Interests:

  • Go to La Cheetah, SWG3, Sub Club or Berkeley Suite. Ask around when you're in there. As long as you're not a massive bellend, someone will show you the way. by Fudball1 (Tue 22nd Jan 2019 7:50pm)
  • Personally I wouldn't be rushing to live in Govan. West End is decent but well over priced. South Side seems to be the place to be at the moment, plenty of good bars, restaurants etc. There are too many small areas to mention over there but Shawlands is the most popular. Dennistoun is also fine and has a good mix of professionals, hipster types and proper east end of Glasgow people. I'm in Rutherglen like the above poster, it's not as cool as the above places but you do get much more for your money when buying or renting. No artisan bakeries or micro breweries though, just a normal working class area. The train into the city centre is only 6 or 8 minutes and the bus is about 20 minutes so all good. by Fudball1 (Sat 16th Feb 2019 8:14am)
  • Farmers daughter - quarter. Usually used when discussing quantities of illegal substances by Fudball1 (Sat 16th Feb 2019 8:29am)
  • Areas I'd personally avoid, Possil Park, Milton, Castlemilk, Royston, Parkhead, Easterhouse and its surrounding areas. Areas I which have good bits and some scarey bits, Springburn, Govan, Maryhill, Bridgeton, Calton, Gorbals, Shettleston, Drumchapel, Arden, by Fudball1 (Sat 16th Feb 2019 2:06pm)
  • Personally I wouldn't lump Springburn in with those other areas. I worked with a girl who lived there for two years, she was a tiny, naive islander from Stornaway and she was very happy there She got a massive new build flat for an outrageously cheap price. Walked to and from work in the city every day with no trouble. Definitely worth considering if an amazing deal on a flat came up IMO. by Fudball1 (Sat 16th Feb 2019 5:56pm)
  • Same folks behind Fiesta in KG park last Summer. by Fudball1 (Mon 4th Mar 2019 6:28pm)
  • Not true. Can't speak for Clydebank as I'm nowhere near it. Rutherglen and Cambuslang are a total mix though. There are some dodgey areas but also areas with fucking massive posh houses. What I will say is that they aren't particularly 'cool' areas. Not much in the way of bars or restaurants. However. You can get pretty much anywhere in the city quickly due to great transport links. Cheaper rent and mortgage prices than more gentrified areas. by Fudball1 (Fri 29th Mar 2019 1:22pm)
  • I could probably very quickly name 50 areas in Glasgow and the surrounding areas that are worse than Rutherglen, Cambuslang or Clydebank. Sounds like you are a copper/ex copper and probably only had to deal with the worst shit in Rutherglen and Cambuslang. As for big houses, my point is that if you live in one of the posh houses on Brownside Road or Rodger Drive for example, your life is not gonna be remotely affected by the residents of Whitlawburn or Greenhill Court. No matter where you are in Glasgow, you are only 5 minutes from a perceived shithole. Even the residents of Newton Mearns's kids have to go to school with the weans from Arden. by Fudball1 (Sat 30th Mar 2019 12:25am)

  • Rutherglen seems to come up every other week on here. Cambuslang and Rutherglen are pretty similar tbh. Rutherglen is closer to Glasgow and has slightlly better shops so I'd rather live in rutherglen. Rutherglen. Fernhill - Used to be mental, still has its moments but I'd consider living there if the house was decent, loads of new houses Blairbeth - generally fine. Springhall - Total shit hole, avoid Burnhill/ West Rutherglen - looks ok but scores high on the deprivation list. When I was at school 20 years ago, a high proportion of the nutters came from here. Greenhill Road - Full of psychos and junkies. Defo avoid Farme Cross - Fine I think. Spittal - Fine Bankhead - Decent Burnside - Posh and quite expensive plus pretty dull Cambuslang - Whitlawburn - Total shitehole Cathkin - ok these days. Halfway - Has a youth crime problem, some ok bits though. Newton - Nice Drumsargard - Fine Kirkhill - Decent The Circuit - Notorious in the 80s and 90s, better now but still wouldnt live there. Westburn - Think they might have demolished this area tbh. by Fudball1 (Tue 14th May 2019 10:15pm)
  • Aye, Baked is so good. by Fudball1 (Tue 14th May 2019 11:09pm)
  • Eastfield in cambuslang is also decent btw. by Fudball1 (Wed 15th May 2019 1:13pm)
  • Chicken. Older obese lady in wheelchair from Rutherglen area. Ridiculously abusive to anyone who crosses paths with her. See her cutting about the town a lot as well as more locally. Mind another sort of goblin type guy in Hawaian shirts who was always about the west end and pretty abusive too. Is the Electric Scarecrow still alive? Does anyone have any more info on him? Two favourite Rutherglen characters were Peter Beardsley and Mario the trolley pushers from Rutherglen Safeway! by Fudball1 (Wed 19th Jun 2019 1:06pm)

