  • When I got a knock back years ago, I was told that younger apprentices will work for a good while longer before thinking about going self employed or moving. The older you are, the more you're probably thinking about self employment so the less time they'll get out of you in comparison to the cost of training you up etc. Makes sense but it's still shite if you're on the receiving end. Are we really supposed to work into our 70's based on jobs or college courses picked when we were teenagers? by klaatubarada (Wed 27th Feb 2019 5:38pm)

  • Network Rail have hiked the rents on their railway arches all over the UK, displaying a total lack of support for the small business they're renting to. There was a push a few years back to regenerate the Osborne Street arches but it made very little difference to the area since Network Rail also rented to The Empire Bar, The Lampost, Spirit, and a couple of other pubs ran solely for the purpose of servicing alcoholics (or the mythical shift workers that GCC says kick about hoaching for a pint and day-old sausage roll at 8am). by klaatubarada (Mon 1st Jul 2019 10:25pm)
  • Just 8? The police must've turned the other cheek an awful lot then. by klaatubarada (Sat 6th Jul 2019 6:57pm)

  • A 10k machine? You can get a single/double group machine for 1-2k if you get some non-Italian machine sans bells and fucking whistles from the lot in Elderpark Workspace (including servicing). I'm not and shill just a cunt that did this on a budget. If you're dropping 10k on a coffee machine, it's no wonder that you are going to fail. by klaatubarada (Sat 31st Aug 2019 8:53pm)

  • Yeah, I see a couple of them are taking the opportunity to out the owner as a cunt and the owner is trying to badmouth them back. Telling your staff you've not got a job via a Facebook post **is** utter cunt behaviour tbh. by klaatubarada (Tue 3rd Sep 2019 6:20am)

  • I found Meraki are one to be avoided. They make great claims about the jobs your going for only for them to either change it at the very last minute (I've had them call on my way to an interview to say the job's changed and I'm interviewing for a role with a smaller salary), or not tell you at all and you're left a little confused at the interview because the questions don't quite marry with the role you were told you'd been sent for. by klaatubarada (Mon 13th Jan 2020 7:45am)

  • The same Mono owned by Craig Tannock? The one that runs up over a hundred grand of unpaid tax and NI bills before entering "liquidation" and popping back up again? No, fuck him. There are honest businesses struggling at the moment and we don't need to shed tears for dodgy cunts that'll use this crisis as another way to weasel their way out of paying their bills. by klaatubarada (Fri 20th Mar 2020 9:05pm)
  • Best of luck to everyone on lockdown. Unfortunately my bastard work have decided they're an "essential business" and ordered staff into the office. Fucking gutted. by klaatubarada (Tue 24th Mar 2020 6:52am)

  • Haha. You've said you've never been in, and I've spent more that a new nights in that wreck of a bar. Fuck off to Wuhan and lick some door handles. by klaatubarada (Wed 25th Mar 2020 6:29pm)
  • Aye, it's baffling. It's basically The Empire Bar, or every Saltmarket boozer aimed at parting old alkies from their cash, but with a (now) nicer exterior. I'm guessing most of the downvotes have never been unfortunate enough to step inside. It's grim. by klaatubarada (Thu 26th Mar 2020 7:13am)

  • [This](https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0002H2IOM/ref=cm_sw_r_apa_i_L5VGEbB4Z0QDW) is the one I use. A bit steep at £40 but mine has been going for about 10 years or so. by klaatubarada (Tue 31st Mar 2020 9:26am)

  • It's illegal to remove bird's nests or interfere with them so you're on to plums unless you can prove it's harmful to the building or unsanitary and affecting tenants. If you can't, you'll have to wait til the wee bastards fledge and fuck off and have someone put netting over the roof to stop them getting in again. by klaatubarada (Mon 25th May 2020 2:21pm)
  • Probably due to the person running the Panopticon acting like a tin pot dictator. Any half decent volunteers get burnt out quickly with all her shite, and ones that are left act like toadies. On the upside, the strip here is pretty good. The style reminds me of John Backderf. by klaatubarada (Tue 26th May 2020 12:23pm)

  • [DA Accountants](https://www.daaccountants.co.uk/) are great. Been using them for years. by klaatubarada (Thu 18th Jun 2020 2:06pm)
  • The thing with the bulk buy places is that, from what I remember, they're mostly down south so smaller shops need to regularly drive to pick up stock unless you're buying so much they'll offer delivery. Also you don't get to pick and choose what you're buying. You buy by the weight and it's pot luck what you get. There's a reason you see staff from the "vintage" second hand clothes shops in the charity ones occasionally. There was some hubbub a few years back with the west end vintage shops hoovering through the Sally Army and smaller charity places buying up stock and marking it up to fuck. by klaatubarada (Sat 27th Jun 2020 12:40pm)
  • Blochairn is wholesale so get down early during the week or Saturday. by klaatubarada (Wed 1st Jul 2020 9:37am)
  • I used to go down every Saturday to stock up. The sellers don't give a toss if your a business or not - they'll sell to everyone. Just remember it's cash only with virtually all of them and there's no machine at the market. The closest are at the shops on Royston Road and they charge you to use. by klaatubarada (Wed 1st Jul 2020 9:42am)
  • [Paisley Drinks Co](http://www.paisleydrinkscompany.com) do hampers of local producers. I nabbed one for Father's Day and it was well received. by klaatubarada (Mon 6th Jul 2020 11:14am)

