  • A few years ago, my mate was the priest in charge of a church in Hyndland. The church had been approached by a mobile phone company to put a mast on the roof. The congregation were okay with it (I think), so my mate asked the local community. Frankie Boyle lives in the area, came along to a meeting, and told my mate that if the phone mast went up, Frankie would call the cops and accuse my mate of being a kiddie-fiddler. Not really found the cunt funny since then. by Kammerice (Sun 8th Sep 2019 4:58pm)

  • Was just gonna post that. Dennistoun runs from Millerston Street to John Knox Street (although I've seen arguments for High Street) and from Alexandra Parade to Duke Street (or, again, arguments for Gallowgate - although I'd say that anything south of Reidvale Street was the Calton). by Kammerice (Thu 3rd Dec 2020 8:10pm)

  • You're allowed to feel shite at Christmas. I used to actively hate it. My wife and I sat down one year after she'd got fed up with my mumping and we came up with our own Christmas traditions. Fuck the shite TV or weather or whatever. Do whatever makes you happy, especially at this time of year and especially after this year. Enjoy the time off, if nothing else. by Kammerice (Thu 24th Dec 2020 7:16pm)

  • I was staying with friends in near Manchester when that happened. What really struck me was, on the way down, the Glasgow Rangers fans on the train were awful. I had to change at Carlisle (or Preston, can't mind) and ended up on a train from Edinburgh. The Rangers fans coming from there were a lot more chilled. Much more pleasant journey . by Kammerice (Sat 6th Mar 2021 5:40pm)

  • Born and bred in Dennistoun. As someone in the thread said, it's the sense of community. Folk know each other, talk to each other, and generally look out for each other. It's bizarre if you're not from here. Then there's the shops. There are loads of wee places with fantastic character - not saying they don't exist elsewhere, but the sheer volume of them these days is unreal. There's something for everyone in terms of pubs and bars (maybe not full blown clubs or anything, but there are old man pubs, trendy hipster joints, and everything between). The eateries are top notch. Again, other areas have equally as good, but maybe not the range or at the price. There's so much quality without paying over the odds. Rent is cheaper compared to other areas. Prices are going up, but they're going up everywhere. by Kammerice (Sun 28th Mar 2021 12:46pm)
  • Funny - I grew up south of Duke Street (but north of Reidvale Street). I also had a sense of community. Might just have been me, though... by Kammerice (Sun 28th Mar 2021 6:18pm)

  • >Mines is also 25 years this year, was his birthday yesterday so had a wee drink for that. He was 33 when he passed and now at 31 I'm like wtf. Have a good day & enjoy your rum ❤ Christ, that's no age at all! Massive virtual hugs from me. I've not reached my dad's age yet - he was 51. But the older I get, the quicker it seems to be coming. by Kammerice (Mon 26th Apr 2021 4:30pm)

  • Further to this, just to say that I called the helpline yesterday and was told they weren't making bookings. Now, I don't live in G42, so that could be the reason, but I wasn't told that explicitly. Instead, I used the website and for an appointment minutes later (the appointment itself is in a few weeks). by Kammerice (Thu 20th May 2021 3:39pm)

  • Guys, not to put a damper on things, but OP's post history would suggest that they're a bot. The account is a couple of days old with a lot of eclectic posts across a wide range of topics, with very few replies. I don't think this will actually be a thing, although I'd very much like it to something. There is a r/glasgowcreatives that doesn't get a lot of traffic. We could start a writing group there, maybe migrate to a Discord server if numbers seem good. Thoughts? by Kammerice (Sat 22nd May 2021 10:55pm)
  • Paging u/MaoTheCat. What's your thoughts on this? Can we use your subreddit for a new writing group? by Kammerice (Sun 23rd May 2021 1:17pm)
  • It's a valid comment. However, it's not one I, or many of the published authors in other subreddits, think is a major concern. If people are so concerned about keeping themselves anonymous, they could make a writing-specific alt account. by Kammerice (Sun 23rd May 2021 10:00pm)
  • I'm not attacking or judging you, but can I ask why you're not wanting it? I work in clinical research for the NHS, and helped set up most, if not all, of the trials, so would be more than happy to talk about this. To reiterate, definitely not looking for a fight. by Kammerice (Mon 24th May 2021 4:32pm)
  • That's me made my 117th blood donation this morning. My arm's got so much scar tissue on it, but genuinely wouldn't have it any other way at this point. by Kammerice (Sat 29th May 2021 10:45am)
  • On behalf of donors, you're more than welcome! by Kammerice (Sat 29th May 2021 11:22am)
  • Maybe ask about platelet donation. They hook you up to a centrifuge which draws the blood it rather than passively letting it dribble out. Donations can take anywhere between 45 to 90 mins, so only something to consider if you have time. by Kammerice (Sat 29th May 2021 11:21am)

