  • Too many people are unnecessarily upset about GCC trying to make an effort with the Gaelic. Worst case scenario, your wains end up bilingual and can learn other languages, giving them an edge over those who don’t. by iRobyn (Thu 21st Jul 2022 7:16pm)
  • You’re one of them, aren’t you? by iRobyn (Thu 21st Jul 2022 10:03pm)
  • I don’t want to sound really creepy or anything, this is the internet though 😂 but I’m 29 and live near the west end, if you want we could go for a drink some point next month? by iRobyn (Fri 29th Jul 2022 5:06pm)
  • I’m tagging you and u/joeyishectic so you can both read this comment 😂 what if we try and arrange a date for middle of august? We could arrange to meet at a pub in town and do lunch and some drinks, I’ll bring a sign so people can find us 😂 by iRobyn (Fri 29th Jul 2022 11:02pm)
  • Absolutely not me, I rent from GHA and because I’m a full time carer, l never have enough in savings for a mortgage. I’m 29 and it’s probably going to be years before I could save up, no bank is going to give a 40 year old a mortgage with my work history. by iRobyn (Wed 3rd Aug 2022 3:09pm)
  • I didn’t think about the units but I think they got replaced when they introduced Nat 5, but I will look into it thank you! by iRobyn (Tue 9th Aug 2022 10:31pm)
  • Thanks for this will check them out 😊 by iRobyn (Tue 9th Aug 2022 10:31pm)
  • Thank you!! by iRobyn (Tue 9th Aug 2022 10:30pm)
  • Appreciate this! Don’t want to sound braggy but maths was always my best subject in school, I didn’t sit the exam because I broke my elbow the day of it and had missed the prelims from being sick. It’s probably a lot harder now and I’ve been away from school for a while but will be checking out the past papers first :) by iRobyn (Wed 10th Aug 2022 12:47pm)
  • Which post office in Drumchapel? I tried the one on Spey road which is technically Bearsden, but they said no. One at the shopping centre should take it though, I cashed one in today at Knightswood Road if it’s any use. by iRobyn (Thu 1st Sep 2022 3:46pm)
  • On my way to have a look and took some containers with me, I actually need some spices so this might work out in my favour 😂 thank you! by iRobyn (Sat 3rd Sep 2022 2:51pm)
  • I’m on my way to have a look, thanks! by iRobyn (Sat 3rd Sep 2022 2:51pm)
  • Gutted I didn’t see this while I was there, I would have bought the apple juice. Ended up buying pasta, teabags, some seeds and herbs & spices. Came to £11, it’s pricey for what it is though. by iRobyn (Sat 3rd Sep 2022 8:54pm)
  • Actually I second this! I’ve never had a problem with Blancolo. Most of my piercings were done there, exception with my nose piercing (got that done at Titan in Clydebank). They pierce exactly the same way everyone else does and as long as you look after them they’ll be fine (plus you’ll save at least a tenner). by iRobyn (Sun 16th Oct 2022 1:47pm)
  • My brother lives just outside of Ibrox, I’d say there or Govan in general. The 9a bus is quite frequent even for first bus, and takes you right over to the bus stances. by iRobyn (Tue 8th Nov 2022 3:29pm)
  • I heard that some centres are ridiculously busy and the wait times are long. I booked for Drumchapel community centre, showed up at 5pm when my appointment was 5.45pm, was in and out in fifteen minutes. by iRobyn (Thu 10th Nov 2022 12:13pm)
  • I agree with everyone saying go to Krakow, it’s the best option. You’re in a city with great museums and street markets, but close enough to take a day trip to Auschwitz. A lot of people don’t know this, but Auschwitz is free to enter, you just need a ticket (you need to book quite far in advance so check now). The only time you need to pay a fee is if you want a tour guide to walk you around and explain everything to you. If you prefer taking your time and going at your own pace, book a free ticket. There’s a really good book shop outside, don’t skip this, lots of informative books in there. A train from Krakow to Oswiecim is a little over two hours, but a return ticket cost me under £10. It’s a lot to try and do in one day though, with a flight and then the day trip. If you’re dead set on it, get an early flight then head straight to Auschwitz and book a late flight for the day after. by iRobyn (Sun 13th Nov 2022 2:38pm)
  • I had no idea this existed, it’s such a good idea. I have some cash I can give him for that, thank you! by iRobyn (Tue 22nd Nov 2022 11:59am)
