  • I've been cycling for over a decade, owned a car for 15 years and obviously been a pedestrian since I could walk. In every mode of transport you will get people cutting out in front of you, people not following the rules and people pulling off dangerous manoeuvres. The common denominator being people. So, regardless if you're walking, cycling or driving, the best course of action is always to be prepared to for the unexpected, adjust your speed to the threats around you and be polite and courteous. Getting up on your high horse is not going to change the situation so learn how to live with it safely. by garmin230fenix5 (Sun 5th Dec 2021 8:32am)

  • I came here to post a very similar question. People use my close as a toilet at least once a month and I'm sick of it. Today they peed at the front fucking door of the close instead of round the back, forcing everyone to skip over it as they come in the door. I really don't want to catch them cause I'm too handsome for prison. by garmin230fenix5 (Mon 20th Dec 2021 10:05pm)

  • You must be working for the Internet Research Agency, because no one, literally no one, is so stupid to think the sanctions are hurting us worse than they are hurting the Russians. The rouble is artificially inflated. Russians are literally forming queues for food shortages for basics like sugar the the Krelim has had to bring in price controls for basic food stuffs. The Russian economy is starved of tech and equipment to the point where they are having to ground civilian aircraft in order to scavenge parts for their airforce. The wide spread reporting of Russian soldiers looting white goods demonstrates the scale of hardships facing Russian citizens. What you are doing is utilising the market affect on oil and gas prices of the war to obfuscate the reality. Yes the war is causing inflation and contributing to cost of living increases in the west. However, the sanctions are having, by an order of magnitude, a far greater effect upon the people of Russia than the people of the west. Your comments embody the central message of Putin's cyber propaganda on the west, namely to sow dissent and stoke discord in order to breakdown the west's resolve in committing to supporting the free people of Ukraine. He is deploying his troll farm the Internet Research Agency to achieve this and Russia knows that in a war of attrition it cannot defeat the west, but rather falsley believes that our basic freedoms, such as freedom of speech and freedom of the press, are our greatest weaknesses and thus aims to break our commitment through the aforementioned strategies that your position on the war and sanctions embody. For this reason I truly hope you are a Russian troll, because if not then it is truly tragic and pathetic that you have been duped into such a line of thinking so easily. by garmin230fenix5 (Mon 1st Aug 2022 2:19pm)
  • I'm not getting into an argument on the Internet with someone who possesses such an embarrassingly deficient knowledge of what they are discussing. Sanctions on Russia are not western companies pulling out of Russia. Russia is still selling gas to Europe but trying to limit supplies through the premise of Nordstream 1 maintenance issues. They are doing this to try and prevent European countries stockpiling in the winter. As a result, Russia is having to sell it's oil and gas at discounted prices to other markets. This is Russia's primary income. Unlike western countries they do not benefit from a diversified economy. Russian and Ukrainian grain is not the bulk of Europe's grain. The effect of this is inflating the price of grain on international markets. The rich west can afford this. African countries cannot. So while Europe will pay the inflated price, Putin's actions will starve the poorest in the world. Russia is already struggling to produce food for itself due to the fertiliser ban. This will only get worse. When Russia annexed Crimea in 2014, it oversaw a massive reduction in farmland acreage and widespread fresh water drinking shortages and resultant irrigation issues. The crux is this: dictatorships can appear to work through censorship and propaganda, but the western liberal democratic model and accompanying free market economics are what have stood the test of time and will, end the end, be what sees off Russia. This war of attrition will only have one winner. You can reply to this if you want, but given it is obvious that you are trolling from an Internet Research Agency bunker I see no point in continuing. I wish you well Ivan in the upcoming Russian food riots, red terror 2.0, and general dissolution of your society. I hope your gulag isn't too cold and you survive your "tenner" as Aleksander Solzhenitsyn revealed to the world what was the standard of Russian civility. by garmin230fenix5 (Mon 1st Aug 2022 2:56pm)

