  • I went to my parents house in England for Christmas. My dad drove from Manchester to Glasgow on 23rd December. Not stopped or followed. Same went for taking me back to Glasgow on 3rd Jan. (context: I live alone and don’t go to the shops - always get an online food shop etc. We travelled in his car. Both of us didn’t have COVID) by Gold_Addition_5532 (Tue 9th Mar 2021 10:47pm)
  • Wonder how much it cost them to put those masks on the front of their trains though πŸ™„ by Gold_Addition_5532 (Wed 10th Mar 2021 7:44am)
  • Aye they’ve been going on for ages! Kinda feel like it’s just kids from last weeks footie with leftovers but πŸ€” by Gold_Addition_5532 (Fri 12th Mar 2021 7:15pm)
  • As above couldn’t recommend All Dog Rescue Scotland enough - not as picky as Dogs Trust/SSPCA etc and have puppies available too by Gold_Addition_5532 (Mon 15th Mar 2021 11:14pm)
  • Im a tenant and got my dog from All Dog Rescue Scotland - they allow tenants! They’re on Facebook so deffo check them out. I couldn’t imagine life without my lil rescue by Gold_Addition_5532 (Mon 15th Mar 2021 11:13pm)
  • There was quite a lot of controversy as they were partnered with a different rescue (Small Dog Rescue Sussex) who were associated with a rescuer in Romania who essentially wasn’t looking after the dogs welfare etc. SDRS knew about it and covered it up so ADRS parted ways with them before that became public. I had the same concerns and sadly my pup was transported over with the same rescuer who was found to be neglecting the dogs etc. ADRS is a registered charity, whereas SDRS was a ltd company which tbh should’ve set off alarm bells but at the time. My pup was quite sick when she arrived from the strain of travelling for 4 days but the vet saw her and said it was normal given the circumstances and she was fine after a few days. All her vaccinations etc were absolutely grand and up to date per her passport. She was toilet trained in a few days and has absolutely no behavioural issues, aside from slight separation anxiety. There are pros and cons for sure - I personally chose the rescue as they allowed dogs in flats and the fees were affordable for me - but I completely understand the doubts folk have especially after what happened with SDRS. ADRS have been brilliant to myself and other adoptees so that’s why I’d recommend them personally, it’s all about doing your research though and making sure you’re ready for a dog from Romania. TLDR; there’s pros and cons to Romanian dog rescues but overall the experience of myself and 100s of others has been positive using this rescue, but always do your research and make the time for the dog when it arrives. by Gold_Addition_5532 (Tue 16th Mar 2021 7:19am)

  • FYI - Complaints procedure is usually to the practice manager, if that doesn’t work, NHS board/HSCP and if not resolved there, Scottish public services obudsman. Not a southside resident so can’t recommend but hope that helps if you need to complain about treatment received by Gold_Addition_5532 (Wed 24th Mar 2021 5:46pm)

  • So did I until my DVB order turned up in Barburrito wrapping paper, and checked both menus and they’re literally the same choices by Gold_Addition_5532 (Tue 30th Mar 2021 7:28pm)
  • It’s so crazy, that’s what I thought like surely all these places are just going to take up the entire choice- they pretty much are already for my page! by Gold_Addition_5532 (Tue 30th Mar 2021 7:27pm)

  • Makes sense, thank you for explaining, but some are the exact same places/premises (Barburrito is for sure) as the menu items are all the same! by Gold_Addition_5532 (Tue 30th Mar 2021 7:25pm)

  • Yeh I had a google and saw F&Bs example and aye my local Mecca bingo does that too! I was so excited cos I thought we had an actual Harry ramsdens down the road lol. Not being allowed more to do with false/illegal advertising (ASA) and premises food being prepared in (so like if it hasn’t been inspected properly) and then yeh your tax related stuff. Idk it’s all weird to me but very helpful redditors have opened my mind lol by Gold_Addition_5532 (Tue 30th Mar 2021 8:11pm)

