  • Scream anywhere in the city centre. Nobody will bother you. by Omni_chicken2 (Mon 25th Jan 2021 11:52am)
  • The council guys will come round and give you some traps and lay down poison. When I had mice the council wasn’t able to watch them, but I moved one of their traps and put Nutella in it which caught the wee bugger. Same thing next day and caught the next. by Omni_chicken2 (Sun 31st Jan 2021 5:34pm)
  • Wow. Maybe I’m the roaster. by Omni_chicken2 (Thu 4th Feb 2021 3:10pm)
  • The council was broken up into arms length organisations, but rather than working better, we had silo-working, and even more mismanagement by of money. The council has 3 endemic problems in my experience. 1- Mismanagement. People in higher management positions either are often incompetent or corrupt. 2- funding has been restricted so heavily that an organisation as large as GCC is barely hanging on despite cost cutting savagely. 3- a heavily unionised work force means that work force related reforms are very difficult to put into place without buy-in from unions, who in my experience are all about the money, which GCC doesn’t have. A final issue is more general to local authorities. They’re beholden to the whims of the local politicians. by Omni_chicken2 (Wed 24th Feb 2021 7:46am)
  • It’s a basic, if not the fundamental belief that differentiates Islam from the other Judaic religions that Mohammed is the final prophet of god and there will be no more after him. Ahmedi’s or Mirzai’s are a cult/sect who believe in a relatively contemporary prophet who succeeded Mohammed. A bit like Mormons I guess. They were officially branded as apostate if they call themselves Muslim, and suffer a lot of persecution for this. If they call themselves non-Muslim then there’s no way for Muslims to justify persecuting them. Not to say that they won’t be persecuted regardless, but that’s the theory. They suffer a lot in the sub-continent especially. The shop keeper who was murdered was a poor guy suffering from significant mental health issues, and was professing himself as the messiah and the real prophet of god. For Muslims this is sacrilege, but abusing or persecuting someone with mental health issues is also against the faith. The murderer was not representative of the prevailing view in the Muslim community. He came up from England to murder this man, who was well liked by all accounts. by Omni_chicken2 (Sun 7th Mar 2021 11:30am)
  • I think I may have misstated their current position actually. Their messiah was the founder of their religion, in 1835, he was the one who claimed to have been appointed by god to unite the world and bring about the end times. What they currently have is a Caliph, which is the Islamic version of the Pope I suppose. Mainstream Islam haven’t had a unified “ummah” or caliphate since the Ottoman Empire was taken apart by the British. Their Caliphate is not stated to be hereditary but they’re all just descendants of their original prophet. So while there’s nobody proclaiming to be a prophet cutting about, there is his descendant banging on about being the pope. Tbf they believe in generally good and pleasant things. However it’s because they profess to be the true Islam that they aren’t left alone by the mainstream Muslim sects. by Omni_chicken2 (Sun 7th Mar 2021 12:17pm)
  • No you’re absolutely right that I’ve no evidence of mental illness, I was just echoing the statement of the Ahmaddi caliph and reports from members of that community. It appears his family have refuted claims of mental illness, and consider it an ad hominem attack. I would hesitate to characterise the murderer as “mentally ill” as I have no wish to excuse his behaviour in any way. by Omni_chicken2 (Sun 7th Mar 2021 1:58pm)
  • I get where you’re coming from but that then runs the risk of a hypothesis no longer in vogue, that all crime is symptomatic of mental illness. Especially for crimes such as murder, if there is mental incapacity then there can be no mens rea, therefore it can never be murder. Hence murder no longer exists. by Omni_chicken2 (Sun 7th Mar 2021 7:05pm)
  • This is still very common amongst the Pakistani diaspora in Glasgow. They tend to call it a "committee", and yes, I too have struggled with the point of it, but essentially it's a way of increasing your purchasing power. Not everybody has a credit card, and immigrants and refugees sometimes don't even have bank accounts, so to them it makes sense. There's also a significant community element to it. by Omni_chicken2 (Tue 27th Apr 2021 11:59am)

  • I'm referring, quite clearly, to the suggestion that rangers fans spent those 9 years beating up their wives. by Omni_chicken2 (Sun 16th May 2021 11:40am)
  • Bringing up domestic violence in the first place was whatabouttery. In any case, the myth of domestic violence due to old firm matches has been disputed in this academic study https://www.glasgowtimes.co.uk/news/16401506.old-firm-domestic-abuse-link-misleading-according-glasgow-study/ Now I have no allegiance to either club, or either demographic, but it's absolutely pathetic that you seem to be in competition for who commits LESS acts of domestic violence after their team loses a game of football. by Omni_chicken2 (Sun 16th May 2021 11:49am)