  • Thank you! Trying the food bank right now to see if he can self refer but the job centre said they can’t help. by iRobyn (Tue 22nd Nov 2022 11:58am)
  • I make a meal plan on a Sunday, and get an Asda delivery for the Monday. Less food going to waste if you stick to it. Also started buying Just Essentials, which was Smart Price, stocking up on freezer essentials. Haven’t been able to afford putting the heating on, so I got an electric blanket and a oscillating portable heater for the living room from Argos. Half an hour with that and the whole room is heated for hours. by iRobyn (Wed 23rd Nov 2022 6:42pm)
  • Because I’m a carer it’s difficult to get to Aldi for me (no Lidl where I am) but I’m thinking of switching. Maybe just use Asda once a month for bulky things like soap powder and toiletries but head over to Aldi for food shopping. Thanks though!! by iRobyn (Thu 24th Nov 2022 1:42pm)
  • Right now I have a pay as you go meter. I topped up £20 last week, right away £18 was taken for a standing charge and 50p for debt, leaving us £1.50 which is only lasting 20 minutes before it runs out. I don’t work because I’m a carer, and genuinely can’t afford top top it up anymore. by iRobyn (Thu 24th Nov 2022 1:41pm)
  • Honestly I appreciate any advice, thank you for this! Just had a look there and saw local councillor has a surgery on Saturday, might head over there and speak to him in person and try and get something done. Failing that I’ll just go to someone higher up until someone sorts it for me! by iRobyn (Thu 24th Nov 2022 3:40pm)
  • I think so. I don’t recognise any of them personally but they’re here all the time, literally twenty minutes ago a massive crowd walked past my house all screaming and arguing with each other, bouncing off my hedge and trying to pull it down… by iRobyn (Thu 24th Nov 2022 7:15pm)
  • That’s my biggest fear right now, that I spend the money on a new bin and they come in a take it again. The thing I don’t get though is that I have spare wood at the side of the house, they had to walk past that to drag a bin into the park when it would have been easier to just grab a plank of wood. by iRobyn (Thu 24th Nov 2022 7:27pm)
  • That’s a great idea thank you! I agree they are competitive, they’d love to be able to say “I helped when you didn’t” 😂 by iRobyn (Thu 24th Nov 2022 7:25pm)
  • Lower Knightswood, two minutes from the Lincoln Pub and main shops. by iRobyn (Thu 24th Nov 2022 11:14pm)
  • Thanks so much, I’ll keep this in mind! I’d love to see you get yours fixed first before I took it, so if I don’t have any luck in a couple of weeks I’d love to take it, only if you don’t mind though. People on this sub are amazing for sure. by iRobyn (Fri 25th Nov 2022 12:56pm)
  • I did look into the “Friends of Knightswood Park” group but I think they’re shut down. There’s been no activity since 2020 and it seems like they tried to do something about the teenagers hanging around but was met with the usual “my kid wouldn’t do anything like that”. by iRobyn (Fri 25th Nov 2022 12:55pm)
  • We’ll call this Plan B. by iRobyn (Fri 25th Nov 2022 1:17pm)
  • It definitely could be worse! I mean it seems to be tame compared to how some people are being treated, and I hear other parts of the city are wild right now. It also seems to be good for a week, and then right back to it. Fires are out of control the now at the tree area across from St. Ninians. by iRobyn (Fri 25th Nov 2022 1:16pm)
  • I grew up in the drum too, which is why that post I was talking about was weird to me, I can’t imagine it getting so bad I’d move back to Drumchapel 😂 I just don’t have a spare £54 right before Christmas, hoping to get it sorted this weekend though. by iRobyn (Fri 25th Nov 2022 1:21pm)
  • Ah okay I was going by their Facebook page, it’s been pretty quiet. Didn’t see them doing the litter pick! by iRobyn (Fri 25th Nov 2022 2:20pm)
  • Thought I’d come back and let you know this, my neighbours sold their house and gave me one of their spare green bins, thank you for the offer though! I’ve now got it chained up 😂 by iRobyn (Sat 10th Dec 2022 4:40pm)
