  • Thanks for all your comments guys! It has definitely helped! A place has been chosen but I won’t say where to stop anyone getting too high a horse! by TiredSloth (Sat 11th Jul 2020 3:51pm)
  • There’s a place on hope street opposite the pot still called deli (or New York deli, or nic’s New York deli who knows) and their food is incredible. Both big sandwiches and amazing doughnuts for really good prices! I think they also have a location in the west end but I’m not super sure as I’ve only been to the one in town, but it sounds like maybe exactly what you’re after! by TiredSloth (Tue 4th Aug 2020 11:24am)
  • That’s what we’re hoping for!! by TiredSloth (Mon 17th Aug 2020 4:20pm)
  • I live in Cardonald which is quite possibly the least talked about area in all of Glasgow. It is boring here I’m not going to lie. There’s Paisley road west which is great for takeaways but that’s about your fill. However, we are excellently connected. Right half way between both braehead and silverburn, 1 stop out from Glasgow central on the train. Excellent motorway connections. A semi-decent morrisons. It’s a good, plain place to be, but I got a 3 bed here for £75k! So you’d definitely get something great for 150! by TiredSloth (Sat 29th Aug 2020 8:49am)
  • LOVE the bartering page. I’ve gotten rid of and subsequently re-collected so much stuff with it by TiredSloth (Tue 29th Sep 2020 10:58am)
  • I run a photography tutoring business - which I know isn’t exactly what you’re asking for here, but I’d be quite happy to sit down with you (probably on zoom right now so we don’t fester in the rona) and discuss your portfolio/what to do to improve. My Facebook page where you can easier get in touch - https://www.facebook.com/jfphototutor/ by TiredSloth (Tue 29th Sep 2020 11:07am)
  • Amazing! I really hope it takes off and we can see all the weird shite people have to swap by TiredSloth (Tue 20th Oct 2020 7:55pm)
  • Maybe try Paisley abbey a few stops out from central? I’d phone first and ask but I often see college students shooting in there? Best of luck! by TiredSloth (Wed 11th Nov 2020 10:13pm)
  • Amazing! Took a walk down there with my girlfriend after seeing your photo, luckily it was just as gorgeous a few hours later! You’re not wrong about the icy paths though. Were on our arses more than our feet! Keep on taking photos, would be amazing to see you take the photo from the same angle for every season in 2021! by TiredSloth (Sat 9th Jan 2021 2:51pm)
  • Met the organist who played this. Really nice guy. Loves to talk about this performance and all his other contemporary organ performances! Happy to see it pop up again! by TiredSloth (Sun 10th Jan 2021 12:16pm)
  • I second this!! One of the best made quizzes!! by TiredSloth (Fri 22nd Jan 2021 9:16pm)
  • You could be an absolute life saver! Thank you so much! by TiredSloth (Sat 23rd Jan 2021 11:14am)
  • I’m really enjoying it so far! I’ve only ever had truly awful economy cars so it’s cool to have something a wee bit more exciting! I never realised car seats were meant to be comfortable! by TiredSloth (Sat 23rd Jan 2021 3:04pm)
  • Thanks so much for the recommendation! by TiredSloth (Sat 23rd Jan 2021 3:03pm)
  • Thanks so much! I’ll take a look! by TiredSloth (Sat 23rd Jan 2021 3:09pm)
  • Hey, while I totally value this opinion and get that entirely, I need a car to commute to my job. Unfortunately at the minute I am not in the position to afford something super economical/electric, so am really chuffed to have inherited something so valuable to us. I am also very much of the mindset that if I can keep this car going for as long as possible, then that is better than it going to a scrapheap somewhere while I buy something new that no matter how efficient, will have to have been produced in a large factory. Thanks for your input though! :) by TiredSloth (Sat 23rd Jan 2021 3:08pm)
  • Oo magic thank you I shall take a look! by TiredSloth (Sat 23rd Jan 2021 5:34pm)
  • Amazing! Such cool cars. Looks like they’re going to be my go-to! by TiredSloth (Sat 23rd Jan 2021 7:28pm)
