  • This is the reason I don't use public transport. My car is 4.2 litre petrol engined. It averages 18 mpg to and from work. It's cheaper for me to use my car than to take a bus. Tax and insurance are somewhat irrelevant, the car is taxed and insured whether it's used or not. by doug2212 (Wed 12th May 2021 12:22am)
  • A general clean up of the city would be great. The ammount of rubbish and graffiti is an eyesore. A German online friend wanted to see the area where I lived, they laughed at the state of the West End when we did a Google Street view tour. by doug2212 (Wed 12th May 2021 12:29am)
  • Good info, thanks. But It doesn't help me. I'm overdue the 2nd vaccination but there's no appointment booked for me to rearrange. Hugely frustrating! by doug2212 (Wed 26th May 2021 11:30pm)

  • Sounded like fireworks, far too many for gunshots. A lack of sirens suggests fireworks also. No idea why anyone would set off fireworks during daylight though by doug2212 (Wed 16th Jun 2021 10:52pm)
  • I have a 2 bedroom flat in the west end and gas + electricity has been £53 a month until recently. Redundancy has seen me at home more and that's reflected in the recent rise to £71 per month. This is a very old contract and you may get a cheaper one. I live alone and only have a light on in the one room I'm in. by doug2212 (Tue 29th Jun 2021 1:43pm)
  • The MyGlasgow app is a placebo - it does nothing. I find the best way to get things done is email your local councilor every time there's a missed collection. It might be worth copying in your factors, if you have one. by doug2212 (Mon 19th Jul 2021 2:07pm)

  • Might be worth trying [http://www.paulamar.co.uk/](http://www.paulamar.co.uk/) they make transport cases for anything. Bishopbgiggs based, bit of an odd place, can't comment on prices for this, but they know their stuff. by doug2212 (Mon 16th Aug 2021 11:40am)
  • What's your budget for paintwork, do you want a top job or just a touch-up? Alloys - I've used [Hillington branch](https://www.thewheelspecialist.co.uk/) recently, they did a great job for around £60 per wheel from memory. by doug2212 (Thu 26th Aug 2021 10:57am)

  • OP asks for folks thoughts. Doesn't like folks thoughts. Invites folk to write their opinion on a piece of paper only to throw it in the bin. Think of the environment FFS ;) by doug2212 (Fri 27th Aug 2021 11:20am)
  • I had to wait 45 minutes for one recently. City cabs used to be here within a few minutes. Most of their drivers are Asian. I think it's just general demand now restrictions are lifted. by doug2212 (Wed 1st Sep 2021 1:22pm)

  • It's 2021 and people are still bitching and whining about which religion can do this or that. Why do we still have denominational schools? If we're serious about ending bigotry, shouldn't we start by having one schooling system providing the same education to all, regardless of faith? Churches, Mosques, Temples and Synagogues etc are there to provide religious education. Schools should be purely educational and inclusive of all. by doug2212 (Fri 17th Sep 2021 3:26am)
  • I hope you haven't taken my earlier post as an assault on Catholic schools, that was certainly not my intention, even if poorly worded. by doug2212 (Fri 17th Sep 2021 10:20pm)
  • 4/5 nuts will be good for a while, I wouldn't worry about exceeding 30mph, the only concern I would have is high speed cornering by doug2212 (Thu 23rd Sep 2021 10:21pm)
  • This will be the same council that sent out a letter last week stating that GCC no longer pick up bulk, unless we choose to pay £35 per uplift. This is after they changed bin collections from 7 to 8 days. And they wonder why folk fly-tip. Genius. by doug2212 (Wed 29th Sep 2021 10:20pm)
  • Bus ticket prices are stupid. My old work was 5 miles from home but it was cheaper (and quicker) to use a 4.2 litre V8 gas guzzler than take the bus. There was no incentive for me to consider public transport. by doug2212 (Sun 3rd Oct 2021 11:08pm)
  • I have family living in Aberfoyle, one of them commutes to the Southern, the other used to commute to Clydebank daily. It's possible, but a round trip of 55+ miles daily, probably 45 - 60 minutes each way. Stockiemure road is faster than the Strathblane route. Good luck during the winter months! by doug2212 (Tue 5th Oct 2021 11:00pm)
  • I drove along the expressway earlier today and was a bit dismayed to see the number or lorries bring in all those extra "tents" They must be virtually doubling the floor-space of the SECC. No idea what that's doing for the environment, but heyho by doug2212 (Fri 8th Oct 2021 8:32pm)

