  • That’s a myth...the three and out rule was made into a movie which seems to have made people think it’s a real thing. Discussed by real train drivers here https://www.railforums.co.uk/threads/three-and-out.17436/ by cobwebscavern (Sat 5th Jan 2019 12:54am)
  • As a Thistle supporter when I would give this as my answer to this question people would very often actually say “aye, but are you a Celtic Thistle supporter or a rangers Thistle supporter?” I know this is a cliche now but I heard it often enough when I was younger. by cobwebscavern (Tue 15th Jan 2019 11:49am)
  • No sure if you’re meaning Urbex, which short for urban exploration (basically being a bit of a nosey cunt round old abandoned buildings etc.) or the presenter which is someone having their first bash at hosting a YouTube video. by cobwebscavern (Mon 28th Jan 2019 9:17am)
  • https://www.clintonsretail.com/cards/blank has (if it’s the ones I think you’re meaning) a few of them like: https://www.clintonsretail.com/cards/blank/funny-cooking-lady-birthday-card https://www.clintonsretail.com/cards/blank/all-shoes-half-price-funny-birthday-card And https://www.clintonsretail.com/cards/blank/emotional-rescue-funny-ebay-card They probably also do them in store as well then. Also moonpig and funky pigeon both do these. by cobwebscavern (Mon 28th Jan 2019 9:28am)
  • Lol..I get your point but I was meaning that the location might be of interest more than the video itself. by cobwebscavern (Mon 28th Jan 2019 9:59am)
  • I think it was the double whammy...ok to say the subject of the video was cack or that the presenter wasn’t great but having a pop at both maybe? I only posted it for anyone who might be interested and a little bit of Glaswegian history....hopefully a few people got something out of it. by cobwebscavern (Mon 28th Jan 2019 3:24pm)
  • People who have a genuine passion for any subject, no matter how mundane, can make the thing seem interesting if they can allow that enthusiasm to shine through. She’s a bit cringed in parts but I’m sure it’s better than a ton of people for a first bash at presenting a video. by cobwebscavern (Mon 28th Jan 2019 3:20pm)
  • Is your regular home food fucking winalot? Cause this is literally the worst Italian restaurant imaginable....you would have to have a tongue like 200 grit sandpaper to think the stiff from there was anything above barely edible. by cobwebscavern (Sun 3rd Mar 2019 3:33pm)
  • Better to actually ask for remuneration if you want more pay. If however you want him to count stuff again and again then go ahead. by cobwebscavern (Fri 8th Mar 2019 8:34pm)
  • Remuneration = pay, stipend, wages Renumeration = recounting by cobwebscavern (Fri 8th Mar 2019 11:02pm)
  • ..a needle pulling thread by cobwebscavern (Fri 8th Mar 2019 11:06pm)
  • Fuck...explaining shit to drunk people. You said you were going to ask your boss for renumeration....what you meant was remuneration. Whatever...if your daft enough to do extra work without getting prior agreement to be paid for it then I’m sure the fact you’re using the wrong word in this context won’t matter to you. by cobwebscavern (Fri 8th Mar 2019 11:12pm)
  • Naw it’s no spelling...you thought that was the word and now your trying to make out it’s a typo. Loads of people get that one wrong...I used to till I fucked up it’s usage one time and learned....just be a big boy and admit you didn’t know. by cobwebscavern (Fri 8th Mar 2019 11:17pm)
  • This particular bit of road isn’t the best agreed but the driving is shocking as well...the amount of people that come to a near standstill at the on ramp from the expressway sitting indicating right rather than getting up to speed and blending in is awful....this then compounds with people doing the same to get into the left hand lane for GWR/Maryhill Road exit. It was designed in the 60s and built early 70s...they couldn’t have envisioned the type and volume of traffic that the Kingston bridge and surrounding roads would be getting today. by cobwebscavern (Mon 25th Mar 2019 2:26pm)
  • Cheers for the update by cobwebscavern (Mon 25th Mar 2019 2:32pm)
  • if no one else actually needs or want's this could i get it? no plans for tomorrow so let's go for a jaunt. Again if anyone has aneed for it let them have it first. by cobwebscavern (Mon 25th Mar 2019 8:39pm)
  • The fucker has lived down south for so long he spouts shite like this and other Faragesque nonsense with the best(worst) of them......used to listen to his morning show on talksport to catch up with sport news and remember McCoist pull him up one time when he referred to an england game by saying he hoped we would do this and we would do that.....a generic fat mouthy cunt with no idea of what life is like in Glasgow as he hasn't lived here for most of his life. by cobwebscavern (Mon 25th Mar 2019 8:37pm)
  • That green shite is what real food eats....I want to hear the fuckers moo still echoing in the kitchen when I'm eating my food. by cobwebscavern (Mon 25th Mar 2019 8:43pm)
  • No...fuck those groups of morons....football (most of the rest of the supporters of every other club) is fine. by cobwebscavern (Sun 31st Mar 2019 8:42pm)
  • Nooooo, real Thistle supporters would not wear either of those rags, let alone a shitey mash up of them both. by cobwebscavern (Sun 31st Mar 2019 8:40pm)