  • Kinda reluctant to post about this because people on UC get a bad rep, but maybe more people need to hear this? I'm a full time carer for my disabled, wheelchair bound dad. I'm 30, he's 72. His disability is from spinal damage while in the army, and he has COPD and hearing loss. I don't work, and the most I could work is 12 hours a week, and at that point they would cut my benefits for trying to work. We also have my disabled sister living here who is 16. The benefits he receives, go towards our living costs - electricity, food, and other household bills such as internet and home insurance (we rent from Wheatley). Now because I can't work because he needs full time care, I get the pleasure of receiving £70 a week on carers allowance. I don't see a penny of this. It goes towards our heating costs, and sometimes towards my dads care because the NHS have deemed him ineligible for certain help. On the weeks we can't afford to put the heating on, I have to wrap my 72 year old disabled father in blankets and pray the emergency credit gets us through the night. I also get Universal credit, which roughly works out to be £50 a week. Phone bill for me is currently £40, bus pass is £56 and then a small amount towards debts around £20, leaves me a grand fucking total of £21 per week to spend on myself. Now people usually tell me one of two things. 1 - You need to learn to budget better. My response is usually "kindly fuck off" and "actually for a 30 year old who got thrown into this position pretty much overnight, I budget quite well and keep my family going", or 2 - You need to ask for extra help. **There is no extra help available.** The government put £66 a month on our electricity meter, but that finishes in February next year. What happens then? Because at the current rate we need £100 a month towards keeping the house with electricity and keeping my dads breathing machine on. Call citizens advice? Great, done that. Two week fucking wait to speak to an advisor who tells you they don't have any food bank vouchers available. Try SSAFA? Great, done that. They assign you a caseworker who is never available, and judges you for making expenditures on things that aren't necessary such as the christmas tree. Check for extra benefits? Already done it, there's none. So here I sit, a university educated, 30 year old woman, with £24.90 in my bank thinking to myself "I done it, I saved a bit of money". The ones who could help us have turned their backs on us. It's a broken system meant to keep us down, they don't actually want me to work. If I get a full time job, I'd have to pay out of pocket for home care to come help my dad and sister. If I try and go part time, anything over 8 hours would cut my universal credit, and I'd be on exactly the same amount of money each month. Sorry this was so long to read, but it's exhausting. Right now, we're stable enough. We've got the heating on tonight, and enough electricity for the next week. There's people out there so much worse and I just sit here thinking, if I'm struggling, how the hell are they getting through it?? by iRobyn (Wed 14th Dec 2022 11:16pm)
  • Event Management from UWS. by iRobyn (Thu 15th Dec 2022 12:09am)
  • My mum died last February, she was his full time carer and I took over. Before this I was working full time in Primark, little over £10 an hour so I took out a new contract for an iPhone 12, was making pretty decent money with the overtime I took but had to quit. by iRobyn (Thu 15th Dec 2022 12:07am)
  • Ah forgot to say, I was a mature student so I graduated in 2020, right after covid hit so I didn’t even get the graduation gown just an envelope sent to my door with the diploma 😂 I took the job in primark in January of 2020 and was making good money so was going to work there another couple of years while looking for a job in events. by iRobyn (Thu 15th Dec 2022 12:14am)
  • Thanks for that! I’ll look into that, might be able to help me out with something. by iRobyn (Thu 15th Dec 2022 12:32am)
  • Thanks for that. I’m just at a point now where I’m like, there’s no point really trying to make a difference, and that makes me sad because this time two years ago I would have went to that demonstration and tried to help. by iRobyn (Thu 15th Dec 2022 1:23am)
  • I feel like that's pretty much my situation too, we manage but barely, exactly like you said. I could almost cry with relief that a charity put £180 on our electricity meter today, wasn't expecting it and had been trying to figure out expenses for the week. On facebook, I had someone say to me "you're always in this group, why don't you have a job to go to?' - oh the rage... by iRobyn (Thu 15th Dec 2022 2:10pm)
