  • Would get a puncture repair kit, portable pump and assorted tools. Defo a good idea to get a range of Allen keys. by minieggs321 (Wed 18th Nov 2020 6:00pm)
  • We stay in Anniesland and can vouch for Virgin. Haven't had any issues since installation other than every now and then the tv box can take a few minutes longer than usual to connect to internet. We get 100MBPS, basic TV package and phone line for £29.99 for 12Months. The price doubles at the end of the 12M if we don't negotiate a new deal so bear that in mind as you will likely get a new customer deal. I would also recommend that you take the account out yourself online and do not do it over the phone. I was browsing the website and it asked if I would like a call, I have worked in a call center so know the usual tricks. The call came through and I asked a few more questions and tried to see if I could get a better price. The guy was really pushy and frankly pretty rude so I told him I would just sort it myself online. I did this the next day, arranged a delivery date and installation date for the engineer and set up my direct debit agreement. A couple of hours later the same sales agent called me again and asked if I had made a decision yet. I explained I had set up my own account online and was all set. All of a sudden he said there had been an error with it and he had to confirm some of the details with me. I was a bit suspicious but I never thought the guy would so blatantly miss sell me! We ran through the package I was looking at again, he asked my delivery address etc again and my DD details. I did explain I had done this online myself the day before but he assured me that he was trying to help etc. Lo and behold my online order arrived and was installed with no hassle and a few days later another engineer showed up to install a bunch more stuff. Checked online and the sales guy had set up a 2nd account for me. Virgin were fairly quick and competent in dealing with it for me but was a reminder to not do anything over the phone. Hope this helps a little, the actual service is fine in our area but don't trust their sales staff. by minieggs321 (Tue 12th Jan 2021 12:46pm)
  • Hey, we had issues with our Council tax recently as well. They didn't reply to our emails and phone line said their contact center was done. [https://www.glasgow.gov.uk/counciltax](https://www.glasgow.gov.uk/counciltax) If you wait a minute on the bottom right of the page there should be a webchat option that pops up. We waited 10 minutes before speaking to someone, the issue was resolved in 10 minutes. by minieggs321 (Wed 13th Jan 2021 6:07pm)
  • Even if you don't have any bar experience you should be ok if you even have retail experience. If you do get a trial shift anywhere make sure to not stand about, always find something to do, ask questions and don't be on your phone. I second the comment about dressing the part, don't wear your suit but don't wear grubby trainers and a tracksuit. Just be casual if dropping off a cv somewhere. I know tenants used to do a training academy for people wanting to get into the trade. You could also see if you can get a personal licence, I got mine paid for using ITA funding. Not sure if that is still a thing though. That would mean the employer doesn't need to give you licencing training which is a bonus. Honestly though I would look elsewhere for now. It's a shit show and is going stay that way for a while yet. I have years of bar experience upto management level. Recently got made redundant from my office job so started in a new restaurant down the road as duty manager to tide me over. Worked 5 weeks, covid restrictions came in so we moved to takeaway only. If anything business was better than before but got an email 12hrs before my last shift telling me that for financial reasons my position as duty manager was no longer financially viable and I wouldn't be needed. Fairly certain they have broken the contract agreement that I signed and now the owner isn't responding to any emails. It's a familiar tale in this trade, dodgy owners screwing over their staff to save a quick buck. All you have to do is look at G1 and other establishments such as Blue Dog/Adlib who claimed furlough for their staff but fired them and kept the money. Good luck anyway! by minieggs321 (Thu 14th Jan 2021 5:13pm)
  • So not the exact same situation but me and my partner had an issue recently. She moved into our new flat on 1/6 and I moved in on 1/9. Council tax originally in her name and had it's own reference number. We received a revised payment schedule in October that included me. We never realised that the reference number had a single digit that was different and there were now two council tax accounts. Without realising it we were paying into both of them even though the old one should have technically been closed. We got the arrears letter saying we hadn't paid one month. Sent off the form and didn't get a response so we presumed GCC had made a mistake as we had paid accidentally to the wrong reference number. Last week got a letter from sherif court saying they would be seeking the money from us. Quick web chat and they were able to see what had happened and fix it within 15 mins and we had actually overpaid so our payment next month will be less. Webchat is defo the best way to get in touch with them. by minieggs321 (Mon 18th Jan 2021 2:04pm)
  • I've been doing a lot of driving due to work including down to Ayrshire from Glasgow and I haven't been stopped once. Haven't been to Edinburgh but would imagine you would be fine. Got asked where I was headed once when at Hyndland train station though but just told the Police I was headed to work and that was fine. If you believe it is a genuine emergency though please phone the Police rather than travel yourself. by minieggs321 (Fri 19th Feb 2021 1:31pm)

  • I was part time at Stereo before lockdown 1 shift a week on top of my Mon - Friday 9-5. At the very beginning the owner and management were very up front with us. They were paying us our usual contracted/average hours and then when furlough was announced they got it sorted quickly for everyone. I was made redundant from my full time job in December so took on another Hospitality job. Worked there 5 weeks and was reassured time and time again by the owner that my position was safe. Was let go 11 hours before the start of my next shift in breach of the contract I signed, the owner has since agreed to pay me a weeks notice pay so I'm not going to name them but it was pretty shady. Tldr; Stereo and associated bars (Mono, Flying Duck etc) are good guys, put the needs of staff first over profit and I fully intend to go back part time as soon as I can. Even if you aren't into vegan food don't let that put you off. by minieggs321 (Thu 25th Feb 2021 3:08pm)

