  • My wife and I did the Cardonald evening course back in 2015. It was a good intro into tiling, DIY, woodwork, fixing common radiator/toilet/tap problems. It’s definitely saved us from calling out a tradesperson a few times. We did the level 1 intro course, there was a more advanced level 2 one (which we didn’t go to) Think it was 6 evenings (2 plumbing, 2 woodwork, 2 tiling & painting) by MountainsAreBig (Thu 16th Sep 2021 10:47am)
  • Agree. I did the Cardonald 6 week evening course. I am comfortable doing very small jobs. Being a DIY amateur, I wouldn’t even think of fitting a kitchen. by MountainsAreBig (Thu 16th Sep 2021 10:59am)
  • https://imgur.com/a/9gVCryL/ The plumbing evenings were: how to plumb in an outdoor tap, and how to fix basic leaks The tiling evenings were how to measure up number of tiles, how to cut tiles, & basic tiling The pics we took during the course give away that we both were first time novices by MountainsAreBig (Thu 16th Sep 2021 11:18am)

From Glasgow City Council (15 Nov 2022) after the dead swans at Hogganfield “We have received reports of six dead swans at Hogganfield Park and, in line with advice from DEFRA, we are assuming the birds have died from avian flu. Due to the high footfall in the park, we have engaged an approved contractor to ensure the birds are removed and disposed of appropriately. We are monitoring our parks regularly but members of the public are advised to avoid any contact with a dead bird or any bird that appears to be visibly sick. But slippy towards the top. I managed in trail runners, but really wished I’d taken at least my YakTraks or microspikes. Hiking poles really helpful. Saw a couple of folk with crampons. • If you were unconscious or out of it in hospital, the nurses sometimes have to go through your things. Anything expensive (money, wallet, jewellery) gets recorded, gets put in an envelope with your name/patient sticker on it and locked away so it doesn’t get lost (whilst you are indisposed). They may have purposely went through your things to lock away valuables or happened on the money whilst looking for socks for you, either way it gets logged and locked away by MountainsAreBig (Wed 29th Mar 2023 5:25pm)

  • I did the level 1 DIY evening course at Cardonald in 2015. It was great. Mainly first time home buyers (quite a few couples). Covered a fair bit, at a basic level- plumbing (how to fit an outside tap, fixing toilet, fixing sink, fixing leaking pipe or tap), tiling (cutting tiles to fit, laying tiles, applying grout), very basic woodwork (how to safely use saw/chisel/sander, making a simple spice rack I think, learning to cut some simple joints). It was a great basic course. Definitely gave me the confidence to take on more DIY jobs around the house. The tutors were fab and a great laugh by MountainsAreBig (Wed 21st Jun 2023 2:08am)
