  • Any time one of these fuckwits tries to chat shit to you, you could just claim that the sound waves coming from them are untested radiation dangerous to humans and you'd actually be more accurate than them. by BusShelter (Wed 8th Apr 2020 2:24pm)

  • Completely by accident at first, of course. Wasn't able to stay in the sky like that EZgame cone though. No idea how that worked. by BusShelter (Tue 14th Apr 2020 10:42pm)
  • I guess I'm wooshed because I've not a clue if your referencing something. by BusShelter (Mon 20th Apr 2020 10:24pm)
  • Actually wish I could go up town and see what the place is like these days with the lockdown. Particularly since it almost seems busier here because everyone and their dogs have been out for walks every day, seen loads of new faces. by BusShelter (Tue 28th Apr 2020 1:03pm)
  • I've not made the switch to beans yet, but even having a proper machine to use with ground espresso packs is still miles better than instant. Must say I've taken my machine for granted the last few weeks. by BusShelter (Fri 1st May 2020 1:56pm)

  • I don't think you can equate people being concerned about the risk to the lives of loved ones to believing it's a "world ending crisis". If there is a way we can prevent more people from dying, should that not be attempted? by BusShelter (Mon 8th Jun 2020 5:03pm)
  • Feel like it would be better trying to cause division between them, they're all desperate for a fight so getting them to fight each other over something nonsense should be doable. There's already bound to be loads of conspiracy theorists amongst them, just need to find conflicts between different ones. by BusShelter (Sun 14th Jun 2020 7:57pm)