  • Christ, I made the mistake of commenting there yesterday. Never again. Some poor sod was talking about a Kickstarter he'd launched and every armchair Duncan Bannatyne came out of the woodwork. Fucking embarrassing behaviour. by klaatubarada (Sat 8th Aug 2020 5:25pm)
  • >Keep in mind that most local glaswegians are getting offers of crappy high rise flats but yet a non-British family with no history in glasgow and very poor social skills, are getting a massive high ceiling victorian tenement worth maybe £300,000 (by todays prices) that will be rent free and all their bills will be paid for them. • It's not like a single business. There are dozens of businesses there selling fruit and veg. Don't bother contacting City Property Markets (who the units are leased from) since they will have no clue who sells what. Either get there early during the week, or there are a limited amount of traders on a Saturday. by klaatubarada (Fri 21st Aug 2020 8:46pm)

  • If you want to support true independent bookshops because Amazon has hammered brick and mortar stores, don't buy from the Oxfam book shops. People seem to forget that there were a few independent bookshops on Byres Road before they opened. How can you compete with a shop that gets discounted rent, discounted rates, virtually all their staff work for nothing, and they don't pay a single penny for stock? I'm not shitting on Oxfam (you can Google their scandals yourself), but if you don't want to give money to Company A that's destroying indy bookshops, don't give money to Company B that's doing the same just because it's a charity. by klaatubarada (Mon 14th Sep 2020 10:03am)

  • The hills next to the motorway were the source of it and I saw they're all gone now. by klaatubarada (Sun 11th Oct 2020 10:17am)
  • It's not a bookshop per se as in its purpose isn't to sell books. The brothers that own it are collectors of rare editions, and they usually get them buying whole collections from estate sales. They keep what they want and pop most of the rest into that shop. They inherited quite a bit of property from their folks and that's the source of their income. Remember that if they ever offer to sell you a viable bookshop business! by klaatubarada (Wed 14th Oct 2020 9:03pm)
  • Booze - [Ride Brewing Co](https://ridebrewing.co.uk/shop/) are great (and check if they ever have The Dispensary Bar cocktail cans. The strawberry daiquiri is great. Snacks - try [The Nut Shack](https://thenutshack.co.uk/) for peanuts, and [Tom's Sauces](http://curioussauces.co.uk) for beef jerky. Really tasty stuff. Soaps - [Twa Burds](https://www.etsy.com/uk/shop/TwaBurdsSoaps) do some really nice soaps, bath salts, and bath bombs. That's all I can think of right now. Hope it helps! by klaatubarada (Sat 17th Oct 2020 11:14am)

  • I lived in an area where Persimmon started building on ground that was protected habitat before planning permission was granted. They even had signs up promoting the shitey houses. All my neighbours commented and complained (around 100 or so) and the council did fuck all. Unless you're a rich cunt, the council (whether it's Labour/SNP/Monster Raving Loony Party) will not give a fuck. by klaatubarada (Tue 17th Nov 2020 4:03pm)
  • You can sit it and pass (I did) but can't actually do the work without being taken on and trained by a sparky. I passed it at 25 and was told I was too old to be taken on. by klaatubarada (Thu 19th Nov 2020 9:24am)
  • Bit shit but there you go. Only 30 more years of office work until I die, so that's something to look forward to. by klaatubarada (Thu 19th Nov 2020 1:54pm)
  • I'm not surprised most of the folk I know in a similar situation get absolutely blootered every chance they get. When you actually sit and think that you'll be spending decades doing shite office work just because you're considered passed it for training (but still expected to work for another 35 years), it's pretty fucking grim. You're not a human being, your just some lump of semi-autonomous meat that has to work in a generic office because you *shocker* didn't know what you wanted to do with the rest of your life when you were 17. by klaatubarada (Thu 19th Nov 2020 9:15pm)

  • I enrolled in a TV production course there. The first thing they did was play a showreel of the shittiest segments you could imagine, then proudly said that they were the best they had and to aim that high. I left that morning and thankfully got my money back. by klaatubarada (Wed 9th Dec 2020 1:37pm)

  • Wasn't there a hubub a while back with the Scottish Government giving funding to the producers of Outlander on the basis that they hired locals for jobs before looking further afield? Then they opened their production office in Cumbernauld? Aye, plenty of folk there that'll have worked in the industry. by klaatubarada (Fri 15th Jan 2021 12:48pm)
  • What is it with cunts working late into the night and starting at ridiculously early times in the morning? Work's stressful enough to clear your workload by 5, and then you log in to see URGENT emails sent at 10pm and 6pm. Fuck right off. by klaatubarada (Fri 29th Jan 2021 9:00am)
  • Sadly that's not the case. I'd cut them some slack if it was, but Christ, who wants to work late into the night for a shitey office job? by klaatubarada (Fri 29th Jan 2021 9:30am)
  • Honestly can't tell if it's depression, a shitty job, lockdown fatigue, or a vitamin D deficiency (or a combination of these) that makes me want to just crawl into bed and never come out. by klaatubarada (Wed 17th Feb 2021 8:12am)

  • Hold on a fucking minute. "The deal has been struck by Wheatley Group the parent company of the city’s biggest social landlord GHA." And also "It has been funded by Glasgow City Council, with money form [sic] a Scottish Government development fund". They're not a council or government aleo but a private company flinging up paper thin housing. The council can't empty a fucking bin so stop funding private companies. by klaatubarada (Thu 1st Apr 2021 9:27pm)
