  • The SNO is going to do a scifi concert later this month, it might be to do some promotion for it or something. by Eibi (Wed 16th Jan 2019 8:46am)
  • Wow, this piece has so many layers to it. by Eibi (Wed 17th Apr 2019 9:05am)
  • I agree, definitely could be better, but it is absolutely possible to cycle in Glasgow for the large majority of the year. To be honest the greatest danger for cyclists in Glasgow are the cars... by Eibi (Wed 15th May 2019 12:29pm)
  • I was in a building right next to the mail room that got evacuated when it happened, people were confused and maybe annoyed that they left their stuff inside, but nobody was scared. Tried going to a later class in an unevacuated part of campus but the lecturer cancelled because everybody took this as an opportunity to give themselves a day off. It was business as usual afterwards, so congratulations to the University and the city for not giving into fear and not turning the campus into a police state, I was a high-schooler in France when we were getting terrorist attacks left and right so I know what that looks like. by Eibi (Wed 29th May 2019 1:52pm)
  • Huh. I had no idea people had a problem with that. I cycle everyday for my commute, and I often do it on long stretches of straight road where I can go at a decent speed. I have excellent control of my bicycle, and stay vigilent and ready to grab the handles any second. As for why, I didn't realise it but /u/josephanthony's explanation is spot on, it really is a uniquely pleasant sensation. I hope I don't get downvoted for answering truthfully. In the city in France where I come from, a lot more people commute by bicycle everywhere and while not everybody does this, you will still routinely see people do this and people don't have a problem with it. This is why I was unaware of the hostility towards this behaviour. by Eibi (Fri 7th Jun 2019 9:19am)
  • It's alright. It's not separate enough from the pedestrian part though. I wish pedestrians could be more aware that they should avoid walking on it. I've started politely saying "excuse me" instead of swerving, hoping it'll help them realise. I hope all cyclists using it will take note that some sections of it have stoplights and pedestrian crossings as well and should be respected. by Eibi (Tue 17th Sep 2019 10:15pm)
  • Just before the aqueduct and the Maryhill locks? It has been lovely there the past few days. The one good thing about the cold. by Eibi (Tue 19th Nov 2019 6:07pm)
  • I moved to Glasgow from another country in 2016 after living in the same city my whole life. I love when I can tell at a glance exactly where a picture was taken, it makes me feel like I'm truly settled in :) by Eibi (Fri 29th Nov 2019 10:26am)
  • Me too please! by Eibi (Mon 20th Apr 2020 10:19am)

  • Absolutely, she's my favourite so far. by Eibi (Thu 28th Jan 2021 10:06pm)
  • I upvoted both of you when I saw the downvotes despite disagreeing. Those downvotes make no sense... by Eibi (Fri 29th Jan 2021 10:31am)
  • > it will feature a 1930s-style cocktail bar If the bar is meant to look like the renders in the article, I don't see anything 1930s about it... > complete with a never-tried-before self-service area I don't know what other people think but I wouldn't like a self-service area at all, if I am going to be serving myself I might as well do it at home, for much cheaper too. by Eibi (Wed 10th Feb 2021 2:35pm)
  • During my first year in Glasgow, coming from France, the state of public transports in Glasgow was one of my biggest culture shocks. I'm not saying it's prefect where I come from, but I was just very confused with the inconsistent pricing system, routes, numerous different companies, and the fact that there was no intermodality with the subway. I can very easily see how one would be put off from using it. by Eibi (Mon 3rd May 2021 2:32pm)
  • Hey, I came across this thread after googling how to recycle tetra paks in Glasgow, and I thought you might be interested to know that McQueens dairies now offer [oat milk in glass bottle](https://www.mcqueensdairies.co.uk/product/oat-milk-glass-bottles/) in their milk rounds, both an ethical milk alternative, and a way to support a local business! by Eibi (Fri 7th May 2021 1:29pm)
