  • That carpark on Duke Street is a 25 minute walk from Blythswood Square.... The Gurdwara on Berkley Street would be a better shout. After 6pm Mon-Fri (Free Weekends) you can park to the east of the M8 (5 mins from Blythswood Square) for free. by brooodie (Fri 10th Jan 2020 4:41am)
  • Yeah that's just Sunday parking (in town). I mistyped above (sorry for confusion) and meant 'West' of the M8, so in the charing cross area / Park and the area south of Sauchiehall street/north of argyle street - def free after 6pm on a Friday. by brooodie (Sun 12th Jan 2020 10:16pm)
  • I was agreeing with you, I know the sunday parking has stopped, thats what I was saying by brooodie (Mon 13th Jan 2020 7:39am)
  • I run this sort of distance too and while I echo the other posters in saying the canal path is good in daylight (both heading west towards dumbarton, east towards speirs wharf or north east out to kirkintilloch), it's not good in the dark, or when it's really wet (particularly if you go via the kelvin walkway). Usually at night I run from town up great western road as far as Anniesland cross then cut down either at crow road or Anniesland Road down as far as Dumbarton Road and run back into town through Patrick and then Sauchiehall Street. Advantages of this route are that it's well lit, wide pavement and not too many roads crossing or interruptions (although it's not the most interesting route). These are my two most regular routes (one daytime, on nighttime) obviously depending on where you are you'd need to adjust or add wee bits on for distance. I try not to run around rush hours in the dark because of being interrupted by cars but later at night or before sunrise it's fine. • It's not the 'quickest way' by any means but If you want to avoid the bus (I would) and can walk, then it's a 20 minute walk from Govan subway along Govan Road (Subway is only running one way at the moment though: [http://spt.co.uk/2020/03/subway-update/](http://spt.co.uk/2020/03/subway-update/)) by brooodie (Thu 2nd Apr 2020 9:51am)
  • I was there this afternoon, this is complete bullshit, scaremongering handwringing nonsense. Yes there were people there, in 1's and twos doing things like BMXing, working out with boxing mitts and cycling, which are all allowed. by brooodie (Sun 5th Apr 2020 6:17pm)
  • I switched to EE from 3 last xmas for exactly this reason. Not had any problems since. by brooodie (Sat 11th Apr 2020 8:09pm)
  • Can't say I'm a massive mobile data user but got fed up of being on buchanan street and central london with no data and having to google things and being left stranded. Can't say I can remember being left without data since moving to EE. Figured moving to the dearest operator was worth it. Shame because otherwise I'd have never left 3, their overseas data plans were well ahead of the pack. Will never go back to 02 though. Take a 30 day sim plan out if you can and see how it works for you, I don't think there is a golden bullet, I guess all providers have some dead spots. by brooodie (Sun 12th Apr 2020 2:59am)
  • Sorry that this isn't what you asked but worth asking: are you sure it's not machine washable? I was previously under the impression they needed to be dry cleaned but after looking into it it's fine to wash my (superking, down) duvet in a regular washing machine provided you have a tumble drier to dry it afterwards. I do this a few times a year. by brooodie (Wed 21st Oct 2020 5:46pm)

  • If you take it in a car, remember to bring some ID. I was caught out by this the last time I went (Shieldhall) and thankfully the guy was sound and let me off as they'd only just introduced it, but this must be a new thing they have brought in to stop folk from other council areas dropping of waste in the wrong area (been dozens of times before this and never been asked). by brooodie (Mon 7th Dec 2020 6:48pm)

  • You say "Can't move into the flat until I get the permit", but in reality you can't get the permit until you move into the flat (because (a) you need to supply a council tax bill to get the permit, and (b) you need to change your car registration to your new address ([https://www.gov.uk/change-address-v5c](https://www.gov.uk/change-address-v5c))). So you'll need to park your car somewhere 'free' for a few weeks minimum until you can resolve the situation, or pay someone in Garnethill with an unused private parking space to rent one for a while (>£100 per month and probably you won't find one). For free parking the closest place to Garnethill is the area north of great western road/woodside but it's a 15/20 minute walk ([https://glasgowgis.maps.arcgis.com/apps/webappviewer/index.html?id=c7573c30724645c7861698125682b78a](https://glasgowgis.maps.arcgis.com/apps/webappviewer/index.html?id=c7573c30724645c7861698125682b78a)). At the weekend (Friday 6pm - Monday 8am) you can park just the other side of the M8 (5 minutes walk) for free, which is what friend/family of mine tend to do when they stay over. by brooodie (Fri 2nd Apr 2021 5:29am)