  • I got a Cycle Tone from HighStreetTV and I love it. It doesn’t have front handlebars, but two resistance bands on the side so it improves posture and core strength. Range of resistance settings. And it’s on wheels so easily moved about your house/flat! by Gold_Addition_5532 (Thu 8th Apr 2021 9:44pm)

  • Also OP- worth looking to see if your uni has any advice for intl students looking to rent - I know Glasgow uni had pages/communities specifically for flats/flat shares etc for intl students. Don’t worry too much as you’ll deffo find somewhere and good luck :) by Gold_Addition_5532 (Tue 13th Apr 2021 12:28pm)
  • It’s definitely normal especially at the prices you’re mentioning. Paisley is a cheaper place to stay especially for commuters working in Glasgow and beyond. Even more so now with Covid and people are moving to cheaper areas as their income etc decreases. I live in the east end of Glasgow but upon viewing my flat for the first time I called 2 mins after to put down my deposit (which was accepted one day after and the listing was taken down) by Gold_Addition_5532 (Tue 13th Apr 2021 12:26pm)
  • West coast is great on a sunny day - Largs is an hour or so on the train from central by Gold_Addition_5532 (Fri 16th Apr 2021 11:48am)
  • Such a horrible and scary situation. But as many have pointed out, this must’ve been someone they know - either through mutuals - or from the seller/breeder of the puppy. At that age the puppy won’t even have had its jags yet or been for a walk. Something sus definitely going on with the f*ckers that took the poor wee thing. by Gold_Addition_5532 (Fri 16th Apr 2021 4:30pm)

  • Game changer thank u by Gold_Addition_5532 (Sun 18th Apr 2021 12:26am)
  • Just do that and you’ll be grand. Covid is here to stay. Negative test is a negative test. All the vulnerable people have been vaccinated by now. You’re going to have to come back at some point. The official guidance has never made any sense at any point during this entire thing so just act with precaution and make sure you keep yourself and your immediate family safe. by Gold_Addition_5532 (Sun 18th Apr 2021 10:39pm)
  • Are you not worried about the environmental impact of 30K+ people coming to the city regardless of covid? Considering we’re in a “””climate emergency”””. Don’t understand why the whole thing isn’t being done remotely. by Gold_Addition_5532 (Mon 19th Apr 2021 8:25am)
  • Do you really believe that? by Gold_Addition_5532 (Mon 19th Apr 2021 9:11am)

  • I have friends who stay in EK and it has everything you need. Good transport links, good access to shops and amenities, plus there’s been quite a lot of redevelopment and modernisation to the area. I would say it is. House prices/rent is very reasonable too. by Gold_Addition_5532 (Mon 19th Apr 2021 11:39am)

  • Can confirm their coffee and muffins are very very good. S’mug next door/behind M&S also have lovely coffee too at good prices. It’s a new local business what’s not to like! If you do go it is cash only at the moment. If you look inside when you go you can see they’ve kept some of the features from when it used to be the toy shop. by Gold_Addition_5532 (Fri 23rd Apr 2021 7:51am)
  • Can just tell the people downvoting this have access to their own garden, and enjoy living life in lockdown wearing a mask 24/7 whilst sneering at others because they want to prove themselves to be the best at following The Rules. Despite the fact that we have several fully working vaccines and the clear fact we just need to get on with life at this point. And yes, I know people who have died from this virus. But the fact is these are kids who have missed nearly 2 years of their schooling, deprived of social interaction. Of course they’re going to go the bloody park to drink on a sunny day. Your young years are for messing about and making mistakes. The police should just be doing general patrols in case things get out of hand. Not locking park gates in wealthy areas of Glasgow and using stop and search ffs. by Gold_Addition_5532 (Fri 23rd Apr 2021 11:28pm)