  • *Update* thanks so much to verygneiss, dratsaab, and carrieplaysguitar for recommending Schoneville Saab. Those guys have been amazing getting parts that even I myself couldn’t find ANYWHERE and it’s all going to be fitted and ready for me to pick up and enjoy from tomorrow! Thanks guys, means a lot! by TiredSloth (Mon 25th Jan 2021 3:47pm)
  • Love how silky the water looks! by TiredSloth (Mon 25th Jan 2021 10:38pm)
  • Hey! Thanks so much anyway. I’ll keep you in mind if I ever need anyone! Cheers! by TiredSloth (Tue 26th Jan 2021 2:45pm)
  • Yes they are! I’ve been myself many times and they were only closed for the first lockdown! by TiredSloth (Sat 30th Jan 2021 1:13pm)
  • Have a look at Harry bensons work! He mainly shot in America but was from Glasgow and his favourite work is all Glasgow based! Had a lovely wee exhibition at pollok house a few years back by TiredSloth (Fri 5th Feb 2021 9:14pm)
  • Spot on! You’re the voice in my brain that I wish I had in every debate I’ve had about independence! by TiredSloth (Fri 5th Mar 2021 5:09pm)
  • My best ludicrous price story is from a few years back when went on holiday to Paris. My flight back from Paris to Edinburgh was cheaper and faster than the Scotrail service from Edinburgh to Glasgow. Mental. I really do hope this changes scotrail into the company that they definitely could be! Look forward to seeing what happens next! by TiredSloth (Wed 17th Mar 2021 8:54pm)
  • I just phoned the number mentioned here and I have myself a slot booked for Sunday. So happy to have come across this thread. Thanks so much for recommending that phone number. Absolute star man. by TiredSloth (Thu 20th May 2021 7:04pm)
  • Been working up there a lot recently and have noticed it getting busier and busier as the days go on. If you want to go, go sooner rather than later! And enjoy it! It’s a lovely place. Make sure to bring swimming stuff and if you’re feeling really brave rent yourself some watersports equipment before coming back for a barbecue (one of the best bits about the place is once lunchtime hits for the rest of the day the whole village smells like barbecues, reminds me of the before. The sweet, sweet before.) by TiredSloth (Tue 29th Jun 2021 8:21am)
  • I know it’s not much use over the summer, but maybe a college? Somewhere that has hairdressing students and photography students both looking to improve their portfolios? by TiredSloth (Sat 3rd Jul 2021 9:22am)
  • I think they’re filming in the city right up to the end of the month! by TiredSloth (Thu 15th Jul 2021 5:59pm)
  • Loads of good spots, but all the prime spots are all camping management zones, so make sure to book to avoid any upset. I imagine there’s quite the backlog at the minute with the weather being so nice so plan in advance, or, if you can, explore somewhere a little further from home! If you know what you’re looking for, a wee look on google maps can find you some incredible (and less popular) spaces! I hope you get something sorted! Love to see more people than ever out camping! by TiredSloth (Thu 15th Jul 2021 7:16pm)
  • There’s a place called the baby grand just next to the kings theatre. It has lovely intimate jazz nights! It is very small though so might be worth booking! by TiredSloth (Wed 11th Aug 2021 7:03pm)
  • Hey! I think you can still pick up applications at your local library. It was pre-covid when I did mine but I can’t imagine the process is much different now. Take a passport photo with you and you should be able to fill it out there and then! Hope that helps :) by TiredSloth (Wed 11th Aug 2021 9:39pm)