  • Interim data from Com-Cov study (https://www.thelancet.com/journals/lancet/article/PIIS0140-6736(21)01115-6/fulltext) - which is looking at mixing vaccines (i.e. dose 1 AZ, dose 2 Pfizer, or vice versa) - suggests that you'd be fine getting the other vaccine instead, but that you may experience shivers, chills, and a general feeling of shittiness, which could be offset with paracetamol etc. by Kammerice (Sun 30th May 2021 2:18pm)
  • Squeezed all traffic onto the Parade or Duke Street and turned the Drives into even more or a rat-race than they already are. by Kammerice (Sat 5th Jun 2021 7:47pm)
  • Have you ever driven those roads? Single lane, multiple sets of lights, and parked up. When the one-way system was in place, tail-backs could take 15 minutes or so to clear. Busiest I've seen them in nearly 40 years. by Kammerice (Sat 5th Jun 2021 8:36pm)
  • I don't disagree, but until that's in place, systems like the one imposed on Dennistoun won't work. by Kammerice (Sun 6th Jun 2021 10:01am)
  • Talking specifically about Dennistoun, it didn't work. You're right, though: clearing Duke Street and the Parade of parked cars would free up so much space, which would ease congestion for those of us who drive them, thus making things a bit easier (also making, say Armadale Street one way down and Craigpark one way up, with lights at either end, rather than the winding path that was needed to get from the Parade to Duke Street or vice versa). by Kammerice (Sun 6th Jun 2021 10:13am)