  • At a time when they're trying to get us to be more environmentally friendly, you'd like to think it would be easier and cheaper to use public transport than owning a car. by doug2212 (Wed 17th Nov 2021 10:26pm)
  • Before I moved into my flat (above a chippy and next to a convenience store selling booze) I would have. Knowing now that the wee bams will kick the close door in to eat their chips, only to leave their mess behind and pishing all over the entrance to my home - nope, they can do that at someone else' home by doug2212 (Sun 21st Nov 2021 1:43am)

  • 3rd missed bin lift yesterday, 15th December last collection of rubbish and recycling. Ended up driving to the dump to drop off household waste today. GCC have added a sheet on their website showing updates on which bins have been missed and their due date, but it isn't showing the bins I reported last week. by doug2212 (Sun 9th Jan 2022 10:24pm)
  • Contact your factor again stating that your home contents insurance is dependent on the close being secured, the insurance company will hold the factors liable in the event of a claim. This worked for me, no idea if there's any legal basis in it by doug2212 (Mon 10th Jan 2022 8:53pm)
  • Kessinton Hall in Bearsden was formerly a substation for the tram line that ran to Milngavie. It's a big old building, but nothing that would make you think of trams. A few years ago, I was driving down Hyndland Rd, trying to avoid the many potholes, when I noticed the old tram lines visible under the tarmac. I was surprised that they hadn't been lifted, but also that there was only 3 or 4 inches of road covering them. I'd like to think they'll never be seen again, but I suspect the potholes will still be there. by doug2212 (Tue 11th Jan 2022 10:22pm)

  • I've been emailing several councilors and the housing association about missed collections going back several years. Find out who your local councilors are, hopefully they'll represent different political groups and email them all. The ones who deal with this problem are the ones who want your vote in the upcoming elections. Our bins have been emptied recently, but another missed collection will see the same councilors getting the same demand. by doug2212 (Sun 23rd Jan 2022 9:35pm)

  • 2 people died on the trains/rail tracks? by doug2212 (Mon 31st Jan 2022 5:16am)
  • Lorry driver killed on the M74 when the wind blew his lorry over. That's 3 dead, and I'm sorry for those bereaved, but not one of them died because of trains. I'm gonna be a dick and argue that if they'd been in/on a train, at least 2 of them might still be alive. But the trains are cancelled so now we gotta risk trees and trucks falling on us. Cos trains weighing hundreds of tons are scared of hitting trampolines. by doug2212 (Mon 31st Jan 2022 5:31am)
  • Yes, a train derailment would be catastrophic. I don't how many have died because of this recently, but it appears to be more deadly to use roads and footpaths instead. No roads were obstructed apparently, but let's not allow statistics to get in the way of beliefs haha by doug2212 (Mon 31st Jan 2022 5:57am)

  • We're more at risk living near the shipbuilders on the Clyde than Faslane. Even the biggest nuke ever detonated would barely affect only half of Glasgow, if dropped on Faslane. Prevailing winds come from the south, any fallout is going north. Nuclear exchanges aren't going to happen. by doug2212 (Sun 27th Feb 2022 10:13pm)
  • How many guns have killed people in the UK since Dunblane? We banned guns but people still have guns. by doug2212 (Tue 1st Mar 2022 9:13pm)
  • The ship building yards on the Clyde are building vessels for the Royal Navy. There's your target of concern right in the city, not 20+ miles away. Dropping a nuke on Faslane would have minimal effect on Glasgow, if any. by doug2212 (Tue 1st Mar 2022 9:15pm)
  • Mate, give up now. Air blast or ground blast? If air blast, what altitude? Which type of warhead is it and how is it delivered? Fission bomb, fusion bomb or fission/fusion bomb? And there won't be any plutonium dropping from the sky from any of them. But if you're excited about fallout, you can always look at a map and see where the prevailing winds would take any non-plutonium fallout, and it won't be towards Glasgow. by doug2212 (Tue 1st Mar 2022 10:24pm)

  • It shouldn't be that sneaky if you drive that road frequently. The bus stop was wiped out on Hogmanay 2020 and I've seen several cars rolled on the bend just after the bus stop. Plod was out with a speed gun the other day, it's a fast bit of road. by doug2212 (Fri 27th May 2022 11:54pm)
  • While remembering that the op didn't ask for validity of how hidden it was, I agree that since the trees now have leaves on them, it is pretty well hidden. So much so that I suspect it won't be catching anyone speeding, particularly in the left hand lane. by doug2212 (Sun 29th May 2022 1:10am)
  • I was there about 2 months ago. Easy access to the grounds (locals walk their dogs there) and easy enough access to the main building if you're slim enough to squeeze through the gaps in the fencing. I managed it despite sporting a middle-aged gut by doug2212 (Tue 31st May 2022 10:54pm)
  • I used [this group](https://www.thewheelspecialist.co.uk/) Hillington branch a year or two back. £300 for 5 alloys - not diamond cut. They did a great job, no problems with the wheels since then. by doug2212 (Tue 7th Jun 2022 8:57pm)

