  • I live in Scotland now but lived in a predominantly black area of east London a good few years ago. It was a stones throw from where the riots started. I worked in the centre of London and was working night shift that week and had to get the tube. It was dark already and raining, so I was power walking up the street, hands in pockets, hood pulled over my face. A policeman on the other side of the road shouted “STAY RIGHT WHERE YOU ARE”, I looked up slightly and saw two cops crossing the road and fanning out, so one was in front of me and one was moving round to my rear. First cop shouted “PULL YOUR HOOD DOWN SLOWLY”, so I did. He was quite close by now and I could see the confusion on his face that I was, well, white. They asked me quite aggressively what I was doing there, I told them, they took my name and postcode and called in my details on their radio, while the other cop gave me a patting down. I didn’t have a record so first cop gruffly said “right you can go”. To which I said, “where’s my receipt?”. One of them rolled their eyes and scribbled something on a little form they had and gave it to me, I wasn’t late for work anyway so I just threw it in the bin. They never told me why they were stopping me (I suspect it’s because they just like stopping people in black areas), why they searched me (in hindsight they probably thought maybe I was a drug dealer) and they didn’t offer me a receipt of a stop and search which I’m pretty sure they have to. So yeh those two were dicks. Sorry for the boring story. by seefroo (Mon 27th Jul 2020 4:04pm)
  • They didn’t ask or tell me anything along those lines, and even more strangely they didn’t ask me (a person who lived locally and with a clean criminal record, if that’s relevant) if I’d seen anyone matching anyone’s description or seen anyone/anything suspicious. You would think that if they were looking for someone on that street then they may ask the only person currently on that street, would you not? by seefroo (Mon 27th Jul 2020 8:52pm)
  • You asked me a question which i politely answered. Answering my question with questions doesn’t really help here. Having said that, I’ll still politely answer yours: 1) I don’t know what they were doing, except that they did it aggressively when it could have been done with a bit more tact. Obviously moving towards me is necessary if they thought I may have posed a risk/may have run, but screaming at someone to stay where they are is just...rude. 2) I didn’t say he was confused, I said he was surprised. And in that part of London? Yeh lol Look I can see the angle you’re going for here but I’m not saying these particular police were institutionally racist or that they were out to rough up a black guy, I’m saying that this one was a prick. And in community policing it’s policing by consent, so if you’re rude to the community they simply aren’t going to help you when you do need intel in the future. I only asked him for a receipt because he was a knob and I knew he couldn’t say no. If it had been “Excuse me, just stay there please, just need a quick chat”, and then “we’re looking for a black man of about your height, wearing a hoodie, he attacked someone about an hour ago”, then I’d have been more than happy to help. But he didn’t act like that and didn’t ask me about the black man wearing a hoodie covered in blood who had just run past me, so I didn’t tell him.... by seefroo (Mon 27th Jul 2020 9:12pm)

  • Damn I never saw your original post, I live within sight of the Conic! Primrose Hill at Loch Katrine is a similar walk but further north so slightly different scenery. And of course there’s Ben Lomond. by seefroo (Mon 19th Oct 2020 10:19pm)

