  • Yep process is exactly the same at Glasgow, but I had to wait a bit longer (maybe 10-15mins). by concord_7 (Tue 2nd Mar 2021 1:20pm)
  • Instead, I suggest you focus on trying to make your sister and friend a real, loved up couple. This way you will avoid any uncomfortable situations completely. by concord_7 (Thu 4th Mar 2021 3:13pm)
  • I think if people are taking their recycling to their nearest recycling point (and reporting on the app when it’s full) that is the most that should be expected. From there it’s the council’s responsibility to make sure they are emptied with suitable regularity. Remember, if people constantly take their recycling elsewhere it will give the illusion that the bin emptying frequency is adequate (the bins will never appear to overflow) and the problem will not be resolved... by concord_7 (Tue 23rd Mar 2021 10:37am)
  • I didn’t mention the dump - my point was about the side-effects of finding another facility be it local, dump or otherwise. I think the people who have left the recycling in the photos have actually done a good job of leaving it neatly arranged around the bin! by concord_7 (Tue 23rd Mar 2021 4:27pm)

  • Actually, they now take card - I went weekend before last for the first time and the chap nipped over to grab a card reader and took it to my car window. Big signs up saying cards accepted too; maybe it’s a recent thing. by concord_7 (Mon 12th Apr 2021 10:21am)

  • When I moved, the landlord gave me a tip that there aren’t really any wardens around in my area due to covid. Not condoning parking without a permit, but for a week while you sort one out it might be a solution. Try and sort out a utility bill ASAP - ahead of time if possible (e.g. apply for council tax), as you’ll need a bill for the permit application. You also need to send in a copy of your V5C; if the car is not registered at your new address (likely), they will issue you a 3 month permit until you can get the address updated. by concord_7 (Fri 30th Apr 2021 1:20pm)

  • Our third floor tenement flat windows were replaced from the inside (no scaffold requirement) within about three hours all in. Landlord arranged it so don’t know details. Company came for a survey months ahead to size it all up etc. Windows being replaced were extremely old (flat is from 1890s but not sure if the windows are original). Edit: I should say these were the rear facing ones so could be replaced with new non-PVC type windows without any issue. by concord_7 (Tue 18th May 2021 2:16pm)

  • Further to this, when the Pfizer jab came out it was a 3 week interval in line with Pfizer’s guidance. There was a big reaction from the medical community when the govt pushed it to 12 weeks (as a lot of people had already had 1 jab after consenting to a 2-jab, 3 week interval vaccination programme), as well as the fact that Pfizer had no evidence on efficacy at this longer interval. by concord_7 (Wed 14th Jul 2021 12:23pm)

  • A lot of good advice here, but as you can see it’s quite hard to explain without seeing the system etc. If you are renting privately and your landlord doesn’t seem particularly hard to deal with, the easiest thing to do is to have a chat with them, and maybe they can video call and walk you through it. by concord_7 (Mon 16th Aug 2021 12:02pm)

  • Thanks. Now here’s the same website’s number for the UK. So your numbers were off by quite a bit, we are talking 63kGBP vs 130kAUS “average”. 130k AUS is about 70kGBP. So pay is better there. Factor in that the cost of living is cheaper in Aus too and the maximum GP pay goes further above that average than the UK’s does. Pay em more I say. And encourage more people to train as doctors and GPs. If Byres Road and Kelvinway are both shut there is very little in the way of traffic routes between the ‘north’ and ‘south’ parts of the West End, if you know what I mean. • No, I’m talking about the section from the slip road traffic light up to and including the three lanes (right before the 4th lane begins). There is nothing to indicate what lane you should be in, and as I said if you presume sitting at the traffic light that the left lane is for going straight ahead, you’ll find parked cars in it and need to merge. by concord_7 (Sun 22nd Jan 2023 2:55pm)

  • Water isn’t much analogous in this scenario to electricity or broadband / fibre comms. Here are couple of reasons: To use an electrical analogy, water can’t be transported more efficiently by stepping up the voltage to reduce current and thereby use small cables. This is what happens on the national grid. Water is voluminous, and moving lots of it a long way requires big pipes. Big pipes take up lots of space under roads etc and it’s thereby harder to provide redundancy in the system. Second, unlike electricity / comms, water doesn’t travel at the speed of light of course - so when a fault is rectified it takes time for water to propagate through the system and reach all demand points (open taps). by concord_7 (Tue 24th Jan 2023 9:44pm)

  • Why are you trying to doom and gloom OP with this? This is frankly nonsense, offering 6mo rent in advance is far from being close to the norm, that is rare. Vast majority of the time all you need to do is put down the usual deposit, prove affordability and have a decent reference. by concord_7 (Sat 18th Feb 2023 11:02am)
  • The speed limit isn’t a suggestion, it’s the law. If you think the limit there is too low that’s one thing, but you can’t ignore it because you think you know better. This mentality is rife across the city; many people for some reason think they know best and that the limits are suggestions, so they drive at whatever speed they deem fit. In part, no doubt, because there’s no consequence to this. Ironically, it’s flouting limits that leads to more cameras and fines, not the other way round. Lastly, if you don’t pay attention to your speed and think you’re driving safely, I wish good luck to all who encounter you on the roads. by concord_7 (Fri 24th Feb 2023 12:40pm)
  • I appreciate that might be the reason, but if the signs remain out and visible, the limit must be observed. If those workers did their job properly it would solve the problem it seems. It’s not safe for traffic to be doing anything from 35ish to 70+ mph on the same road. by concord_7 (Fri 24th Feb 2023 12:50pm)
  • It’s not a debate, the Highway Code states that a red-circled speed limit is the mandatory absolute limit - including for road works. How is a driver (case in point me) supposed to be aware that it might be leftover due to roadworks at night? If the sign is there and visible then it’s mandatory. And there are loads of them, for a good stretch of the motorway. All along the side. Also, this is exactly my original point about people who “know the road” and therefore think that for whatever reason they can ignore mandatory speed limits. by concord_7 (Fri 24th Feb 2023 4:48pm)
  • Why don’t you take all that and shove it up your arse instead? by concord_7 (Fri 24th Feb 2023 4:57pm)
  • As soon as any driver passes the mandatory speed limit sign (40 in a red circle) sign they must be driving at that speed. You can’t look at the car in front and think since they’ve ignored it so you will too. You don’t get to choose what you think is safe. The speed limit is by law the absolute upper limit. by concord_7 (Fri 24th Feb 2023 4:55pm)
  • This is wrong. The speed limit is the absolute upper limit for the given stretch of road. Highway Code Rule 125. The general point you make at about not driving erratically applies usually but not in the case of breaking the speed limit to match the speed of other cars also breaking the speed limit. by concord_7 (Fri 24th Feb 2023 5:00pm)
  • My example is not of flashing gantry amber lights e.g. near the cathedral. The section I am talking about has red-circled limits along the side of the road for about a couple of miles. Those are mandatory. by concord_7 (Fri 24th Feb 2023 5:06pm)

  • By “unlawfully take up” I mean parking either not holding a permit nor paying (where that’s an option).
