  • That’s a busy time for flat hunting due to the influx of students although by September hopefully it’s starting to settle down a bit. A week isn’t a huge amount of time to find a place but it really depends on how picky you are and if you’re really constrained by money. If I were you I’d get a list of letting agencies and email them and explain the situation. They’d hopefully be able to give you an idea of places which will be available around that time. Edit: I’m unsure about the guarantor situation. If you can prove you have enough income it should be okay. Also, if you’re happy to share with someone you should check out spareroom by smokeyeyeandjeans (Tue 9th Jul 2019 3:26pm)
  • As much as I’m always up for more green spaces, I think we also need to focus on maintaining our current green spaces. Littering and fly tipping is a huge problem and diminishes the green space we have. by smokeyeyeandjeans (Tue 21st Jul 2020 11:08pm)
  • Pertemps is agency work and might not be the thing you’re looking for but they have some pretty decent gigs(civil service work) if you’re lucky. Good luck! by smokeyeyeandjeans (Thu 6th Aug 2020 10:27pm)
  • North Kelvinside is great and I lived there for 4 years. I’d also suggest Alexandra Parade. It’s not near the subway line but you’ve got a few different trains (Alexandra Parade, Duke Street, Bellgrove) depending on where the flat is. It’s also close enough to walk in to town on a nice day. by smokeyeyeandjeans (Tue 20th Oct 2020 8:31pm)
  • Reading this and I can’t believe nobody has recommend Baked Al Taglio on Duke Street! by smokeyeyeandjeans (Sun 23rd Jan 2022 6:35pm)
  • Heard horror stories from who? If it’s someone who has experienced it then that is a shame and unfortunate they’ve experienced it. If it’s just word of mouth I’d say things can be blown out of proportion a bit. In general, people are friendly. There will be the minority who are out of order but that happens everywhere. Glaswegians can be upfront (as you’ve seen in the comments) and a lot of their humour comes from winding people up so be prepared for some light jest especially if there’s sport on and the 2 teams are playing each other. I’d also say people will happily call folk out on their bs. So if you act like a tw*t you’re going to be told about it. And just for some reassurance, my partner is English with a southern accent and has lived here for nearly 4 years and is yet to have any issues. by smokeyeyeandjeans (Sun 20th Nov 2022 9:57am)
  • Baked Al Taglio hands down. There pizza by the slice is Roman style so consistency is thicker with but airy. Toppings are great and good variation. The large pizzas are more traditional style but equally delicious. I’ve never been let down yet by smokeyeyeandjeans (Fri 10th Feb 2023 1:24pm)
  • Good points. Also, so many more households have numerous cars compared to years ago. So there could be a household with 3 cars plus a work van parked outside with one lot of council tax being paid that also needs to cover other parts of the council budget. Alternatively, like you say, large vehicles have a much bigger impact on roads so improving freight trains to get more lorries off the road would help a lot. It would also help with environmental objectives. It would cost a fortune initially so doubt it will happen. by smokeyeyeandjeans (Mon 20th Mar 2023 8:17am)
  • Curlach is a lovely salon. Very relaxed and welcoming atmosphere. The first time I went my hairdresser Sally welcomed me and gave me her pronouns which meant I was able to follow up with mine if I felt comfortable doing so. It was the best hairdressing experience I’ve ever had. by smokeyeyeandjeans (Sat 22nd Apr 2023 3:40pm)
  • I worked with a lovely polish lady a few years ago who told me there’s a national holiday in Poland dedicated to donuts - I believe it’s the equivalent of pancake day. I haven’t specifically looked around for polish donuts but it could be worthwhile trying a Polish Supermarket for some. Grosik on Alexandra Parade has a good selection of baked goods and might have some worth a try if you’re nearby. by smokeyeyeandjeans (Mon 13th Nov 2023 6:27pm)