  • I'm surprised that it's Bishopbriggs, that's generally considered a decent area. I would advise contacting the police and advising them of the ongoing problems you're having. They may be unaware of the anti social behaviour in your area. by Omni_chicken2 (Tue 18th May 2021 10:53am)
  • I keep one coat to wear when it's cold but dry, and a big parka I got from GAP for when it's wet and windy. The parka doesn't look great but it's very warm and dry, and that should be your main concern. It's not so much the brand you get as the specific jacket. by Omni_chicken2 (Tue 18th May 2021 11:00am)
  • It's not so much about getting the guys, it's about dissuading them that your street is a good one to be rowdy on. A regular police presence will discourage them from hanging about or using your street as a thoroughfare. If these drunkards are coming from a specific pub or club you can also contact them and ask them to have their security direct punters away from the route leading past your house. If they rubber ear you you contact the council's licensing team. I also think you're having terrible luck with anti social behaviour. However if someone is smashing up their own flat there's not much for the police to do. Also please bear in mind that people like that talk a lot of shit. by Omni_chicken2 (Tue 18th May 2021 11:07am)
  • The city and the people are a reflection of your own psyche at the moment. If you're not comfortable with yourself, how can anybody else be? I admit Glasgow has many, many problems, but you're describing depression, and the reasoning you're laying out doesn't seem like it's unique to the locality. by Omni_chicken2 (Wed 19th May 2021 8:45pm)

Just because we don't live in palaces in the sky doesn't mean that we can't recognise that our lives have in fact been unjustifiably enriched by the slave trade. by Omni_chicken2 (Mon 14th Jun 2021 11:17am)

  • 1 - An actual fly tipping fine is usually £200 2 - a littering fine is £80 3 - all littering fines, while collected by the Council or CSG have to report it to the PF who then chooses whether to prosecute or not. 4 - if you appeal within the 14 days, the 14 day allowance is essentially paused until the appeal is dealt with. 5 - finding names in addresses in dumped litter is often how fly tippers are identified. 6 - there is insufficient evidence to garner a conviction IMO. by Omni_chicken2 (Thu 12th Aug 2021 6:34pm)
  • Realistically they're going to be pushing grey areas in my opinion, however, a job is a job, and it looks like you'll get the opportunity to have a fair bit of fun. • While an appeal is usually unlikely, there's no harm in trying. Having timestamped footage which can accurately show the time between your parking and receiving the ticket is in your favour, however I am unsure whether there is a specific grace period for unticketed cars. That said, an appeal process pauses the 14 day grace period until you get a response so there's no consequence to making an appeal, in fact it gives you longer to pay. by Omni_chicken2 (Thu 14th Oct 2021 3:51pm)

  • If you're concerned about this then just pay it. My reading of that statement is quite clear. It is not possible to pay the reduced charge and appeal, because payment indicates acceptance of the charge. If it said, "it is not possible to appeal against the notice and to pay the reduced amount" I'd be more inclined to agree with you. In any case, why not call GCC and confirm? by Omni_chicken2 (Mon 18th Oct 2021 9:24am)
  • Make sure someone is in the flat with you the next time you expect him. Answer the door as normal. Tell him, " look I appreciate the effort you make with our post, but I really don't have time to come to the door every time I've got mail so please just put it through the letterbox. Thanks." Hopefully this will be sufficient, but if you prefer go the route otherwise suggested of reporting his behaviour. by Omni_chicken2 (Mon 18th Oct 2021 11:57am)