  • That’s like asking if racism (or any -ism you choose) is only present amongst those who commit acts that show their racism....not all racists go around beating up folk of different ethnicity or wearing covert emblems. So no....of course not. by cobwebscavern (Mon 1st Apr 2019 3:43am)
  • The root of the problem is religion and the associated baggage....don’t call it tribalism. Euphemisms don’t help. by cobwebscavern (Mon 1st Apr 2019 3:54am)
  • Polmadie - Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday Blochairn - Sunday Milngavie - Sunday Govan - Saturday That’s your runners and riders in order of size and numbers of punters....Polmadie and Blochairn have their own website info...Milngavie is at the Tesco car park from 7am onwards....don’t bother with Govan...it’s shite. by cobwebscavern (Mon 1st Apr 2019 5:29pm)
  • Chances are they will have standard m42 mounts...guessing they are zenits or industars? They copied the praktica from east Germany...there’s one or two that are better than average but most are going to be ornaments these days. Stick a photo or two up and I’ll let you know what you’ve got but it’s 99% certain they are going to be 35mm film....you can still get these developed at a few places but the seals might not be lightproof anymore. by cobwebscavern (Mon 1st Apr 2019 5:26pm)
  • Ha! An old Zorki...not seen one of those for ages....the 50mm F2 lens on that might be nice but depends how it’s been looked after....the other two are pretty much going to be just decorative items...the Brownies were super popular and like singer sewing machines every family had one. The first two will use 35mm film which you can still get easily enough....if you haven’t used a manual film camera before though you are in for a steep learning curve. by cobwebscavern (Mon 1st Apr 2019 5:55pm)
  • There’s plenty of online sites that can give you a starter but you’re going to have to learn the basics of aperture, film speeds and shutter speeds/exposure and how these work together to make a correctly exposed shot. If you do get some film then get a fast film (higher iso number the better) as this will help you get faster shutter speeds for the same aperture.....which will help with camera shake....no inbuilt stabilisation here. by cobwebscavern (Mon 1st Apr 2019 6:03pm)

  • The Mack is a building of global importance, not just important to Glasgow or Scotland. Had CRM been European or American he would have been much more widely known that he is and it’s important that the best example of his architectural style is returned. Also the majority of the money to renovate the building has come from private sources. by cobwebscavern (Mon 12th Aug 2019 3:29pm)
  • Welcome to what DC Thomson calls journalism. Some more leg work and interviews might actually have made this a really worthwhile read and could have even spurred change but the “fuck it, that’s good enough” that nearly all Scottish newsprint output has become is exemplified in this article. by cobwebscavern (Mon 12th Aug 2019 3:25pm)
  • Because if yanks know how to do one thing well above all else it’s blowing their own trumpet.....they promote and push their products and people like no other country....of all the big ”global” brands how many are American and how many from other countries? They thrive on self-aggrandisement and aren’t at all shy about promoting themselves or their stuff. by cobwebscavern (Mon 12th Aug 2019 7:13pm)
  • In a thread after the first fire I said exactly the same thing and was shot down in flames here for suggesting such a thing....I still maintain the building is too important and significant to have the same usage. Reopen as a museum to all things CRM and let the art school move onto a modern building purpose built for modern art installations etc.. by cobwebscavern (Mon 12th Aug 2019 7:17pm)
  • Exactly...they believe that whole “USA No1” stuff (reader can decide for themselves on its merits) because they all cheerlead for their country as soon as they can talk...city, state and country are all promoted and cause they know all about it they think that everyone else should as well...and yeah, I met a Chicago guy once who I tried to strike up a conversation with...all I knew were the bears gridiron team....that wasn’t enough for him and, like your Bostonian he wasn’t amused that was the limit of my knowledge. by cobwebscavern (Tue 13th Aug 2019 9:34am)

