  • Oh man I lived off morellos when I lived down the road from it. Don’t know what it’s like now, but amazing post drinking bender hangover cure. Do they still give you the big freaky green pickled chilli thingmay with each kebab?! by rollingnscratching (Thu 6th May 2021 6:34pm)
  • If a wedgie starts to slag you off about your accent. Just ask them to pronounce the letter “J” Fucking “Jaaaaaaaaaaaiiiiiiiii” it’s absolutely ridiculous. No cunt can slag off anybody’s accent if they can even say a letter of the alphabet right by rollingnscratching (Tue 11th May 2021 12:56pm)
  • I think gentrification has got something to do with it as well. With more cafes/bars/other cool things in Glasgow now it’s attracting more people to settle down here. It’s a destination now instead of somewhere you go for uni then bolt to London. And you get more bang for your buck over hear (at the moment) I have family trying to buy in Dublin and if you think the prices over here are crazy then have a swatch on rightmove for a similar kind of Dublin property, it’s pure mental. Could Glasgow go the same way? I also have to stop looking At properties on rightmove. I’m not even looking for a one! It’s an addiction I’m trying to kick. I need to face facts that I’m a right nosey bastard. by rollingnscratching (Fri 4th Jun 2021 6:04pm)
  • Oh don’t be sad. We have rampant sectarianism which will save our Glasgow! Thank fuck for that eh 😅 by rollingnscratching (Sun 6th Jun 2021 4:33pm)

  • I moved to langside last year and love it here. You are in a quiet pocket but near everything at the same time. The thing that blew me away about the Southside is the really cool parks nearby (Queen’s Park, pollok park, linn park) I’m sure wherever you pick you will have a nice time here 👍 by rollingnscratching (Fri 11th Jun 2021 1:32pm)
  • Have a pint of Guinness with a shot of tia Maria in it. That was a favourite of mine back in my drinking golden years. by rollingnscratching (Sun 13th Jun 2021 10:57pm)
  • Type in “moving to Glasgow” in the rglasgow search bit. You will fine hunners of info by rollingnscratching (Tue 22nd Jun 2021 10:55pm)
  • Oh I hate this as much as the next person. But look where the rubbish came from. A bin bag which hasn’t been put in the bin. Surely the person who placed the bin bag on the ground in the street bares a bit of responsibility. Because seagulls be seagulls. by rollingnscratching (Wed 23rd Jun 2021 9:02am)
  • I get your Point about GCC not having a regular bin collection. Sadly this Isn’t going to change. Does that mean that we should just Chuck rubbish on the street though? Because the evil GCC won’t give us more bins. Surely some of the responsibility lies with us as well to keep the streets clean? That rubbish looks like it’s from a foot establishment of some sort, there’s a an empty box of tomatoes nearby. Could they not bring this stuff to the skip if their bins are overflowing? It’s a pain in the arse I know but I’ve had to bring stuff to the skip all the time when I can put it in my bins. by rollingnscratching (Wed 23rd Jun 2021 9:41am)
  • By skip I mean recycling centre. I don’t have a skip in my back garden. You know what, forget about it. You are 100% Right and I’m wrong about any point I’ve made. All the best. by rollingnscratching (Wed 23rd Jun 2021 10:03am)
  • I’ve had some time to reflect with my friends and family, and after a period of reflection, Im back folks! So just here to get your opinion, if the council isn’t going to help with this (more bins etc) then what’s a good solution? Not here to argue, we all want clean street right?! From looking at this thread rubbish is a very emotive issue (and rightly so) so if anybody has a good idea how to tackle it then shoot. Go crazy! by rollingnscratching (Fri 25th Jun 2021 10:51pm)
  • Many years ago I met an old bam outside a pub who was carrying a pet brick (yes, a brick) about on a leash. He would get verbally aggressive if you tried to touch or pet the brick (we all tried because we were steaming) but he was actually quite a witty guy. All my mates who were visiting Glasgow at that time always reminisce with me about the time we met brick man. I actually have nothing valuable to add to this thread. Just thought I should share my experience with a classic Bam. by rollingnscratching (Fri 2nd Jul 2021 9:39pm)
  • Sorry to be nosey, but why are you upping sticks from Dublin? Glasgow’s more affordable I guess. What kind of things are you in to? Maybe that could help choosing between Glasgow and Edinburgh which are quite different cities by rollingnscratching (Mon 5th Jul 2021 10:34pm)
  • Watched this at GFF what a cast! And seeing Glasgow in the 70’s was really interesting. Tbh it wasn’t a brilliant film but worth checking out by rollingnscratching (Fri 9th Jul 2021 7:45pm)
  • Cathcart Rocks! I love round there. It's got a beautiful park and great historical places in it. As long as you love your flat, and it's got you on the property ladder, then you have all the reason to be happy. As my granny used to say "paying rent is dead money" by rollingnscratching (Wed 14th Jul 2021 9:35am)
  • lol "depresso" never heard that phrase before. I'm gonna use that! Top patter by rollingnscratching (Sat 17th Jul 2021 5:49pm)
  • I had to save the local cat one time when it was being swooped down on by seagulls. It just sat there shitting itself. I ran out of the flat screaming at the seagulls swinging an umbrella at them, grabbed the cat with my free arm, and hightailed back into the flat with them bastards dive bombing me as I staggered to safety. And here’s the rub, the cat didn’t even hang about to say thanks. It fucked off to a neighbours flat. Animals eh! by rollingnscratching (Sun 18th Jul 2021 11:49pm)
  • It's baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaad. Don't get on it if you are pished too. Or maybe you do have to get pished to survive it. Either you will be fucked by the time you arrive in Glasgow/London by rollingnscratching (Tue 20th Jul 2021 11:06am)

