I remember it was the cheapest DeLonghi on Amazon at the time. Anyway, thumbs up for a basic DeLonghi! by tsaoir (Tue 19th May 2020 9:31pm)

  • Yeah the Argyle Market! Got my ears pierced at a stall in there. In hindsight, not a great idea. Edit: actually I'm sure it was called the Argyle Arcade, even though the fancy jewellery place is also called that. by tsaoir (Wed 10th Jun 2020 3:11am)
  • How do they allocate the tables when you get there? I wanted to book for 6 but could only get a 2 and a 4. Trying to work out if we've got a chance of two next to each other! by tsaoir (Mon 6th Jul 2020 11:09pm)
  • I was going to reply to this and say "Same!" but I was inspired to check the website and everything indicates I SHOULD have a purple bin. So I just requested one! Maybe you're meant to have one too. by tsaoir (Wed 15th Jul 2020 12:20am)

  • I used to work in there. Can confirm, some started coming loose. I left soon after but my understanding is that the whole thing got checked and it's the lower bits that are a problem hence the scaffolding (as someone already pointed out, it'll do fuck all if something fell from high up!) by tsaoir (Mon 3rd Aug 2020 11:37am)
  • I worked with a guy once who lived in either the flat above or below at the time. He was quite nonchalant about it, I'd be traumatised! by tsaoir (Mon 3rd Aug 2020 10:25pm)
  • Their website is a bit crap. You have to go into each specialist strand to get more detailed info: "Academic Entry Requirements Candidates for both the MMus and MA are normally expected to hold a good honours (at least 2:2) degree, or its overseas equivalent, in a subject area relevant to the demands of the programme." "Non-standard Entry We welcome applications from individuals whose academic qualifications or English language qualifications do not match (in terms of equivalence) or fall short of the normal entrance requirements, where specified*. Having satisfied the Audition Panel that they meet the selection criteria and demonstrated that they have the capacity to pursue the proposed course of study, such applicants will be considered through examination of contextualised data provided in accordance with the Non-Standard Entry Policy. The appropriate Head of Department/ Programme will make a case in support of the applicant for consideration by the Directors of the Schools and Convener of the Quality and Standards Committee." I'd contact them to ask for some more info about the Non-Standard Entry Policy. by tsaoir (Wed 5th Aug 2020 3:05am)

  • They're definitely not all equally good. You can read inspection reports here: https://education.gov.scot/education-scotland/inspection-reports/ However I wouldn't rely solely on them. Have a look at the school's Twitter account, website, see if you can join the PTA Facebook group if they have one, to get a feel for the school. Outwith covid you probably could've visited for a tour. Your house will be in the 'catchment area' for a particular school but if you're not keen you could potentially make a placing request at another school. The council website should have info. Here's the page for GCC but depending where you stay you might actually be in another local authority - https://www.glasgow.gov.uk/article/18205/Placing-Request by tsaoir (Sun 28th Mar 2021 10:17pm)
  • In terms of their enjoyment/general school experience I'd agree, but if kids at that age don't get a solid foundation in reading and numeracy then it'll hamper them throughout the rest of their schooling. by tsaoir (Sun 28th Mar 2021 10:32pm)
  • They'll ignore your request anyway. I've been waiting a year for my requested purple bin! by tsaoir (Wed 31st Mar 2021 9:04pm)
  • I moved into a house and it appears someone stole the previous owner's purple bin, because it was missing. I have been waiting a year for a response to my request for a free of charge purple bin. by tsaoir (Wed 31st Mar 2021 9:01pm)

  • I waited about a year for a purple bin and eventually got one after Tweeting them. A few months after I got it - over a year since the original request - I got an automated email saying "Your request for a new recycling bin has been passed on to your local cleansing depot for processing." If I get a second purple bin I'll paint it green for you. by tsaoir (Wed 21st Jul 2021 12:18pm)

