9:35pm)
  • Make sure that you check again a day or 2 before travelling as rules are changing a lot. I got my test at Manchester airport the day of my flight (and got the results within 30 minutes), so the process can be easy by IkazUK (Fri 9th Jul 2021 11:58am)
  • It looks like me and +1 will be able to make it today by IkazUK (Thu 26th Aug 2021 9:19am)
  • It depends on the time of the day, the security was empty (and most outlets closed) when I took an evening flight last week, but Monday mornings have been quite busy with long queues at security. I didn't use the bag drop and was flying domestic so no paperwork or delays due to check-in staff controlling other people's paperwork. by IkazUK (Mon 13th Sep 2021 12:13pm)
  • Slightly out of town, but I had the fillet steak at Monadh Kitchen in Bearsden recently and it was divine! Texture was perfect and it was really tasty, best steak I have had in a while. Their whole menu is typically amazing. by IkazUK (Wed 24th Nov 2021 5:37pm)
  • Regularely check back for lateral flow tests, I have had this happen before. My latest box was ordered over the weekend and delivered today by IkazUK (Mon 13th Dec 2021 7:44pm)
  • Ours seems to be twice a week currently, with no delivery between Thursday (when my weekly post is due) until Monday/Tuesday when it typically gets here. by IkazUK (Tue 14th Dec 2021 2:12pm)
  • Hermes at my place here are great, at my previous address though they were useless, they were not able to deliver parcels for some reason (they couldn't ring the doorbell...), I had a parcel that went through 9 tentative deliveries without ever hearing the doorbell or receiving a "we missed you" card by IkazUK (Fri 14th Jan 2022 5:41pm)
  • I got letters dated from 20+ days ago this week, so big problems here (one delivery with all mail from the 3 weeks) by IkazUK (Fri 14th Jan 2022 5:49pm)
  • Arrived at airport at 05:35 this morning for a 06:40 flight. I was convinced that I would miss it as the queues were quite crazy. Ended up moving reasonably fast, taking just over 30 minutes so made it to the gate just as boarding started. 3 out of 5 security lanes were open by IkazUK (Mon 4th Apr 2022 9:06am)
  • We were told that we were "way below" on one offer, checked once the place was sold, we were second with about £50 difference with the actual buyer... So don't always trust the solicitor feedback... We bought 6 months ago, HR was 130k, got it for £141k, east side of Glasgow, didn't go to closing, buyers accepted our offer directly by IkazUK (Tue 28th Jun 2022 2:51pm)
  • Anyone already there? Which table? by IkazUK (Thu 14th Jul 2022 7:38pm)
  • I used these a lot when travelling last year: [https://klarity.health/product/basic-antigen-covid-certificate/](https://klarity.health/product/basic-antigen-covid-certificate/) You do need to provide your own test kit, but they provide the certificate really fast (within minutes) by IkazUK (Mon 12th Sep 2022 9:04pm)
  • We are in the process of getting quotes now, have received quotes anywhere between £3000 and £8000 for labour (materials on top) for a 1st floor bathroom. We are trying to go one-stop (letting the company arrange for the plumber, electrician, tiler...), this might be driving up the price. We are not fussed on timelines, so haven't been pushing on that. by IkazUK (Sat 29th Oct 2022 1:23pm)
  • After reading [this random guide](https://www.independent.co.uk/extras/indybest/house-garden/household-appliances/best-dehumidifier-uk-b1987947.html), I went with the Delonghi and managed to get it for £225 new. Quite humid inside our place, with mould starting to grow on the windows, we also don't have a tumble dryer. This one gets good reviews for drying clothes, not as fast as a tumble drying but suits us (2 people living here, so don't do too many washes a week). Have been using it for a few weeks now and am quite happy, no more mould or smell of damp in the lounge (where we dry clothes) and dries the clothes a lot better than just handing them. by IkazUK (Tue 1st Nov 2022 4:29pm)
  • I quite like Nuku Nuku a few minutes walk from queen street/central station. Nice freshly prepared japanese food, my favorite in town. Can get most mains for \~£10 by IkazUK (Tue 22nd Nov 2022 1:09pm)
  • I have been clocking over £10 in heating costs for every work from home day... I am going to start going to the office more often at these temperatures by IkazUK (Mon 12th Dec 2022 4:41pm)
  • Clockwise here too, I hear that the prices are really good for small businesses by IkazUK (Wed 4th Jan 2023 6:43pm)
  • >Evri 'delivered' my package today, with proof! Unfortunately that proof is a photo of my front door, no package in sight. Also nothing with my neighbours, nothing through the letterbox. Eh... I'm sure the delivery guy looks good in the tights I ordered... New one here "Parcel handed to resident" on Amazon.com, I just saw that they left a card "Parcel is in the green bin"... Card was left yesterday and said green bin was emptied today... First time that I have an issue with Amazon I must say by IkazUK (Thu 12th Jan 2023 6:58pm)
  • > They had a panto (?) where an outside guy came in for one morning, on a Friday in December. Nothing near as dramatic as many fortunately, I was not impacted too much by the whole pandemic (work went on as usual and family caught it after vaccines, all with mild symptoms) 31st of January: Planned flight from London to Beijing, spend a bit of time in China before heading to South Korea 27th of January: Internal borders were closing in China, making my trip impossible, so I cancelled most of it except for the flights UK->China. I was also told by a local friend not to travel to China because it was too dangerous. 29th of January 2020: BA cancelled my flight to China and offered to fly me direct to Korea Arrival in Seoul on the 31st of January, got scanned for temperature at the hotel, the pandemic prep had truly started already here. Facemasks everywhere (mandatory on public transport, and they were free) and temp checking at multiple places. by IkazUK (Mon 16th Jan 2023 4:57pm)
  • > added all of 30 seconds extra walk time between taxi and arrivals and saved a fiver. but v much agree the airport are thieving cunts My driver did this also, it was early and I didn't quite get what he was saying when I accepted. Problem was I had already pre-paid so the driver just earned an extra £5 for my trip! by IkazUK (Fri 31st Mar 2023 1:11pm)
  • Have you looked at the Savoy tower? [https://work-clockwise.com/locations/glasgow/](https://work-clockwise.com/locations/glasgow/) They have a few monthly events (one evening social, one breakfast and lunch I think) Our office there closed at 19:00, but I know that some people had later closing times. by IkazUK (Sat 27th May 2023 11:35am)
  • I attended a few events on MeetUp for internationals that were good (haven't been since Covid, not sure if there are still things happening) by IkazUK (Sat 3rd Jun 2023 8:36am)
  • I am doing the same trip soon, just sent you a message by IkazUK (Thu 6th Jul 2023 3:53pm)
