  • I was in that KFC on the first day of re-opening and it was pretty chaotic. The two order kiosks, the mainpiece of the renovation, were not working. The juice was being poured into cups from bottles. The staff were overwhelmed as the renovators were asking them stuff and they were trying to take orders at the same time. Hopefully those teething problems will sort themselves out though by zebradee (Sat 9th Feb 2019 2:41am)
  • Its quite nice inside and the downstairs outside bit is pretty modern. Whereas The Courtyard was a bit old man-ish, Cul Cuil is a more young working professional type of an outfit. £5 for a pint of Heineken though and Lagunitas is available on tap, for like £6 I believe. Think it means "go in, go out" or something along those lines by zebradee (Fri 22nd Feb 2019 3:21am)

  • If shes already used to commuting 3 hours a day then you should definitely choose Glasgow centre. A lot of the time people aren't aware of the commitment when they say they'll be OK with commuting x hours each and every day to get to work/uni and can burn out quickly, but since shes already been doing it she knows what shes getting herself in for. I'm from Glasgow and live in the centre and I would not be upping sticks to live in Stirling if given the choice by zebradee (Fri 15th Mar 2019 2:19am)
  • Yiamas for the Gyros are hard to beat, priced incredibly well too. Doner Haus for the German Doner Kebab style, however its sit in only and prices are what you would expect in a sit-in restaurant. Babylon and Shawarma King for the Shawarma style kebabs by zebradee (Tue 19th Mar 2019 3:29am)

  • As someone who sometimes cant be arsed cooking and likes takeaways but on a budget - as long as you're not too specific on what you want then there are places who offer A) cheap (relative to eating out prices) food B) free delivery C) no minimum order value. As you can imagine, not every establishment is tripping over themselves to tick all three of those boxes but there are some that do and I've always enjoyed the food. AFAIK they do bar swaps, where one set of bar staff can swap places with another set of bar staff in the country (abroad too?) and they organise a big party annually for all their staff and send them down to Manchester or somewhere for the day. James Watt is still insufferable though by zebradee (Tue 16th Jul 2019 8:08am)

  • They are there but their souvlaki wrap is £6 and you don't get much for your money. If you're heading to the market just for the gyro then you're better off at Yiamas, who'll serve you a gyro 2-3 times the size and for not much more; the meat and bread are much better quality and the chips are homemade and seasoned. Can ye tell Im choking for a gyro from Yiamas? by zebradee (Sun 17th Nov 2019 7:40pm)
  • What sort of cafe? I didnt realise that this was an issue - if you mean smaller, informal dining places (lets say Partick Duck Club as an example) I can't say I've ever had any issues and I dine out at these places maybe 2 times week on average by zebradee (Tue 3rd Dec 2019 12:22pm)

  • Are you looking for ideas on how to be entrepreneurial (if so then I guess everyone is) or a way to make a few extra bucks? If the latter then without a car I guess your best option is Deliveroo, otherwise you'd need to just find shifts at bars and takeaways/restaurants? Uber, delivery driver, Amazon courier etc are all the sweet gigs that you work as you wish but all require a car. Otherwise you can buy and sell things on eBay by zebradee (Fri 3rd Jan 2020 11:40pm)

  • Max's Bar and La Cheetah (club), Berkeley Suite (club) , Brewdog bars are OK but a bit overpriced for what you get, Drygate (microbrewery) is a decent bar, Howling Wolf has a good atmosphere and is a jazz bar that's open til 3AM (one of the few bars that is open so late, only nightclubs tend to operate until late), Nice n Sleazys, Slouch (sister bar to Howling Wolf but with mixed music and with a stage for live bands, also open til 3am). There's a lot of choice in the centre area really, within a relatively small area (can walk it all in like 20 mins) you will find cheap places, high end places, beer places, cocktail places, street food eateries, fine dining places. I guess what Im saying is that the centre is not a sprawling area, everything is condensed into a night out manageable without taxi's. by zebradee (Wed 8th Jan 2020 4:13am)
  • Counting calories using an app like MyFitnessPal really helps - you need to be disciplined with it though and put EVERYTHING you eat/drink through the day into it. Helps mentally as you can see when you're approaching your recommended daily calorific intake and should slow down. Eventually it'll create a mental barrier, that'll make you conscious of the calories you are consuming by zebradee (Wed 8th Jan 2020 4:16am)

  • Probably best to avoid Sauchiehall Street at night, large crowds amass there and while there not be a higher rate of incidents there I guess just by sheer numbers of having so many people in a small place that there might be some malicious actors amongst them. Some guy did pull a gun on a bouncer a while ago there lol Avoid taking shortcuts through any of the lanes, they are not well lit and people might lurk there and be hard to spot by zebradee (Sun 9th Feb 2020 9:41am)
  • Koelschip Yard in the southside, if not on tap then they will definitely have some bottles in their fridges. Brewdog Doghouse in the Merchant City is probably your best bet in the centre area by zebradee (Tue 11th Feb 2020 1:54pm)
  • You could rent a single room in a cheap hotel/airbnb/hostel when you arrive and then start searching for flatshares, once you find one of a desirable description you can go and meet your potential flatmates to see if you would be happy to live with them. I have not rented in a long time but I guess meeting people you'd potentially be spending a lot of time with in close quarters would not be weird or unreasonable before committing to anything. by zebradee (Tue 11th Feb 2020 7:28pm)

