  • Is anyone early ? by Optimaldeath (Fri 25th Jan 2019 6:07pm)
  • I’ve had the displeasure of this happening to me twice, I gave in the first time, but the second time ignored him and consequently got told I’m a ‘motherfucker’ and attempted to spit at me. I’m usually perhaps unfortunately ambivalent with beggars in general, but this is simply harassment and the police need to have a word. by Optimaldeath (Sun 17th Feb 2019 8:18pm)
  • Feel like an idiot now walking around in an orange jacket :/ on an old firm day... walked right past it none the wiser. by Optimaldeath (Sun 31st Mar 2019 10:15pm)
  • Will there be a club at the end of this 🤔 by Optimaldeath (Fri 24th May 2019 10:00pm)
  • I do wonder what GCC is doing with this place... They can't not know what they're like. I think I've been once, and i know it's anecdotal, but probably with merit that they allegedly (illegally) raise prices on drunk people, which while i'd say drunkards probably deserve it walking in there, it's not a good image. Maybe with the renovated station, GCC will be taking an interest in the street. by Optimaldeath (Fri 2nd Aug 2019 7:26pm)
  • I indubitably agree. 🤔 by Optimaldeath (Mon 9th Sep 2019 3:20pm)
  • Really needs a lot more ecological (there is an "effort") focus, also tired of the same old designs that seem so prevalent in so many cities right now. Don't want to be a NIMBY, but come on try harder. by Optimaldeath (Thu 3rd Oct 2019 3:33pm)
  • Don't really want to defend this, but i do want to at least make this comment, because i believe this is more than a little suspect. This discretionary quite literally replaced something called the "clothing allowance", so why is it suddenly strange that the Lord Provost, someone who's meant to represent the city in a manner befitting a Lord Provost (looking professional for the most part). Obviously among the cuts to services (in no small part because of Labour's insistence on fighting women on pay for years...), this looks bad, but it's literally meant for this reason? She also hasn't maxed it out either by the looks of things, £8000 over 28 months is about £3000-4000 less than what she could have spent. This honestly seems like a really poor smear frankly, like the car last time when it was literally a gift that anyone would have accepted. Surely a FOI request should go out to the Lord Provosts to see how much they spent of the clothing allowance to see if this is a legitimate critique? by Optimaldeath (Tue 8th Oct 2019 12:39pm)
  • For the love of everyone’s mental wellbeing, can they please return the square to something that isn’t a concrete eyesore? There just something awfully depressing about the centre of the city being this shite. by Optimaldeath (Fri 7th Feb 2020 9:24pm)
  • Oh, so that's what it was. by Optimaldeath (Thu 21st May 2020 1:29am)
  • I think it may have stopped recently, but it was sort of south/south east of the necropolis I believe... Maybe i'm going insane :\\ by Optimaldeath (Thu 28th May 2020 12:59am)
  • Hopefully he moves to Parler with the rest of them. by Optimaldeath (Fri 26th Jun 2020 7:30pm)
  • Clubs should be made responsible for the actions of their fans by making them liable for damages and if any damages were caused to also make them liable for cost of policing. by Optimaldeath (Mon 8th Mar 2021 2:41pm)
  • Assuming it's nothing to do with the second part of my comment which is just conjecture, I'll expand my reasoning. Currently there are no incentives of merit that either the club or it's fans (including the entirely innocent folk tarred with a brush) to stop folks causing an costly disturbance. Making clubs liable would resolve this problem as the clubs would have a genuine desire to protect the clubs finances and the fans shouldn't want to burden their club with difficulties for fear of insolvency. It's an equitable compromise to me, though I understand that technically I don't think it's possible to make law. So my second suggestion would be to outfit police units with video recorders in addition to AWPR systems setup around major public spaces. If the clubs can't be made liable, the people directly responsible should be. by Optimaldeath (Mon 8th Mar 2021 4:52pm)
  • Which pub was this? by Optimaldeath (Wed 12th May 2021 5:57pm)
  • Figured as much. Can't help but think naughty conspiratorial things about the plans for flats on that corner considering the backlash from last time... To be fair though, that corner is a bit manky. by Optimaldeath (Wed 12th May 2021 6:27pm)
  • I don't think this is justified even though I understand the concern with how badly it went the previous times we opened up. I doubt that the government will u-turn, but I think they should as the threat is really not worth the hysteria anymore. If people don't like this, then I suggest that you tell your MSP's how you feel about it and presumably with enough pressure they might relent. by Optimaldeath (Fri 14th May 2021 8:18pm)
  • I'm not sure it has anything to do with partisanship. Enough pressure would provoke the government into questioning it's decision-making, but if people think it wouldn't be listened to for whatever reason... then people also have 7 other MSP's they could contact. by Optimaldeath (Sat 15th May 2021 12:07am)
  • They're outside, I don't much care for if that were where it ends (also so long as they avoid breaking memorials). The issue is if they go home in groups to intermingle, have big indoors parties and all those Ulster imports getting back into aluminium cans when they go home. by Optimaldeath (Sat 15th May 2021 7:04pm)
  • Do they hate dogs? Also if people wonder why Glasgow gets 'disproportionate' funding, then here's a reason why. Really is about time for a Greater Glasgow authority... by Optimaldeath (Sat 15th May 2021 9:20pm)