  • I think the hill is the best clue to be honest. If you go [here](https://maps.app.goo.gl/EkpSG8J9JaM4MB2K8) you can just make out a hill which is now obscured by buildings. The rest of the street doesn't match but I've spent an hour on this and that's the closest to that bloody hill I can find!!!! by seefroo (Tue 30th Mar 2021 4:19pm)
  • I have the photo open on my phone and am flicking between google maps and earth on my tablet, I can’t stop, I must know OP - do you know anything else at all? Even about the people - something on google said that in the olden days middle classes tended to live in the south and west, working classes in the north and east (which still makes some sense, but presumably would have been more pronounced back then). by seefroo (Tue 30th Mar 2021 4:26pm)
  • If it is Pollockshaws then most of it was demolished and rebuilt in the 70s - 1600 out of 1800 houses were replaced. So it’ll look completely different today. by seefroo (Tue 30th Mar 2021 6:12pm)
  • Some burger place came up on my Facebook a week or so ago, I looked into it and apparently they were moving around once a month or so. Presumably using existing kitchens. Bizarre business model but if it works it works. by seefroo (Tue 30th Mar 2021 6:16pm)
  • For some reason when I open your link it doesn’t show me a compass. Can’t seem to open it in google maps app, just the desktop version. Anyway assuming it’s facing east then [the topographical map](https://ibb.co/x86tsr3) doesn’t show any hills within what I would have thought is eye distance. Even if it’s west facing it’s the same story. @ u/longlostpenpal44 do you know anything else about the people in the pic? Does seem like if we can find their names we can narrow it down - assuming the photo was taken anywhere close to where they live! by seefroo (Tue 30th Mar 2021 11:08pm)
  • The tenements in the photo just seem a bit too fancy compared to the video. Plus, the hill looks too close in the photo - it would have to be north of the Clyde and the river itself is probably 1.5-2km wide at that point, and that’s before you’ve even got to the hill itself.... I fear we shall never find the answer!! by seefroo (Tue 30th Mar 2021 11:59pm)
  • Is the hill in your street view pic the same as the one in the video of old pics of port glasgow?? (Don’t know if that was you who posted that video sorry?) by seefroo (Wed 31st Mar 2021 12:12am)
  • What I’m suddenly thinking here is that the hill in your street view doesn’t look quite right but *does* look like the right height - heights, or more importantly prominences, of hills in and around glasgow are very well documented. Identify the hill and it’s prominence and if I’m right we can start looking for areas with tenements within view of hills of similar prominence. **if** I’m right by seefroo (Wed 31st Mar 2021 12:19am)
  • I got mine with less than seven days notice and was scheduled to work. I went onto the website to try to reschedule but there were no more appointments. I don’t think there was a “cancel appointment” button so I couldn’t just cancel and rebook myself later on. I just told my work I was going to get it so wouldn’t be in and that was that, but some people might have arsehole bosses or just not want to ask for the day off. That maybe explains at least some of the missed appointments as well as the letter thing. by seefroo (Tue 25th May 2021 7:26pm)

  • Trouble with the Conic is its a nightmare to walk down in the dark. There's a viewpoint in Drymen right [here](https://goo.gl/maps/fws7VkFXuPVdSBAm6), it's not very obvious but its a little hill and it faces directly west. The view is of Loch Lomond and you can see the islands in it, you can see Ben Lomond towering above the whole thing too. And then you've got a few places to stay in Dyrmen if that's going to be a thing, or go to the Clachan for dinner (oldest licensed pub in Scotland, you will need to book). by seefroo (Mon 5th Jul 2021 2:46pm)

  • They do those little packets now that have a thing of biscoffi spread and some little breadsticks you can dip in it. They’re a bit pricey in my local shop, but you could, and I’m only saying you could do this, you don’t have to but you could if you really wanted, buy a jar of biscoffi spread and a box of breadsticks and make a jumbo version. Not that I’ve ever done that of course, or am doing it right now, I’m just saying you could theoretically do this. by seefroo (Tue 5th Oct 2021 3:43pm)

  • The ‘fake meat’ alternatives are more expensive because of lack of competition. Now that competition is ramping up quite rapidly the prices are going the same way. Co-op announced a few months ago that they’ll be moving the prices of their products on that range to comparable prices to equivalent meat products, and Tesco slashed their Plant Chef prices last week. It’s pretty much assured that the others will be following suit. The cheapest crappy meat sausages at Tesco are admittedly still much cheaper than the cheapest crappy non-meat sausages, although it does maybe depend how you look at it - the latter have higher fibre, higher protein and less saturated fat. The sausages on the next higher ranges are now much better aligned - £3.85/kg to £4.15/kg, only about 8% more expensive. Whilst I admit thats still a relatively big difference I wouldn’t be surprised to see them at parity once the other supermarkets realise they might be losing market share. by seefroo (Tue 2nd Nov 2021 5:40am)