  • > I'm a Rangers fan who point blank refuses to go to games lest i become a cunt like most of them. I don't know how many times the discussion needs to be had. Even a vocal minority of bigots is too many of course, but it is not *most of them*. by BusShelter (Mon 15th Jun 2020 2:32pm)
  • Yeah, I understand that I think. People aren't confident enough to speak out. Everyone Anyone needs to get a big push imo, but even that'll be gradual. by BusShelter (Mon 15th Jun 2020 5:10pm)
  • Yeah, I'm not a fan of the orange either, although it's a shame we can't wear a certain colour without the association since the leaked new third kit looks nice (black and orange). Didn't really like the orange Hummel kit. But it doesn't help that the colour has long been associated with Protestantism and sectarianism before the club existed. Same goes for sashes. I'd rather stick to blues, white, red and black. Tbh I'm surprised we've never had an AC Milan style away kit, and I quite liked the [Atletico](https://i.ebayimg.com/thumbs/images/g/J-gAAOSwQLVd97iV/s-l225.jpg) and [Utrecht](https://d2h1pu99sxkfvn.cloudfront.net/b0/7676183/486539023_ULIH8wlf6m/P0.jpg) style red and white kits. by BusShelter (Mon 15th Jun 2020 6:05pm)
  • Huh. That didn't even register - although the kit isn't half and half, it's mostly dark grey (anthracite) with orange detailing - but I take your point. by BusShelter (Mon 15th Jun 2020 8:59pm)
  • Probably an oversimplification that though. There were previous peaks in the test numbers without the same level of spike in positive cases. [Stats available here](https://www.gov.scot/publications/coronavirus-covid-19-trends-in-daily-data/) by BusShelter (Tue 1st Sep 2020 7:26pm)
  • Schools are closed for a week anyway, with parents already having notice and so the ability to arrange child care. Issue with closing schools is that many kids end up at their grandparents', who are more vulnerable. by BusShelter (Thu 8th Oct 2020 10:21am)
  • The virus running out of control and occupying hospitals will have an impact on all illnesses. It's no use separating your two figures, lockdown deaths *are* virus deaths, and the important part is that letting the virus spread would cause more in the immediate short term, and cause a larger impact on the economy long term as well. by BusShelter (Thu 8th Oct 2020 10:27am)
  • Isn't it possible that even though a 2 week break may look like it'll destroy many businesses, letting the virus continue without that break would lead to an even more significant hit to the industry? Particularly with the furlough scheme ending soon. by BusShelter (Thu 8th Oct 2020 11:51am)
  • > Last time I checked the hospitality industry wasn't predominantly used by, nor a significant employer to, the vulnerable and elderly. Perhaps not (although plenty in the ages of 40-60 are pub regulars, restaurant goers) but it still provides the opportunity for the virus to spread among those who are involved in it. We need to stop looking at it as something that the non-vulnerable are near immune from, it can really affect even young people and other working age people. Yes, there is a balance to be had, and as hard as it is to predict, I personally don't think this 2 week tightening of restrictions is too far one way or the other. I'm pretty content to listen to the medical/scientific advice here. by BusShelter (Thu 8th Oct 2020 3:43pm)
  • What on earth is that syntax? by BusShelter (Mon 19th Oct 2020 2:57pm)
  • I genuinely once witnessed a fight break out on the 2 because a guy at the back playing music on his phone didn't have any Gary McF. by BusShelter (Sun 15th Nov 2020 10:38am)
  • I haven't been up the town since March, but since people are saying it was terrible even before then, I must say I'd never had that impression. I mean yeah Central has had some homelessness issues but I haven't noticed any difference over the last decade. Maybe I've just been lucky but never have I been hassled or intimidated in any part of the centre. by BusShelter (Sun 22nd Nov 2020 2:56pm)
  • Unfortunately within the last year we've seen plenty of examples that this isn't the case in reality. by BusShelter (Mon 8th Mar 2021 2:09pm)
  • Aye, and it didn't even cross my mind that going out to Ibrox or the city centre would be remotely acceptable. Hell I'm getting pissed at the fireworks cause I've got a dog who hates it. But that's still miles better than gathering, not to mention wrecking George Square. by BusShelter (Mon 8th Mar 2021 2:24pm)
  • I do wonder what the sort of critical mass of cretins there would be among a massive crowd. There must be a whole host of things someone can analyse, maybe there's a massive case of the bystander effect in play. by BusShelter (Sun 16th May 2021 2:04am)
  • > What they’ll tell you is the people singing those disgusting songs yesterday were different people to the ones being outraged at the racial abuse of their player. Which isn't necessarily wrong. There'll be an overlap but it's not like it's all the same people. That'd be like saying all SNP members and supporters are bigoted anti-trans campaigners. "Not real fans" is a bit of a cop-out. What that has been shifting to is "not people we want involved with our club", the club themselves are progressing with the Everyone, Anyone campaign but imo there needs to be more. by BusShelter (Sun 16th May 2021 3:18pm)
  • > It's not about what's right or wrong or what's "fair", it's about what works. Because it'd be absolutely moronic and probably wouldn't stand up to a decent legal defence about the liability of the club, and how much influence it has over its supporters. It's not even like it's employees who are representatives of the club. You see people get fired from work due to personal social media posts - that itself is probably a bit questionable ethically - and if the staff from your local Asda all went on a night out and smashed the place the company could probably sack them all. Can that really be extended to people who aren't officially affiliated with the club? by BusShelter (Sun 16th May 2021 3:34pm)
  • Why do people support their local community? The residents are not the same residents as before. The shop owners are different. Their patrons are different. Sure, some of the patrons are pricks I don't get along with, doesn't mean I won't support the shop keepers and everyone else in the community. by BusShelter (Mon 17th May 2021 11:33am)
  • Maybe there are models based on population density, since Glasgow's is 5-6 times more? East Ren only has ~100k population and has a higher proportion more likely to be fully vaccinated. IDK, I think it's likely to be more complicated than just basing everything entirely on case rates. by BusShelter (Sun 23rd May 2021 6:56pm)
  • Yeah I tried that but got a password reset error, phoned the support line and was about 200 in the queue. Just a bit shit. by BusShelter (Fri 28th May 2021 5:52pm)
  • There's always been a caveat in the restrictions that you can go for groceries and essentials that are close-by, even if they're in another council area. You've not been breaking any law by doing that. by BusShelter (Fri 28th May 2021 5:56pm)
  • Ooft, didn't mind the joke personally by BusShelter (Fri 2nd Jul 2021 12:42am)
  • I'm confused, in your previous comment, didn't you imply that the "less educated" tried to adapt their accent because of a sort of insecurity? Then here you've suggested that going to university means you're more likely to adapt your accent? Not that going to uni is some failsafe proof of intelligence, particularly social, although exposure to a wide variety of accents must have an impact. I can't say I've ever met anyone pretending to have another accent in every day life, it's more just them trying to be understood. by BusShelter (Sat 24th Jul 2021 9:09pm)
  • I'm not sure which is RP tbh but I don't think of the same accent when I imagine "BBC English" and "posh Tories". At least, the news anchors have quite nondescript accents compared to Etonians. I'm guessing modern reporters tend to sound more modern and metropolitan than plain old RP. by BusShelter (Sat 24th Jul 2021 9:12pm)
  • > The last straw was him trying to hit that long "whooooaaaah ohhh ohhh ohhb" in "with or without you" by U2 You could say that tipped you over the edge. by BusShelter (Fri 30th Jul 2021 10:56am)
  • I don't mean to diminish any of that, honestly, and I'm not excusing the behaviour of course, but a lot of what you're describing isn't unique to Glasgow at all. It's not necessarily even football related either. Drunken louts bothering others happens in every major city from Rosario to Istanbul. Personally saw that in Rotterdam, Lisbon, Dublin, London and probably others. The sectarianism is particularly bad here and more should be done but it is slowly improving. Again, it's shit that you and your girlfriend experienced that, I know. by BusShelter (Sun 1st Aug 2021 11:21am)
  • Tbf that's still all anecdotal, and Eastern Europe is rather large and diverse to say the least. Moscow will feel very different from Brno for example. Many city centres across the globe have areas and times to avoid. Though I think we can have a slightly warped perspective because we're familiar with Glasgow and very used to knowing how to avoid things like that or even knowing how to deal with it, as opposed to being abroad. I think that inherently comes with an uneasy feeling of unfamiliarity so for example I've felt more unsafe in other cities when maybe I wouldn't have in Glasgow. by BusShelter (Sun 1st Aug 2021 2:14pm)
  • Yeah I caught the news segment about this the other day, it's a shortage across the UK because of increased demand. by BusShelter (Thu 30th Dec 2021 11:52am)
  • Surely *quarter to* is before it rather than behind? by BusShelter (Thu 10th Nov 2022 9:51am)
  • The back of = behind. Not before. You, the observer, are talking about a time in the future: Observer ........ 2.55 ........ 3 ........ 3.05 ........ etc What arrives after 3? by BusShelter (Thu 10th Nov 2022 10:07am)
  • Nah, back of = after because it's behind. If someone asks for directions to something on the street and you say "it's at the back of x" they're going to look behind or beyond x. Think of it as linear, 5.45 is before 6, so 6.15 is at the back of it. by BusShelter (Fri 27th Oct 2023 8:21pm)
  • Nah because you move forward in time, just like walking down a street. If you're at 4pm arranging something, and you're looking at 5pm and 6pm, anything in front of 6 is before it, anything beyond it is after it. At the back of is always beyond. by BusShelter (Fri 27th Oct 2023 8:49pm)