  • That's what I thought too. Had a looking for Carrington Street on gmaps and it's a wee side street. I guess the victim left with this American lassie, went down that street after partying somewhere (says early hours in the article), was somehow attacked and maybe ashamed to report it. I'm making morbid assumptions but I don't think it was a robbery, since you'd report that shit right away. by zebradee (Wed 12th Feb 2020 4:31pm)

  • Were there any pictures to accompany the words? Could be some advice for people travelling between China and the UK with regards to corona virus. As already mentioned there is a large student population but also there is a workforce/relatives of students here who might not be as able to speak English as the students themselves. Either way I know that my attention could be captured if I caught a glimpse of an advertisement entirely in Chinese (if I were Chinese) here in Glasgow so I'd be enticed to read what it says by zebradee (Wed 11th Mar 2020 12:46pm)

  • The sum of history is a balance of good and bad. Why should we remember only the good things? The fact that people are upset now by this, people who weren't there and were not directly touched by the actions that happened before they were even born, shows that what these street names have done is keep afloat the memory of the atrocities that happened back then and that will benefit us moving forward in the future. If we delete, then we forget and then the cycle restarts by zebradee (Tue 2nd Jun 2020 2:12pm)

  • I'd recommend booking into a council operated MOT centre as they have no incentive to pick up on bits which are passable but some private garages might choose to fail you on to get some business out of you, as they generally are only testing centre and not repair shops. Disclaimer: I'm not sure where or if there is such a centre in Glasgow, the last time I had a car was when I lived in Aberdeen but I got my MOT done there at one of the centres I described by zebradee (Mon 3rd Aug 2020 10:16am)
  • Football tickets for either Celtic or Rangers games will range from £25 to £50 depending on the game. If its not a big game the tickets will be cheaper. A ticket to a Celtic v Rangers game will only really be obtainable from either someone you know who has a spare ticket or from someone selling their ticket either outside the stadium or online on a forum by zebradee (Mon 3rd Aug 2020 10:28am)

  • I understand why its frustrating but its not surprising, during the first lockdown there was tons of cunts drinking in parks or outside the pubs that were doing takeaway pints and the police did nothing. Maybe they were even instructed to turn a blind eye so long as there was no trouble. by zebradee (Sun 27th Sep 2020 9:36am)
  • Some places sell food so cheap, plus the app takes 30% off their sales, that you wonder how they could possibly make any money yet they somehow survive. Compare that to a big fast food chain, who sell their food at the lowest possible price to make a profit and theyre more expensive than this local Glasgow chain by zebradee (Sat 10th Oct 2020 10:13am)
  • I've wondered how the delivery drivers rate is set - I take it the delivery fee that users see on the app is not what the driver will get paid? Some places do free delivery so I wondered where the money for the driver comes from, is it taken from the cost of the meal? by zebradee (Fri 16th Oct 2020 12:00pm)

  • although it doesn't conform to the typical "Asian street food vendor" image, to me the chippy is the Scottish equivalent. Can be eaten on the go, is generally quickly made and probably greasy, can be eaten after pubbing/clubbing on the way home and is synonymous with helping to soak up a belly full of booze. The humble chips cheese and curry, cant beat it by zebradee (Sun 1st May 2022 12:05pm)
  • I guess everywhere will be busy and some places ticket only. The Auctioneer, the Maltman, Oswalds are a few city centre suggestions. Over in PRW the Rangers pubs will show it I imagine. Hopefully a fan zone will come to fruition by zebradee (Wed 11th May 2022 11:28am)

  • The London route might be quite busy as it's a business route, especially during that hour (arrives in London early for meetings). I assume since you've got a connecting long haul flight you'll be checking a bag in at Glasgow and that's where most of your time will be taken up. I've been in similar scenario before - fly to London then connect for long haul; turned up 1.5hr early only to be queued out right to the far side towards the international arrivals area. They were quite switched on tho and since there was people checking in to BA for various flights taking off within 30-1 hour from each other, they shuttled all the earliest take-off to the front of the check-in desk to get them up to security by zebradee (Tue 20th Dec 2022 8:00pm)

  • You can get in by train and subway, the bus would involve a short walk. Would rather "suffer" 10 days of inconvenience in turn to be able to host a world event. If this event was hosted in Edinburgh or London, they'd still have to close city centre roads off. It's not just because its Glasgow by zebradee (Sat 5th Aug 2023 3:47pm)
  • I would argue that the disruption isn't that huge - if you are a local then how are you struggling to get in? It's only closed to car traffic. I see Tantrum could not get stock in yesterday but are back open today, so clearly first day teething problems have been resolved. I see most other businesses are fully operational today by zebradee (Sat 5th Aug 2023 4:07pm)
  • Totally agree - I'd rather we cut the number of cars on the roads in the centre. There are situation where people require a car to get into town - disability car, moving into a property, doing a huge shop, but if you just want to come in to go to a cafe then Glasgow must be the best connected city in Scotland for public transport.
