  • I went today to do some shopping at Tesco Express on Argyle St and there were literally no social distancing rules between people. * First, there were 2 noisy groups of 7-8 people each shouting at each other and blocking the whole pathway. This always happens in that area and I haven't seen any police to disperse those groups in the last week (I live in the area). * Second, people were squeezing between the shelves inside the shop. * Third, 2 guys tried to steal a couple of bottles of wine and some sandwiches and the whole staff rushed at them and a big crowd was formed at the exit. Even then, the staff decided not to call the police as it wouldn't be safe, so they were just let go. I've seen all this happening during an interval of 10-15 mins and about 200m from my home. This really pisses me off as I barely go out only to buy essentials (max twice a week) and these people literally don't care and, hence, the lockdown is just going to last for longer.. I know there are a lot of people moaning about the social distancing rules being tough, but in reality the authorities are way too lenient and this is why the infection rate is decreasing so slowly. The lockdown in the UK is a **total joke** compared to other European countries and everyone just turns a blind eye to the details. This egocentrism is just going to create more victims in the long term and the lockdown won't end anytime soon unfortunately. by beerSoftDrink (Thu 23rd Apr 2020 12:47am)
  • Plot twist: The organisers would be undercover police to see who's actually anti-lockdown and eventually when the protest ends, everyone gets arrested /s Now seriously: whoever promotes this kind of events should be arrested and fined drastically so they could be put back on their feet eventually. by beerSoftDrink (Sat 16th May 2020 6:25pm)
  • Argyle\* Street. Yeah, nice photos and that part of the street East of the Central Station is pretty quiet and clean now. by beerSoftDrink (Mon 25th May 2020 6:09pm)

  • It was pretty quick. I'm wondering if the inside has changed? by beerSoftDrink (Tue 23rd Jun 2020 6:05pm)
  • that's a massive crowd. Good for the police by beerSoftDrink (Thu 25th Jun 2020 7:06pm)
  • I walk around that area every day and it really feels dodgy and dirty sometimes especially now when streets are mostly empty. The only people out are the junkies from the hotel and a bunch of prostitutes by beerSoftDrink (Sun 28th Jun 2020 2:28pm)
  • Yeah, I live nearby and it was pretty loud pre-corona from the Traders Bar. However I can see the space advertised to let now, I guess they went bankrupt, so it might be quieter in the future. by beerSoftDrink (Sun 28th Jun 2020 2:31pm)
  • I live close to the Central Station and the area around Alexander Thompson hotel is very dodgy because they host a lot of junkies, plus there are a couple of prostitutes around the corner. It is getting better now that life is slowly coming back to normal and it was much worse in april / may when no one else was in the streets. Honestly I hope this area is going to get cleaned up in 2 years time along with the expansion of the office buildings. If the city council wants to place the finance / services hub in the city centre, it has to be clean and secure for everyone living and working there by beerSoftDrink (Sun 28th Jun 2020 10:35pm)
  • Yeah, as I've said on previous threads about this, it has become extremely dodgy in April and now it started to improve slowly as things get back to normal. If they want to expand the offices in the area, they really need to clean it up of junkies... by beerSoftDrink (Mon 29th Jun 2020 10:31am)
  • I just bought a flat (finished the purchase last week). I thought I was the only one buying flats at these crazy times lol. My main reason was that my current rent is more expensive than the mortgage rate and the new flat is more modern and better located as well. Win-win for me at the moment. by beerSoftDrink (Fri 10th Jul 2020 5:39pm)
  • I agree with this. The infrastructure developments would be ideal now in these times and attracting fintech firms to the city centre would be a boost for the local economy. I am happy with the skyline plans as long as they get rid of the old, unsustainable buildings and preserve the historical ones as much as possible. As far as I know, the city council is planning to double the city centre population in the near term, hence infrastructure is much needed in the area. Moreover there still is a lot more to be done in cleaning out certain dodgy areas around the city centre, like some parts on Argyle Street around the Alexander Thompson hotel where walkers get harassed by junkies pretty regularly. That is a must if they want to attract many businesses in the area. by beerSoftDrink (Tue 21st Jul 2020 10:33pm)
