  • I don't know why you're being downvoted for telling the truth. If another guy calls you doll, he's patronising you. by blu_rhubarb (Mon 23rd Aug 2021 11:09pm)
  • If a guy is calling you doll, he's pretty much insulting you. This comments section is mad. Lived here my full life and to a man, I don't know anyone who'd take the term doll as anything else. Half the people in these comments aren't Glaswegian, comparing it to 'pet' from the Geordies when really, it's nothing of the sort. If a builder in a roll shop said to me "gon hand me a napkin doll", I'd be like fuck this guy. by blu_rhubarb (Mon 23rd Aug 2021 11:13pm)
  • Your input is useless. The guy was insulting OP, if he was a complete stranger. by blu_rhubarb (Mon 23rd Aug 2021 11:44pm)
  • You were most likely insulted. Being called doll by another man is a sly dig, trying to hint at your femininity and noise you up. It's not similar to love or pet like others have suggested, as it's entirely female. If this guy was a stranger, it was an insult. by blu_rhubarb (Mon 23rd Aug 2021 11:47pm)
  • DELETED Just because someone insulted OP, doesn't mean I'd give a fuck personally if someone called me doll. I've been called worse by bigger pricks than you. by blu_rhubarb (Tue 24th Aug 2021 7:44am)

  • It's mad that if you mention racially motivated attacks in this sub, you get downvoted and people denying their existence. South side has been full of them for years. Obviously the more Asians on the area increases the likelihood of Asian crime, but to deny some of the assaults are racially motivated is daft. It seems people just want to think of their area as how they want it to be and not how it is. by blu_rhubarb (Fri 10th Sep 2021 11:50am)

  • It's amazing they spent so much money on upgrading most stations, which were fine anyway, when all people ever wanted was money to be spent on a better service. by blu_rhubarb (Wed 27th Oct 2021 12:54pm)
  • True, bit now most stations have been 'upgraded', which they spent millions on and you still can't access in a wheelchair. Nor can you realistically bring on a pram. by blu_rhubarb (Wed 27th Oct 2021 1:32pm)
  • Sunday past 6pm........ With the point of the post, I thought that was obvious. by blu_rhubarb (Wed 27th Oct 2021 1:31pm)
  • The reason is cost. I'm pointing out that they spent a lot of money on a facelift of the stations, when the money would have been better spent on improving the service. Don't worry, I know that complaining about it on a Reddit forum is not going to incite change. by blu_rhubarb (Wed 27th Oct 2021 1:40pm)
  • That's just bullshit. by blu_rhubarb (Wed 27th Oct 2021 4:05pm)
  • Of course you need maintenance, but that as a reason is bullshit. They don't have to do it Sunday evenings after 6. I've mates who work on the railways and they do maintenance overnight, the subway could follow the same method. Do you really believe that they just push this aside during the busiest period of the year at Christmas? Or they won't be carrying out maintenance over cop26? Of course not, they adapt to suit the later timetable. The guy above is right, you just love an argument. by blu_rhubarb (Wed 27th Oct 2021 5:56pm)
  • I somehow ended up in Coatbridge once and had to walk back to Glasgow cause no taxi would take me. Took like 5 fucking hours. by blu_rhubarb (Thu 28th Oct 2021 12:23pm)

  • This guy has a point tbf. You're not struggling in a £950pm flat in Giffnock. A lot of Glaswegians would love to be in that position, and wouldn't "take it for granted". Fucking hell. by blu_rhubarb (Fri 29th Oct 2021 5:48pm)

