  • Don't know if there was sound, as I was sitting through a conference call... But this was a good watch, and helped me keep my sanity during that call. by kingofskullisland (Thu 10th Jan 2019 9:18am)
  • I've personally been in your position. CBT will only work if you really want it to work, hence why your GP will compliment it with medication. Propanolol won't directly affect your anxiety, but it'll lessen the symptons. So you may not be drenched in sweat, or your heart won't race etc. giving you a better chance at not having a fight or flight reflex. Antidepressants take a few weeks to fully work, and you have to take them daily for several months or even years. If you miss a dose, you may experience withdrawel symptoms that can be anywhere from "ugh, this sucks" to "FFFFFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUU my eyeballs are exploding!". If you want your doctor to listen to you, tell him the things you've done so far, to combat your anxiety. Don't lie, you want to get help, not score drugs, so it's imperative that you really did those things and sincerely think there is no other option. Hope this helps. by kingofskullisland (Mon 21st Jan 2019 1:37pm)
  • I walk by that place, daily, and have always wondered if they were taking the piss... I thought my boss was joking when he told me about it, until I saw it myself. by kingofskullisland (Wed 23rd Jan 2019 2:50pm)
  • Yes, top floor of the Skypark. It was in March, 2017, an auto part shop went up in flames, I think. by kingofskullisland (Tue 12th Feb 2019 6:32pm)
  • Yep, 9th floor. by kingofskullisland (Tue 12th Feb 2019 7:26pm)
  • My barber and I have an unspoken agreement. He still charges me the same price he charged me the first time I went in, and I tip him the difference up until the actual price. I think he appreciates having a regular customer more than 2 quid from a random person. by kingofskullisland (Wed 13th Feb 2019 10:00am)
  • I was wondering why some folks were walking around in a high vis vest through Buchanan street that day. Should have told them to get fucked while I had the opportunity. by kingofskullisland (Wed 13th Feb 2019 12:46pm)
  • You are correct, the view was the only benefit of working there. Then SP5 was opened and the view was gone... Never held it outside the window though, I'm far too clumsy and was fond of my phone. by kingofskullisland (Wed 13th Feb 2019 3:48pm)
  • Ironically, everyone I knew was suspicious about last Summer. Apparently it had NOT rained for that long in years. by kingofskullisland (Fri 15th Feb 2019 9:51am)
  • I was using my phone camera. It's a composite image with different exposure times. by kingofskullisland (Fri 15th Feb 2019 3:41pm)

  • Reminds me of my old place: Tenants: The metal bin you gave us are never picked up. Council: Just leave the bin bags in that area, we'll pick it up. Tenants: They tore the bin bags and spread rubbish all around the back! Council: We'll have someone look. *Trash piles up for 3 weeks* Tenants: Are trash has not been collected in weeks! Council: Garbage men said there's rats in the area, it's health and safety risk. Tenants: They're the ones that spread the trash all over the back! Council: Once you resolve the rat issue, we'll come pick up again. by kingofskullisland (Wed 6th Mar 2019 8:28am)
  • Jebus, It really didn't take long before I was contacted regarding sharing the rights to this for a profit. If anyone is interested: I declined. So if this pops up on some news site, please let me know. by kingofskullisland (Mon 11th Mar 2019 12:31pm)
  • Yep, I believe they were filming something for a film class or something similar. by kingofskullisland (Mon 11th Mar 2019 1:08pm)
  • Probably would have been easy money, but I wouldn't like to be seen in a video that someone made, and suddeny be visible everywhere. So I decided to not be a bigot and just declined by kingofskullisland (Mon 11th Mar 2019 1:10pm)
  • Oh, I agree. Goof around in public, and someone's bound to have a camera on you, it's the law of the land. I just wouldn't want it done myself, so the moral compass dictated me not to. by kingofskullisland (Mon 11th Mar 2019 3:45pm)
  • Ha! Called it! by kingofskullisland (Tue 2nd Apr 2019 2:20pm)