  • Curious Q: why go to a Uni in a city or country you’ve never visited? Also be prepared to have most of your classes online and not be on campus/have much fun since Scottish unis have dealt with the Covid situation horrifically... by Gold_Addition_5532 (Sun 25th Apr 2021 11:11pm)
  • I mean this in the nicest way possible but have you seen Glasgow city centre? Homeless people definitely are not given houses or flats in a couple of months (even though they should). Especially men living on their own. Priority goes for those with children I believe. The council and govt have slashed funding for housing esp for the homeless over the years. To be honest but in a situation like yours, it sounds easier to get somewhere private to rent again (within your budget of course) at the same time going for HA stuff. I’m not sure choosing to just give up and make yourself homeless because you’ve been evicted a few times will sit well on applications. Find a reputable letting agent or go for Mid Market Rent eg Lowther Homes. May also be worth getting in touch with Shelter, Citizens Advice and Living Rent Glasgow. Best of luck :) by Gold_Addition_5532 (Sun 25th Apr 2021 11:17pm)
  • Yup by Gold_Addition_5532 (Sun 25th Apr 2021 11:21pm)
  • Ahh I see- it’s definitely good you’ve got some people you know over here too. The UK/Scotland is v well connected through train so you’ll have no bother getting around to visit. Shocked that you think the price is good but I know some unis in the US charge way more than the intl fees of our unis. Oh and a good tip for UoG, join their gym if you can and pay upfront. Its probs the thing I miss the most about it! by Gold_Addition_5532 (Sun 25th Apr 2021 11:30pm)
  • Sorry, of course, I meant the other comments telling yourself to register homeless with the council etc! by Gold_Addition_5532 (Sun 25th Apr 2021 11:39pm)
  • Avoid “Fortis Student Living” (believe they may have rebranded)? Their properties are on Jamaica Street, St Andrews Square and Bath street by Gold_Addition_5532 (Mon 26th Apr 2021 12:40pm)
  • I don’t understand why Glasgow doesn’t have more, and better, outdoor drinking spaces. Thinking about the city centre there’s nowhere that is genuinely nice and enjoyable to drink outside. (Maybe exception being near the GOMA but even then it’s noisy af from the kids skating outside the museum and you still get harassed by folk off the streets) Yet you look at London, Manchester, Newcastle etc. It’s a joke. The sooner these non sensical restrictions end the better. by Gold_Addition_5532 (Wed 28th Apr 2021 4:28pm)
  • I know, that massive space by Candleriggs would’ve been amazing if the council approved it. But no they just stick to closing down libraries and other public services. by Gold_Addition_5532 (Wed 28th Apr 2021 4:46pm)
  • This. Plus recent testing trends show that <2% of tests taken are positive. Today it was literally 0.9%. 75 people of a population of c.6 million in hospital. by Gold_Addition_5532 (Wed 28th Apr 2021 6:12pm)
  • It’s a legal thing. We’re not allowed inside pubs for some reason. But dining is okay. And it’s okay for wedding receptions, with alcohol, with 50+ people. But again. Pubs = not okay. by Gold_Addition_5532 (Wed 28th Apr 2021 6:14pm)
  • There were no outbreaks linked to hospitality last year and that was pre-vaccine by Gold_Addition_5532 (Wed 28th Apr 2021 8:29pm)
  • Scottish govt holds all the data for outbreaks that stemmed from various places, usually schools or indoor work places such as food packing plants/factories. Hospitality venues didn’t feature on any of them last year. by Gold_Addition_5532 (Wed 28th Apr 2021 8:52pm)
  • I think the council and government are already doing enough to ruin the custom of local venues or those that are left by Gold_Addition_5532 (Wed 28th Apr 2021 9:44pm)