  • It is a shitehole though. And if you work in Glasgow 9am the train is 7 or 8 quid for a return, for what is a 10 minute journey. Hardly "costs fuck all". by blu_rhubarb (Tue 16th Nov 2021 6:34pm)
  • "it has an M&S and Holland & Barrett" 😂 Fair enough I missed the part about op being a student and the travel therefore being cheaper. Sure there are shiteholes in Glasgow, it's all relative. But for me that doesn't raise the profile of Paisley because there's poor areas in Glasgow. Each to their own. It's a valid suggestion, I just canny stand the place. by blu_rhubarb (Tue 16th Nov 2021 10:50pm)
  • Regardless, Pedos are definitely a minority. by blu_rhubarb (Wed 17th Nov 2021 4:59pm)
  • Honestly, do many people have had the same thought as you or have already made the move. It's making Glasgow impossible for Glaswegian first time buyers or even rental. by blu_rhubarb (Wed 17th Nov 2021 5:29pm)
  • It's really frustrating personally, and seeing all my friends struggle. I'm all for immigration but this situation is not the same. I doubt OP or anyone else considering the move will take this into account. by blu_rhubarb (Wed 17th Nov 2021 6:09pm)
  • You put it better than I could and I couldn't agree more. by blu_rhubarb (Wed 17th Nov 2021 7:03pm)
  • Not particularly, no. it's not as if people are moving to new homes in these areas of Glasgow. They're pushing out the people who already live here because they can no longer afford to live here. That's the bigger picture. by blu_rhubarb (Wed 17th Nov 2021 10:38pm)
  • Why does that ruffle you? It helps put in perspective your situation, as you have used mine to further your own point. How does it mean people are paying more taxes? People living in Glasgow are being pushed into Lanarkshire, Renfrewshire and further afield because people from London fancy a change of scenery. You aren't paying additional taxes, you're paying the same taxes as the guy who can no longer afford to live in Glasgow. Your point about opening jobs in this climate is rather moot as more and more positions are becoming remote. Which is also a reason we've seen so many people move from all over the UK to Glasgow as they don't need a base for work. You say I'm grumpy, I get why it comes across like that. But tell me, who are the right people to take it out on and why are you the wrong people? by blu_rhubarb (Wed 17th Nov 2021 10:57pm)
  • I was referring to the fact you were ruffled I had looked at one of your most recent posts. You're not getting it. 'the larger the population of a city' - the population isn't increasing because of people moving into private let's and buying property. They're just taking the opportunity from local people who have to then move elsewhere. If you have a look throughout this sub for the past year, you'll see nothing but people struggling to find somewhere to live. You aren't increasing the population, you're replacing it. And fuck off with your condescending tone, I make a decent living and am content with that. You might want to move to Glasgow, but a lot of people in Glasgow will hold it against you. by blu_rhubarb (Wed 17th Nov 2021 11:16pm)
  • Is it aye? by blu_rhubarb (Thu 18th Nov 2021 1:05pm)
  • Interesting. Over the years I've chatted to plenty of homeless people who have all told me that roughly £20 is required per night for accommodation. Is that true? Or are you saying they're offered it regardless? by blu_rhubarb (Thu 18th Nov 2021 9:05pm)

  • Why should we help you make money off Glaswegians who need a place to live, at an inflated rate to line your pockets? Why should we help you take away a property from someone who is looking to buy a property to you know, live in, and ensure your financial future. You ask why shouldn't we? Cause you sound like a dick. Out to make money off us. That's why. by blu_rhubarb (Wed 15th Dec 2021 11:22am)

  • You think I'm nagging? I just think it's ridiculous someone is asking for help on how to take advantage of our city before returning home to reap the rewards. There is no chance you will be renting your flat in Glasgow for £500pm. As you claim, the situation 'back home' is dire, if you could get £800pm, you would chance it. Go invest elsewhere. Or do what you want. Just don't expect people in a city where there's a housing crisis to help you . Finally, you know fuck all about how much I've spent on toilet paper. by blu_rhubarb (Wed 15th Dec 2021 2:29pm)
  • I missed this since you have edited since your initial reply. It effects me as someone who has been stuck renting a property, who is trying to buy, but there's a shortage of properties for sale because of pricks like you buying to let. So you're not only targeting students, or temporary professionals. Your plan affects anyone in Glasgow not currently living in property they own. by blu_rhubarb (Wed 15th Dec 2021 2:33pm)

  • It wasn't entirely serious. You and I both know there is only one real reason why someone would become a landlord in a situation like this, and that is profit. You can dress it up however you want but profit is the bottom line. To me, the fact OP mentions that he may have the opportunity to buy before it goes to market all but confirms he spots an opportunity to make money here. by blu_rhubarb (Mon 17th Jan 2022 4:51pm)