  • Ibrox, my total cost of living for all monthly bills is apparently 600 quid, that includes rent, insurance, council tax, internet, mobile phone. As for energy usage, checking my app, I use about 50 quid a month for gas and electricity, sometimes a bit more, but usually around that. by kingofskullisland (Tue 28th May 2019 2:30pm)
  • I dunno, it was quite nice yesterday, evening: https://imgur.com/a/PruXcUZ by kingofskullisland (Fri 7th Jun 2019 10:49am)
  • Indeed, it was rubbish. So when I saw how nice it was in the evening, I just had to go for a walk and suck up the precious vitamin D. by kingofskullisland (Fri 7th Jun 2019 12:06pm)
  • Oddly, SPT already sell the Day Tripper, which allows you to use the Subway, bus and train, all day, in the SPT area. I usually use that one when heading up to Tarbet or to the coast, and have a friend with me. by kingofskullisland (Fri 28th Jun 2019 10:56am)
  • Sorry, I wasn't implying that it's great or anything, but was just trying to point out that they all got their shit together one day and said "Oi cunts, how 'bout we's smash dem tarrifs togetha 'n let da 'umis use one ticket!? ...But make it only for a day." by kingofskullisland (Fri 28th Jun 2019 5:05pm)
  • Aw man, I quite liked that ship that was previously there. Sure, they overcharged everything, but it was a neat store, and you could some good ideas of what you wanted, and then find it cheaper. I'm not even joking. Bought a knife set for around 100 quid. A week or two later, I see the exact same one, in ASDA, for 30 quid. by kingofskullisland (Wed 10th Jul 2019 12:17pm)
  • Been living here for 4 years. I have to say that I actually welcome some of the gentrification. I may not be a huge fan of the style they are using, but overall, you can't just continue keeping building from 1900 standing until they are completely derelict. The Clyde waterfront on the south side has been rather hideous to look at for a while now, and seeing abandoned buildings that may just collapse in 20 years time, doesn't really make the best impression of a city, if you're rolling into Central. I will agree, however, that maintaining a certain style for a city is important for its identity. A unique thing about Glasgow that I've noticed is "mini towers" on buildings. It adds a certain level of quirkiness that I've come to love about living here. I'll often tell people visiting to look up and look at the details on the buildings in the city centre. So I'm glad they didn't just steam roll everything in the 60s and refurbished/re-used most of the Victorian buildings. by kingofskullisland (Thu 11th Jul 2019 7:17am)
  • Can definitely recomend conic hill. the devil's pulpit isn't too far from there either, but a bit tricky to reach, even with a car, as the parking is very limited. by kingofskullisland (Sun 28th Jul 2019 8:48am)
  • I have quite a few gay friends, and they never mention having any problems. They just live their normal lives and seem to be unbothered by most things. a Friend said she was called a dyke while walking down the road, but aside from that, I haven't heard anything really negative from them. While not gay myself, I have been to some of the gay bars here, and I have to say that everyone has been absolutely fabulous there. by kingofskullisland (Thu 1st Aug 2019 9:31am)
  • I've been asked several times what teams I support. I'm not at all into sports (Yes, I know, shame, shame, shame.), so I always said I wasn't. I took the disappointed reaction as them just wanting to talk about sports, but this sheds a new light on it. by kingofskullisland (Thu 22nd Aug 2019 7:49am)
  • To be fair, I grew up near Kaiserslautern, in Germany. It's basically the same deal. by kingofskullisland (Thu 22nd Aug 2019 11:11am)
  • Heya! Depending on where in NZ you are from, you'll have to define "mid-income". I'm assuming the west end would suit you (Hillhead, Partick etc.). Though most European cities are very compact, compared to the new world, so prices can vary a lot in a smaller area. I have no idea how the work siutation is for that type of visa, I'm a EU citizen and may have to find out soon, so anyone pitching that information over will have my gratitude. As for transport, we have a cute little subway systemthat goes from the west end to the city centre and is the easiest way to cross the river imo. There are plenty of buses, taxis and Uber, but the general consensus of busses in Glasgow is that we'd like to run the companies into