  • I didn't really get migraines until I went to Uni, then I seemed to get them all the time. Like you said, it would just wipe me out for the day, and this would happen multiple times a week meaning I basically was looking at having to re-do 3rd year. I went to GP repeatedly, who originally fobbed me off, but after a while referred me to a specialist. That didn't really get me anywhere. More advice about painkillers etc but I was still getting migraines about 3 times a week. Anyways, eventually my dentist noticed that my jaw muscles were getting really strong, and it turned out I had bruxism. I basically had overworked my TMJ muscles / joint and this was exacerbated with uni stress. So now I have a mouth guard to wear at night and I can't even remember the last time I had a migraine. by OohRahMaki (Fri 3rd Jul 2020 11:00pm)
  • When we were looking for a flat in that area the estate agent warned us against those flats. Apparently the high factor fees make them a bugger to sell. Also the one we were looking at was £300 a month factors due to the lift. Your situation may be different, but we were only looking to stay in a flat for a few years or so, so we decided it wasn't worth the bother (and the expense!). by OohRahMaki (Sat 11th Jul 2020 2:58pm)
  • Check out the South East Integration Network - they link to a whole host of 3rd sector / community projects. by OohRahMaki (Thu 30th Jul 2020 7:26pm)
  • I've been flat hunting lately, and some of Purplebricks viewing agents have been really awful! Completely unprofessional, rude about the property / decor / furniture / area. They pointed out flaws and did not mention any of the great features etc. It has definitely made me think more carefully about who I want to go with to sell our flat. by OohRahMaki (Fri 14th Aug 2020 9:46pm)
  • We've been caught up in this. We have started looking outside our first choice areas but still not having any luck - we lost out on one in Dennistoun and we bid 20% over home report - we were 4th. And another last week in Cambuslang, we bid 12.5% over home report as we though it'd be less competitive out of the city - didn't get that one either. It really is crappy, but clearly there are people with a lot more capital than us that are putting in crazy bids. by OohRahMaki (Sat 15th Aug 2020 7:07pm)

  • Hi, I just wanted to clarify a few points. Whilst I don't disagree entirely what you are saying, some of it is categorically incorrect. I work in a statutory service (not the Home Office I should add!) and I work extensively with asylum seekers. Also simple fact checking can disprove some of your claims if anyone wants to look it up themselves. The Home Office do not refuse the majority of asylum cases - it is currently running about 50% percent of cases are rejected. A portion of these will then be appealed and granted. This number has changed over the years as more asylum claims are being granted and refused. The majority of asylum seekers who have a negative decision from the home office remain in their accommodation whilst going through the appeals process. There can be multiple appeals which can take years (sometimes over a decade!). Very few are detained and generally only under very specific circumstances. I agree that the long-winded and never ending circles of appeals and decisions is terrible for asylum seekers mental health or basic human dignity. However, misinformation devalues and weakens the argument. by OohRahMaki (Thu 13th May 2021 6:09pm)

  • Sounds daft but I’m not sure. It is difficult to get a close up look as a false ceiling has been put under it, and you can’t step there it without an additional support of some kind. The one in the neighbours is cast iron but has clear glass - glass may have been replaced at some point. by OohRahMaki (Tue 22nd Jun 2021 3:34pm)
  • Yep, prepared for it to be a bit of a project and fully expect there to be an expensive reason for it to have been covered. Ah so get both in but in stages, I was hoping for a one man to solve it all but this definitely sounds like the way to go - thanks! by OohRahMaki (Tue 22nd Jun 2021 3:37pm)
  • Thanks for the info! That makes a lot of sense, there was a fair bit of old water damage when we moved in. Definitely could have been related to the deteriorated roof light. I’ll try to find some more adventurous roofers! by OohRahMaki (Tue 22nd Jun 2021 4:57pm)
  • This looks like exactly the company I need! Thanks by OohRahMaki (Tue 22nd Jun 2021 6:55pm)