  • Also used to get pirated Amiga games there in the early to mid 90s when I was 12-15. Was exciting and felt like you were part of some illegal network. James Pond, Afterburner, Zoom, Wizzkid, Monkey Island to name a few. Was quite a professional operation if I remember right. From 95- 97 I was buying rave tapes. Mostly hardcore from The Metro, Fubar and Rezerection. The Barras was ace during this period. Sadly, its mostly tat now. Hopefully they hipster it up a bit which seems to be the plan. by Fudball1 (Sat 28th Dec 2019 9:22pm)
  • Sorry. I'm up at the house just now dealing with homework, dinner and bedtime. I will definitely try to reply to everyone who gave genuine considered advice once the kids are down and I'm back at my parents on my laptop. Predictably, a couple of absolute judgemental helmets also diving in with their illthought ramblings. Thanks everyone. by Fudball1 (Tue 7th Jan 2020 7:22pm)
  • Depends what you're after. The Sub Club is more house and techno orientated. La Cheetah and The Berkely tend to have a bigger range of genres. This weekend, they are both more disco focussed if that makes a difference. by Fudball1 (Wed 22nd Jan 2020 10:55am)
  • Got in a fight with a guy outside Jongleur's comedy club in 2006. Guy punched my brother for nothing. Two of us managed to batter three of them and neither of us are hard cunts. Witnessed a horrible fight on Vicky Road in the Summer. Was eating dinner with my wife in Nanika. We were sat right in the window, front row seat for the action. This young boy walks by the window of the restaurant then stops and stares straight at me. The window seat is right by the door and I was sure he was gonna charge in and start with me. He looked like he was desperate to get in a scrap. His older mate (mid 40s) who was very drunk did come into the restaurant which was obviously annoying but he was pretty harmless "awrite troops, enjoy yer dinner etc" could be quite intimidating for tourists, young girls ets. He leaves then about a minute later, him and the young wido plus a third genuinely hard looking cunt run back and suddenly are all going to town against another gang of 5 neds. Right outside the window. Was violent as fuck. The 'harmless older guy got knocked clean out while his 2 mates took a beating off the 5 guys. This wee geeky cunt who was also eating in the restaurant was out in the street about 3 feet from the action giving a detailed description over the phone to the cops. I'm just thinking he's gonna end up getting the restaurant wrecked, as one of the guys is swinging about one of those big triangular road signs that would have killed someone if he'd chosen to throw it though the window. Cops showed up once they'd all fucked off obviously!! by Fudball1 (Wed 29th Jan 2020 6:32pm)
  • Two of the worst areas in Glasgow. To the people saying that they are ok areas, where are you comparing them to? Where in Glasgow is worse? Maybe if you grew up there and everyone knew your face it'd be alright but I'd avoid moving to either tbh. by Fudball1 (Thu 6th Feb 2020 9:09pm)
  • Sunday Mail done a big expose on them all last year. Named a lot of the people involved. There's defo some still going. I'm just not out clubbing all that often now cos I'm 39! by Fudball1 (Sat 8th Feb 2020 9:31am)
  • In Scotland, EDM is the commercialised stuff they play in Vegas hotels, Avici, Martin Garix, etc. Mainly enjoyed by 14 year olds. House and techno are still going strong here. Sub Club, La Cheetah, Berkely Suite, Club 69, SWG3. Hardcore and grabber are still popular here too but a rougher (but still friendly) crowd if you don't mind that. After parties have been cracked down on a bit by the police recently. Ask around when you are at a club. Someone might even hand you a flyer forca after party at some stage. Usually when you are leaving a club. What dates are you here? Jeff Mills is playing SWG3 on 28 March. The after part by Fudball1 (Sat 15th Feb 2020 10:19am)