  • The cost of it is irrelevant. It's bought and paid for and takes me places buses don't go. And it's still cheaper to run than to take a bus :) by doug2212 (Mon 27th Jun 2022 9:26pm)
  • Now you're just being silly. The car was bought and paid for 10 years ago. The car is taxed and insured irrelevant of whether I use the car or take the expensive bus - the bus you want to make even more expensive. I don't remember the last time I paid to park anywhere. It's still cheaper to run a gas guzzler than take a bus. You're making my point for me here. by doug2212 (Mon 27th Jun 2022 9:34pm)
  • Read my reply again. The car is taxed, mot'd, insured and it's still cheaper for me to take my car than a bus. And you want to make buses more expensive? I don't know where you live and work, but if you have to pay to park there I can strongly recommend moving. It makes it cheaper to take the car than a bus :) by doug2212 (Mon 27th Jun 2022 9:41pm)
  • Sometimes it's cheaper to take the train. Then I take the train because it's cheaper. But it's also cheaper for me to take my car than a bus, which is why I think making the buses more expensive will only drive more people to use their cars. Glad you have no say in public transport pricing. by doug2212 (Mon 27th Jun 2022 9:46pm)

  • My car is taxed and insured whether I use it or not. Tell us how £2.65 for 1.6 miles is cheaper than £0.68 for the same distance without making yourself look like a imbecile. Ya imbecile fucking mong by doug2212 (Sat 23rd Jul 2022 12:47am)
  • Lol, I'm teaching you. But you're either beyond teaching or your fingers are buried deep in your ears so you don't hear what you don't want to hear. Tyre wear and cost for 1.6 miles is [£0.047 ](https://£0.047.car) Car is still way cheaper than a bus by doug2212 (Sat 23rd Jul 2022 12:57am)
  • Tyre cost was worst case scenario and assumed front and rears wear at the same rate, which they don't.I can figure out oil changes and servicing costs but the cost per mile will still be far less for an 18 year old gas guzzler. Now, if we were to use a small city car with better economy and lower service costs, your argument is even less valid than you think it is. • Everyone believes their own importance to the function of society. Growth of the economy is needed, but it has to be done in a controlled way. Why should a select few demand some level of pay rise that the majority will not get? by doug2212 (Wed 31st Aug 2022 12:40am)
  • The alternative? Spend no more than you earn. If folk can't do that, there are a world of qualifications that exist to help people earn more. If needs are that bad, find a way to make a hobby pay. Or, worst case - take a second job. What's your alternative? Give everyone everything they demand? by doug2212 (Wed 31st Aug 2022 1:32am)
  • My energy bill is nowhere close to 5 grand a year, but if it was, I'd look for a job, emptying bins or otherwise. I don't have any bits of paper but I know that when I started working I needed more cash than I was earning so I worked 2 jobs for a while. Then I worked lots of overtime. Then I retired aged 55 to a flat with no mortgage and an energy bill nowhere near 5 grand. Not once in 33 years of working did I go on strike but I did keep 20+ people in a boring job but they were decently paid. They earn less than the average bin man in Glasgow, yet can afford to raise their kids, buy new cars and go on several holidays each year. by doug2212 (Wed 31st Aug 2022 4:12pm)