  • This happened to me too recently (I used to walk from Maryhill to Caledonian), but then about a week later the uni reappeared! It's called something different (like the name of a specific building, and I think it's smaller than it was originally. Seems to be right beside where it was though). It's weird how some venues completely drop on and off the site if there aren't any appointment slots released for them. by tsaoir (Wed 22nd Sep 2021 8:28pm)

  • The 90 is probably the least reliable First Bus service there is. A Zonecard and subway/bus is probably your best bet, check if your employer does a salary sacrifice scheme for travel expenses. Mine did and they gave me a cheque made out to SPT for the value of a yearly Zonecard then deducted the amount before tax from my wages over 12 months. Works out cheaper than buying a weekly or monthly Zonecard. Bonus, if your circumstances change and you don’t need it anymore SPT will refund any remaining months on the Zonecard directly to you. by tsaoir (Fri 15th Apr 2022 12:21pm)
  • Pre-booking an Uber is just as useless as pre-booking a taxi. They start looking for a driver about 10 minutes before and there’s no guarantee anyone will be around. Learned this the hard way when my kitten missed an appointment at the vet after I ‘pre-booked’ an Uber. by tsaoir (Sun 17th Apr 2022 12:25am)
  • I used to volunteer at Crossreach Bluebell Perinatal Service in the Tom Allan Centre: https://www.crossreach.org.uk/our-locations/crossreach-bluebell-perinatal-service They have a wee crèche (that’s where I volunteered) so you can bring your baby/toddler/child if you want to. Everyone I encountered there was really lovely and there were some mums (and dads!) who came for years so I think they found it very useful. It’s donation based and they’re really flexible with it I think so hopefully cost shouldn’t be a barrier. Before I started volunteering I was a wee bit wary of it being religious (as I’m not) because it’s run by Church of Scotland, but there was absolutely zero indication of any church link tbh. Good luck! by tsaoir (Thu 21st Apr 2022 8:34am)

  • If you don’t have any luck here I’d recommend selling on Twickets, I listed some Mad Cool tickets and they sold instantly because people can make themselves a wish list of tickets they want and set it up to auto buy. by tsaoir (Sat 7th May 2022 11:20am)

  • I did that course the first year it started, when it was a top up of an HND to a degree rather than a full 4 year degree. It was a long time ago but the majority of students were Scottish. There did seem to be a very high proportion of international students on the music related courses though! I’d recommend just getting out there and making short films/documentaries for fun, anyone can do it with a smartphone and free apps these days. • As a primary teacher, I would recommend a transition to something like paediatric occupational therapy. Similarly rewarding but with (I assume, maybe incorrectly) less stress/more manageable workload. I think your current skill set would be really valued in that role as well. I have been teaching for 4 years and went into it in my early 30s after doing various other things. I count myself very lucky to have a job as all I hear from probationers 2019 onwards is there’s no jobs. by tsaoir (Fri 18th Nov 2022 8:13pm)
  • This made me laugh. I am in the building 8am - 6pm (only because they make me leave) then work every evening and weekend and still have a to do list as long as a piece of string. It’s actually impossible to get it all done. by tsaoir (Sat 19th Nov 2022 10:02am)
  • I didn’t say I was spending the time prepping 🙃 bold of you to assume you know how I’m spending the time. The fact is, if I didn’t work more than the contracted hours the children in my class, particularly those with additional support needs, would suffer. It’s not as simple as “Improve your methods and you’ll be able to stick to the contracted hours” and I’d bet my whole salary that the vast majority of teachers would agree. by tsaoir (Sat 19th Nov 2022 12:15pm)
  • I take the same view (I think if we need to down tools at the end of our contracted hours to PROVE it can’t all be done) and I would very much rather not do it. But when push comes to shove I just can’t bring myself to let the kids down. by tsaoir (Sat 19th Nov 2022 1:18pm)