  • Am friends with the owner and the guy(s) who work there...it’s a unique place and one of the last true junk/antique shops in Glasgow. You are as likely to find rare eighties computer game stuff as you are 1920s photographs or 1950s furnishings....also has a couple of cats that come and visit the shop to spend the day sleeping amongst the stuff for sale...they don’t belong to anyone in the shop they just like coming in. by cobwebscavern (Tue 20th Aug 2019 3:36pm)

  • They disappeared for a couple of reasons...research has shown that having people stand to one side doesn’t actually speed things up and may make it slower overall....but more importantly having a consistent loading to one side of the escalators was making them break down much more often than they were expected to, by removing the standing to one side it solved this issue. by cobwebscavern (Tue 20th Aug 2019 10:57pm)
  • It’s not a secret as such. Years and years of being in the trade has meant he has loads of contacts who bring stuff in to sell and he also buys direct from sellers looking to clear out deceased relatives houses etc. by cobwebscavern (Wed 21st Aug 2019 11:41am)

  • As other commenter noted Rai-Con is more anime focused and is in the centre of town at the Royal Concert Hall. MCM is in the SEC and has a much wider uptake of inspiration for cosplay. I’ll be at both but of the two if you can only afford one (or any other reason limits your choice) then choose between lots of anime/artists etc. Go for Raicon....wide breadth of sci-fi, action heroes etc and loads of different vendors the MCM. by cobwebscavern (Thu 29th Aug 2019 1:07pm)
  • Blochairn used to be the boot sale of choice but ever since the fire there it has dropped dramatically and now Polmadie and it are roughly the same size...little to choose between the two....I’ve been at both 4/5 times in past couple of months. Milngavie is ok but small...Govan is shite, it’s a traders market that allows car boot sellers and you can go there being with literally only one or two cars selling. by cobwebscavern (Thu 29th Aug 2019 1:10pm)
  • Strung Out guitars on King St. is good but small so might not have any PRS in stock...worth checking out if your going to GG though. by cobwebscavern (Sun 1st Sep 2019 12:57pm)
  • Being of a mind to commit suicide (or to attempt to do so) clearly shows the person isn’t thinking normally or rationally...trying to place blame for this onto them is like trying to nail jelly to the wall. by cobwebscavern (Thu 12th Sep 2019 10:29pm)
  • There’s a world of difference between losing the rag over something and kicking the shit out of someone in bad temper and being so depressed (or other mental state) that you consider ending your own life. It might be that something happened on the way to the shop or even in there to tip the guy over the edge and the fact of his surroundings and bystanders were of little significance to him. As someone who has struggled with my own mental health problems including being detained for my own safety I can say that no one does something like this thinking about the other people nearby or how they might be impacted....that’s sad but true, you aren’t seeing further than ending the pain that you are in and can’t see a way out of....it seems to make sense at the time. by cobwebscavern (Thu 12th Sep 2019 10:45pm)

  • ...and anyone who comes here and wants to be a Scot and then identifies themselves as such are Scottish...the previous commenter seems to think that somehow not being white precludes you being Scottish. Also while it might not have been your intention an animal based comparison isn’t maybe the best idea. by cobwebscavern (Tue 24th Sep 2019 4:02pm)
  • You obviously have trouble reading and/or comprehending my point so I’ll spell it out again, slowly, for you. If someone comes from another country, and wants to become Scottish, wants to be seen as Scottish and recognised as such then, fuck it they are as Scottish as a dreech day in Dundee. If someone wants to remain xxxlander with another passport or dual citizenship even then fair fucks to them but the original point was that a mouth breather didn’t think that people who look differently to him could be Scottish...that’s weapon grade pish...there’s plenty of families of Indian, Pakistani and loads of other countries of origin who are clearly Scottish. by cobwebscavern (Tue 24th Sep 2019 7:12pm)
  • No Country For Old Men was filmed in between 23 May 2006 - 16 August 2006 and released in worldwide in December 2007 into January 2008. On June 30, 1993, Miramax was purchased for $60 million by The Walt Disney Company, which paved a way for Disney to enter the independent film market. Harvey and Bob Weinstein continued to operate Miramax until they left the company on September 30, 2005. So he wouldn’t have had anything to do with the production of this film in any shape or form. If you’re going to pretend to be an investigative journalist then do some very basic investigation ya utter roaster. by cobwebscavern (Tue 8th Oct 2019 11:11am)

