  • This depends on your insurance provider. I'm with British Gas for building and contents and they've confirmed the new legislation doesn't affect my policy. House can burn to the ground without interconnected alarms and I'm still good (despite living among ashes of course) by buzzbuzzandaway (Tue 18th Jan 2022 9:37pm)
  • The government has already stated they won't exactly be chapping folks doors to enforce. Insurance providers will differ so depending who you're with you may or may not be covered, so best to check. If I understand correctly, if your alarms aren't upgraded it could be a sticking point if you're trying to sell, but I'm not 100% on that. by buzzbuzzandaway (Tue 18th Jan 2022 9:53pm)
  • No need. I've got it in writing 😉 by buzzbuzzandaway (Tue 18th Jan 2022 9:51pm)
  • The chap I spoke to said they'd been fielding calls quite often on this and the advice from the top was clear, that it doesn't affect folks policies. That's not to say that won't change at renewal or in the near future, but as it stands that's their position, so no error. It's AXA btw by buzzbuzzandaway (Tue 18th Jan 2022 9:56pm)

  • You've got a seriously warped sense of reality there wee man. Get a grip by buzzbuzzandaway (Tue 18th Jan 2022 11:15pm)
  • I'd disagree entirely that it's pointless. Of course, it's not going to sway Kremlin opinion and enact any change in their forces' intentions, but what it does do is support those who are currently watching helplessly from afar as their families hide in bunkers many miles away. My wife attended Edinburgh yesterday and she said the overwhelming sense amongst those of Eastern European descent was that of massive gratitude toward Scottish people who had come out in a show of support. Sometimes these things don't need to be done to directly enact change, sometimes it's just good to put your arm around someone who is suffering and listen to them. Sure there will be those that attend for a photo op, but to suggest the whole thing is self serving is cynically wide of the mark and is a pretty sad indictment of where you yourself are as a person. by buzzbuzzandaway (Sat 26th Feb 2022 8:58am)

  • You equate striking with begging and in one fell swoop demonstrate that you know fuck all of what you speak. Well done by buzzbuzzandaway (Tue 23rd Aug 2022 8:52pm)
  • In a rather ridiculous way in your last sentence you've hit the nail on the head and declared what our reality truly is, though every word that preceded your final statement sounds like the rantings of a very confused Tory mind and could not be further from reality. Again, it demonstrates your complete misunderstanding of union organisation, collective bargaining and the necessity of industrial action to counter repressive working practices and effect change to the betterment of the worker. Go do some homework and you might be pleasantly surprised at what you may learn. by buzzbuzzandaway (Tue 23rd Aug 2022 9:06pm)
  • You could not be further from reality I'm afraid friend. I will concede that you may have a point in relation to the status quo and societal structures with resulting imbalances, but you frame it completely incorrectly as some sort of Oliver begging for more gruel when you refer to an organised workforce trying to force the hand of those pulling the corporate strings. Our current paradigm of controlling government, directors, shareholders and CEOs on one side and the workforce on the other will indeed result in conflict as long as those at the top attempt to squeeze more for themselves at the cost of those several rungs down the ladder from them. Union organisation is necessary here to guard against exploitation on the workforce, which in essence is the source of productivity and profit and should therefore be compensated fairly and accordingly. You may regard this as a tired continuous dance but what would you suggest as an alternative? Perhaps no privately owned business, all monies and resources spread equally amongst the population and a limitation of one's ability to realise potential? There is a name for that model, it has been and is still implemented in places, yet in each and every example has been shown to fail miserably. Unless of course you have another idea? As I said, you've grossly misunderstood what people are doing here and would be wise to educate yourself before insulting those that are making very difficult decisions in order to gain a better standing for themselves, their families and others. by buzzbuzzandaway (Tue 23rd Aug 2022 9:39pm)
  • IIRC if you are a union member and another unions members are holding strike action within your industry, you are similarly protected by law if you choose not to cross a picket line, even if not directly involved in the action. You can make the call yourself as an individual and may face some sort of disciplinary proceedings however, sacking you would be illegal. May put a target on your back going forward too but the choice is there. by buzzbuzzandaway (Fri 2nd Sep 2022 11:42am)

  • Absolutely. Scottish gov have auditors and there's others who will act as "customers" to monitor standards. Though with that said, most if not all guards know that if caught doing something like this their Conductor Team Manager will do absolutely nothing to reprimand them. • If it's done in the same appointment/ treatment then private prices will apply for everything done. Was due to get a white filling on a pre molar which turned out to need root canal. Dentist advised me that due to current regs if I got the root canal and then white filling once done, I'd pay private cost for the root canal (~£450) Vs £45 for NHS root canal if I opted for amalgam. Daftest thing is he advised I could get the silver filling done to avoid the crazy cost for root canal, then come in the next day and ask to change to a white filling.