  • I’m on team “put offer in straight away” what have you got to lose. That’s your highest bid anyway and also once it goes to closing just forget about it, as there will always be somebody with more cash to flash. Also another wee tip, see on rightmove, choose the oldest listing option instead of newest one as this will show the properties that have been on the market longest. Now, these ones might be good for a wee cheeky bid if you see potential in the property/location. Could go even for a HR bid as they might be more desperate. Worth a shot anyway. But yeah if you see a place you like instruct ring up there agent and put in a “verbal” offer to put to the buyer. If they accept it get your solicitor to seal the deal pronto. A verbal offer doesn’t require them to do it so you can go straight to the buyers agent with your proposed figure. All the best! I wish you luck by rollingnscratching (Fri 30th Jul 2021 2:08pm)
  • I tell you want I want what I really really want..... Never heard of this spice boy phenomenon, I will keep an eye out for it. My favourite sub genre of trends is from the 2000's. It was the ned goth. When the goths used to hang outside GOMA the Neds used to slag them off, but then, they started to get into the Goths music after they hung out together. So then, after a period of time you would see these Neds with tracksuit bottoms on, and a Slipknot or Korn T shirt on, maybe even a wee bit of make up or an eyebrow ring. Not quite a Ned, not quite a Goth. But a Ned Goth by rollingnscratching (Sat 31st Jul 2021 7:21pm)
  • We went with Clyde Property as a seller last year. They did a cracking video for us and it was on all the major websites. I think it isn't marketed to well tbh as it should sell reasonably since its a great location. If you want me to find the original viewing video PM me and Ill try and find it (don't want to post it on the thread as somebody is obviously living in it now) by rollingnscratching (Sat 31st Jul 2021 7:30pm)
  • Have you already paid a fee? I thought this was paid when you sold the property? If you have had next to no viewings then something is seriously wrong. Remember you are the customer here, you have a nice flat in Crossmyloof it should sell quickly. If it's not working then you should have the right to walk away from the service they said they would provide. Really hope it gets sorted for you. by rollingnscratching (Sat 31st Jul 2021 8:09pm)
  • Have a good rummage through TK Maxx I got a belter "hunter" rain jacket that's amazing for a wet day. It's breathable and keeps all rain out. It's one of my favourite jacket. There's also that "Rains" brand that do light rain Jackets which look pretty cool. by rollingnscratching (Sun 1st Aug 2021 8:00am)

  • Tantrum donuts is good for doing work in as it’s just doughnuts and coffee there so there’s no pressure to drink up and get out. Nice staff too. There’s actually several cafes past the Dumbarton road/crow road cross that is worth checking out as well for sitting doing work as well. Also check out libraries, and the Glasgow uni library, I believe you can still apply for a visitors day pass there. There’s also the reading rooms in Glasgow uni. It’s the big circular building beside the uni. It’s class, you can just walk in to that one too and it’s usually quiet enough to get some work done. You can sit anywhere that doesn’t have a computer. Bring your own flask of coffee though! by rollingnscratching (Sat 7th Aug 2021 9:41am)
  • Yeah I used to go in (last time was start of pandemic though tbh) you can usually just walk in and there’s a few free spaces, especially in the centre circle part. Weekends are a lot quieter than mid week so bare that in mind by rollingnscratching (Sat 7th Aug 2021 6:56pm)
  • That’s one thing I’ve noticed on argyle street. The actual stone on the ground is pure manky! Like there was a giant house party with booze and pish flowing everywhere and they only of took a few cans away but didn’t scrub the floors. The streets have a manky stain on them! by rollingnscratching (Sun 8th Aug 2021 7:18pm)
  • Good on you for trying to address it. I too pretty much numbed myself with weed after a close family member died. It helped for a bit but when you start basing your day on when you can have a toke next then that’s a problem. I would recommend getting into some sort of psychical exercise be it cycling, walking or a sport of some sort because if you quit as you will get the post weed hump big time and will need a new outlet to focus on. You might fall off the rails sometimes but that’s okay. I have social circles that still smoke today am I might possibly have a puff when at their house, but I leave it when I leave them. If you can stop having weed in the house that will help a lot, because then rolling one can be as easy as making a cup of tea eh! Good luck on your new path and like the other posters said everybody has had some kind of vice or other during lockdown so don’t be too hard on yourself. by rollingnscratching (Tue 10th Aug 2021 1:21pm)