  • Janey Godley is entitled to complain about whatever she wants. However she is, as far as I know, a person who put herself into the public eye. She's a comedian, which is very subjective - to be upset that people don't like her or her material comes with the gig. She could have quietly blocked OP and got on with her life, but that doesn't seem to have been the case. by Kammerice (Tue 7th Sep 2021 6:50pm)
  • >But to start ... just fix home report valuations ... if everyone is offering 20% over the valuation then the valuation is wrong! It's not that the valuation is wrong as such. The house/flat/whatever *is* only worth the home report. Folk are coming in, though, and sticking money on top of that. • >You're trusting science. They're trusting their Facebook meta verse walls. I'm not *trusting* science: I'm *doing* the science. You might not want to believe "Big Pharma", but maybe you'll believe someone who works in clinical research for the NHS on behalf of sick people: this thing is real and it's killed so many people. I'm fucking sick of restrictions. Everyone is. This only goes away with vaccination by everyone who can take it (i.e. not medically exempt). Will you still get Covid? Possibly. Will you die from it? Not unless you've got major underlying health conditions. Will you be sick enough to be hospitalised? Almost definitely not. Once we're at the maximum vaccinated population, then we can start treating it like any other seasonal virus. by Kammerice (Sat 18th Dec 2021 11:04pm)
  • >Agreed, asking for medical information that's nobody's business, isn't on. >Coercing people to take any kind of medical intervention is opposed to the nurenberg code. The Nuremberg Code only applies to clinical trials, not standard practice, and has been (sort of) superseded by the Declaration of Helsinki. by Kammerice (Sat 18th Dec 2021 11:08pm)
  • >Yes but I chose the Nuremberg code because we established these kind of basic principles a LONG time ago.. But somehow we are ignoring them now and that doesn't sit well with me. >Choice and consent are important issues I want to protect. All I can do is make the right choice for me. >Things like masks social distancing etc, mandate them as they don't go inside a person's body I'm all for it. I don't disagree. It still only applies to clinical trials. The Highway Code doesn't apply on private roads (like the Top Gear track), so citing it at people in that environment doesn't make sense. Same here: you're trying to apply a ruleset to a situation where it's not applicable. by Kammerice (Sun 19th Dec 2021 10:45am)
  • No, it's not. You're applying a ruleset which has a specific application to a situation that it has no relevance. by Kammerice (Sun 19th Dec 2021 11:32am)
  • That's fine. You can disagree but that doesn't make you right. In fact, it makes you wrong. by Kammerice (Sun 19th Dec 2021 11:36am)
  • I grew up with Home Alone - it came out when I was about the same age as Kevin. Watching as an adult, I really dislike how tonally confused the whole thing is: you've got Kevin living his best life and the Wet Bandits planning their heist, all with a laugh and a joke. Compare that to his frantic mother who seems to be in some kind of Hallmark holiday drama, not a comedy. Then, after all the laughs and jokes have been in the realms of Hollywood-realism, it becomes a Loony Tunes episode. Annoys me. But I've come to realise that none of the actual final act happens: it's all in Kevin's head. He didn't actually do any of the very-likely fatal shit. by Kammerice (Thu 23rd Dec 2021 4:32pm)
  • For me, that explains why the final act is so, so different. It also explains why the cops don't take Kevin away after they realise he's by himself, and explains how he managed to tidy everything up for his family coming home. Joe Pecisi's gold tooth is real, probably because the old guy really hit him with the snow shovel, but the rest is an 8 year old boy's fantasy about how he saved his family home. by Kammerice (Thu 23rd Dec 2021 6:10pm)

  • You seem awfully invested in my opinion on this. Just because I don't like it, doesn't diminish whatever it means to you. You're not going to change my opinion (mainly because aside from telling me "It's not shite", you haven't actually explained what you enjoy and it). In fact: I'd appreciate that. I've told you what I dislike, so what appeals to you about it? by Kammerice (Thu 23rd Dec 2021 7:00pm)
  • I think it's the slap-stick elements that never appealed. I'd rather watch something a little more screwball or something where it's the dialogue and the characters who make it. by Kammerice (Thu 23rd Dec 2021 9:30pm)
  • Merry Christmas, folks. I'm spending today doing as much tidying up as I can after losing yesterday to the after-effects of my flu jag. Currently building the Ghostbusters Firehouse in virtual Lego. That should keep me busy for a while. by Kammerice (Fri 24th Dec 2021 10:57am)
  • Ha! To be fair, I only stopped tidying to grab a coffee and thought I could add a few more bricks to my build. Also: SORRY SIR! IT WON'T HAPPEN AGAIN, SIR! by Kammerice (Fri 24th Dec 2021 12:17pm)
  • You can either get Lego Digital Studio (I think that's what it's called) or Stud.io, which is what I'm using. So, so much fun. by Kammerice (Fri 24th Dec 2021 12:16pm)

  • If you're up for the walk, the Gorbals Glasgow Club is okay. Alternatively, the Emirates is reasonable, especially if you walk down when Celtic are at home (nobody wants the hassle of getting to the gym, so it's quite quiet). by Kammerice (Sun 6th Feb 2022 10:58am)

  • Did I really need to put an /s tag on the Glasgow subreddit? Fuck sake, I know it's not a normal way to describe it: the person I responded to asked for an equivalent measure. I chose the average female weight because what I lifted was easily divisible by that number (the average male weight is 82kg, which isn't easy arithmetic). by Kammerice (Sun 6th Feb 2022 3:19pm)