  • ...I get that you’re right and if you were really doing something altruistic then you do it for the sake of the act and not to post on the Internet but my question is what the fuck difference does it make on here...I mean if some gets a million upvotes does it actually make a change to your account at all? Even if something hits the front page of Reddit does it have any real world difference to you? by cobwebscavern (Sat 26th Oct 2019 7:15pm)

  • His name is Alistair McConnachie and amongst other things he's a holocaust denier. When someone gets kicked out of UKIP for remakrs that are too extreme for them, then you know you are dealing with a weapons grade cunt. You can read his barely coherent thoughts on that and other things in this interview: [https://www.heraldscotland.com/news/16399120.meet-the-pro-union-activist-who-has-worked-for-the-orange-order-and-denies-jews-were-murdered-in-gas-chambers/](https://www.heraldscotland.com/news/16399120.meet-the-pro-union-activist-who-has-worked-for-the-orange-order-and-denies-jews-were-murdered-in-gas-chambers/) I quite like that he manages to contradict himself on his main point within the first paragragh. by cobwebscavern (Sat 2nd Nov 2019 9:26pm)
  • You’ve heard wrong...there’s loads of English folk at Indy marches...plus Orange walks are born out of hatred and the desire to oppress another section of society.....Pride is the opposite as it wants to allow everyone to be free to live their lives without oppression. by cobwebscavern (Wed 18th Dec 2019 11:50pm)
  • Depending on how fussy you are over the type of art you want up on your walls then I’d suggest going to one of the local auctions once they re-open. There are 3 in the Glasgow area and many more within an hours drive if you have a car. I’ve bought a box of original art for a fiver before....and even if you don’t always get stuff you like, you are getting decent quality frames (usually). If you want to go this route and need any help fire me a PM if you want. by cobwebscavern (Thu 26th Dec 2019 9:45pm)
  • Each auction has its good and bad points....if you’re in the West End or north then Great Western Auctions in Whiteinch is probably the easiest to get to...the other two are in the South Side (McTears and Mulberry). McTears auctions are on every Friday, GWA every other Saturday and Mulberry you’d need to check their website. To give you an idea I’ve picked a few lots from the last sale that were job lots of paintings that went for cheap....quality is, variable but at least it will give you an idea of what things are like. 20 Quid - https://www.greatwesternauctions.com/catalogues/gs141219/lot0617.html 40 - https://www.greatwesternauctions.com/catalogues/gs141219/lot0618.html 20 - https://www.greatwesternauctions.com/catalogues/gs141219/lot0619.html There were various other lots that went for between 10-40 with roughly 8-20 pictures.....some not bad some awful....but again, think of it like buying frames that you can stick something you like into and you’re well ahead....you can even give some as gifts if you hate anyone that much. by cobwebscavern (Fri 27th Dec 2019 12:28am)

  • For mains voltage repairs you’re 100% right but given this is a low voltage application simply twisting the wires together and covering with tape will do the job...not a permanent solution by any means but will get you out of a fix if you are stuck. by cobwebscavern (Thu 6th Feb 2020 1:49pm)

Comes in little tape like strips that you wrap around the wire and heat with a lighter and Robert is yer maws sisters husband. Having said that it's shite... So you're right... That an over-worked, under-paid member of the NHS work force has to point out this shite is a sad indictment of the way people view hospitals. Having had a friend recently stay (and sadly pass away) in hospital, I’d like to thank every single NHS worker for all they do...from the crap anti-social hours, the not enough pay for the job that you do and everything in-between a sincere and heartfelt thank you. by cobwebscavern (Tue 10th Mar 2020 9:57pm)

