  • As far as I understand it, CAMHS is part of the NHS and LifeLink is a charity that provides therapy, etc. I don’t have any experience with LifeLink but a family member was referred to CAMHS after experiencing some trauma. CAMHS assessed them and referred them onto another charity for therapy. While the family member was actually seen by a psychologist at CAMHS, they ultimately just assessed the situation and recommended a service they thought would help. It sounds like they might have made the recommendation for you simply by reading your notes. It might be worthwhile reaching out to LifeLink and speaking to them about what they can offer. by sixteensecondriot (Fri 26th Aug 2022 10:38pm)

  • Girl in the office was sitting right next to the fight and got soaked with the thrown drinks. A couple in her row were talking too loud for the guy in the row in front apparently. “Wanty shut the fuck up?” is what kicked it off… by sixteensecondriot (Fri 2nd Sep 2022 4:49pm)
  • When I was 18 I got my first job in a call centre up the top of town. There was a guy who already worked there with a Glasgow smile. He looked fucking terrifying, always had a scowl on his face. Most people made a point of not making eye contact with him. I got to know him a little bit, tho, and one day he opened up about it. Turns out he was just standing at a fucking bus stop, waiting to go home and some random guy walked up and did it for no reason. Did 4 or 5 other people the same night. by sixteensecondriot (Fri 2nd Sep 2022 8:03pm)
  • I’m late 30s now so it’s maybe just that I’m not about town as much at night these days but it definitely feels like Glasgow has mellowed a bit since the 2000s. by sixteensecondriot (Sat 3rd Sep 2022 10:08am)
  • The point about the Glasgow smile, scars and psychology is really interesting. I should do something like that, get out more (but probably avoid bus stops) by sixteensecondriot (Sat 3rd Sep 2022 10:07am)
  • Yeah, I grew up in Greenock. I was 9 the first time I had a knife held to my throat. Thing was bigger than my arm. People think Glasgow is bad but it’s a city with loads of police and camera coverage. In my experience you’re more likely to see violence in the towns round about. Anecdotal tho. by sixteensecondriot (Sat 3rd Sep 2022 10:05am)
  • I mind going to a gig at the ABC. It was the revival tour, a bunch of folk from 2000s punk bands playing acoustic, so it was pretty mellow. There was one guy just standing at the back screaming “aaaaaaaaaaaarrrggghhhh” all night. If there was as much coke around then as there is now.. by sixteensecondriot (Sat 3rd Sep 2022 10:12am)

  • I don't know who you are. I don't know what you want. If you are looking for money, I can tell you I don't have any. But what I do have are a very particular set of skills, skills I have acquired over a very long career. Skills that make me a nightmare for people like you. If you let those tickets go now, that'll be the end of it. I will not look for you, I will not pursue you. But if you don't, I will look for you, I will find you, and I will kill you. • Have you tried the death metal advice people always give for noisy neighbours on this sub? Worth a shot. I was gonna say copper tape but someone beat me to it. • I found them on the Meetup app a few years ago. It’s worth having a look [there](https://meetu.ps/e/Ls0Lf/MKMCk/i) if you’re interested I. Joining the virtual meetings. Everyone was really friendly when I went. I’ll add another comment with the format they follow so other people are aware. by sixteensecondriot (Tue 20th Sep 2022 2:18pm)
  • So for the people who are interested in attending any of the virtual (or future in-person) meetings, the Meetup page for the next one is [here](https://meetu.ps/e/Ls0Lf/MKMCk/i). A week before they event, they call for submissions of less than 2000 words. If you submit something, it’s uploaded to a shared Google calendar and everyone reads it before coming along. On the night, you get some constructive feedback and/or opinions about how to improve. by sixteensecondriot (Tue 20th Sep 2022 2:24pm)
  • Check out the [Meetup page](https://meetu.ps/e/Ls0Lf/MKMCk/i) if you’re interested in the virtual events. I think I’ll have to drop them a message to see if any in-person events are planned in the near future again by sixteensecondriot (Tue 20th Sep 2022 2:21pm)

I don’t have anything written, or anything to write with, but I’ll go along just to introduce myself and see what it’s all about (if I get finished on time). • If you head to Kelvingrove on a dry day, you could probably just take one from the students playing Quidditch… or wait for the Halloween displays to start popping up and borrow from a witch. There are tons of hardware shops around. Surprised you wouldn’t find what you’re looking for in the big chains like Argos, B&Q, Homebase, etc. if you were really struggling with the independent places. by sixteensecondriot (Thu 22nd Sep 2022 12:51pm)
  • The Dangerfields are playing the 13th note on Monday if you’re here then? They’re not local (from Belfast) but were a staple of the 2000s punk scene in Glasgow )and the rest of the UK). Support was The Bucky Rage and Pïss Bäth (both from Glasgow) but Pïss Bäth have had to pull out. They’ve been replaced by The Stoaters who I don’t know anything about (and Google says are Canadian but I don’t think it’s the same band). by sixteensecondriot (Sun 25th Sep 2022 7:17pm)