  • If you're still looking for employment law solicitors, I can recommend Laura Salmond of BTO Solicitors 225 5315. Expect an hourly rate of around £300 by doug2212 (Fri 11th Nov 2022 8:46pm)
  • Living below someone with a wooden floors and a 2 year old, I feel for your neighbours, sorry. The best you can do (other than fit carpets) is to find a super padded pair of slippers that your child will wear by doug2212 (Sun 20th Nov 2022 10:09pm)
  • Email your local MP about concerns you have about the area around your home. Find out who your local Councillors are and copy them in to emails, also copy in local community police teams. Make a noise about this, someone will do something eventually. by doug2212 (Thu 24th Nov 2022 10:08pm)
  • Heat pumps can heat a house quite effectively, but only if the house is adequately insulated. They won't keep a draughty old house warm at all. by doug2212 (Tue 6th Dec 2022 9:20pm)
  • Glasgow used to have Mayfest in the mid/late 80's. All pubs were automatically allowed to open until 2AM. The year we were the European city of culture saw an additional 2 hours added to the license; 4AM closing was fun for the month. I may have some dates and times wrong - it was a long time ago and the pubs were open until 4 :) by doug2212 (Sat 31st Dec 2022 4:24am)
  • We've worn masks and isolated ourselves from everyday bugs and viruses for the last 3 years. It shouldn't come as a great surprise that we're all now suffering with coughs and colds. OP, if you really want to see a doc, then your response is that you *have* coughed up blood. But trust your GP - they really don't want to see you suffer. by doug2212 (Fri 13th Jan 2023 11:51pm)
  • I suspect most of the drivers in their 2 tonne cars look at the 19 tonne buses and 44 tonne lorries and think their 2 tonnes isn't the problem by doug2212 (Sat 21st Jan 2023 6:15pm)
  • Freezing and thawing starts the process, vehicles complete it. Next time your out, look at every bus stop - there will be a huge pothole by the kerb just before the stop. 19 tonne buses breaking to a halt in the same place destroys the road by doug2212 (Sat 21st Jan 2023 8:38pm)
  • Eh? Is this drunk maths? A 2 tonne car is a 2 tonne car. A 19 tonne bus is more than 9 times the weight of a 2 tonne car. Please tell me you don't believe lots of 2 tonne cars do more damage than lots of 19 tonne buses by doug2212 (Sun 22nd Jan 2023 12:14am)
  • That's really not how physics works. Sorry by doug2212 (Sun 22nd Jan 2023 12:37am)
  • Don't take my word for it. The information is out there. by doug2212 (Sun 22nd Jan 2023 12:47am)
  • Just as I thought by doug2212 (Sun 22nd Jan 2023 12:54am)
  • But you're not going to look for the information either, are you? by doug2212 (Sun 22nd Jan 2023 12:52am)
  • To save you not proving yourself wrong, you won't search for the Generalized Fourth Power Law which states doubling the weight on an axle results in 16 times the damage to a road surface. Shall I do the maths for you, or will you accept that you don't understand physics and that you are wrong? by doug2212 (Sun 22nd Jan 2023 2:35am)
  • I had a good night thanks. by doug2212 (Sun 22nd Jan 2023 8:26am)

  • Pollution has been dropping for many years, [long before LEZ happened](https://www.scottishairquality.scot/data/trends) by doug2212 (Sat 3rd Jun 2023 9:02pm)
  • A 16 year old Mondeo isn't worth what you think it's worth. A 16 year old Bentley is worth less than you think it's worth. What sort of old car? What mileage? Is it LEZ compliant? Do you have a service history? Sorry to be a dick, but having recently sold a pretty decent 19 year old car for much less than I thought it was worth, don't expect much more than a boot in the baws by doug2212 (Tue 19th Sep 2023 2:43am)
  • AC and heated seats are great. AC not so much this time of year, but heated seats are awesome by doug2212 (Wed 20th Sep 2023 3:50am)
  • You'd have been happy with the boiler man turning up to fix a problem, but you have a problem with the man that pays the the boiler man turning up to check on what he's paying for? One of you has a problem, and it's not your landlord by doug2212 (Fri 27th Oct 2023 3:54am)
  • duh Happy to let the heating engineer in, but not the man that pays the heating engineer. It shouldn't be too difficult to understand by doug2212 (Fri 27th Oct 2023 5:40am)
  • No, it's clearly about a change of circumstances not permitted by the contract. Hidden under "I want the engineer here now, but not the man that pays the engineer" And you were suckered by it. It's the landlord's flat. He should be able to rent it for whatever the going rate is. by doug2212 (Fri 27th Oct 2023 5:49am)
  • I'd be tempted to use the mastic on the outside, if possible, and make it an almighty mess that the council can either comment on, or actually do something about by doug2212 (Sun 3rd Dec 2023 10:17pm)
  • My brother used to live in a tenement with no heating. December 1996 saw a week where temps were -17 for the whole week. The water froze in his cistern by doug2212 (Sun 3rd Dec 2023 10:22pm)
  • Do you honestly believe idiots protesting in Glasgow will do anything to prevent Hamas slaughtering Israelis again? It's not like they aren't on record saying they'll continue to carry out similar attacks until there are no Jews left. Hamas knew innocent women and children were going to die long before they started the 7th October slaughter, but let's blame a shipbuilder in Glasgow for things that make sense only in your tiny brain by doug2212 (Thu 7th Dec 2023 11:21pm)