  • >The conversation is about risk. This crap about red light jumping cyclists is a load of shit because a red light jumping cyclist have almost no chance of killing someone. That's not my issue with cyclists jumping lights. My issue is that I now don't know if this is the only road law they're going to disregard, which makes them unpredictable and therefore more of a hazard I need to pay attention to. It's one of the reasons why, when I'm out on my bike, I'll sit at lights. Also, depending on space, I'll sit in traffic rather than squeeze to the front. >Cars, vans, lorries, buses can easily kill cyclists. Their impatience as drivers and lack of care for the life of others is disgusting. Absolutely agree. >No one is going round talking about red light jumping drivers who go through at high speed accelerating on the orange light to make it through but actually don’t and just keep going. Those people are fucking sick. There's so, so many of them! It's gotten crazy since restrictions eased. Maybe it's fewer police on the roads. >Fuck this culture of car ownership where “I pay my road tax so these cyclists can fuck off and die” is the slogan. I know you're not saying this, but just to clarify: nobody pays road tax. Vehicle owners pay a registration fee. Old school "road tax" is paid for via the council tax (after all, it's the council, not the DVLA, who fix the roads), so chances are that the cyclists have paid their share as much as the drivers. by Kammerice (Fri 29th Apr 2022 5:38pm)

  • Just to echo u/whoops53 - I've known several people who, at various ages, have taken intensive lessons. Every single one of them have had to take additional lessons afterwards. Will you be able to drive at the end of the intensive programme? Maybe. Will you be able to pass a driving test? Almost assuredly not. I'd block book lessons in the normal way and build your road confidence. by Kammerice (Sat 28th May 2022 6:08pm)

  • You did claim by inference that all furries and/or GNC individuals are autistic. by Kammerice (Sat 25th Jun 2022 6:20pm)
  • Nothing wrong with my reading comprehension. >My suspicion is that it's to do with the large cross-over between the two, as autistic people are overwhelmingly more likely to be both furries and non-gender conforming. OP asked about furries and pride. You brought up autistic people as if they were already being discussed. They weren't, but because you mentioned them without discussing any distinctions, the implication is that you believe all members of those communities are autistic. If that wasn't your intention, then fair enough. by Kammerice (Sat 25th Jun 2022 7:04pm)
  • Not disagreeing with anything you've said, just to point out that we don't have NHS trusts in Scotland: we have NHS Health Boards. To be honest, this isn't a normal year for me - I'd have been heading to NYCC on the dates as the Monopoly con, but my friends out in the States weren't going to be around, so not much for us to aside from the con. by Kammerice (Sat 10th Sep 2022 4:57pm)

  • The FT space has been open for ages. I used it about four or five weeks ago when I couldn't get on a squat rack. The refurb is complete. They've changed most/all the cardio machines, replaced the platforms after an accident and the floor partially giving way, got a few new plate-loaded weight machines. • It was so, so good! Full run of the place. Plus, because it had been open to the public earlier, there was none of the usual hanging about for guests. The museum closed to that public at 17:00, our guests arrived for 18:00, we got married at 18:30, dinner at 19:00ish, night guests at 21:30, kick out at 00:00, then an after party elsewhere. by Kammerice (Sat 26th Nov 2022 1:29pm)
  • I've not had an issue since they opened the multistorey carpark. Always spaces when I've gone and it spits you out at the back, meaning a clean getaway without having to go back through the Fort itself. Of course, it's a bit of a walk if you're going to the other end, like M&S, but I personally don't mind. I'd rather leave the spaces closer for those who need it more than I do. by Kammerice (Mon 5th Dec 2022 10:23am)

As to them backing out, I'm friends with a couple of former senior staff members. I can't see anything online about it, so maybe it didn't go through after all. by Kammerice (Mon 5th Dec 2022 9:49pm)
  • As someone who shares the roads with taxis, can you explain why none of these cunts can actually drive? Road markings, road signals, traffic lights: all optional to these people. I'd rather walk to the airport than pay to support an industry like that. by Kammerice (Fri 9th Dec 2022 8:23am)