  • I disagree with this and I think the overly strict laws contribute to this perceived image. It’ll only get worse with the restrictions limiting opening/closing times of pubs and bars by Gold_Addition_5532 (Thu 29th Apr 2021 1:31pm)
  • You can access a lot of the highlands from queen street station! by Gold_Addition_5532 (Thu 29th Apr 2021 7:37pm)
  • also note it may be tempting to reply to the texts like “as if you think I’d fall for this” “try harder” “f*ck off” etc etc (seen this a lot on Twitter) but a lot of the time these are sent out en masse from random number generators. Any kind of reply just tells the scammers your number is active and you’re at risk to be spammed/scammed more. by Gold_Addition_5532 (Fri 30th Apr 2021 10:28am)
  • I’m confused, did they actually arrange a bulk uplift or did you?? It’s literally free and you just need to take it down to where they specify which is either outside of your flat or by your normal bins (I’m pretty sure you can leave a note on the form saying where your stuff will be and what it consists of) by Gold_Addition_5532 (Fri 30th Apr 2021 11:16pm)

  • <1-2% of tests are positive on a daily basis, in their 100s. All vulnerable people now vaccinated. 0.001% of the population in hospital. Outdoor transmission non-existent. So pretty much. by Gold_Addition_5532 (Mon 10th May 2021 12:09pm)
  • Because our population is higher and we have the highest proportion of people living in the highest SIMD areas? Also a “case” just equals a positive test. Majority of the vulnerable population have been vaccinated. Over 50% of our population is now vaccinated. Just 0.001% of the population is hospitalised with Covid (likely picked up from the hospital in the first place). by Gold_Addition_5532 (Mon 10th May 2021 12:24pm)

  • The mental gymnastics you must’ve gone through to use that as an argument when it literally says “it is not possible to determine with certainty where they were infected”. The police come into close contact with the public on a daily basis, indoors and outdoors. And then home to their families, who in turn will be in contact with others. It’s highly unlikely it was from an outdoor event since the virus is barely transmissible outdoors. by Gold_Addition_5532 (Mon 10th May 2021 12:56pm)

  • Lol okay, my two parents and sister, and two friends. That’s it for close contact and people I’ve had in my flat. But you go ahead and make assumptions! One of them is a teacher too so indirectly mixes with 100s of households daily. This government loses all credibility for any “control” over a virus when schools open up. Can’t go to the pub or someone’s house but yeh let 100s of kids mix and then go back home etc. You either lock down everywhere or lock down nowhere. None of this “levels” shit. Yet SNP politicians/councillors (Mhairi Hunter, Alison Thewliss, Susan Aitken etc) were ENCOURAGING people to go to Pollokshields, yet Rangers fans celebrating isn’t okay to them. Either ALL mass gatherings are bad, or NONE of them are. • You mean him as an individual member of a larger political party? I’m not “beyond thick”, I’m applying the principles of collective responsibility (or collective guilt) which you’re all trying to do for INDIVIDUAL supporters of a football club. Those who are guilty of criminal offences should be dealt with by law enforcement and the justice system. • I’m pretty sure they did something similar last time and I can see them doing the same again tbh - I don’t really keep up with the club so I wouldn’t know. I agree they should cancel season tickets etc of individual fans identified to have committed crimes yesterday, because that punishes the individuals. Punishing the club ie fining them etc wouldn’t discourage this behaviour in future as the fans who cause trouble won’t suffer (although hopefully that won’t happen as they won’t win again lol) by Gold_Addition_5532 (Sun 16th May 2021 12:20pm)
  • The point being in that scenario the SNP held the rally. Rangers, as a football club/business, did NOT organise or condone the events of yesterday. It was, *statistically*, a minority of their total fans. Of course I agree the club need to condemn in full but funnily enough we as human beings have full autonomy and can choose how to behave. It just so happens that 1000s decided to behave like total imbeciles. One would hope the police will do a full investigation to identify the individuals causing the most damage. • The funniest part is they actually believe that this is still being driven by science. Non-essential retail is open with no distancing. But it’s technically illegal to have a few friends around in your home. Essential retail open with no distancing. Apparently the virus is spread from surfaces, yet no major outbreaks linked to supermarkets where people are picking up/putting down 100s of items every day. Weddings and funerals are allowed with alcohol allowed. Yet you can’t have a drink indoors in a pub or restaurant. Again, weddings and funerals can have a large amount of guests, but don’t you dare think of inviting a few friends around to your house. Primary and secondary schools are a free for all: quite literally 100s and 1000s of households are indiscriminately mixing daily - not to mention on their way to/from school on transport - but again, don’t you dare have anyone in your house even if you’ve assessed the risk between yourself and your pals. Technically illegal to leave or enter Glasgow from the rest of Scotland, but legally you can travel to and from the RoUK. And don’t forget the selective science of mass gatherings where the virus can tell if you’re a Rangers fan - in which case you WILL definitely spread the virus - or if you’re a very virtuous Home Office protester or Hamas supporter, in which case you definitely won’t get infected or spread it. Honestly if anyone thinks the government are using science at this point and not just making it up as they go along they are kidding themselves. The rules make absolutely no sense. by Gold_Addition_5532 (Mon 17th May 2021 12:22pm)