  • I was put on Ritalin at age 27. I'm 39 now. Always been a scatterbrain and was always in trouble at school despite coming from a good family and my brother and sister both rarely in trouble. Moved into my own place at 25 and couldn't cope to an extent. Was leaving pots on the hob and going out to the shop, losing keys, forgetting bills. Making impulsive decisions. I started to panic that I was getting some sort of early onset dementia. Seen my GP then had about 4 sessions with a psychologist and 2 with a psychiatrist. Psychiatrist said he was treating me with ADHD meds but not diagnosing me with ADHD in case it affected my job. TBH I hate the Ritalin. It's a bit like taking coke but without any of the pleasant feelings. I take regular breaks from it until I feel myself getting a bit fried in the brain, then I start taking it again. This probably is not the ideal way to take it but I get to a point were I need a few days of not feeling amped up. I have considered asking to transfer to one of the other preparations. by Fudball1 (Sat 7th Mar 2020 1:09am)
  • Grew up next door in Rutherglen. Prospecthill Circus was the really shady bit, like a mini Sighthill. That's all gone now though. There's not much there except a giant asda but if you don't mind travelling a short distance for good bars, food etc then you can probably get a house or flat far cheaper than all the 'cooler' parts of the Southside. by Fudball1 (Tue 10th Mar 2020 10:30am)
  • Tbh that's probably good advice. The noise is annoying but not obscene. Can't believe How hypocritical though to have folk in all weekend and then get pure hostile about 30 minutes of DIY at 7 o'clock. I've still never seen this guy in the flesh in my two months living here. Dunno if he's a wee dick or a massive psycho. I need to put eyes on him and I'll maybe speak to him and just ask in a non-agro way what the issue was. by Fudball1 (Sat 21st Mar 2020 10:34pm)
  • I was born in 1980 so had my childhood in the 80s and grew up during the 90s. Overall memory was of Glasgow being scarier. My very first time being allowed into the town on my own with friends, probably 10 years old. We went to Laser Quest and then were promptly mugged on Trongate as soon as we left! Remember something similar to Laser Quest called Quazer. Think it was in Marcos which is now West Brewery at The Green? They had a Street Fighter 2 arcade game. Felt like you basically had to watch your back everywhere you went. On the bus, down the Main Street, in the town. There was just always an air of menace that things could kick off or some evil bastard could just turn on you out of nowhere. Even at school. Our school in Rutherglen must have had about ten different gangs, then there the fights with the the local proddy schools. People cutting about school with axes/machetes/wrenches wasn't that unusual. The carnival at the SECC was a chance for all the gangs from all over Glasgow to challenge gangs from further afield who would normally never get the chance to meet. Castlemilk vs Easterhouse or Drumchapel vs Gorbals. Mind getting pirated Amiga games at the Barras in the early 90s. Totally loved that. The ground was always covered in discarded mussel chells by Fudball1 (Fri 14th Aug 2020 8:56am)
  • They're an absolute riddy. by Fudball1 (Fri 21st Aug 2020 10:00pm)
  • South of Greenhill Road you have Fernhill and Springhall which is probably the worst area in the whole of Rutherglen. by Fudball1 (Wed 14th Oct 2020 11:45am)
  • My pal has a flat at the Wetherspoons and she's desperate to move. Junkies constantly kicking the close door in etc. Seems the place is going downhill again. West Main St and Burnhill areas have always been sketchy though Greenhill Road too. If you're talking greater Rutherglen area, Springhall is the worst part of the whe area IMO. by Fudball1 (Wed 14th Oct 2020 11:54am)
  • Shit. I live in a scheme but I never tip the Iceland delivery guy. I didn't realise anyone did. I do tip takeaway delivery guys, barbers andctaci drivers though by Fudball1 (Sat 17th Oct 2020 7:03pm)