a ditch and light the on fire. An SAD lamp and vitamin D supplements is what gets most people through. A GP will often prescribe the supplements, but they are readily available in most stores. As for walking home alone at night, I've never had problems, but it only takes once incident to ruin everything. If you stay in a group, you'll likely be fine, but this also depends on the area itself... Though I would bring a big group, if I wanted to walk under the Highland Man's Umbrella (The bridge under Central Station) at night. As someone who is an immigrant, I have to say that the people are absolutely fantastic and welcoming, just don't be a cunt. Feel free to PM me if you have any questions. If anyone disagrees with me, feel free to correct me... Aside from the friendliness of the city, I'm not changing my mind on that one. by kingofskullisland (Fri 23rd Aug 2019 1:43pm)
  • There's heaps of customer service jobs here, and there's an overabundance of super markets here as well so possibly check a few weeks in advance, once you know where you'll be staying. As for apartments/flats, if you want anything that's a bit bigger, I'd recommend southside, some areas have a bit of a bad reputation from the past, but most of those have gentrified rather nicely. On top of rent (AVG £550/1000nzd a month), there's also council tax, which can range anywhere from £100 to £170 a month for about 90% of places (I don't think of the other 10%, as I dare not touch the sun.). A monthly bus ticket will usually be about. If you plan to explore a lot, I recommend getting a zone card with 2 or 3 zones http://www.spt.co.uk/travelcards/zonecard/ . There's also plenty of city bike locations, but you'll not want to be exposed to the elements here all the time. That's from the top of my head. by kingofskullisland (Sat 24th Aug 2019 1:29pm)
  • Now that you mentioned the time, I thought I felt my flat rumble slightly at around that time, but I had stuffed my opium pipe a little too much and thought I imagined it. by kingofskullisland (Mon 9th Sep 2019 8:43am)
  • Walking through the city centre or Kelvingrove park, you're bound to be able to use your nose to locate someone. by kingofskullisland (Fri 13th Sep 2019 1:51pm)
  • Aside from the football games, it's rather quiet. Tons of people are dropped off by busses at festival park pre game and then picked up later. Parking will be a hassle on those days, but otherwise, there shouldn't be an issue with parking. by kingofskullisland (Thu 26th Sep 2019 11:35am)
  • Charity shops will sometimes have some nice stuff. Got a big ikea desk and decent chair for £70 quid, and they'll often deliver, for a fee. by kingofskullisland (Thu 3rd Oct 2019 1:54pm)
  • Can confirm. They also have fairly decent prices... But I think the longest they have is 280cm... At the least the last time I was there. by kingofskullisland (Mon 21st Oct 2019 8:57am)
  • Someone West Ends. by kingofskullisland (Thu 24th Oct 2019 2:24pm)
  • Please let it be the Farthing... by kingofskullisland (Sat 9th Nov 2019 8:07am)
  • I work in the Grosvenor building, the blatant disregard of the U-turn ban baffles me every day. Cars are driving halfway over the pavement, because they don't want to drive around the block. Every 6 months the council is out, trying to fix the damage caused... It's an absolute nightmare, but it's fun to watch, if nothing else is going on. by kingofskullisland (Mon 11th Nov 2019 2:24pm)
  • I may have something for you. I'm storing a set for a friend. I don't think they need it, but I'll doublecheck. I'll DM you if it's available by kingofskullisland (Wed 13th Nov 2019 12:36pm)
  • I can recommend going to Polish delis, or a sweets shop in general. I've been confused as to why they only have Haribos here that I've never heard of. Also, Amazon. by kingofskullisland (Wed 13th Nov 2019 12:51pm)
  • I'd like to know one too. I've probably driven literally over half a million miles in company vehicles over the last decade, but the UK wants me to get a British driving licence. Tried to do so, and the instructor just made me feel like I had never driven before. by kingofskullisland (Wed 20th Nov 2019 3:05pm)
  • I don't think I've seen the Clyde that high in a long time. by kingofskullisland (Mon 2nd Dec 2019 9:10am)
  • I thought it looked familiar. I usually walk to work along there. Good thing I decided to work from home. by kingofskullisland (Mon 16th Dec 2019 7:13am)