  • Well the bags aren't closed, and the council requires garden waste be bagged for uplift, I don't really have a choice here. Also as stated in the post, it's not because everybody's doing it that it's the right thing to do. by Eibi (Tue 13th Jul 2021 12:32pm)
  • Thanks, will have a look for this. by Eibi (Tue 13th Jul 2021 7:41pm)
  • Your welcome, at least I can let people know about this great initiative through this misadventure :) by Eibi (Tue 13th Jul 2021 7:49pm)
  • Yeah the Tool library is such a good idea, glad I can make people aware of it. by Eibi (Tue 13th Jul 2021 7:54pm)
  • I'm actually not aware of one in the South Side, so I don't know, hopefully not! by Eibi (Fri 3rd Jun 2022 7:39pm)
  • Just found their social media, looks like they're still active! I'm going to add them to the post. by Eibi (Fri 3rd Jun 2022 7:43pm)
  • You mean the South Side one? Their website says they're on Victoria Road. by Eibi (Fri 3rd Jun 2022 8:52pm)
  • I checked their inventory and it looks like they have step ladders and expanding ladders. You can look for yourself here: https://glasgowtoollibrary.com/borrow-tools/ (at the bottom of the page you can search the inventory) by Eibi (Fri 3rd Jun 2022 8:55pm)
  • It's up to 10 items I think. by Eibi (Sat 4th Jun 2022 7:33am)
  • Pretty sure yeah, I only learned about them because another commenter brought them up, but looking at their website it looks like it's the same. by Eibi (Sat 4th Jun 2022 3:55pm)
  • Since we're ranting about aggressive/dangerous behaviour, here's my one: at least once a week I have motorists at red lights inch forward into the cycle box when they see me approaching so that I can't go in it. It's not like they're there for cyclists' safety or anything... by Eibi (Wed 13th Jul 2022 7:34pm)
  • Thirded, used to work there, the bosses are nice and pay is good for a service job, in addition to the food being amazing. by Eibi (Mon 8th Aug 2022 8:31pm)

  • I joined a FB group called Potholes in and around Glasgow. It's...interesting sometimes. Although this city really needs to do something about the roads. by Eibi (Tue 8th Nov 2022 10:43pm)

  • That's the answer, I used to work at falafel 2 go, and in the city centre location there are 2 grills, which means that there can be up to 6 wraps in them at the same time, they need to stay in long enough for the wrap to get crispy, placing an upper limit on how fast they can be served. Additionally, people often order for groups, meaning for example, that if there is only two persons queuing in front of you when you order, it could be that the person making the wraps has to do 4-10 wraps before getting to you, if you're unlucky. by Eibi (Thu 17th Nov 2022 1:32pm)
  • I call the one at Anniesland Cross the Anniesland loch. by Eibi (Sat 19th Nov 2022 2:35pm)
  • Yeah I'm really surprised it isn't more popular here too, especially with the price of trains tickets. by Eibi (Mon 28th Nov 2022 12:23pm)
  • This may or may not be helpful to you but my current contract which is a standard Scottish Government Private Residential Tenancy Agreement, has this paragraph in it: > If you think that your tenancy was ended unlawfully (for example, the landlord served you with a notice to leave on the grounds that they intended to sell the property, but then they let it to another tenant), you can apply to the First-tier Tribunal for Scotland (Housing and Property Chamber). The Tribunal can award you up to six months' rent. Might be worth having a look at your old contract and consulting /r/LegalAdviceUK to see if there's anything there. by Eibi (Mon 12th Dec 2022 5:55pm)
  • To add to your comment and the one above, another important reason why a women might want an abortion is that she doesn't want a baby. That's it. The deeper reasons why, if there are any, is her concern only. She doesn't have to justify shit to anybody. Of course it's important to protect women who seek out abortions for the reasons you mentioned as it's trauma on top of trauma, but answering to the anti-choice people by justifying abortions using those reasons and examples is playing into their hand. A woman can have an abortion, because it's her body, her choice. That's it. by Eibi (Wed 28th Dec 2022 10:52pm)