  • Glasgow is literally one of the unhealthiest places in Western Europe, let alone Scotland and the UK - ridden with an overweight, obese, ageing and infirm population. Covid was naturally going to have a devastating impact. We have dense urban areas that are overpopulated. That’s also considering co-morbidities and social determinants of health eg poverty, unemployment/underemployment, alcohol and drug use to name a few. New Zealand isn’t comparable in any way other than population numbers. They have a totally different culture, demographics and health/socio economic outcomes. We were NEVER going to be like NZ. by Gold_Addition_5532 (Tue 18th May 2021 10:38am)
  • You’ll be absolutely fine. Maybe do some LFTs before you go but honestly don’t worry. Non essential retail is open, pubs open (outside) and indoor dining allowed. You’ll still be able to do lots. • But the vaccination is clearly effective against most variants. Scientists have confirmed this. The SA/Kent thing blew away and now if this Indian variant is making up 1/7 cases (said today by SAGE/UK gov estimates) then the hospitalisations/deaths would’ve gone up by now - which they haven’t. It might be more transmissable but it isn’t causing hospitalisations and deaths. Viruses mutate. It’s science. We need to just deal with it by Gold_Addition_5532 (Tue 18th May 2021 10:46am)

  • Where’s the proof for your first statement? There’s no evidence that it is any deadlier, just that it’s more transmissible. If it caused more serious illness then the data for hospitalisations and deaths would reflect that. The variant has been in Scotland since the end of April. I’m not arguing for ICU cases to go up, I’m arguing for common sense and for these restrictions to end. Yet we can roll out the red carpet all over the west end/town for this nonsense! Public transport - a key factor in mitigating fuel emissions and reducing car travel - is dire, can’t get a bus or train past like 11.30pm, still no trains at all on a Sunday. Glasgow subway only runs from what 10-6pm on a Sunday? Costs are huge - same journey time on the train from say Manchester to Liverpool is a third of the cost of a return from Glasgow to Edinburgh. You’re right by Tollcross Park which is great for the dog. The people are friendly. Big Tesco and Aldi, lots of cafes and takeaways. Not far by bus from the Fort and Forge shopping parks/centres. The buses to town go right by the Barras too for live music. My rent (private) for a 1 bed flat in a clean modern building is £475 pcm (with bills I pay about ~£600). Periods becoming so irregular, not having periods for months, having too frequent periods etc. Never happened to me after any jag I’ve had in the past. Not to mention the blood clots scandal with the AZ vax and now they’re doing further studies on the Moderna jag because of Myocarditis in men. I’m not completely against the Covid jags, clearly for the elderly and vulnerable they’ve been lifesaving. But at this stage of my life and fitness, the side effects of the jags in their current forms are more of a risk than me getting Covid. Speaking as someone who had mild Covid in March 2020. I want to wait until the rollout has surpassed a decent length of time. If your THREE jags work why are you so terrified of me, who is literally Covid free, lmao. Fuckin weirdos. by Gold_Addition_5532 (Wed 17th Nov 2021 8:30pm)
  • Pro informed choice doesn’t mean anti vax! So frustrating by Gold_Addition_5532 (Wed 17th Nov 2021 8:42pm)