  • Thank you for confirming, I was quite certain in any case because you can't punish someone, or disincentive someone for appealing a decision in the first instance. I take it you were unsuccessful however? by Omni_chicken2 (Mon 25th Oct 2021 8:10pm)
  • I'm not sure you can appeal to the council again, but once you exhaust your appeals you can appeal to the Ombudsman who tends to look at the appellants more favourably. I'm not convinced that Ringo is sufficient to justify a PCN being issued without any grace period but ultimately the decision on that can be challenged by the Ombudsman. by Omni_chicken2 (Tue 26th Oct 2021 1:13pm)
  • It's not as clear cut as that. The response in this instance was proportionate, he didn't have any allies, he could argue that opportunity to escape was limited as the aggressor kept chasing him. He also didn't hit him again after dropping him. This was about as clean a self defence act as you can imagine. Bear in mind, the tests for self defence are stricter if you use a weapon, especially a bladed weapon. If you punch a guy, and he dies, you can't argue that you didn't know he would die, the egg shell skull rule. However, if the aggressor is the one suffering from the eggshell skull, then his wilful recklessness needs to be taken into account. by Omni_chicken2 (Sun 31st Oct 2021 4:10pm)
  • It could be argued, and it's a fair point, however I believe that his vehicle is there, and one is entitled to defend their property as part of self defence. The tricky aspect is the mental aspect of such charges. On the other hand, the Procurator is extremely unlikely to pursue assault charges with any great whim and vigour, when anybody who watches this video will acquit. by Omni_chicken2 (Sun 31st Oct 2021 5:02pm)
  • From the case you were referring to, " If a man uses a lethal weapon against another man and injures him, and the man dies as a result of that injury, intention is really neither here nor there; you have done a reckless thing by striking a man with a lethal weapon, and, if he dies, the person who strikes the blow is guilty, at least, of culpable homicide. In some circumstances it may be murder. In this case the charge is a charge of culpable homicide, and the question of intention is really neither here nor there in that connexion. It is a question of the reckless use of a lethal weapon producing the death of another man, and that in law is culpable homicide." Another case I recall involved someone intending to scare, intimidate or threaten another party, and went to his house tooled up with bladed weapons. The other party did not take a fright and attacked his would be scarers and ended up dying from stabbing. It was decided that the decision to take such weapons, for whatever reason in itself is so wickedly reckless that it could be substituted for mens rea and a charge of murder could be appropriate. by Omni_chicken2 (Sun 31st Oct 2021 5:54pm)

You're advising OP to commit relatively serious crimes, and I guarantee none of you will help pay his legal bills if he's not eligible for legal aid. OP there's not much more you can do than vent. I was driving to the cemetery today, and as I started moving off from a traffic light I realised a cyclist had been undertaking the stopped vehicles on the left side. I very nearly could have hit her as I didn't expect her to hoon up on that side. Rather than crush her under my car, I slowed down and moved out a little despite her being in the wrong. That said, our upstairs neighbours have a kid and wooden floors and they apparently practice an Olympic level floor routine most weekday mornings so I can see it being annoying, but kids are kids, what you gonna do? If they say anything tell them to call the council. by Omni_chicken2 (Sun 20th Nov 2022 7:03pm)

The private parking agencies remain unable to compel you to advise the driver of the vehicle, without a court order. The cases which found in favour of the parking agencies had no element of identification involved. The defenders accepted they had parked illegally but considered the terms of contract to be unenforceable as there was no consensus in idem. • Very lenient sentence but it seems there may have been some factors that are being sensationalised. The article says she was stabbed, but the report indicates he struck her on the back with a knife. He water boarded her with water from a kettle, but it was described as warm water rather than hot. There's also dispute over how long this torture took place. The victim didn't report to the police, which could be due to fear or because there's more to this crime and the victim's evidence is not sufficient to obtain a conviction of a more serious crime. I think his solicitor will have argued that he intended to cause fear and alarm, but his crimes amounted to no more than assault. The difference between what the prosecutor describes and the article reports is stark. by Omni_chicken2 (Wed 2nd Aug 2023 11:11am)

However supporting a rich, western backed, colonial nuclear power in their ongoing suppression of a people isn't very lefty. I also don't understand how people are accepting the fallacy that a nuclear state being propped up by Western support shouldn't be held to a higher standard than the people it demands we all consider terrorists. by Omni_chicken2 (Sun 22nd Oct 2023 11:13am)

She seems like a pathological liar and wouldn't be surprised if she's been cheating on you while she waits for someone better to come along to drop you for. Eventually liars get caught out, her friends and family will be wise to it soon. You can try to tell them but she'll have more access to them and be able to tell more lies. You need to move on. That's just how it is sometimes. Ultimately if it's a he said she said, more people are likely to believe her. by Omni_chicken2 (Wed 25th Oct 2023 9:14am)

  • DELETED It's illegal to wear jeans in Scotland between the hours of 4pm and 10pm. It's in recognition of the English having taken our trousers at Bannockburn. While Glasgow is definitely more chill, you should absolutely give yourself time to check out Edinburgh. As much as Glaswegians disparage the capital, it's a remarkably beautiful city, and much more geared towards the requirements of tourists. You can take a train that takes like 40 minutes to get there so not hard to get to from Glasgow if you're based here. Apart from that, in Glasgow you can check out the museums as people will tell you, Ashton Lane and Finnieston for a chill vibe, tenants brewery for a tour, Best Kebab for the historical importance, 4 corners for the humans trafficking, city chambers tour to see a remarkably beautiful building, West End for a rat sighting safari...the fun never stops. by Omni_chicken2 (Sat 4th Nov 2023 8:29am)