  • I literally just moved to Dennistoun and tried to go there, I think the day after they announced their closure on facebook (obviously didn't know that at the time), so disappointed :( by Eibi (Tue 10th Jan 2023 1:49pm)
  • There's also [freecycle.org](https://www.freecycle.org) which /u/malstroem did not mention, and for borrowing, there's a really cool group which focuses on tools specifically called the [Glasgow Tool Library](https://glasgowtoollibrary.com/), which I like to give a shoutout to whenever I can :) by Eibi (Thu 26th Jan 2023 2:14pm)
  • There is [freecycle](https://www.freecycle.org) which does basically what OP described, I agree that the default to facebook is really annoying. by Eibi (Thu 26th Jan 2023 2:16pm)
  • Keeping cars out of the cycle lane is not about manpower, you need to do it properly in first place. It's a well known fact that cars **will** park in the cycle lane if you don't put some sort of physical separation between the lane and the road. Just painting the floor and hoping for the best won't cut it. Any new cycle lane built without any measure to physically keep the cars out of the cycle lane is a waste of money, and a danger to cyclists (swerving in and out of the cycle lane because of the parked cars: not fun). by Eibi (Fri 27th Jan 2023 8:37am)
  • Yeah, I'd like to have a stern chat with whoever decided to make the motorway cut THROUGH THE FUCKING CITY!? They're probably all dead now anyway. by Eibi (Fri 27th Jan 2023 8:41am)
  • Really? I've found the opposite, it's completely changed the way I behave when I want to cross, I can really see when I go back to my home town that drivers are mildly confused/annoyed when I don't cross when there's (from their perspective) plenty of time to cross and I don't, because I expect them to not see me, ignore me, or speed up. Same thing when I'm cycling, the hostility and impatience is palpable, when I first started cycling here it was fucking terrifying (still is sometimes). by Eibi (Fri 27th Jan 2023 8:46am)
  • Thank you! I was sure I caught a glimpse of one once in Dawsholme park and was very confused! by Eibi (Mon 6th Feb 2023 1:46pm)
  • Yeah, it's especially frustrating when it's the supposedly professional drivers who do these things, ie taxis, delivery vehicles and trade vans, like this is supposed to be be your job ffs. Because even if Glasgow suddenly develops a magical public transport network and cycle infrastructure that removes the need to take the car for commuting and errands, these people are still going to be on the road, endangering those around them. by Eibi (Fri 10th Feb 2023 9:37am)
  • Jesus, actually? That's so much wtf. by Eibi (Fri 10th Feb 2023 9:49am)
  • I was wondering the other day why the council doesn't fit all the city centre traffic lights with cameras that detect when vehicles run the light, they'd make a fortune and make the city centre safer! by Eibi (Fri 10th Feb 2023 9:46am)
  • Ah fair enough, my layperson impression was that it didn't seem like such a complicated thing to make so I didn't see any obstacle to installing a lot of them. Do you know what makes them expensive? by Eibi (Fri 10th Feb 2023 1:04pm)
  • I agree it's a slippery slope. More and more public spaces are being changed so that if you're not a "paying customer" you don't get to sit down somewhere nice and relax. Everything is a product. Everything must become a way to extract wealth. by Eibi (Sun 19th Feb 2023 5:34pm)
  • So sad too, It was such a pretty and peaceful lunch break spot to clear my head and relax on my work days. by Eibi (Sun 19th Feb 2023 5:31pm)
  • What do you mean sort by price ascending? The stuff on freecycle is free by default. Did you mean distance? by Eibi (Sun 12th Mar 2023 10:15am)
  • Yeah I was thinking that's some top quality /r/compoface. by Eibi (Thu 16th Mar 2023 12:31pm)