  • Can anyone justify this to me? It’s the very basis of capitalism...supply and demand. If you have a product and lots of people want it then any economist will tell you that a true exponent of capitalism will charge as much for it as they think that they possibly can get away with. Which is why capitalism is screwing over the ecology of the world and makes for a miserable existence for the majority of people...it cares for nothing but profit...as a species, sooner or later, we will have to stop measuring things like GDP and economic growth and putting these before all else. by cobwebscavern (Thu 19th Mar 2020 1:49pm)
  • It doesn’t....in classic economic theory models price gouging isn’t a thing. I’ll copy the following from wiki as it explains the academic take on this better than I can: “In a survey of leading economists, only 8 percent agreed with a proposal to prohibit "unconscionably excessive" price gouging during natural disasters in Connecticut. 51 percent disagreed with the proposal, 15 percent were uncertain and 8 percent had no opinion. The economists opposing the proposal argued that such legislation would lead to a misallocation of resources and lead to lower supply and greater scarcity of the resources”. More is available at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Price_gouging but basically economists pretty much agree and don’t recognise this as a thing as far as models go....In real life, probably just to prevent civil unrest etc. when people can’t afford basics that have been hiked then, governments apply a moral code and introduce some legislation but it is not often enforced. by cobwebscavern (Thu 19th Mar 2020 2:15pm)
  • If you’re totally stuck I’ve started teaching myself to pick locks as a hobby. If you PM me details of the lock and/or key I might be able to help. by cobwebscavern (Tue 28th Apr 2020 2:17pm)
  • I’ve dealt with the disposal of a couple of estates in my family and can give some personal experience (which has been extensive due to one of the intestate cases making case history in Scotland - Can give details if you want via PM). The lawyers fees quoted don’t seem outrageous compared to last time I had to use them...somewhat higher but in line with inflation increases. Law of succession in Scotland is simple compared to other countries - http://www.parliament.scot/ResearchBriefingsAndFactsheets/S4/SB_15-45_Inheritance_law_in_Scotland.pdf - gives most of the pertinent points and all you should need to know. I’d recommend that you make a copy of the will for everyone in the family and record them receiving the same...this should prevent anyone saying that they were unaware of the provisions laid out in the will and trying to make a spurious claim later on. You might think everyone is ok with what has happened but people can be....fuck, how to put this...I dunno how much your Dad left but sometimes the thought of some free money can bring out the worst in folks...I hope it’s not the case but it does no harm to cover yourself as much as you possibly can. If you are the sole beneficiary and the will is uncontested then there’s really no reason to involve anyone else. It sounds like from what you have said that your father has made what’s called a “universal legacy” to you (I leave everything to my son WuTang_Jahn) so unless he had a wife or civil partner, or other children who have legal rights and prior rights which override parts of a will, you are free to go ahead and dispose of his wishes as laid out. Also worth knowing is given the wording you have used it’s likely to NOT be a small estate (under 36,000) so be aware of that as far as terminology goes. Good luck. by cobwebscavern (Thu 30th Apr 2020 12:27pm)
  • The area used to be as rough as a badgers arse but when all the old tenements were demolished and the new developments came in on both sides of the road it changed the demographic of those living there...there will still be some bams up at the flats by the golf course and further up Bilsland Drive but let’s face it, you get that in every single area...some of the best bits of Bearsden are five minutes walk from shitehole areas in the Drum. It’s not the best but by no means the worst....handy for transport into town of you need it and shops not far away. Had one friend who lived there and the flats themselves were pretty standard for the type...nothing out of the ordinary either way really. by cobwebscavern (Tue 26th May 2020 10:57am)
  • Good comic strip - it’s a shame that the Panopticon shop on High Streeet has shut down now....they only sell stuff in the theatre itself when it’s open by cobwebscavern (Tue 26th May 2020 11:03am)
  • Aye...was a cracking wee shop with every nook and cranny filled with stuff. I got a few bargains there over the years and some odd stuff as well but I think that the rates and rent just got too much too keep it viable. It’s a shame that the Panopticon itself isn’t better known in Glasgow. by cobwebscavern (Tue 26th May 2020 11:08am)