  • First of all, as a photographer, thank you so much for putting more consideration into your gift than that cup that looks like a camera lens. I get it. It’s funny. It looks like a lens but it’s a cup. I have been given roughly 15 billion of them. I will never escape their grasp. In terms of photography gifts, I would say to get them something like a photo book by one of the greats. Not only is it not something that you can’t get “wrong” (e.g. getting a canon flash for a Nikon camera etc.), but I have never once been uninspired while looking at a photobook. Depends what sort of photography they are into but have a look at Irving Penn’s centennial if they’re into portraits and the like, or if you want to make it a wee bit more Scottish themed, Martin Parr’s Think of Scotland is a magic book detailing weird stuff all around the country. Available in all good (and probably most shite) bookshops. Alternatively have a go with a traditional art book. I’m really into the work of Edward Hopper at the moment, and his paintings are family photographic with an incredible use of light. Taking jn his work is totally changing how I’m looking at making pictures. Anyway, enough of sounding like a total artwank for one day. Shite at lager ideas as not my drink of choice. Hope this helps, Cheers! by TiredSloth (Fri 17th Dec 2021 12:15am)
  • Completely self teaching. I visited my dad a few weeks back and made some candle holders out of old whisky barrels with him which has really sparked it. My dad is really good with his hands but he has lived abroad since I was a spotty teenager who didn’t want anything to do with him, so I’ve not really had someone there to teach me these things until then. It was really fun so super excited to start my own journey with it. Looks like a good set of chisels is on my list now…. If you know of any cheap hobbies please send them my way! by TiredSloth (Sun 16th Jan 2022 6:04pm)
  • Yeah I have done this before in the past but wanted to see if there were some better places. Great advice though! by TiredSloth (Sun 16th Jan 2022 6:02pm)
  • Thank you to everyone for all your lovely comments. This is exactly what I was after! I am now on the hunt, and couldn’t be happier! :) by TiredSloth (Sun 16th Jan 2022 6:01pm)
  • Ah magic, thanks so much for this. Really appreciated! by TiredSloth (Sun 16th Jan 2022 6:09pm)
  • Ah fantastic. You wouldn’t happen to know the best place to get a chisel or two? Happier to go Second hand than visiting b&q etc. And also does it matter if they’re a brand I’ve heard of? Or (and this might sound silly if you’re in the know) is a chisel a chisel? by TiredSloth (Sun 16th Jan 2022 6:07pm)
  • Amazing, that sounds magic. I’ll give them a go for sure as I work nearby and never even knew they existed. Thanks!! by TiredSloth (Sun 16th Jan 2022 6:05pm)
  • Fab advice! Thank you so much! by TiredSloth (Sun 16th Jan 2022 10:24pm)
  • Yeah you too! Take care by TiredSloth (Sat 19th Feb 2022 5:32pm)
  • Hello thanks so much for getting back to me. Yeah I’m under the income threshold (woo!). The form just has some strange things like “have you overspent this month?” Like, no but I’ve lost a weeks wage so I mean in retrospect kind of? I think it must just be a standard DWP benefits form that you fill out. Just seems rather odd, and I wanted to check on here to see if anyone had had the same thoughts! Cheers by TiredSloth (Sat 19th Feb 2022 5:32pm)
  • Yeah that’s great advice, I will do this. Thanks for taking the time to help. Really reassuring! :) by TiredSloth (Sat 19th Feb 2022 6:25pm)
  • I worry about this sort of thing a lot living in my flat. Maybe I’m just getting sensitive in my old age but you’re right, somewhere community run that you could go to just to make a racket fannying about making stuff would be great! Let me know if you find anywhere!! by TiredSloth (Wed 23rd Feb 2022 8:18pm)
  • Aye looks like it’s just north of the college. Nearer Paisley road west. Someone suggested batgirl filming which is definitely plausible. Just want to know I’m not being invaded by aliens!! by TiredSloth (Sat 12th Mar 2022 10:06am)
  • I think you’ve hit the nail on the head. Thank you! by TiredSloth (Sat 12th Mar 2022 6:19pm)

  • See this is what I had heard was going there which I was quite excited for! by TiredSloth (Mon 18th Apr 2022 10:03pm)
  • This is so cool! Thank you for letting me know about this. Feels so good to support something like this! by TiredSloth (Fri 3rd Jun 2022 8:26pm)