  • Hi, thanks for the reply! I tried a bit of both to be honest, SSAFA is the main military charity people contact but they assign a case worked who is overrun with people. They also tend to help the homeless veterans first, not saying they shouldn't but it means the ones who are barely getting by get kind of left behind. Also the second I try to work, they cut benefits so right now it doesn't make it any easier. Because I'm unemployed and claiming UC, we get the council tax exemption, but the second I try to work they remove the exemption and I end up worse off. If I work over 12 hours I also lose the carers allowance, and would have to pay out of pocket for care for my dad. It's impossible to save up, they tell you they can support you but leave you behind. by iRobyn (Thu 15th Dec 2022 2:19pm)
  • Hi there, I didn't know about the welfare department offering shopping vouchers, I'll be honest that would help us out a lot so I'll look into that. My mum died last year in February, she was my dad's full time carer and I offered to take over. My dad isn't ready for a care home, the only thing wrong with him is his mobility and breathing, he doesn't have dementia or any cognitive issues and he doesn't want to leave his home for a care home so I'll never force him to do it. If it was the other way around and I was the one who needed full time care, he would do it for me. My sister gets support from school & other groups, but her disability isn't one that would need her to move out. She helps around the house and stuff, she'll probably never live an independent life though. Don't want to embarass my dad but you're right about the state providing limited resources, that's why I'm now paying out of pocket for things! Next step I guess is to contact the council and see what they can offer. by iRobyn (Thu 15th Dec 2022 2:36pm)
  • [https://www.gov.uk/government/news/400-energy-bills-discount-to-support-households-this-winter](https://www.gov.uk/government/news/400-energy-bills-discount-to-support-households-this-winter) \- Low income households are eligible for this, I'm not 100% sure if everyone is eligible, maybe give them a call and find out? They put £66/67 a month onto our electricity meter, might be because my dad is a pensioner who receives certain benefits. by iRobyn (Thu 15th Dec 2022 3:23pm)
  • Oops sorry just saw this, no I'm in the Knightswood area. by iRobyn (Thu 15th Dec 2022 10:20pm)
  • Aw I really appreciate the offer but I would feel awful taking money from people, especially this time of year. I really hope you have an amazing Christmas & New Year ✨ by iRobyn (Fri 16th Dec 2022 12:05pm)
  • Thanks! Typical I guess, just my luck this would happen right before Christmas and after protests... by iRobyn (Wed 21st Dec 2022 3:03pm)
  • Ah okay, thanks for that. Thought I might have had a bit of luck showing up and asking for help but no point if I can't get past the front door. by iRobyn (Wed 21st Dec 2022 3:01pm)
  • There's no option to speak to anyone on the chat, unless you have an emergency and are off supply. I even tried lying just to get through to someone and they disconnected right away... by iRobyn (Wed 21st Dec 2022 3:08pm)
  • Hi, thanks for that. If I don't get any help with them on the phone today I'll definitely do that! by iRobyn (Wed 21st Dec 2022 3:14pm)
  • I saw someone on this sub a while back saying the showed up to Scottish Power HQ with a problem, and a manager came straight downstairs and fixed it for them, was probably a complete different situation though so I'm going to hold on with the phone queue and hop they answer before the phone lines shut by iRobyn (Wed 21st Dec 2022 3:11pm)
  • Tempting, we'll call that Plan B! by iRobyn (Wed 21st Dec 2022 3:10pm)
  • Nah I think it's something else to be honest. Last night there was £176 on the meter, right now it's sitting at just under £40, that's left over from the £66 the government topped up on the account. The only time we get a negative balance is after 7pm and the credit runs out, they don't cut the supply until the next morning but they take that negative amount straight off the amount you top up. by iRobyn (Wed 21st Dec 2022 3:20pm)
  • That’s a very good point, my wait time on the phone is now 1 hour and 45 minutes so I’m slowly moving forward I guess, if I don’t have any lucky with this I’ll email for sure. Might be best just to send an email anyway so I have a record of everything. by iRobyn (Wed 21st Dec 2022 3:29pm)
  • Weirdly enough they were my first thought but I’m still waiting on them calling me back about something unrelated - it’s a two/three week wait for a call back from citizens advice right now and they no longer take walk ins. Energy Ombudsman is a good shout though thank you! by iRobyn (Wed 21st Dec 2022 3:45pm)
