Used to live on park terrace lane. I worked in retail for 12 years as a store manager for various clothes shops. Still get PTSD around Christmas as it reminds me of working 60 hour weeks listening to godawful music on repeat being told I was a cunt by old ladies because something was sold out. I changed my career at 30 from retail manager to barber. In between I took 6 months off working in bars and restaurants, going from being the boss for 12 years to being a part timer was honestly one of the best things I ever did...fuck the salary it only brought me misery (although I often wonder what exactly I used to spend £2k a month on). I'm a barber in the west end. This restyle fee sounds weird as it'll only be 3 months growth? All it'll need is a high guard on a clipper to get the bulk off and get it back to a desirable length which will take all of 5 minutes. I'm in west end just next to KG park and it seems some bins have finally been emptied whilst loads of others have not. The bottle bin lat the east end entrance was overflowing and rather than emptying the entire bin they just took the bottles that were on the floor around the bin. I'm a runner and live in west end and it can be a nightmare sometimes with people everywhere, one thing I'll never do is run past somebody with hardly any space between us. There is nothing worse then you're walking and a runner/cyclist comes behind you at full speed without letting you know. I tend to put my keys in my pocket so people can hear me, if that doesn't work I'll scuff my shoes against the floor so people are aware im behind them. I'm a self employed barber in west end. Some clients tip some dont, I really dont expect it but its always nice to get something extra. I used Japanese Binchotan charcoal cause im a hipster wank but it stays lit for fucking ages. Bit difficult to get going as you need to keep it under constant flame for about 30/40 mins but well worth it. I used to work in high street tailoring, I may be wrong but it looks like Forbes is just made to measure which means they use an outside company to make the suits. All they do is fill in the measurements they take from you and send it off via a template form. They always seem to measure the suits far too small for their clients too. I'm a barber and there is no such thing as a 'simple trim' like most people think. The cut needs to have a shape and be even and blended in, this alone takes time to do properly. It's not just a simple case of cutting a tiny bit off. You mentioned your hair is curly which again requires time to get correct. Then you have the styling from wet which for a standard ladies cut takes a good amount of time to do well. We don't charge for amount taken off. I am in no way disagreeing with you, just to play devils advocate for a second. If you are fit and healthy are you not better catching it now especially when the symptoms of omicron are so mild? I went from retail to barbering. I’m now self employed and fully booked most days, money is great and stress is low. Highly recommend taking it up, although it’s definitely not easy and the first few years are tough trying to build a clientele. I started off the first few years working employed at a barber shop earning a wage then was able to break away once I got my clients in. I moved up here from London 9 years ago where I cycled daily, within a year of living in Glasgow I gave up cycling after very nearly being killed quite a number of times. The city has got better since with added cycle lanes throughout city but generally speaking i avoid main roads, it’s just not worth it.