  • I’ve lived in Cardonald for 7 years. I genuinely can’t think of a better value area to live in. 2 train stations (Cardonald is the first stop out from the city centre), Morrisons, Aldi, right smack between braehead and silverburn, super easy to get onto the m8, right at the Clyde tunnel so you can be in the west end in < 10 minutes. I really like it here, even if it is a bit plain Jane (but that makes it considerably cheaper than the fancy bits!!) by TiredSloth (Sun 5th Jun 2022 5:43pm)
  • There’s an amazing place that sells recycled wood on south street. https://glasgowwood.org.uk by TiredSloth (Tue 19th Jul 2022 3:20pm)

  • Natural spice opposite Morrisons in Cardonald! Lovely guys and genuinely never once had a bad experience in 7 years of living here. Top place in my books by TiredSloth (Fri 22nd Jul 2022 9:54pm)
  • I’ll add another recommendation for Kay’s. I work nearby them and haven’t been to a friendlier, more honest garage in all my years on the road. Legends! by TiredSloth (Fri 22nd Jul 2022 10:08pm)
  • I’ve heard of this place being called Scotland’s Chernobyl. Seeing that aerial shot the description is not far off! by TiredSloth (Wed 27th Jul 2022 3:33pm)

  • Amazing! I’ll definitely take a look by TiredSloth (Mon 5th Sep 2022 2:09pm)
  • Awesome! Looks like I’ll have to invest in a bike carrier for the car now too… when you find a cheap hobby let me know!! by TiredSloth (Mon 5th Sep 2022 2:08pm)
  • So so many things I would love to see in Glasgow. More spaces for young people to be outdoors, restaurants/spaces that make use of the Broomielaw/Clydeside, better public transport links/more bike stations, more going on in the city centre, and so much more. I love Glasgow so much, but man does walking around it today make me feel like we are missing so many great avenues for growth and enjoyment. by TiredSloth (Mon 5th Sep 2022 2:20pm)
  • Ah that’s magic! I will look into that! by TiredSloth (Mon 5th Sep 2022 2:42pm)
  • Oh! Great suggestion. Thanks so much! What a handy app! by TiredSloth (Mon 5th Sep 2022 8:02pm)
  • Clearly never been to union street by TiredSloth (Tue 6th Sep 2022 10:05pm)
  • Hi there! I’m so sorry to hear that you are having issues finding a job. There are heaps of avenues that can help you get started, even if it’s just a job to help keep you a float while you look for something else. I would start by getting someone to go over your CV and an example cover letter. This can be someone you know and trust who is good with words, or a professional from a company which helps with getting you started. In Glasgow there are businesses like skills development Scotland who would be really happy to help you with this. I hope you get something sorted soon! Nothing worse than being a full-time indeeder!! by TiredSloth (Mon 12th Sep 2022 11:32am)
  • I got a paddle board from a wee shop in anniesland called west end outdoors. Cool place! Pretty sure they had wetsuits too! by TiredSloth (Fri 23rd Sep 2022 4:15pm)
  • I’m really sorry to hear about this! Myself and my partner are currently going through a very similar thing, albeit our neighbours aren’t religiously motivated, they’re just knobs. As everyone else is saying here get yourself some cameras. They have massively helped myself and my partner feel safe after our car window was smashed. You’d be surprised how good cheap cameras are these days. In the end we went for a ring doorbell and outside camera, and yes obviously there’s an upfront cost to that but I would have paid 10x that when we put them up for a sense of security. Hopefully you can get something sorted soon! Aw the best by TiredSloth (Wed 28th Sep 2022 7:03pm)
  • All charity shops are a good shout! If you are looking to buy something new, check out an outdoor shop? I’m not sure they’ll meet your cuteness standard, but if you get something with an actual verified waterproofness rating (measured in mm) and look after it then it can be the last rain jacket you ever buy! The people who work in outdoor shops are usually really nice too and can help you demystify the numbers etc Sincerely, An outdoor shop worker by TiredSloth (Wed 28th Sep 2022 7:06pm)