  • Use Glasgow taxis. From what I’ve heard, the other companies don’t put the booking on the system until it’s time for pickup. There might not be any cars available to pick up. Glasgow taxis send it out to the drivers in advance so they can schedule the trip. I travel quite a bit for work and that’s who we use for airport transfers. 0141 429 7070 by sixteensecondriot (Wed 28th Sep 2022 3:58pm)

  • I’m autistic. I attended Glasgow uni. I felt they were pretty bad on the support front by sixteensecondriot (Wed 12th Oct 2022 7:52pm)
  • I’m autistic. I was diagnosed as an adult. I went through the NHS. I can’t sleep. If the issues you are describing are because your brother is autistic, he’ll need you to accommodate him just as much as, if not more more than, trying to change him. There are a few red flags in your post for me and I don’t feel 100% comfortable giving advice yet. Talking about having “it”, behavioural therapy and treatment make it seem like you don’t really understand what autism is. The fact that it’s you here asking about it and not him, when you seem to have a negative view of autism, is worrying me… I’m not sure you’re seeking diagnosis for the right reasons. Hopefully you’ll explain why I’m wrong. Being able to label him as autistic isn’t going to make the issues you describe magically disappear. It’ll just give you a possible reason for why those issues exist. It should help you to be more understanding of how/why he struggles. by sixteensecondriot (Mon 17th Oct 2022 2:40am)

  • Gorbals vampire is an interesting one but there’s not much to it. Wish there was more about what caused it. The catman isn’t a ghost tho. I’m from Greenock. • That’s cool. Know anyone who’s ever “seen” her? by sixteensecondriot (Sat 29th Oct 2022 9:08pm)
  • This one was quite popular recently because there was some podcast episode about it. A couple of climbers stumble upon a bothy in Luibeilt in the 70s. It looked like it had been abandoned in a hurry but they stayed the night there. There was apparently poltergeist activity through the night. They fled and it followed them back to a flat in Glasgow. They also discovered the flat had a hidden stairway or something but, as the block no longer exists, that can’t be verified. On the podcast, one of the original guys goes back to spend the night at the Luibeilt with a tape recorder. You here some rocks getting pushed over and he makes a big deal about how it just happened on its own and there’s absolutely no one there with him. Then he starts the ends scene by saying “We’ve just had breakfast and we’re about to…” I should say I don’t believe in ghosts. Just like ghost stories! by sixteensecondriot (Sat 29th Oct 2022 9:07pm)
  • I’m on about the whole second half of his story, where he said it followed him back to his flat in Gibson Street… by sixteensecondriot (Sun 30th Oct 2022 8:43am)
  • That’s freaky. How old is the building? I’ve only ever been in there once, I think. I did see a drunk guy singing the lion king theme in the doorway in the pissing rain last Sunday. by sixteensecondriot (Sun 30th Oct 2022 8:48am)
  • Freaky! I have a memory from when I was 5 or 6 of my gran’s dog who had just passed away. We used to stay over at hers quite a lot and Bear would come in through the night and lick your hand if it was out of the covers. I remember that happening a few days after he passed. Obviously just a dream but it’s stuck with me. by sixteensecondriot (Sun 30th Oct 2022 8:45am)

His aunt walked by him and his friends but completely blanked them when they all said hello and didn’t seem like herself. They were still scratching their heads when she walked by again, this time being completely normal but having no idea what they were talking about. by sixteensecondriot (Sun 30th Oct 2022 8:58am)

  • Sounds legit but I couldn’t say for sure. In the early 2000’s I went to see Muse at the Barras and missed my last train home. My dad wasn’t too happy at the 40 min drive to come pick me up. I was sitting outside GCH waiting on him. He parked somewhere up near Blytheswood Square and walked down to meet me sitting with my back against the wall near the entrance. We got back to the car and drove about a block before the polis pulled us over. They thought I was a rent boy… by sixteensecondriot (Sun 30th Oct 2022 9:53pm)