  • Oh I get the flooring sound issue, we are putting sound proofing underneath the floorboards themselves. I lived underneath laminate flooring for 6 years so know what it sounds like. And btw I could hear shagging in other flats when I HAD carpet. It didn’t last too long either! by rollingnscratching (Fri 20th Aug 2021 11:32am)
  • Ach that’s a shame, whenever I drive through Greenock I’m always impressed with the Victorian architecture. Their town hall is the size of Glasgow City Halls! Smaller towns in General throughout the UK are all fucked now though, same issues, the Main Street looks barren with all the major chains now closing leaving nothing behind, lack of decent unemployment, and an easy access to illegal and non prescribed drugs. You see the same issues in every town. Apart from the posh commuter ones. by rollingnscratching (Mon 23rd Aug 2021 9:18am)
  • That Cobra Marketing rings a bell. I did a similar job like that in another city many years ago, it was like a fucking cult! People were so pumped up because they were convinced they would be millionaires within a year. You worked 12 hour days and at the end of each day everybody had to dance around in a room , and if you made a certain amount of sales you got to ring a bell while everybody cheered. I lasted four days, I told them I was leaving but they said they could lend me money and told me everything would be okay. I was literally backing out of the door while they were saying this. Fuck me I’ve done some amount of shite jobs. by rollingnscratching (Wed 25th Aug 2021 10:45am)

  • The new builds in the gorbals actually look alright to me. My on issue is, where’s the shops? Where’s a cafe? Where can people bump into each other or meet up. Surely when planning these things a wee shop or cafe in the middle of the development would be a benefit to the occupants by rollingnscratching (Wed 1st Sep 2021 11:20am)
  • That’s because tasers don’t actually take Bams down, they in fact energise them and they become even more loopy so alas tasers are counter productive here. by rollingnscratching (Wed 1st Sep 2021 9:29pm)

  • Oh gawd I’m an idiot as well. I’ve said some stupid hurtful things in the past that were completely out of order. I mentally want to kick myself in the face when I think of them. But here’s the thing, you know you were wrong and are aware that you caused pain. Good on you for owning that mistake. NOBODY is perfect, not even Prince so don’t be too hard on yourself. by rollingnscratching (Thu 2nd Sep 2021 11:31pm)

If you haven’t already, ask when the roof has been totally redone as it cost an absolute fortune to get it done. If your street is quiet and your neighbours are decent enough then you should be fine. • When you come for your weeks visit, I would personally airbnb in a few different parts of the city to see how you feel about each place. Maybe west end, south side and east end. You can have a right good look around each area and see which one floats your boat. I’m southside, its got loads of great parks, cafes and bars and a general nice vibe going on. West End is the posh bit and east end is a bit cheaper to live but has a lot going for it too. If you want to go out to a pub and chat to a lot of random (and slightly mental) people then Glasgow’s yer place pal. Pull up a bar stool and lets talk some shite. by rollingnscratching (Sun 3rd Oct 2021 3:52pm)

  • Is the entire public sector fucked? There seems to be a culture of trying to get more for less out of workers. My wife’s a teacher and honestly her workload has increased by about 50% in the last 10 years. She stays late everyday to try and catch up on duties. I think it’s down to recruiting management that have absolutely no experience in a particular profession who make bad decisions on instinct instead of knowledge. by rollingnscratching (Fri 15th Oct 2021 8:47am)