  • Is the jacket gore-tex? If so, on Saturday 22nd gore-tex are fixing jackets for free in Ellis brighams in Braehead! Register on brighams website and all you have to do is show up on the day! Hope this helps! by TiredSloth (Sat 8th Oct 2022 8:45pm)
  • DELETED I don’t have an answer to this but please let me know how non-stick they turn out to be. Would save me loads of time scraping my eggs off my council heaters every morning. Just don’t wash them with soap! by TiredSloth (Tue 25th Oct 2022 5:53pm)
  • The best place I found for it was greaves sports on Gordon street. They seemed to have had the best selection, as well as the most interesting and informative foot analysis. I tried run4it and they were totally fine too but they didn’t have a huge selection of shoes to suit once analysis was complete. Hope you get something sorted because good shoes make such a massive difference! by TiredSloth (Sun 6th Nov 2022 8:10pm)
  • Work in the centre! We have heard nothing but bad things about the (assuming now previous) owner, wrapped up in court cases and not paying staff etc, which we assume has lead to this closure. We are hoping that now it gets bought over by someone who actually cares about the business and gets it back to its prime! I can’t imagine the place is cheap to run, but it’s such a huge development that it would be almost impossible to tear it down and convert it to shops without a huge upfront cost. by TiredSloth (Wed 16th Nov 2022 3:55am)
  • Sorry, no :( closed until further notice from today 16/11/22. Fingers crossed someone buys it out soon though and it can be bigger and better than ever. I really feel for all the folks working there who are facing job loses right now. by TiredSloth (Wed 16th Nov 2022 10:47pm)
  • I hope so!! by TiredSloth (Thu 17th Nov 2022 3:17pm)
  • The Braehead shop usually has a slightly better stock situation than the one on Buchanan street! Hope this helps! by TiredSloth (Sat 10th Dec 2022 3:01pm)
  • Hello! I work in an outdoor shop here in Glasgow on the higher end of the scale, while the things we sell are of excellent quality and materials, you don’t NEED them to have a good time outside. I have found that the majority of the basics can be found at almost any retailer including primark, H&M, mountain warehouse etc. If you are looking to splurge on 1 or 2 main things that make the biggest difference, a good waterproof shell jacket with a rating of at least 15,000mm is a good shout, as well as a good mid thickness insulating layer (feather down or synthetic both have their pros and cons). Let me know if you have any deeper questions on any of this stuff! I would be happy to help :) by TiredSloth (Tue 13th Dec 2022 3:21pm)
  • This was the one I ended up going with! Great place! Thank you very much :) by TiredSloth (Wed 8th Mar 2023 8:07am)
  • Yeah as above your best bets are John Lewis, Richer Sounds or GuitarGuitar. I got mine from GG. Hope you get your hands on some. Very good!! by TiredSloth (Sat 15th Apr 2023 4:38pm)
  • Silverburn has a rack at the ground-floor door of the multi-storey car park which always has heaps on and a big sign saying they’re free to take :) by TiredSloth (Sat 17th Jun 2023 8:08pm)
  • There’s a badminton club near between Braehead shopping centre and the QEUH. Never been myself as I think they would probably laugh at my ancient charity shop rackets but I’m sure it’s good! by TiredSloth (Mon 19th Jun 2023 11:12pm)
  • Perfecto. Just what I wanted to know. Thank you! by TiredSloth (Fri 23rd Jun 2023 9:54pm)
  • Hello! Sorry for the late response for this, but I had a great time at AM. Big hill was fenced off but the fence was all caved in on the gym side, so there was a good few hundred folk sitting up on the hill with me. Such a chill vibe with no hassle whatsoever. Convinced we got a better view than half the paying crowd. If you do go to GnR have a great time! by TiredSloth (Mon 26th Jun 2023 6:49pm)
  • You’ll have a great time im sure! by TiredSloth (Mon 26th Jun 2023 10:00pm)