  • We briefly spoke to the new owner while eating there not too long after reopening. He seemed nice for what it's worth, hopefully he rectifies the issues described in the article. It's certainly a ballsy move to start (or take over) a new business currently, when small businesses seem to be going down left and right... by Eibi (Thu 16th Mar 2023 12:37pm)
  • It's already been said in another comment, but I'm going to say it again with a link to the Shelter website confirming this: Landlords are not allowed to ask for more than 6 months rent upfront. https://scotland.shelter.org.uk/professional_resources/legal/accessing_accommodation/paying_for_rented_accommodation/rent_in_advance by Eibi (Thu 16th Mar 2023 8:23pm)
  • Yes, it's right there on [Shelter's website](https://scotland.shelter.org.uk/professional_resources/legal/accessing_accommodation/paying_for_rented_accommodation/rent_in_advance), with a reference to the relevant legislation. by Eibi (Thu 16th Mar 2023 8:20pm)
  • Yeah it said so in the ad, and when I found who they were I found their staff page on the uni website confirming it. by Eibi (Fri 17th Mar 2023 8:15pm)
  • Although Glasvegan's former owner is also dealing with workers protesting bad working conditions so I perhaps wouldn't use that one as an example... Hopefully the new owner is better. All Suissi waiters I've spoken to say it's great working there though so there's at least that! by Eibi (Wed 22nd Mar 2023 10:43am)
  • Yep. looks like some people in the comment are trying to make this a vegan vs non-vegans thing. This is a working people vs those who exploit them thing. Let's not get distracted. by Eibi (Wed 22nd Mar 2023 10:47am)
  • Honestly I don't understand how roadside billboards, lit or not, are actually legal. Drivers are meant to be looking at and focusing on the road, I don't see how that's compatible with placing billboards which are meant to be looked at and read next to the road. by Eibi (Fri 24th Mar 2023 6:00pm)
  • I guess what bugs me is that the placing of such advertising by nature is trying to grab the attention of people in cars, and in the UK the average lone driver rate is 65% (90% for commuting) so the argument that these are meant for passengers doesn't convince me. And signage exists to increase safety for everyone on the road and conveys important information, which advertising doesn't do. Ultimately, I know it is drivers's responsibility to stay focused but I just wish they didn't put things out there whose purpose it is to split their attention. I do have a strong dislike of advertising though, so I will concede I am somewhat biased here! by Eibi (Fri 24th Mar 2023 7:08pm)
  • It doesn't matter if they're literally a minute, that's enough to endanger people. by Eibi (Sun 26th Mar 2023 8:09pm)
  • Even if it is a "money making exercise", the council could certainly use that and I'd rather they got it punishing dangerous behaviour rather than an (even larger) increase in council tax. by Eibi (Sun 26th Mar 2023 8:16pm)
  • I remember the consultation about that, before the pandemic. I must say I was wondering what became of it. It is sorely needed. by Eibi (Wed 29th Mar 2023 9:11pm)
  • Ah, fair enough. To be fair, I saw it in a Glasgow Times article, I'm not sure they care all that much about making sure a story is true, so perhaps I should have seen that coming. by Eibi (Mon 10th Apr 2023 9:45am)
  • Definitely not helped by the fact that the council made bulky waste uplift a paying service, such a dumb move. And they have the gall to say this will "encourage everyone to reduce the amount of waste they produce". Lol have they met the people in this city, this will not be the effect. by Eibi (Wed 11th Oct 2023 6:31pm)
  • In my old flat in Anniesland I used to cycle to Dawsholm recycling centre to recycle my tetrapaks (not accepted in household recycling, most people don't even know). I could go all the way along the canal, nice and safe. In my new flat, the closest recycling centres are death traps to cycle to. No thanks, I'm not risking my life for some tetrapaks. I don't feel guilty because the council does not provide reasonable solutions for recycling. Even for people who drive, it would make no sense to expect every one to drive to the recycling centre every week for their tetrapaks. by Eibi (Wed 11th Oct 2023 6:37pm)