  • We were in your position! Really wanted a specific type of property with a garden and just couldn’t get anywhere at the closing dates. It might not be for everyone, but we went for a tiny flat in a slightly worse area just to get on the ladder. Mortgage was cheaper than rent so we could still save like crazy. We stayed 3 years and by the time we sold it we had a good chunk of savings, the equity in the property, plus made an extra 10% where the house prices had risen. Obviously we got lucky, and you can’t guarantee that prices will go up, but it gave us that boost to get into the next price bracket with the funds to go over HR. Also in an extra few years your incomes may increase with career, so that all helps with mortgage affordability etc. Now we have a garden and are in the area we want! It was definite short term pain (2 adults WFH in a tiny 1 bed) but it paid off in the long run! by OohRahMaki (Fri 30th Jul 2021 3:33pm)
  • What is their lunch deal? Been in there for an evening meal but seemed fairly pricey for what we got? by OohRahMaki (Thu 26th Aug 2021 11:38am)
  • I have just bought an Elite Craftsman High Eave greenhouse. It was only delivered last week but it is really solid, horticultural glass (my preference over toughened), powder coated aluminum, 6x8ft, integrated base and rainwater kit. It was \~£850, so waayyy cheaper than Robinsons or similar brands that you would buy at a Dobbies. The only downside is long lead times - we ordered in March so it was near enough 6 month waiting time. by OohRahMaki (Sun 5th Sep 2021 2:27pm)
  • Find a local locksmith that does 24hr call out and save it to your phone - handy in an emergency if you have a bad habit of locking yourself out!! by OohRahMaki (Thu 16th Sep 2021 5:08pm)
  • It pains me to say a mildly positive thing about Boris, but it currently looks as if it is Germany and Italy are holding back the sanctions, not the UK for once. by OohRahMaki (Thu 24th Feb 2022 4:36pm)
  • Look, it is shit - I 100% get that. Could you down grade the property you hope to buy? Lets face it, you can work all hours a day, never buy an avocado and cancel netflix or whatever the advice is. But, the fact is properties are going to get more expensive faster than you can earn and save. For example, I bought a 1 bed in a not great area for an absolute steal. It really was one of the cheapest properties in the area and much worse than what I was renting previously. It was too small for us, especially with both of us WFH. It was a shitty location that honestly, I hated. It also needed a lot of work that we had to do ourselves bit by bit. But mortgages are so much cheaper than rent so we could up our savings AND had the capital paid out in mortgage payments. We then sold after an extra 3 years saving and had enough capital as the flat had increased in value to go into a bigger property in a better location. by OohRahMaki (Wed 16th Mar 2022 6:34pm)
  • Call 111 after 6pm. Or you can call the dental hospital directly during work hours. by OohRahMaki (Thu 2nd Jun 2022 10:15pm)
  • Sorry, but a part of what you have written is not correct. Just to confirm, asylum seekers in Home Office accommodation don't pay any heating, electricity or council tax costs. Asylum seekers aren't in local authority housing, but flats paid for by the Home Office. The £40 per person, per week is for food, travel etc. Don't get me wrong, overall the system is abhorrent, but I think there is so little understanding of the actual asylum system that good arguments become diluted with incorrect statements. by OohRahMaki (Fri 16th Dec 2022 8:43pm)
  • Glasgow houses most of Scotland's asylum seekers. Anyone working with asylum seekers know that food delivery is a really easy way to make regular money to either supplement their Home office support or to send home. Deliveroo and Just Eat know they have a huge problem, and have done "raids" in other cities, but they really they are paying lip service and don't do anything to resolve it. The problem is, because asylum seekers don't have right to work, often the very limited training is given to a real contracted "employee". But then multiple people without right to work will actually use the "account" to do the deliveries and get their cut. It means any irresponsible riders never really gets dealt with. by OohRahMaki (Sat 22nd Jul 2023 5:06pm)
  • Are you taking about the NHS Alcohol and Drug service? They definitely still take on service users who are actively using. Also, I know it's not a race to the bottom, but in comparison to other parts of the UK, the waiting list is much shorter, and they're comparatively much better funded. I referred someone and within 8 weeks they had an inpatient rehabilitation place. That would have been unheard of in England. by OohRahMaki (Wed 23rd Aug 2023 7:02pm)