  • You could ask your landlord for permission to install something to store the bike on the wall. Twi decently sized hooks should do the trick, if you move the handle bar. Did that in my old flat and worked like a charm... Though I did have some bump ins during the first week or two. by kingofskullisland (Mon 30th Dec 2019 4:47pm)
  • I've only been here a few years, but I've always found the Glaswegian history interesting. I do recall about a tram system that existed up until the 60s, that was then removed. I am not sure why, but reading this article has me scratching my head. Why remove a system, then consider bringing it back some 50-60 years later? I am absolutely for any way of transport that does not require me to pay a cab 20 quid, or go into town to get the bus just to get to the airport, that is like 3-4 miles from where I live... by kingofskullisland (Mon 6th Jan 2020 2:49pm)
  • Aye, the automotive revolution is what killed the trams in Los Angeles as well. I don't drive, so I didn't even think about it. Thanks for the clarification! by kingofskullisland (Mon 6th Jan 2020 3:02pm)
  • I went to Frank Seeger a while ago, got a proper deep tissue massage for 60 minutes. Really friendly German bloke, who kneeded me through so hard that I felt like I was post workout 2 days afterwards. But after that, I noticed that my back no longer was tense while sitting at a desk. Can definitely recommend, it's right next to Central Station. by kingofskullisland (Wed 8th Jan 2020 7:50am)
  • I avoid going outside on my lunch break and try to leave work at 4pm to escape the masses. It's true, it's not as busy as other cities I have been to, but people will just block your way, stand still, walk extremely slow etc. When I walk down union street, it's either junkies on the right side, or walking by the Egyptian Halls scaffolding and being stuck being people that insist on walking next to each other, letting no one pass them. Buchanan street is also out of the question, because there's always someone performing there and you have to dodge people as if it were a bullet storm. by kingofskullisland (Thu 20th Feb 2020 8:25am)
  • If you were parking near the Ibrox stadium, you might be in luck: https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/news/scottish-news/rebel-traffic-wardens-outside-rangers-21522740 by kingofskullisland (Thu 20th Feb 2020 3:00pm)
  • Given that it's the Clyde, you might end up the same way one ends up when trying to swim in the River Ankh. by kingofskullisland (Wed 11th Mar 2020 10:35am)
  • Howdy proximity neighbour! by kingofskullisland (Mon 30th Mar 2020 11:30am)
  • This is the second flipped over vehicle I've Seen in 7 days. Over the weekend a moving trucked at been knocked over by a car in Ibrox. by kingofskullisland (Tue 23rd Jun 2020 7:57am)
  • I live in the vicinity and find the football crowd horrible here... Can't even fathom how bad it must be there. by kingofskullisland (Wed 29th Jul 2020 2:39pm)
  • Almost fell for that one as well while desperate. Thankfully my common sense tingles when someone is actively trying to hire me and trying to sell me a job. by kingofskullisland (Fri 14th Aug 2020 5:59pm)
  • Can confirm. The main reason I stopped going to pubs, is because it is virtually impossible for me to be part of a conversation. Saw no point in paying 4-5 quid for a pint and sit in the equivalent of a giant white noise machine. by kingofskullisland (Mon 17th Aug 2020 8:11am)
  • The abandoned dry docks on Govan Road (Where they filmed parts of 1917.) have been unlocked since the pandemic began. Seen a few people exploring about. by kingofskullisland (Mon 17th Aug 2020 8:30am)
  • Not that I'm happy to see these monstrosities pop up everywhere...But as long as they keep Airbnb users from buying up all residential properties I suppose I can tolerate it. by kingofskullisland (Thu 20th Aug 2020 5:25am)
  • I may be misunderstanding you, so please correct me if I am wrong, but wouldn't this be considered a building with a shared close? https://www.airbnb.co.uk/rooms/13361252?adults=1&location=Glasgow%2C%20United%20Kingdom&check_in=2020-08-27&check_out=2020-08-30&source_impression_id=p3_1597929703_ukOr%2FJjNOx1Oys9v There's several examples of this. I think people get away with it by just renting out a room in the flat. If I'm wrong, please correct me, as I'm curious as to what would be considered a shared close and what isn't. by kingofskullisland (Thu 20th Aug 2020 2:25pm)