  • The Parole Board in England/Wales are a fucking shitshow, don’t think there’s any hope with anyone working in that area of work tbh - Scotland included I think Prison should be a combination of all 3 - with different priorities for different types of criminal. I would say keeping them locked up is better for the public in the long run, given that they’re *locked up*. But hey, we all have different opinions on ethics and morals when it comes to crime and punishment! Oh and goes without saying we need a fuck ton more funding in this area. Just look at recent events at HMP Shotts and HMYOI Polmont by Gold_Addition_5532 (Wed 17th Nov 2021 8:41pm)
  • First Buses: 2, 60/60A, 61, 64, 240, 255, 263 all go up towards the east end where you can walk to Celtic Park - they all run from the city centre (240/255/263 you can get from Buchanan Bus Station). Should be £2.50 for a single and day ticket is £4.60 I think by Gold_Addition_5532 (Thu 18th Nov 2021 9:28am)
  • Yeh the reason why it attracts so much criminal activity is it’s legal status here. I have no idea how we can be so behind the USA of all bloody places when it comes to the cannabis issue by Gold_Addition_5532 (Thu 18th Nov 2021 10:36am)
  • If people are moving from the South of England, statistically speaking they’re more likely to earn more. Thanks to the Scottish government classing anyone earning over £26K as rich, myself included, we now pay 1% more in tax than we would if we worked in England. Therefore people with well paid jobs moving to Glasgow from England contribute more to the Scottish economy by paying more in tax. How the hell is this bad for the economy?! by Gold_Addition_5532 (Thu 18th Nov 2021 2:28pm)
  • It’s absolutely nuts. Bet these are the same folk who say refugees welcome, people make Glasgow etc. But when it comes to someone wanting to move their entire life to Scotland from England to live, work and pay *more* tax for the privilege, suddenly it’s not okay?! It’s the exact same “they’re taking our houses and jobs” rhetoric the far right use against EU citizens and immigrants. Who, ironically, these types of folk will say they despise. That friendly civic nationalism in action eh! by Gold_Addition_5532 (Thu 18th Nov 2021 2:32pm)

  • Roll on the need for a negative LFT only. Not going to bother taking them but ordered kits just for the numbers to register them negative. Wouldn’t go out if I had actual symptoms of course but finally a return to some normalcy. by Gold_Addition_5532 (Wed 24th Nov 2021 3:59pm)
  • Funny how part of SG’s evidence for implementation was a YouGov study showing that nearly 55% of the population support a vax passport scheme…..won’t accept 55% for a different public vote though…. by Gold_Addition_5532 (Wed 24th Nov 2021 3:57pm)
  • Everyone knows you can’t catch Covid sat down duh by Gold_Addition_5532 (Wed 24th Nov 2021 3:55pm)
  • LFTs are useless too. Better just to live with it now and PCR test (and isolate) when you have symptoms or been identified as a close contact. by Gold_Addition_5532 (Wed 24th Nov 2021 4:22pm)
  • Why would I take a test if I don’t have symptoms or been in direct contact with someone who has the disease ffs. The LFTs are useless anyway. by Gold_Addition_5532 (Wed 24th Nov 2021 6:36pm)

  • You’re better off going private if you need something urgent. The NHS waiting lists were already ridiculous pre-COVID. You’ll be waiting over a year. by Gold_Addition_5532 (Mon 29th Nov 2021 12:06pm)
  • Tens of thousands of people flew in from 190+ countries just weeks ago, using LFTs only and our own Govt officials walked around maskless whilst encouraging Joe public to invite them into their homes. • How’s the “mandatory” mask approach worked for Scotland? by Gold_Addition_5532 (Tue 30th Nov 2021 8:28am)
  • So not effective in reducing the spread of the virus, it’s actual goal? Gotcha. The fact is the place you’re most likely to get Covid is in a hospital or care home. Not because someone who quite clearly isn’t ill didn’t wear a mask to go to Asda for 20 minutes. by Gold_Addition_5532 (Tue 30th Nov 2021 8:38am)