I do not reccomend it haha by minieggs321 (Fri 5th Mar 2021 3:59pm)
  • Would personally avoid Countrywide as well. Rented from them a few years ago. "Modern" new development at Whitehill Place in Dennistoun. The flat was a joke but I was really limited in time so had to take it. Was £750/month for a flat that was furnished with just 2 bed frames and the cheapest ikea couch you can get. From when we moved in a February the heating just didn't work. Boiler sometimes gave hot water if we were lucky. Lost track of the amount of visits we had from engineers and it got so bad that when winter came again the flat was getting so cold and damp that mould was starting to grow inside it. Despite weekly emails and calls to them they did nothing and the boiler wasn't replaced until January by which point we had given our notice. They claimed they had trouble with the landlord getting permission. I checked the landlord register and there wasn't even one registered and when this was questioned I was given the address for a empty building in the Merchant City. Then when we moved out they tried to do me out my deposit claiming for things that weren't even present on the inventory when we moved in, they even tried to say I had stolen a tumble dryer that belonged to me. Had to take them to the deposit tribunal and even then they somehow still were allowed to keep some of my money. by minieggs321 (Fri 5th Mar 2021 3:55pm)
  • Sorry to hear that. There are quite a few Facebook pages in Glasgow specifically specifically 125cc bikes. Might be worth posting there. Also keep an eye on Facebook marketplace. I might be selling my 125cc scoot shortly so will send you a message if I do. by minieggs321 (Mon 15th Mar 2021 11:14pm)
  • Saddest part of all this is that it isn't just the usual suspects that have been doing things like this (G1 etc) it's so many well regarded places including independent venues. Even worse is that one look at a Glasgow Live article regarding these places opening (Central Hotel/The Ivy etc) shows comments letting people know what has happened to the staff but the majority of the commenters obviously couldn't give a damn where they spend their money. As long as they get a trendy instagram picture of their overpriced crap prosecco. by minieggs321 (Mon 26th Apr 2021 11:53am)
  • I mean, the measure of gin will be the same anywhere. One of the biggest spaces in town. Probably worth the wait. by minieggs321 (Sat 1st May 2021 3:56pm)
  • From what I can gather legislation in this country hasn't caught up so they are still illegal and you risk fine and points on your license if you have one if caught without insurance. Like most things Police are probably sound if you aren't taking the piss but all it takes is for someone to do something dangerous on one to bring it to an officers attention who might then pull you over on yours. Like drinking a couple of cans in the park, for the most part police might not bother you but if it's on the back of a sunny day in KG then it might be a different story. Probably not worth it until we catch up. by minieggs321 (Wed 19th May 2021 2:12pm)
  • I think so unless you had insurance for it. The only place you can legally ride one is on private land with landowners permission. by minieggs321 (Wed 19th May 2021 2:57pm)
  • We were at Chinaskis on Friday. Outside area is great and the service was really quick. by minieggs321 (Mon 31st May 2021 1:05pm)
  • My old moped, someone recommended them when I wanted a check up for peace of mind being new to bikes. Got charged £120 for an oil change, spark plug to be fitted and they had the bike for 5 days. Now I know a bit more and have a motorbike these are basic tasks you should know how to do yourself and can be done in minutes. Needed some work done on the ignition coils this weekend and being an electric task I wanted it done right. Big Al's Motorcycle Services came and picked up the bike yesterday and 3 hrs later had it ready for me to collect. £65 including pickup. by minieggs321 (Tue 1st Jun 2021 9:33am)

  • My bike went to whiteinch mot center today. They do cars as well. They don't do any servicing work and give a free second test if it fails do they've no reason to be dishonest. by minieggs321 (Thu 27th Jan 2022 12:33am)
  • Porter and Rye do a deal Tues to Thursday. Different each night. Was posted few weeks ago on their Instagram. by minieggs321 (Sun 27th Feb 2022 12:45pm)
  • What do you want to know? by minieggs321 (Thu 12th May 2022 4:07pm)
  • I would've said Porter and Rye hands down however just don't feel it's value for money any more. I know steaks are seen as a premium option but having gone for years I've noticed the standards drop. Used to be there would be a small starter of breads and butters given on the house which stopped a couple of years ago. Then I noticed that your steak now no longer comes with a side and a sauce like it used to. These now cost extra. Went to Miller and Carter couple of weeks ago and it was great but was about £13 cheaper per person. by minieggs321 (Thu 13th Oct 2022 11:31am)
  • Totally unsubstantiated but heard a strong rumor that Kothel's owners are involved in Human Trafficking haha. That combined with the shitty way they treated staff over lockdown should make you never wanna go back. by minieggs321 (Fri 4th Nov 2022 11:56am)
  • Tiny wee place in Anniesland called The Kitchen. Easy to miss but it's just on crow road past the Morrisons. by minieggs321 (Sat 19th Nov 2022 1:12pm)
  • Look at the vegan bars. Stereo, mono, the 78, old hair dressers, flying duck. Worked at Stereo for a bit and was surprised at how well we were treated. Pay above living wage, pay went up a bit past 12am when working late and the real perk, a free taxi home if working past 12am. by minieggs321 (Mon 21st Nov 2022 4:48pm)

  • As fate would have it I've just returned a friend's acoustic and it's now got a couple of wee dings on the body. You think that would be something you could repair? Can forward some pictures if needed. No cracks that I can see. by minieggs321 (Mon 20th Mar 2023 1:57pm)
  • Hey, I've two indoor rabbits, one of which is prone to stasis. I've had no issues going to the emergency vet at Charing Cross before. Not sure if you've reached out to them. by minieggs321 (Thu 25th May 2023 2:46pm)