  • The Guidance notes ([https://www.glasgow.gov.uk/CHttpHandler.ashx?id=32259&p=0](https://www.glasgow.gov.uk/CHttpHandler.ashx?id=32259&p=0)) are pretty clear (***This must be in the form of one of the following: - current Council Tax or Household Utility bill dated within the last 3 months***) and in my experience they are quite arsey about the council tax thing (to the point where they were weird about me giving them a scan of my council tax letter rather than the original document which I had scanned and chucked out). It's ridiculous given they \_are\_ the council, you'd think they would have their own record but ¯\\\_(ツ)\_/¯. Maybe worth double checking with them, maybe they would agree to something else (probably just depends who you speak to and what kind of day they are having). I've never had an issue getting parked which seems surprising given how few spaces there are (on my street probably one space for every 8 flats). If you come home late on a Sunday night you might need to park round the corner but it's not that bad this area is full of students and most don't have/need cars so that helps. Also a bonus at the moment (from: [https://www.glasgow.gov.uk/parkingzonepermits](https://www.glasgow.gov.uk/parkingzonepermits))... **Due to the fire in Garnethill we appreciate that some residents may have been displaced from where they usually park. To assist with this, your resident permit will be valid in Glasgow City Centre, Park, Woodlands and Woodside.** I'd be cagey about that though as I've heard of people getting tickets from wardens when parking in other areas which they've then had to appeal, depends if you can be arsed with the hassle should that end up happening. Permits are now digital so you don't need to display anything by brooodie (Fri 2nd Apr 2021 10:08am)

  • Have to agree with this. Checking historical (sold) prices for this sort of flat on Zoopla and they were selling for 130k in 2019. I appreciate the market has gone up and one sold last year for 173k, but that's still not much above your (now lower) offers over. In this case the (IMO) high home report value might be putting people off. At the prices you are asking for you are well into 2/3 bed tenement territory which are typically larger and more desirable (with all the problems with tenements that people that don't live in them typically overlook). TBH I'd just stick with it, don't drop the price further and sit it out. I don't think there's anything wrong with your decor or pictures, although you've mentioned a few times that the rooms are bigger than presented, did they use a fish-eye lens to take the photos? Usually rooms look \_bigger\_ on these listings rather than smaller so that's odd. It's a new build and it looks like one, and it looks in pretty much showhome condition. • Saw went to this at the Trocadero in London as a kid, had no idea it was originally from Glasgow. Was absolutely terrifying, I remember the bit in the lift in particular: >!There was always a ringer in the group and during the bit in the lift, the lift stops, the doors are forced open and the ringer is dragged out by an alien.!< The mention on the documentary that they planned predator and terminator versions, no idea why they never went ahead. • Had Thai Siam a few times and it's great, probably the best I've had in Glasgow but the most expensive. Highly recommend the Sun Dried Pork (Moo Dad-Diaw). BKK Cafe is another option but they sometimes take a while to deliver. Thairiffic on Sauchiehall street is good too. by brooodie (Wed 6th Oct 2021 8:28pm)
  • >https://ie.trustpilot.com/review/www.covid19travelclinic.com So the bad reviews seem to rest on not getting the results of your tests. Does it really matter if you never get the results? All you need to do to enter the country is prove you booked the test and paid for it. If they fail to process the results that's not your fault is it? There is no follow up or consequences for failing to take the test as I know, they only care that you paid for one. • IMO you need to use common sense here. Everyone should continue to take lateral flow tests and keep you daughter isolated away from everyone else. If you all continue to test negative and she has recovered from symptoms and testing negative, and no-one else has symptoms and all still testing negative on lateral flow by the end of the year then you should enjoy new year within reason (don't go anywhere busy, wear masks and be cautious). There will be no consequences to not following the letter of the law and I commend you doing the "right thing" but for example in England the period is 7 days; An arbitrary geographic border doesn't make covid different and all around you there are fannies who know they are negative going on nights out and having house parties. These are the people causing problems, not you who wants to celebrate new year having tried to do the right thing. Sorry to hear your household has been impacted by this. Good health to you all & Merry Xmas. by brooodie (Fri 24th Dec 2021 9:19pm)
  • Whenever the parking restrictions end in that area (10pm in mine) by brooodie (Mon 25th Jul 2022 8:46pm)
  • You're going to have to game the system somewhat. Not sure what the deal is in Edinburgh but in Glasgow you only need to need to present your V5C the first time you apply for a permit (afaik). So I suggest you reregister your car to your Glasgow address, a quick google says 6 weeks to get your new V5C through. Apply for a permit. Get the permit. Then reregister your motor in Edinburgh (or don't). When you go to renew your permit you only need to present your council tax letter/proof of address rather than go through the full application again, I doubt they check the registration again on DVLA (not sure about that though - but as I said, I doubt it). I wouldn't bother trying to plead with them for special measures, they won't care. by brooodie (Tue 13th Sep 2022 11:44pm)
  • Why is it fraud exactly? I don't recall anything on any of the parking forms that I've filled in that would indicate that the above course of action constitutes fraud (here: [https://www.glasgow.gov.uk/index.aspx?articleid=18881](https://www.glasgow.gov.uk/index.aspx?articleid=18881)) . It's simply circumnavigating a bureaucracy. The penalty for Fraud is an unlimited fine or 10 years in the jail. Do you think that applies in this case? Fanny. by brooodie (Wed 14th Sep 2022 12:32am)

