  • I went on the tour ages ago, and he was a bit of an arse to someone who didn't want to wear the safety helmet. Fair enough to tell them it is compulsory and to explain why, but he went completely over the top and was actually quite nasty. The tour was great though. Very entertaining. As I remember, they have a money back guarantee if your pics are rejected by the passport office. • Good advice. I worked at Stirling uni while living in Glasgow and found the commute a pain. I've also worked in Glasgow city centre while living in Stirling, and that wasn't too bad. Stirling is definitely more affordable than Glasgow, and it's a nice town. It's quiet, but there are a few nice cafés, restaurants etc and it's easy to get to Glasgow or Edinburgh if you're looking for a bit more. by Scragglebag (Thu 14th Mar 2019 8:02pm)

I think it was actually really good for the kids to be in a familiar environment. They didn't freak out at all. • I hear you - total nightmare. I found shops too pushy. I just spent some time looking at the ones I saw people out and about with and actually stopped a few people to ask them about how they liked theirs. Surprisingly they didn't seem to think that was totally weird. I got a good deal online at winstanley's pram world. Excellent customer service too when a part broke due to an incident that was actually my fault! • I bought one from B&Q. As I picked it up in the shop, an old guy said something along the lines of 'that'll just die hen. Don't waste your money'. It lasted 5 years in the end. I didn't do anything special to look after it. Gave it tap water when I remembered to water it. It seemed to thrive on neglect. I once tried to feed it a dead bluebottle. Realised a few days later I'd made an error of judgement when maggots started crawling out of the trap... by Scragglebag (Sun 14th Jun 2020 9:48pm)
  • I remember I wrote to complain about the lack of enforcement of the smoke free policy - people literally standing at the door of the sick kids hospital blowing smoke in the door. I got a letter back basically saying they don't have resources to enforce. Not satisfactory at all, and illustrative of the attitude to safety at that hospital. I'm not at all surprised to hear that they aren't enforcing mask use. Anyway... congratulations on the new addition to your family. Hope your wee one gets home soon. by Scragglebag (Tue 30th Jun 2020 9:30pm)

  • All our food waste bins have been taken away by the council. They sent us a generic leaflet last week saying that it's because either it's too dangerous to collect them, or because they are contaminated, or some bollocks like that. Now we are supposed to take food waste to the local tip. Right then. Thing is, one of the neighbours in our close is obsessed with bin issues and made sure nobody has been using them since collection was suspended at the start of lockdown. She must have got the memo through her inside sources. Anyway, I reckon the council were looking for any excuse to stop this service. The first of many council services suspended during lockdown that will never be restarted? by Scragglebag (Sat 8th Aug 2020 10:56pm)

  • You could also try an app called Olio. I think it's primarily for food, but people also list household items. Haven't used it recently, so not sure about rules re: COVID. by Scragglebag (Mon 31st Aug 2020 9:31am)
  • Could not agree more. Pretty sure wet grass is one of the least risky things out there. Viruses don't generally remain viable on surfaces for long. And they definitely don't multiply. I mean how would the virus even get there in the first place? People with COVID coughing all over some long grass?! What a ridiculous notion. I get that some people really don't have a good understanding of microbiology/virology and the concept of risk, but they really should avoid posting such absolute shite if they are so ill informed. by Scragglebag (Mon 31st Aug 2020 10:30am)
  • I wonder if restrictions will push people to meet in pubs etc when they otherwise would have gone to each others houses? Or will the people who've been having/going to house parties just carry on regardless? Will be interesting to see what happens. by Scragglebag (Tue 1st Sep 2020 7:19pm)

  • I'd give any nursery that wanted to put info about my kid on Facebook a massive body swerve. Even if it's a private group. Can they not just tell you how your kid is getting on?! by Scragglebag (Wed 2nd Sep 2020 8:56am)
  • I'd like to think they didn't actually know they had it when they went to the pub, which realistically could happen to any one of us who is out and about. On the other hand, just today I heard a fourth hand story of some wee fud who went out to the pub with their pals after having a positive covid test apparently because they didn't want to miss a night out with their pals. I'd be surprised if they have many pals left now. Edit: Actually just read the article. My bad. They are a fud. Might be the same wee fud. Hopefully not a common occurrence. by Scragglebag (Thu 3rd Sep 2020 6:02pm)
  • That was my first thought too, but article says they visited the pub after testing positive. I take that to mean they had their result and knew they had it, not just that they had been tested and were awaiting results. by Scragglebag (Thu 3rd Sep 2020 6:13pm)
  • I got tested the other week. Went to test centre at 11.30am and had results by the back of 8 that night. Very impressed at turnaround time. That was before schools went back though when test centre was a bit quieter. by Scragglebag (Thu 3rd Sep 2020 7:20pm)

  • I would call the number on your test receipt card to follow up. Seems like too long to wait. by Scragglebag (Mon 14th Sep 2020 12:14pm)
  • Just to pick up on one of your points (#2) - while it can take up to 14 days to become symptomatic after a person becomes infected, evidence indicates that people are only infectious at most 2 days before symptoms develop. That's why it is only important to trace contacts from 2 days prior to onset of symptoms. It shouldn't be from date of test or test result, which could be several days after onset of symptoms. by Scragglebag (Mon 14th Sep 2020 10:50pm)
  • I take your point about asymptomatic infections. There is no obvious cut off point at which someone with an asymptomatic infection might be infectious, which complicates contact tracing. Asymptomatic people are less infectious than people who have symptoms, but unfortunately are able to transmit. This, and pre-symptomatic transmission are the key features of this disease that mean it cannot be eradicated. by Scragglebag (Tue 15th Sep 2020 6:42am)
  • B,B& B are great and a very good cause, but just to be aware that they are only doing pick ups at the moment, so you can't drop stuff off at the shop. The wait for a pick up could be quite long - I had a pick up last week, which I booked about 6 weeks previously as the first slot available. by Scragglebag (Thu 17th Sep 2020 12:36pm)

  • The only problem with herd immunity is that people who don't vaccinate their kids for whatever reason are more likely mix with each other, so their level of risk is actually higher. We've recently seen big outbreaks of measles in Europe, and a big increase in cases of mumps among the cohort of young adults among whom MMR uptake was low due to the Wakefield scandal. by Scragglebag (Tue 29th Sep 2020 5:33pm)

  • We had mice in our flat a couple of years ago. Got a pest control guy out from Czm8 pest control. He filled in all the gaps around the flat where they were coming in (mainly at the back of the kitchen cupboards), and problem went away. I honestly can't remember how much it cost, but I don't think it was too bad. The guy was really friendly too. 100% recommend. Don't go for one of the big companies like Rentakil - I remember they wanted to charge me something like £800. Fuck that. by Scragglebag (Fri 13th Nov 2020 9:42am)