  • Exactly. Look at Saudi Arabia's attacks on Yemen, or China's complete genocide of Uyghur Muslims. No one seems to give a shit about these situations. The west have strong relations with China and Saudia Arabia and rely on them for business. So our governments look the other way. Russia have been pulled from several sports competitions, the eurovision and other sanctions. Israel has been bombing Palestinian civilians for years yet they still got to host the eurovision the other year. Why is that? It's horrible what's going on in Ukraine, but it's not exactly unfamiliar. by blu_rhubarb (Tue 1st Mar 2022 3:23pm)
  • The academy's always been down on Eglinton st. You're thinking of the ABC, which was just latterly owned by o2. And as mentioned, the roof caved in years ago in the art school fire. by blu_rhubarb (Sun 6th Mar 2022 12:22pm)
  • I don't see the point in having the Uber app on my phone any more. Theres always a surge on prices and if not, no one will take my fare. It searches for a driver for about 15 minutes before I cancel, try again and what do you know, the demand has made the prices surge. I suspect the drivers do this on purpose. Last week I was offered a taxi from bath street to partick for £25 quid. Of course I decided to walk it instead. by blu_rhubarb (Tue 8th Mar 2022 11:18am)
  • It's funny you say that, because I live fairly central and of I try to get a taxi that's a five minute journey, I get knocked back because they want longer trips for bigger fares. by blu_rhubarb (Tue 8th Mar 2022 11:21am)
  • I dunno man, I wanted a taxi to take me home from Tesco at half 7 midweek which is usually a fiver and they were asking for £18. There was no football on or any other mass event I could imagine causing a surge in price. by blu_rhubarb (Tue 8th Mar 2022 5:20pm)

  • With people able to work from home now, people have been moving to Glasgow in droves from London and other expensive parts of England now they can work from wherever they like. You see it in this sub a lot. There's only so many properties to rent in Glasgow and now these people are competing with the students and the competitive market that you experienced, which has only grown year on year since 2016. by blu_rhubarb (Wed 9th Mar 2022 8:27pm)
  • Where are you moving from? The real driving force is the shift in work patterns forced by the pandemic. So many people can work from home and are not required in office. Therefore, so many people have moved from down south to live in Glasgow, a city they see as cheaper than where they've moved from. by blu_rhubarb (Wed 9th Mar 2022 8:30pm)
  • I mean, I know I've seen your username prop up frequently in these sort of threads stating you've recently moved from England. Sure there are people doing it, plenty of them have posted on this sub and it's a niche corner of the internet in the UK/Glasgow. I'm not sure what you want me to provide as evidence. by blu_rhubarb (Wed 9th Mar 2022 10:30pm)
  • To be honest, it's been more than just a couple. I'm not basing it on 3-5 people mentioning here that they've moved from England. There have been plenty. Again, I'm not just basing it on Reddit comments, but real life interactions. Of course, me telling you I have a new neighbour who's moved from London, or spoken to people on nights out could all just be fabricated to suit my argument. But my experiences and those of people I know, are the basis of my claim. by blu_rhubarb (Thu 10th Mar 2022 1:46pm)

You could search the land register, but it looks old enough to be on the sasine register and if it is, the owners contact address is gonna be about 30 years old and quite possibly no longer current. by blu_rhubarb (Fri 11th Mar 2022 11:07pm)

I work on sauchiehall street and it's the kids with the amps blaring, often no instruments just singing shite bland songs into a mic for hours on end that are by far the worst offenders. • Pish analogy really. OPs looking to get in to the city centre, how is suggesting a bike any different th the multitude of replies suggesting he gets a bus? Aye, walking is another fair suggestion. If he's looking to save money, there's obviously going to be a downside to that. by blu_rhubarb (Tue 1st Nov 2022 2:31pm)

  • Ok. Next time you see someone being a dick on the train, you confront them about it. Doesn't matter if the conductor approaches them, attitudes here are so that people will most likely double down and refuse to cooperate. Conductors can't physically throw people off the train or they'll be open to assault charges. It's not worth the pay cheque. by blu_rhubarb (Wed 16th Nov 2022 11:35am)

  • Not true. In the 10 years I had the same landlord, they didn't increase the rent from £500 for a 2 bedroom. The flat was in a great location and during covid, they reduced the rent to help us out. I realise I was luckier than others and obviously, they were still making money off me. However there are decent landlords out there. by blu_rhubarb (Mon 3rd Apr 2023 4:16pm)

  • Why are you under the impression the bills and council tax are included within the rent charge? Has the landlord advised you of that or are you just assuming? If he has provided a breakdown of what your rent covers and this includes the above, plus £80 for factoring, then it may be legit. Plenty of landlords add in a £50+ sum to the rent charges to offset and recoup factoring charges, though it's not usually something the tenant is aware of. But please do not find yourself making payment of factoring bills or any additional charges charged by the factor as this is not your responsibility and lies solely with the landlord. by blu_rhubarb (Wed 19th Apr 2023 12:24pm)

  • That's simply not true. If the police have been out 13 times in 2 years, the HA will act on that, if complaints are raised by the other tenants. I used to work in the court until fairly recently and anti social evictions were common enough. • I'll get downvoted for this, but it's not the great venue it's hailed to be. Yes it's won some awards, a while back. It's decent, but far from the best in Glasgow. The layout of the place can be annoying, so make sure you're over stage left before the gig starts.