  • Can you expand on this (link or whatever)... Am unaware by brooodie (Thu 15th Dec 2022 10:19pm)
  • Thanks for the reply and the links, I spent a bit of time looking him up. You said he is "is one of the people who made Jonathan Pie", I'm not sure how they are linked? From a brief scan (watched his youtube) he (Doyle) is a comedian who is embroiled in anti-trans controversy, not particularly funny or relevant. I'm not sure how he is linked to Tom Walker? From what I've seen of Tom Walker (which is why I asked the question), his satire seems to be genuine, uncomplicated an fairly on the mark. I've not seen or heard anything that makes me think he has created this character for nefarious purposes; it seems pretty clear cut to me. Again, uncomplicated. You seem to have a problem with him; his targets seem to be quite obvious but I appreciate things are not always as they seem. Is he a bad dude? (why). by brooodie (Thu 15th Dec 2022 11:17pm)
  • I'm not aware of anything/anywhere Tom Walker 'spends a lot / the majority of time mocking "wokeness" and "cancel culture"', you've not cited anything, and I've not seen anything to the contrary. From what I've seen he seems pretty clear cut. Honestly you've not explained anything but appreciate you for engaging. by brooodie (Thu 15th Dec 2022 11:43pm)

  • Here's a different idea. 100% Silent Barber Experience ™. You walk in, take a ticket (avoids having to track who's came in after you etc.) Number is called. Sit down. You: "What you havin mate?". Me: 4 on the sides, top short (or whatever). After that: Nae patter. No "Going anywhere on holiday". Zip. Maybe if you want to push the boat out have a a button the punter can press if they opt out of the no chat scenario and want some patter. You can market it as autism friendly (but in reality it's everybody friendly as you can get you work done, and your punter can chill out). Haircut done. You Pay. You Leave. No "free" drinks. No DJ. No toasties. Just a haircut. Edit: Sorry to blunt your enthusiasm by being miserable but this idea had legs imo by brooodie (Mon 27th Feb 2023 10:27pm)
  • You've just improved the original idea. Skip the "What you havin mate" step. Barber just gives you an appropriate haircut based on your age, clothes, face etc. 99% of the time they probably know what you need before you've even asked (and better than you do). 100% Silent, **No Option**, Barber Experience ™. by brooodie (Mon 27th Feb 2023 11:29pm)
  • Can recommend after repeat visits. Five March, Eighty Eight or Ox and Finch. If you want steak Tiffneys. Dakota is nice, maybe a wee bit corporate/impersonal, and on the expensive end.