  • I’m in a mid market rent flat and although I had to ‘apply’ for my cat it was just a case of making sure they knew. There’s lots of dogs here too. You could also apply for +1 room over your requirements so even though I’m on my own I could have applied for a 2 bed, even though I went for the 1. The rents are far more reasonable though (£550 1 bed and IIRC £635 2 bed). And they’re brand new, in a highly sought after area, no service charges either. So I’m surprised by how high the Duke St ones are! by tsaoir (Sun 18th Dec 2022 5:49pm)
  • But it’s the HA who’ll set the rent not the government. by tsaoir (Sun 18th Dec 2022 5:50pm)
  • How long have you had it in? Mine was way over the time limit (they dropped it while it was in) and I managed to get an appointment to get a new one fitted because technically I’d been having unprotected sex and they fitted the new one as ‘emergency contraception’. I was back shortly afterwards for another new one as that one made a bid for freedom but that’s another story ha ha. by tsaoir (Wed 4th Jan 2023 3:40pm)

  • I’ve been in there twice recently and the 50ps seem to pay the wage of the ‘male toilet attendant’ you’re advised about as you walk into the ladies, and he seems to have been hired to spend the entire day slowly polishing one particular tap in there. by tsaoir (Sun 16th Jul 2023 11:13am)
  • I worked on a kids TV show for the BBC once where the sound recordist was very vocal about his appreciation of a child’s breasts. Everyone else around me acted like it was normal and just ‘banter’. He also had holdalls of porn in his van and would send me to search for specific types of battery etc knowing I’d have to rifle through the porn and then he’d say “Like what you saw?” I also went to let him know we were ready to start filming again and he was fuming that I’d opened the side door of the van as he fumbled to get his trousers back up (clearly having a wank) Everyone just put up with his vile and aggressive behaviour so that was my first, and last, job in the industry. Traumatised. I think he probably continued to approach my uni to specifically request girls to groom/take on as apprentices because they ‘work harder’ than guys, and the uni probably continued sending clueless girls his way (except for the ones shagging the tutors I guess). Pretty glad I declined his very insistent offer to stay in a Travelodge the first night I did a job with him, after he insisted getting my boyfriend to pick me up from Linthligow to drive back to Glasgow was ‘too far’. This isn’t really that relevant to Hardeep but just a taster of the Scottish TV industry I guess. by tsaoir (Thu 10th Aug 2023 1:07am)
  • I think I know the exact woman you’re talking about. I couldn’t get through the barrier at Central because I (stupidly to be fair) threw away the wrong half of my ticket, and when I explained she just stared at me and said “You need a valid ticket.” and walked off. Rude as fuck. I went over to a young guy who was selling tickets and when I explained what had happened and he was like uhhh I mean I’d let you through but it’s up to her. He looked in fear for his life, she must be a real bitch to her colleagues as well ha ha. by tsaoir (Wed 16th Aug 2023 8:39pm)

  • No personal experience but from helping out my SIL who was re-admitted afterwards, parking is definitely something that was a pain in the arse! I don’t know if some places have better options than others. by tsaoir (Tue 5th Sep 2023 4:59pm)
  • I moved to Partick last year and I haven’t seen a rat yet but I just assume they’re everywhere, I feel like every food business in the area just dumps their rubbish on the fucking pavement?! Every morning I walk to the station and there’s ripped open rubbish bags strewn everywhere. by tsaoir (Thu 7th Sep 2023 2:27pm)
  • Yeah I am always pleasantly surprised on the way home when the bags are gone but by then it’s too late, the rats have had a wee overnight feast 🥲 by tsaoir (Thu 7th Sep 2023 3:42pm)

  • They don’t actively monitor it or expect you to report it either. When I moved into mine last year I was assured that unless I die or go to prison I’ll pretty much be here forever ha ha. by tsaoir (Sat 11th Nov 2023 9:37pm)
  • Agreed. I pay £99.40 a month for a Zonecard and what really makes it worth it is the freedom to use it to get buses/subways/trains in the evenings and during the weekends as well. I could get Monday-Friday train or bus tickets + subway for slightly cheaper, but adding on all the incidental travel cancels any small saving out tbh. by tsaoir (Sun 26th Nov 2023 1:45pm)