  • Hi there! You’ve struck my area of expertise! I work in one of Glasgow’s many (albeit quite expensive) outdoor gear shops. I deal with exactly what you’re after several times every day, so let’s see if I can help! Waterproof clothing can be found for very cheap. At the end of the day a bin bag is 100% waterproof, however it has absolutely no breathability to it and therefore after a day walking around the city you will get almost as wet with sweat (we all do it folks) as you would in the rain without a jacket at all. Enter proper waterproof jackets. Waterproofs come in many shapes and sizes but the key thing you’re looking for when you buy them from anywhere is the waterproof fabric technology they are using. Outdoor gear gets a bit jargony here but the main 2 buzzwords to look for in my opinion are pertex shield and goretex. Pertex will be slightly more breathable, but goretex will be more waterproof. These fabrics can be found in all different brands of jackets including but not limited to Rab, Mountain Equipment, Patagonia, etc. You might have already heard of goretex, as people often come into the shop now asking for a goretex jacket when infact they just mean a rain jacket (the same way they hoover not vacuum their house!). Goretex is absolutely the industry standard for waterproofing, providing the only full waterproof guarantee for the life of any product carrying its name. However, because of this it does carry a definite price premium. Take a look at jackets with a goretex paclite material for a bit of a discount with the same level of waterproofing! A good jacket can be a big investment, but if you do your research and get a good product it genuinely can last you years and years. I might be a little bit bias, but I would always recommending going to a specialist outdoor retailer and talking to the staff there. For the most part we don’t bite and we’re happy to talk to someone who appreciates the help. Most of the time it’s the best bit of our day!! If you need a hand with anything else let me know, but I hope that helps a wee bit!! Cheers! by TiredSloth (Wed 30th Aug 2023 10:54pm)

  • Yes, always, always layers. Make sure when you’re buying a waterproof that you have plenty room to put an insulating jacket or big jumper underneath and you should be good! So glad we could help!!! by TiredSloth (Sun 10th Dec 2023 8:16pm)
  • So it’s all about what your idea of a budget is. To some people, spending a couple hundred on a jacket is a no brainer because that’s a budget jacket to them, whereas others will never consider buying a jacket over £30. It’s totally subjective. My best advice to you would be when researching jackets to look at their Hydrostatic Head (HH) ratings. This is measured in mm and is a laboratory test done to the waterproof membrane/material in a jacket by stretching a section of the jacket over a pressurised water machine that simulates a column of water. For a fabric to be considered ‘waterproof’ is must hold back 1500mm of water. This might seem like quite a lot but in reality a jacket with a 1500mm rating would leave you very wet. Water hitting you as a raindrop carries much more pressure than one might imagine. The absolute bare minimum I would recommend in Scotland is 10000mm. Gore-tex, the industry standard top-of-the-line membrane which I talked about in my original post sits somewhere around 28000mm. If you are after a few specific picks at certain price points, my ideals would be: Mac in a Sac Packable jacket - 10k mm - £30-40 The North Face Quest jacket - 18k mm - £110 Patagonia TorrentShell - 20k mm - £180 Mountain Equipment Makalu - 28k mm - £300 Arcteryx Beta LT - 28k mm - £400 These jackets are really just the start and bear in mind that every single one will fit differently and have different features that you might find useful/pointless. As I said originally, the best best way to find out is to come to a dedicated outdoor retail shop such as Tiso, Cotswold Outdoor, Ellis Brigham etc and talk to the staff. Any team member there worth their time knows the gear inside and out and has used it on the hill, as well as everyday pub and/or dog walking. I hope this helps, and if you need anything else just give us a bell :) All the best! by TiredSloth (Tue 12th Dec 2023 11:42pm)