  • She said it was noted as an unregistered transaction at first, and when they tried to call me (they absolutely didn’t) and got no response, they removed the money incase of fraud. by iRobyn (Wed 21st Dec 2022 5:09pm)
  • I really need an update on this one ☝️did you get to save the cheese? by iRobyn (Thu 22nd Dec 2022 6:55pm)
  • Can't wait to get on a bus and not have some asshole 16 year old blow vape smoke down the bus, the try to pitifully deny it as if the rest of the passengers were lying... by iRobyn (Wed 15th Mar 2023 1:19pm)
  • Tickets are gone! by iRobyn (Wed 22nd Mar 2023 4:33pm)
  • Great can you message your details! by iRobyn (Wed 22nd Mar 2023 4:30pm)
  • Please, please, please don't let this get you down. I left school with zero qualifications and managed to get a degree at the age of 26, you absolutely can do it if that's what you want. I hope it's okay but I went and had a look at some courses for you, I checked the ones that have a biology option. Do you have any national 4 qualifications? I had a look at Glasgow Clyde College for you (Langside campus) and they offer a National 4 course which is a science path, you would study Nat 4's in English, Maths, Biology & Chemistry, plus a personal development class. They offer it for the Nat 5 route, but if you don't have the Nat 4's then you can't get the entry to it. This could be a good way to start fresh though and study the classes you want by taking the Nat 4 route ([link for it here](https://www.glasgowclyde.ac.uk/courses/4203304-national-4-with-sciences-level-4/4765)). If you don't feel ready for college, there is absolutley nothing wrong with going and getting a job. You could do this, but study part time with the Open University. Even if it takes you a little longer, the qualifications still count and you can get the fees covered by a part time fee grant. Whatever you chose will be the right option, good luck. by iRobyn (Mon 3rd Apr 2023 3:52pm)
  • Would be an absolute shame if you accidentally scratched it on your way past, right? by iRobyn (Sun 9th Apr 2023 2:15pm)
  • I don't have a car. I put off getting back into driving so I could finish uni, work for a while and save up before getting out there again, but I had to become a full time carer for my dad and lessons are almost £40 an hour. In the meantime, I pay almost £55 a month for a bus pass, it's not ideal especially because the buses are awful right now, I can stand there for 20 minutes and in that time four buses should have passed. I don't live near the train stations, the subway is too far out, taxis are expensive and it would take me 50 minutes to walk to a supermarket, each way. by iRobyn (Thu 13th Apr 2023 1:35pm)
  • By sheer bad luck, I’m actually waiting on a bus two hours after writing this. The bus stop is at the top of my street, and it takes me a minute to get there. Bus has changed from 6 minutes away, to jumping off the map completely and the next one is 25 minutes away… by iRobyn (Thu 13th Apr 2023 4:11pm)

  • Was in knightswood park at this time and a guy came up to me asking if I knew what was going on, like no maybe they’re just doing military exercises? And he said to me “they’re not showing up on the flight radar website” - wee guy is convinced of conspiracies. by iRobyn (Mon 17th Apr 2023 10:41pm)
  • Ah that’s interesting that they were top watched though! I wish I had thought to look for that feature myself at the time, I’ll remember for next time if I see them. by iRobyn (Tue 18th Apr 2023 1:34am)
  • Thanks I'll defo give this a try! I went back and edited my post, I knew it would happen haha. by iRobyn (Tue 18th Apr 2023 11:20pm)
  • Thanks I’ll definitely give them a try also! by iRobyn (Wed 19th Apr 2023 1:48am)
  • I appreciate the help but my family all live pretty far out, like a good two hours away and the ones I live near don’t drive either. I think I’ve managed to come up with a payment plan though to put £40 a week away, and try and pass before the end of the year before the prices rise again! by iRobyn (Tue 25th Apr 2023 12:13pm)
  • Number 3 bus. If you start in Drumchapel train station, and it can take a good two hours to get to Silverburn shopping centre. Goes right through the city centre, then Paisley to get there. by iRobyn (Tue 25th Apr 2023 12:16pm)
  • Ah you’re right sorry! I was thinking of my uni journey when I used to switch over to a 9! But it definitely will take two hours if OP needs a long journey. by iRobyn (Tue 25th Apr 2023 12:33pm)