  • What sort of distance do you run, or are you just starting out? by garmin230fenix5 (Sun 25th Dec 2022 10:21pm)
  • Have you got a pair of decent, properly fitted running shoes? If not Achillies Heel on Gt Western Rd can sort you out. What sort of distance do you start out at and how quickly do you increase? Most injuries come from overloading the muscles with training volume. Apps like couch to 5k generally increase at a pace that minimises the risk of injury. You might find that your cardio is letting you increase volume at a pace quicker than your muscles can adapt to. Having said that, when you run you want to imagine that the top of your head is dangling from a spring and hence this should help maintain your posture. Also when running try to avoid heel striking. Be conscious of the part of your foot that is being used for landing and pushing off and try to alter it so you use the front of your feet. Local running clubs usually have some sort of coach attached to them but they're generally of more use to people trying to improve times etc. What is of more value to you is the wealth of knowledge and experience you can tap into from all the members. Everyone started out from being a non runner and are more than happy to share their experiences and tips. They will have beginner sessions and I'd imagine this would be your best bet rather than a running coach per se. Good luck! by garmin230fenix5 (Mon 26th Dec 2022 9:18am)

  • Has a sports podiatrist or a physio told you that your running form is so bad that it'll injure you? I broke my big toe and it healed squinty. It took 6 months of running before the biomechanical changes created injury problems in my calf. I'm no expert but pretty sure the prevailing consensus these days is that your running style is your running style. The days of trying to create the perfect stride through artificial interventions or enhancements in shoe technology etc are over. So I'd be skeptical that your running form is the crux of the injuries, unless there is a pre existing medical type musculoskeletal issue. Why is it you think it's how you run? by garmin230fenix5 (Tue 27th Dec 2022 6:57pm)
  • Aw well, they'll obviously know a lot more about it than me! When I started incurring those calf injuries because of my toe, I went to these guys https://thetreatmenthub.co.uk/ in Hamilton. They're sports podiatrists and do all sorts of fancy pressure and gait tests etc. They might be a good shout to advise how to proceed. Hope you get it sorted :) by garmin230fenix5 (Tue 27th Dec 2022 8:26pm)

  • Round the cowal peninsula is absolutely gorgeous and generally less crowded once you come off the a83. You can drive down to one of the most beautiful spots for a pub at Otter Ferry where they often have stuff going on. I cycle round that way regularly and have happened upon hidden we gigs with a real community feel. Then round to Tighnabruaich before choosing between your return journey via Dunoon or across from Colintraive for a wee tour round Bute with gorgeous sands, beaches and coves. All round that way there are ruined castles, forest walks, standing stones and more. It really is one of the truly undiscovered gems of Scotland... I actually feel guilty bringing attention to it in case everyone finally catches on. by garmin230fenix5 (Thu 6th Apr 2023 7:54pm)

  • There seems to be an assumption by many commenters here that higher socio-economic catchment area= better school to work in, but in my experience that is just not the case. I've worked at "top" East ren schools and some of the lowest attaining schools in the west of Scotland, and I've found that kids in lower socio-economic areas tend to be more appreciative and generally respectful of your position as a teacher. Likewise, parents tend to be more supportive and trusting of your professional opinion. Obviously if there isn't an effective behavioural policy in place then this will cause issues, but that's the case in all schools. In fact, in schools with the most challenging behaviour you find that the staff work far more collaboratively and are much more supportive towards each other as opposed to the silo working/empire building you find in many high performing attainment schools. Finding a good school to work in is far more complex than just looking at catchment areas. by garmin230fenix5 (Tue 18th Apr 2023 11:51pm)

  • "They choose which crimes..." no they don't. They gather evidence to present. There is a difference. If there isn't enough evidence they can't present. I presume it was just you and the suspect? In that case, without knowing any details (and nor do I want to btw) it sounds like there isn't any corroborating evidence.