  • Bridgeton's rough, loads of neds and loads of junkies about, plus it's very loyalist. It's close to town and Glasgow Green though. I wouldn't be rushing to live there tbh. Can't think of too many places in Glasgow I'd be less inclined to live, maybe Easterhouse, Possil and Milton, and that's about it really. by Fudball1 (Thu 20th May 2021 9:26pm)

  • I used to buy dinner tickets for 50p. My old dear only gave me £1 a day dinner money. Enough for a sausage roll, a doughnut and a can of ginger. All the kids on dinner tickets used to get dinner money too off their parents and were happy selling the tickets. I'd get a full lunch aff the dinner hall for 50p and save the other half for bevy. by Fudball1 (Fri 3rd Sep 2021 10:24pm)

  • Used to be a 'pub' up a lane in the Barras called the Oasis that opened at 8 on a Sunday. We used to go late 90s, early 00s when we were still awake after a night at the Arches. I've never met anyone else who ever went though and can gind no mention of it online. by Fudball1 (Sun 12th Dec 2021 10:32am)
  • Nice building. Would be a shame if someone was to... BURN IT DOWN! by Fudball1 (Sun 12th Dec 2021 11:47pm)
  • I'm quite near there. It's generally a fine wee area. No bad streets whatsoever, if it's the 4 in a block houses, the soundproofing isn't amazing, so if your neighbours are fannies, it can get annoying. Also dog shit is a major problem in Croftfoot if that's an issue for you. by Fudball1 (Tue 14th Dec 2021 1:08pm)

  • Dellos is very good but I grudge giving them my money. Plus not doing fritters is criminal IMO. There's a good chippy in Castlemilk called S Baran Fish and Chips. I thought the Kai Xin was still decent last time I went. Singapore chow mein was good. Smaller portions than Happy House though which is my local and reliably mediocre. Welcome to Ruggy. • The 'top man' in Rutherglen on the 90s was Stevie Doc, who came to a sticky end when he took a tumble out the window of some high flats in Toryglen. • It's a well known system. Arty & music types move into a working class area for cheap rent. Then a little bit of gentrification happens, this attracts all the young professionals and then all the coffee shops, micro breweries and artisan bakeries pop up and all the traditional residents and businesses are priced out. See Dennistoun, Finnieston, Vicky Rd etc. It's pretty shi for the original folks, though most of us have probably been out eating and drinking in these areas at some point, so we have supported it. I actually wouldn't mind a wee bit of gentrification in Rutherglen. Not too much, but a few nice pubs. by Fudball1 (Thu 24th Mar 2022 8:24am)

  • We don't have authentic street food in Glasgow, we just have a hipster re-imagination of whst street-food is in other countries unfortunately. • Rutherglen gets a bad rep on here, but its really not that bad. It's generally a working class area and has some problems with deprivation in parts, but also has areas with huge mansions and everything in between. However. Greenhill Rd is fucking rough and I personally would not live there, and I'm not a snob who's biggest fear in life is having to encounter a working class person. I know some delivery drivers won't deliver to the big flats due to the occupants. Go to Google news and type in Greenhill Rd rutherglen and you will get an insight. I've lived in Rutherglen all my days, so if you want to say were the other houses are that you've seen, I'm happy to tell you what the area is like. by Fudball1 (Mon 11th Jul 2022 5:55pm)
  • To play devil's advocate, I live next to castlemilk and there are parts of it that I'd 100% rather stay than the Greenhill Court flats. by Fudball1 (Mon 11th Jul 2022 7:04pm)
  • I like Gerry Cinnamon. He has shunned everything that's toxic about the music industry which is brilliant. He's a local boy, his songs are catchy and the lyrics speak to a huge number of disaffected working class kids. I say this as a 41 year old man with what many would call pretentious taste in music. by Fudball1 (Tue 12th Jul 2022 4:33pm)
  • There's quite a large reggae scene here but it's not tied to particular venues. I think the promoters tend to pick venues that suit the particular night. Decades of Dub isxa party to look out for and Walk n Skank is another I think. by Fudball1 (Wed 13th Jul 2022 6:04pm)
  • Not quite Glasgow, but Halfway in Cambuslang used to be well known for car thievery and joyriding. There's also a big newish green space that links up castlemilk and the back end of rutherglen called Fernbrae Meadow where there are often burnt out motors abandoned so I'm assuming car theft is alive and well out there somewhere. by Fudball1 (Wed 7th Sep 2022 7:34am)

  • We live in Rutherglen and I hate being considered Lanarkshire. My son had an appointment recently and because we come under NHS Lanarkshire, we had to travel out to the arse end of fucking Motherwell which seems ridiculous when there is a similar service 5 minutes down the road in Gorbals. Also fucking weird getting taxis home from town and paying a boundary charge to go to my house but if I travel straight through Rutherglen into Castlemilk I am somehow back in Glasgow and the boundary drops off. by Fudball1 (Fri 30th Sep 2022 9:07am)