  • I don't quite understand the difference, as the owner doesn't need to be present to let out a room apparently. So in theory they could own several flats, claim to alternate between them. Y'know, spend a few months a year in it, then just rent them out. That would be perfectly fine? I'm really just curious. This whole thing is a strikes a nerve with me, as I'm looking to buy next year and friends keep telling me about how people are just higher than asking prices, and then seeing the places on airbnb. by kingofskullisland (Thu 20th Aug 2020 2:46pm)
  • Taking the piss out of everything. by kingofskullisland (Tue 25th Aug 2020 8:57am)
  • Suppose it's about as dangerous as cycling. I wouldn't be too worried about the average motorist. It's the average sociopath Firstbus drivers I'd be worried about. Friend of mine was hit by a bus on Govan Road. The legal battle went on for a good 2-3 years. by kingofskullisland (Sat 29th Aug 2020 5:39pm)
  • None at all. I used to work in the Grosvenor building across Central and have the 1000 yard stare that tells people to not even bother talking to me. by kingofskullisland (Sun 27th Sep 2020 8:06pm)
  • I know that feeling. Am originally from Germany, but have been calling Glasgow my home for the last 5 years. It has its ups and downs, but this is home now and wouldn't want to live anywhere else. I can throw together a small album of pictures from around town if that'll cheer your mood. by kingofskullisland (Sun 27th Sep 2020 9:30pm)
  • Haven't been there in months, but last I saw it it was still there and working. by kingofskullisland (Fri 16th Oct 2020 10:59am)
  • And here I was thinking Wacken Open Air was relocating to Glasgow. Damn it. by kingofskullisland (Tue 3rd Nov 2020 7:51am)
  • Just avoid Ibrox Street. Elizabeth Street isn't great either, but at least the ground windows aren't directly at the sidewalk. Area offers good public transport and affordable living. by kingofskullisland (Mon 23rd Nov 2020 3:55pm)
  • I once took driving lessons with RED. Never been to Paisley before and they decided it'd be best if I drove through Paisley. Suppose you can give them a try. by kingofskullisland (Wed 25th Nov 2020 4:43pm)
  • It seems like the only thing working for the council is tax collection... Though I'm starting to wonder what that money is even used for. by kingofskullisland (Mon 7th Dec 2020 3:34pm)
  • I'm always how stark the difference is between a sunrise in Summer and a sunrise in Winter. Nice framing! by kingofskullisland (Mon 7th Dec 2020 3:50pm)
  • Amen. Starting to think they really see themselves as Gotham City, after parts of Batman were filmed here. by kingofskullisland (Mon 7th Dec 2020 3:58pm)
  • Been looking for one myself, though half heartedly. The Polish delis tend to have a lot of German stuff that often only has a Polish labelling on it. by kingofskullisland (Fri 11th Dec 2020 1:05pm)
  • I wouldn't mind it, if they actually introduced consequences for people breaching the rules. A lot of people have been doing their best to socially distance. But if you go into a supermarket, people will just cue a up a foot behind you and take their mask off to sneeze or cough. by kingofskullisland (Mon 4th Jan 2021 2:41pm)
  • Libraries still offer printing services, but I think they placed a limit on how much they'll print, and they no longer take cash. Had to print out some stuff when starting a new job and was not aware of the limitation, but they were nice enough to make an exception because I wasn't being a twat like some other people before me. by kingofskullisland (Wed 13th Jan 2021 7:36am)
  • Been constant fireworks over here in Ibrox from yesterday around noon. At this point I'm really hoping some limbs get lost in the process. by kingofskullisland (Sun 7th Mar 2021 4:24pm)
  • That was the best laugh I've had this early in the morning...ever. It's absolutely disgusting in some neighbourhoods. And ever since the protest at Ibrox stadium, there's been an influx of smaller groups walking about, drinking and tossing cans and bottles in front yards or just leaving them on the street. by kingofskullisland (Wed 17th Mar 2021 6:26am)