  • It’s like it had been starting to desolidify rapidly under the extreme pressure it must have been under as i clenched my teeth and thought of Nick Hancock on that celebrity jungle thing or Scotlands first half performance last night, any sort of shite really apart from my own shite But when I finally reached the porcelain throne it blasted out with all of it’s might, the sort of disgusting stinky porridge shite first, blasting itself into the water like a disintegrating meteor into Loch Lomond. But then the perfectly formed twelve incher curled itself out majestically, proudly resting itself on the vile mess I had just created, as I grimaced, tearing the toilet roll holder off the wall and slamming my head against the tiles A smaller eight incher curled itself out afterwards, and then a little four incher fell through my gaping rim, barely even brushing the sides After I had stopped screaming, I heard a child crying in the distance as a dog howled towards the moon 8.5/10, pretty good but had better by seefroo (Thu 17th Nov 2022 7:35pm)

  • I don’t remember any celebratory parties for any other person resigning And just to be really really clear here - the leader has resigned but the party is still in power. The problem is that some people think that modern democracy actually is some sort of “leader rules by decree” thing and that anything will actually change, which it won’t, because the political landscape hasn’t changed at all. This isn’t celebrating the Conservatives/Labour/etc losing power, this is celebrating an administrative change. Absolutely mind boggling. by seefroo (Wed 15th Feb 2023 8:27pm)
  • Political protesting works when there is a clear objective and everyone is working together to convince politicians, the press and the general public of that objective with the eventual aim of actually achieving it. This “protest” (it’s not a protest) fails on the first step of the above. George Square is big and central, within walking distance of four train stations, and is admittedly named after the first King of Great Britain, so if you want to wave Union flags around you might as well do it there. by seefroo (Wed 15th Feb 2023 8:36pm)
  • Mate of mine has just told me to lump on betting on a GENERAL election this year because apparently Sturgeon resigning forces that (for info for anyone who doesn’t know: this doesn’t even force a by election, let alone Scottish and definitely not General). I told him he’d have to remember to take photo ID to vote as that’s a thing now, this is of course the SNPs fault somehow by seefroo (Wed 15th Feb 2023 10:17pm)
  • An interesting hypothetical, but in your situation an SNP faction could elect their own nominee (who isn’t the SNP leader) as First Minister. If Labour vote for their option, the Conservatives for theirs etc, then “only” 32 of 64 SNP members need to vote for their option to outvote the Conservatives and win. Only if the Conservatives, Labour, Lib Dem’s and Greens join forces can they outvote the SNP, and ironically the deciding vote would come down to....Nicola Sturgeon MSP, who is presumably (but who knows, it’s a hypothetical!) going to vote for the Parliamentary SNPs nominee. To your last bit...yes. He thinks the Scottish Government is independent in all but name already. He’s still raging that Sturgeon didn’t sack that SNP MP who went on the train to London with covid, despite me telling him that she (well the SNP) chucked her out the party, but nobody can remove an MP until an election as they’re elected by their constituents. But apparently Sturgeon stopped the Queen from doing it or something. I try not to take much notice to be honest. by seefroo (Wed 15th Feb 2023 11:14pm)
  • Sturgeon has only announced her resignation but under Scottish Parliament rules she hasn’t officially resigned until the moment another FM is elected Which means *there’s still time for her to meet another PM* by seefroo (Wed 15th Feb 2023 11:24pm)
  • Scotland will now not be going “petrol free” by 2030. Westminsters timetable for banning sales of NEW petrol/diesel vehicles is 2030, which is a policy Scotland has no choice but to follow. Infact there was brief (and admittedly later discredited) talk that Scotland might try and push this back to 2032. There was no talk of banning them entirely, except maybe in some bizarre local Green fringe factions, and even then I doubt it. It’s a self fulfilling one of course, because when it’s clarified that petrol vehicles won’t be banned in 2023 (because they were never going to be) then that’ll be because of Sturgeons resignation. There’s also plenty of stuff about the bottle deposit scheme which is apparently apocalyptic. by seefroo (Wed 15th Feb 2023 11:43pm)