  • I used to work in a co-op and absolutely didn't see the woman who slid the packs of nappies under the pram... She came to the till to pay for the rest of the stuff, but she was shaking so much, must have been her first time trying something like that but I smiled and even helped her out the door. by iRobyn (Thu 18th May 2023 10:28pm)
  • I read somewhere that part of the reason the prices have gone up so much is because there was contaminated baby formula in the USA, China and a lot of other Asian countries. There was a huge demand for UK brands because their baby formula had tested negative for Cronobacter, the bacteria which makes babies extremely ill, but factories here couldn't keep up with the demand so they raise the prices to stop people buying in bulk. by iRobyn (Thu 18th May 2023 10:32pm)
  • The way I was looking at it was that the shop can’t prove I didn’t see it, and also it was unlikely they would notice until the stocktake, so no point in getting a woman charged who’s just trying to look out for her kid. by iRobyn (Fri 19th May 2023 1:45am)
  • I’m not OP but I collect pin badges too! My aunt started this off, she was given a pinboard at her job in 1995, had no use for it and started putting pins on it. She gave it to me in 2004, the actual board has been replaced a few times but the pins just move over, I’ve got around 90 now. by iRobyn (Fri 9th Jun 2023 9:28am)
  • I'm still not 100% sure about the diversions. My closest bus stop is on GWR so usually catch the 6A or 3 into Drumchapel. The number 3 is being diverted away from Lincoln Avenue to go straight into Drumchapel, but some of the drivers are still going through. So last night I had to get off the bus at Lincoln Avenue, walk through the park to get home. By the time I got home, two number 3 buses came through and passed anyway, so it seems like only some bus drivers are paying attention to the diversion? There's no signs on this part of the city, and all day I've been helping tourists who were heading to the BMX track but got lost because there's no signs or directions on what bus to use. by iRobyn (Sat 5th Aug 2023 5:23pm)
  • Hi! I'm a little late to the party here, but I just want to say I hope you come to Glasgow! Our little city isn't perfect, but we are welcoming of everyone and I think you would love it here. I done an exchange while at uni and honestly I tell everyone to do it, you'll love it. Also take advantage of the weekends, we have great links to other cities and we're only a train ride away from some amazing views. If you want some recommendations while you're here for day trips or ever need a woman to help out, send me a message on here! by iRobyn (Thu 10th Aug 2023 1:15pm)

  • My dad was a builder and done repairs on similar, is this Lincoln avenue? He said this would be building maintenance up there, light & lift controls and electrical panels for the entire building. Closed off to everyone, you’d need a key to get in and the lift doesn’t go there. by iRobyn (Sat 12th Aug 2023 8:40pm)

  • I'm so sorry this happened to you, I hope you're doing okay. As much as I like the Glasgow reddit page, you might be better trying facebook when looking for witnesses. There's a group called "Glasglow Girls Club", it's a private group but it has over 40k members so even if you don't get the person who helped they might have said something to a family member who would see the post, you can also post anonymously on it. If you don't want to join the group, I wouldn't mind posting on your behalf and giving a police ref so you don't have to speak to anyone. That group will also have a lot of people who can offer resources if you ever need them, don't hold back asking for help if you need it x by iRobyn (Fri 6th Oct 2023 1:02pm)
  • I called them today but they were useless to be honest... First person I spoke to said we're supposed to have annual visits, second person said she's never heard of them. by iRobyn (Mon 6th Nov 2023 7:57pm)
  • Well shit maybe someone complained! I really don’t think I’m a problem tenant, I live in an end terrace so not in a close, no pets and no young kids running around :( by iRobyn (Mon 6th Nov 2023 9:39pm)
  • Thanks so much, I’m honestly just stressing myself out for nothing. Someone else messaged me and said we’re supposed to have an annual visit but it’s the first in 14 years so I panicked a little 😂 by iRobyn (Mon 6th Nov 2023 10:08pm)