  • Thank you for writing to the MP regarding this issue. I was planning to do the same when I get some free time off work. What is happening in the area is outrageous. I live around the city centre and it has felt like a post-apocalyptic town since lockdown began. Now that more and more businesses are reopening, it’s slowly becoming better, but some areas and Argyle St in particular look very grim right now because of this. There are junkies drinking, fighting, pissing everywhere. I am mostly outraged because the council tax paid in the city centre is enormous and nothing is done to clean up the area from such dangers. Those people should have been given temporary accommodation somewhere else outside of the city and definitely not in the city centre. by beerSoftDrink (Thu 30th Jul 2020 9:46pm)
  • I agree that this problem is much more complex than just giving them shelter. The entire rehab procedures should be improved in order to reintegrate them back into society and this had been hard to achieve even before covid. However, my main concern here is that people’s safety in the area is put at risk and the city centre is not the right place to bring all the junkies to. I live in the area and have been aggressively harassed and followed by beggars multiple times. Yesterday a girl’s phone was stolen in the middle of the street at st enoch centre by a group of junkies and two guys were fighting on my street. Yet many people seem to pity them because they are homeless and have mental problems. by beerSoftDrink (Thu 30th Jul 2020 10:44pm)
  • If you think the city centre is my backyard, then yes. I’m sure you’ll love it by beerSoftDrink (Fri 31st Jul 2020 9:42am)
  • Many people seem to pity them until they become the victims unfortunately by beerSoftDrink (Fri 31st Jul 2020 9:59am)
  • There's also Alexander Thompson on Argyle St and the Tesco and Coop entries next to it are flocked by them until you see a police van patrolling the area. by beerSoftDrink (Fri 31st Jul 2020 9:57am)
  • I know, that's not exactly what I meant, maybe my wording was misleading in the last 2 sentences. If you check my reply to another user above, I am aware that just shipping them off to somewhere else wouldn't solve the root cause and this problem is a complex one that has existed before the pandemic. My main concern is that the city centre (especially the area around Glasgow Central Station) has a lot of traffic from people all over town and other parts of the country and everyone's safety is put at risk. For instance I have been followed the other day by a couple of beggars when I got out of the Coop opposite to Radisson on Argyle St, also a girl's phone was stolen around St Enoch station by some junkies when I was around and a couple of junkies were fighting on my street earlier this week. There were such problems before, but since the pandemic, the area really looks like a zombie apocalypse scene and it has become more dirty and violent. by beerSoftDrink (Fri 31st Jul 2020 10:59am)
  • Are these stickers even legal to display on a car? by beerSoftDrink (Sat 15th Aug 2020 5:37pm)
  • On Argyle street I’ve seen “radioactive 5g mast” stickers on all lamp posts around Radisson Blu recently. This should be made illegal and those pricks spreading misinformation should be penalised drastically. by beerSoftDrink (Sat 15th Aug 2020 5:42pm)
  • Misinforming people with fake news and inciting them to damage the tech infrastructure and attack engineers deliberately? Yes. Why shouldn’t it be? by beerSoftDrink (Sat 15th Aug 2020 8:08pm)
  • Printing “domestic terrorist” and inciting violence is abusive. I am very happy with the life I have as an immigrant and I don’t want to take back control from anything. Does it mean I am “a stupid sheep teaming up with the wrong guys”? by beerSoftDrink (Sat 15th Aug 2020 8:16pm)
  • Not playing any victim and not feigning anything mate. As I said I am happy with my life and there is no need for any revolution and anarchy in my life. by beerSoftDrink (Sat 15th Aug 2020 9:08pm)
  • I was in the same situation but the solicitors managed to find someone from Scottish Fire Dept to do an evaluation on behalf of the seller and issue a valid ESW1 which was approved by the lender. by beerSoftDrink (Sun 16th Aug 2020 2:13am)
  • It is changing fast indeed. Apparently they’ve started planning on George Square area refurbishment following the redesign of Sauchiehall street in the city centre. I guess the new train station design would have to fit in the plans. https://reglasgow.com/design-contract-process-for-george-square-and-surrounding-avenue-streets-to-begin/ by beerSoftDrink (Sat 19th Sep 2020 9:32pm)

  • I just called on that number and I was told I must be registered with a GP in order to get a vaccine and it's impossible otherwise... It feels weird even though the website specifies to call that number if you don't have a GP in Scotland at the moment. by beerSoftDrink (Mon 28th Jun 2021 4:26pm)
  • I used "The Copy And Print Shop" a couple of times during lockdown... They're a bit more expensive but they're good as a last resort [https://thecopyandprintshop.com/](https://thecopyandprintshop.com/). by beerSoftDrink (Wed 30th Jun 2021 11:50am)