  • If you have wooden or laminate floors them the sound is going to travel right through to downstairs. I’ve experienced above and below. Here’s a few suggestions to try and help with the sound travelling, you are never going to totally eradicate it, all You can do is reduce it a bit - Can the creaky wooden floors be nailed down? If yes tell your landlord that this needs done or you will have to find new tennents. Don’t wear shoes in the house - get slippers or just socks when walking around, shoes make waaaaaaay more noise. Carpeting would help a lot but I’m guessing your landlord would be like “fuck that” but rugs can be thrown over the floor to help a bit, there’s a sound insulation layer you can put underneath them too. This obviously won’t get rid of the sound travelling through when you are not on a rug, but it‘s about reducing the sound a little. Get this stuff and put cut it up into little chunks and put it under all parts of your furniture that touch the floor. It will absorb any sound that travels through to below. If lets say a chest of drawers is open and shut while sitting on wooden floors that will travel all the way through to downstairs. Here it is - [https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00E0JVN7G/ref=ppx\_yo\_dt\_b\_asin\_title\_o04\_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1](https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00E0JVN7G/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) If he won’t speak to you then post him a letter saying you are taking these steps. Don’t be cheeky in it but tell him that once we have tried all these things there’s not much else we can do and it‘s down to your landlord to sort it. Make it about the noise situation in the flat and not about the beef between you all. And remind him that if you guys move out it will either be more students that move in or even worse a young family with kids stomping, shouting and crying and then he will know all about sound issues. Does sound from his flat travel up to you as well? If yes you should mentioned this in the letter that the entire building must have bad sound proofing. If after all these steps he’s still on the warpath then I would keep an eye out for alternative accommodation and move. Notify your land lord and leave. This guy will be fighting with whoever lives above him that’s clear. One small story about neighbours at war because of sound - Some so called hard man across the road from me moved into a flat and immediately starting giving off about the noise of the above flat which only had a wee granny living alone above her. This guy basically bullied and harassed this granny who I’m guessing couldn’t have been making that much noise to the point where the granny actually sold up and moved on. Now guess who bought and moved into the flat above the hard man? An absolute fucking Psycho family with two teenage boys in the midst of been tearaway teenage nutters. The noise this psycho family created was unreal, and whenever the guy bellow tried to reprimand them he got ten fold back. Oh it was so sweet to see him get his comeuppance for basically hounding out a granny from her home. Can you guess which one of those households moved away next? 😂 Don’t know what the moral of the story is, but if you Have to move from your flat just hope the next folk that move in are absolute nutters. Then he will be thinking about the gold old days when he had four nice students upstairs! by rollingnscratching (Wed 8th Dec 2021 10:35am)
  • If you look at the old airplane photos from the Britain from above website its mad how much Glasgow has changed. https://www.britainfromabove.org.uk/en/image/SAW045966 Glasgow must have been a maze to navigate back then and let’s not forget that all buildings would be black with pollution And there would probably be a lot of smog about with industry everywhere. Still if I could time travel I would like to go back to Glasgow 1900 and dander round the city to see what it was like. Then I’d go on the Victorian Reddit and give off about how there’s a serious rubbish problem in Glasgow! by rollingnscratching (Fri 10th Dec 2021 11:32pm)

Are you under 39? If yes I would strongly recommend opening a LISA account as it’s an amazing deal for either saving up money for a FTB property or just securing more money for yourself in later years. For every 4 pound you put into it the government will chuck 1 pound in as a bonus. So 4 grand a year will give you a 1 grand bonus. That’s pretty good! As an old duffer, I totally regret not opening a LISA account in time, I was sadly 41 by the time I found out about this. 😭 by rollingnscratching (Tue 18th Jan 2022 8:38pm)

Let’s all dance down the street to Prince songs at 8.30am on a Sunday Morning In residential areas. Lets all get pissed and praise Prince. I hear the police are Prince fans too, so they will accommodate us if we are naughty And turn a blind eye cos you know, “that’s one of my mates.” If anyone says they don’t like Prince, we can hate them and threaten them with violence, in real life or online! We can tell them that Prince has been here for hundreds of years and it is our tradition to Praise him And everybody else who doesn’t like Prince can fuck off. • I think Cessnock might be a good shout. You are actually only over the river to finnieston, there’s great Victorian housing stock if thats your kind of thing. There’s a lot of new builds happening nearby which will create more demand for shops cafes etc and you have an underground stop with a really cool entry to it. Sure, match day might be a bit mental but if you are not on the main road to Ibrox then you will be fine. Plus, you get to spend your Saturday nights in the grand ole opry! by rollingnscratching (Fri 11th Mar 2022 7:34pm)

You should be able to figure out pretty quickly if they are going to chip in when it comes to repairs. If the home owner lives in the actual flat they might be up for it but if it’s somebody renting then you have to deal with the landlord which will be trickier. What area is it in?