They looked quite sheepish when I pointed out that we're all stressed, nobody wants to be in town, and our wives would probably be quite upset if we went home with gifts and broken noses. It was a Christmas miracle. by Kammerice (Sun 18th Dec 2022 4:14pm)

Shopped around locally and managed to get someone to do the whole thing for £1.5k. Still expensive, but not as eye-watering. by Kammerice (Fri 23rd Dec 2022 9:21am)
  • Depends on if they run the extended version. My DVD is 18 rated because the extended version is on it. Not sure why it's rated higher: nothing much changed except a couple of minor beats. by Kammerice (Fri 23rd Dec 2022 4:42pm)

  • >Take responsibility for yourself and learn how to cross a road safely Highway code says pedestrians have the right of way, regardless of road signs. That's why jay-walking isn't a crime: as soon as someone sets foot on the road, cars have to give way. • If the one in Edinburgh you mean Scotland Comic Con, it was fucking hellish last year. They have good guests, sure, but the hall is literally a cattle market with maybe three foot between the stalls leading to massive congestion. They also ran out of food at one point. If you mean Capital Sci-Fi Con (this weekend, I believe), I don't know what it's like. For Cons, I actually enjoyed Acme as a replacement to MCM. by Kammerice (Wed 8th Feb 2023 8:46pm)
  • I absolutely agree with you, but just to clarify that the Highway Code also says that all road users - including pedestrians - are responsible for their own safety on the road first and foremost. by Kammerice (Fri 10th Feb 2023 10:31am)
  • I don't think Acme is established enough yet to do that. They only started after lockdown because MCM didn't come back. Give it a couple of years and we might see more names. by Kammerice (Fri 10th Feb 2023 12:30pm)

Because the word being changed isn't "No", it's "not" which has been contracted to no'. But this person doesn't understand that and thinks every "no" sound becomes "naw". • Depending on your previous comic budget and what titles you're reading, Marvel Unlimited is about £70 for a year and you get full access to all back issues. There's a six month delay on current issues to encourage people to buy physical copies, but there's plenty on there too keep you occupied for that time. I've found it brilliant for saving me money, because I could easily spend that money in a couple of months depending on what titles I was after. by Kammerice (Sun 11th Jun 2023 5:36pm)
  • Fair. It definitely *used* to be six months. I haven't checked in ages. by Kammerice (Sun 11th Jun 2023 8:59pm)

  • If a person can't afford a new car to operate in the LEZ, I would imagine paying for parking anywhere within the LEZ would be equally cost prohibitive. Far be it from me to talk about budgeting during a cost of living crisis, but if the need for a car that won't incur a fine is so great, then it should be a financial priority. by Kammerice (Wed 4th Oct 2023 8:47pm)
  • If we had nationalised or publicly funded public transport, I'd agree. But there's nothing to incentivise companies like First or ScotRail to give a shit about the state of their services. I have opinions on these companies and the way they operate. But I am exceedingly fortunate that I don't have to use them. Right now, the LEZ is limited to the town centre. There are ways to get around it (parking in Govan and taking the subway, parking in Dennistoun or Partick and getting the train, walk if physically able). The cost of a return ticket is less than the charge for parking. I'm not sure which jobs are being discussed where people need cars in the town centre, can afford the insane parking charges, but *can't* afford anything else. I might be coming off as a cunt here, but that's really not my intention. Like I said, I'm lucky enough that this doesn't affect me, so I very much suspect I'm talking out my arse with regards to this by Kammerice (Wed 4th Oct 2023 10:00pm)
  • So we're not allowed to move? We've got to stay where we're born and not think about emigrating. Seems a wee bit close to saying we're not allowed to mix with other races or cultures. by Kammerice (Mon 9th Oct 2023 6:54pm)
  • No, don't ignore the tone. The tone is what makes it worthwhile because otherwise you won't really understand how much contempt I have for your original statement. People are allowed to move. Moving to certain areas might not be advisable, but they're allowed to go. Telling them to stay in the place they were born because that's their actual home is a tad authoritarian. by Kammerice (Mon 9th Oct 2023 7:12pm)