  • I and J used to be the same letter. The Jy sound was a variant used throughout the UK that has mostly died out over the years. People complaining about Scottish people using it actually do my head in. The British tried to get rid of the Scots language, along with the notion of being Scottish, in the 1700s. People like Adam Smith, of University of Glasgow fame, actively tried to kill the language and get rid of every Scotticism in writing. No wonder we’ve ended up with that shite Glasgow uni accent in the west end. Growing up, we were made to feel like we were speaking slang, and given into trouble in school, whenever we didn’t use the Queen’s English. Scots was intentionally aligned with being uneducated and lower class. I’m not saying that the Jy sound comes from Scots but I have a massive chip on my shoulder about people complaining that our language doesn’t sound English enough. I’m a writer. I have a good command of the language and I earn good money from it. I’ll say Jy until I die. It’s how I was brought up. It’s part of my culture. by sixteensecondriot (Fri 18th Nov 2022 2:45pm)
  • I’m in a relationship and I have one. by sixteensecondriot (Fri 18th Nov 2022 2:58pm)
  • Not Jy until I die?? I use Jay too. If it’s someone’s name, or a word that’s meant to use the Jay initial/sound, I’ll use it. Just like I say Pret A Manger the French way by sixteensecondriot (Fri 18th Nov 2022 2:57pm)

  • Not really what you said tho was it? And still not completely true but, again, aye, ok… I don’t think anybody asked about other European languages, did they? Adding it in does make you sound smart tho by sixteensecondriot (Sat 19th Nov 2022 11:38am)
  • Nobody said it was a Scottish thing. OP asked why it was still taught that way in Scotland. In my first reply I said “I’m not saying the Jy sound comes from Scots…” There’s no perceived anti-Scot’s linguistic bias either. There’s tons of information out there on it if you wanted to learn about it. I brought it up as a different issue around why I have a chip on my shoulder about this kinda thing. For someone who involved themselves in a discussion about language, you just don’t seem to read very well. I don’t think it’s SUPPOSED to be pronounced any way. Language is fluid. Kinda part of my point. I think using demised in that context is a bit wanky for instance, you think it’s fine. Each to their own. by sixteensecondriot (Sat 19th Nov 2022 12:11pm)

  • I’ve got two girls, 5 and 8. My oldest has had a bit of a difficult time with school due to some past trauma. She’s very social but doesn’t have many friends because all those connections were made when she was struggling to engage in the classroom. When I was at uni a few years ago I started the university of glasgow parents’ network. Dunno if it’s still going. I know there’s a bit of an age gap but I’m always happy to meet up, let the kids hang out and expand their friend circle. People have made some decent suggestions but sometimes kids just wanna run around in a park screaming 🤷‍♂️ Thinking about taking the kids to the Christmas markets next weekend if you wanted to join. There will be a couple of more girls there too, ages 6 and 9. The transport museum is also a good about: it’s free, there’s stuff for the kids to do and a Christmas market running. Drop me a message if you wanna sort anything by sixteensecondriot (Tue 22nd Nov 2022 11:20am)
  • I’ve owned 3 mk8 Honda civics and I always get my parts from eBay. The sellers are usually breakers so it’s often worth checking other parts on eBay and then calling the yard directly with sourcing questions. I’m sure there’s a decent Honda place near Newcastle I’ve bought from a few times. Granted the mk8 is newer than the 97 stepwagon tho by sixteensecondriot (Tue 22nd Nov 2022 11:25am)
  • There’s hunners of free parking all around the area. I wouldn’t worry about it, I’ve never had any issues. by sixteensecondriot (Tue 22nd Nov 2022 12:28pm)
  • There was one ticket left for the 2:30 show on Saturday when I checked for a pal yesterday. I take it that’s gone now? by sixteensecondriot (Tue 22nd Nov 2022 1:51pm)

  • Why would you fail at hitchhiking? I’ve hitchhiked all over the UK. If you’ve never done it before, I probably wouldn’t recommend this as your first attempt but it is definitely doable. by sixteensecondriot (Mon 28th Nov 2022 5:11pm)
  • I don’t like going to the gym myself. Most of my workout is running so it’s usually solo. I recently joined CrossFit tho. I think it’s pretty good for the community aspect and building up confidence with exercises you’re not used to. I’ve only been a few times but I’d recommend it. by sixteensecondriot (Tue 29th Nov 2022 8:13am)
  • It’s changing a lot. The Southside used to be more working class but over the last few years a wave of gentrification has been going on. Flats were/are going for so far above the home report price that only people who have a decent amount of money in the bank (or their parents banks) can afford to buy. Locals are being priced out. I think it’s where some of the misplaced anger at English accents comes from. It’s bittersweet for someone like me who’s always lived in the Southside. Great to see some of the new places that have opened up but it’s also losing something. by sixteensecondriot (Wed 7th Dec 2022 1:12pm)
  • I saw one in a Tesco car park last Christmas Eve. I guess keep an eye out in case he tours again by sixteensecondriot (Mon 12th Dec 2022 12:28am)