  • Having to afford public services and spaces when a good proportion of the users don't pay council tax is the overarching reason. This is just an example of that, albeit one that isn't that much of an issue with Glasgow being a major city and so occasional event expenses are expected, but nonetheless there is still a problem with council boundaries that needs resolving. by Optimaldeath (Sat 15th May 2021 10:28pm)
  • I don't think that a few people downvoting makes a sub 'morally repugnant'. Besides some mindless partisans and bots, some folks might think some evidence is required to substantiate your claim. Even so, I think without some sort of mitigation (plastic cups?) for excessive amounts of broken glass, Glasgow Green is likely never going to be allowed for such an event. by Optimaldeath (Sun 16th May 2021 12:24am)
  • Is anyone actually stopping you from doing those two things? by Optimaldeath (Fri 28th May 2021 2:59pm)
  • You think they want to anger people in what is currently their heartlands? Doesn't seem practical to me. I think what's happened here is that they're far too afraid of the risks involved after putting so much effort into setting limits and judging metrics. I get the concern they have, but equally there comes a point where the government should let go of the responsibility and give it back to the individual when the risk no longer justifies it. by Optimaldeath (Fri 28th May 2021 3:17pm)
  • If people don't feel that restrictions are credible then they can act against it if they wish to, they would just have to be aware of the potential consequences of doing so in terms of the risk of getting caught and the risk of being or causing infection. by Optimaldeath (Fri 28th May 2021 3:27pm)
  • Raised crosswalks ought to cut most of it out at the cost of making driving through the city centre even more of a lolworthy experience. by Optimaldeath (Sat 17th Jul 2021 12:22am)
  • Is there a reason this is still up? by Optimaldeath (Tue 19th Oct 2021 4:41pm)
  • They're just looking out for the ol' folks and drunkards. by Optimaldeath (Thu 21st Oct 2021 7:47pm)
  • They're likely going to try to demolish it anyway as they may face charges and fines if debris starts falling on pedestrians. Nothing is going to be done until people start campaigning in a serious and widespread manner to save the building such that it becomes politically unsustainable to avoid acting. The landlord doesn't care because they'd prefer a new building for student flats or offices, the council has various competing interests and so does the government, so only the city itself can push for a change in direction and it isn't going to happen if it's limited to making angry comments on social media. by Optimaldeath (Fri 22nd Oct 2021 1:22pm)
  • What would you say is causing this substantial shortage? by Optimaldeath (Fri 22nd Oct 2021 5:50pm)
  • I'll assume that's accurate and pose the following question, considering overall crime rates have halved in the last 20 years... what's the incentive for more police? by Optimaldeath (Fri 22nd Oct 2021 8:07pm)
  • Whilst I imagine there's likely some semblance of a plan involving expanding the building's use as a viable venue and would hope the rarest/oldest plants were salvaged, this doesn't immediately appear like a sensible way to go about it. I'll ignore the myriad of arguments about difficulties the council has faced for years, whether they be internal or external, funding related, political/institutional (staff) incompetence or fundamental flaws associated with local government (especially true for GCC) and of course the pandemic's sharp thwack on council priorities because it's already been said. Personally I think people should stop pretending that a new set of councillors is going to change much of anything and start thinking about what they're going to do about conserving the city's heritage. I think this either involves pushing for the national trust to take ownership or a community driven charity which has the sole purpose of sustainably maintaining these buildings/grounds. by Optimaldeath (Thu 4th Nov 2021 10:55pm)
  • Isn't that whole area is about to be ripped up for development? by Optimaldeath (Fri 5th Nov 2021 9:15am)
  • Think my opinion of the bar just shot up. by Optimaldeath (Sun 7th Nov 2021 8:52pm)
  • Top quality banter that. by Optimaldeath (Fri 26th Nov 2021 1:43pm)
  • No party is ever going to be able to manage GCC after decades of single-party rule, even Labour is a slave to the machinery they set in place. The whole thing needs to be replaced. by Optimaldeath (Fri 26th Nov 2021 1:48pm)
  • Well if we're talking about M8-Buchanan Street half, then it's a given that it will be loud and smelly, but it's also interesting and lively. Nobody should be under any illusions that it ought to be some sleepy neighbourhood and frankly the city would be worse for it if it were. In fact I think we desperately need new laws to protect the nightlife in our cities before the repopulation of city centres further sanitises their respective locales. by Optimaldeath (Fri 28th Jan 2022 12:40pm)
  • Sanitising Glasgow will rip it's soul out, it's fine the way it is. by Optimaldeath (Wed 9th Feb 2022 9:08pm)
  • Japan might have something to say about that considering the lack of bins in their cities, though admittedly it was mostly in response to a terrorist attack, but still the result isn't a rubbish strewn cesspit. If people took their waste home with them they'd realise the breadth of their problem instead of dropping it in public where people can blame everyone else other than themselves. Plus it might serve to instil some personal responsibility for our shared spaces that people seem addicted to trashing. by Optimaldeath (Tue 22nd Feb 2022 7:31pm)
  • We really should institute an incentive to turn up by decreasing the margins required for bills passing when elected officials decide they'd rather have a tantrum instead. by Optimaldeath (Thu 16th Feb 2023 5:25pm)
