  • Maslows community shop on Southside donates to Asylum Seekers and Refugees who arrive in the city/cou try with nothing. If you have something good quality that would be a great place! by SensibleBedtime (Tue 25th Feb 2020 10:49am)

  • --- Garden Fresh Exotics on Park Road - 2 veg samosas for £1.30. They are huge, made fresh daily by the auntie and the best I've ever had. Plus the people in there are lovely. --- Babylon Café and Palm Tree restaurant, both near Bridge Street Subway Station. Incredible Middle Eastern food, all pretty cheap and again, the friendliness makes them both so welcoming. --- Lucky Cottage Chinese Takeaway on Queen Margaret Drive. The best salt and pepper dishes ever! And very reasonably priced. --- Dumpling Monkey on the corner of Dumbarton Road/Byres Road crossing. All food is delicious and cheap but the soup noodles and pot sticker dumplings are particularly impressive. by SensibleBedtime (Thu 5th Aug 2021 3:29pm)
  • Babylon Supermarket just South of the river used to have big tubs of it in the back section - Think it's pretty popular in North Africa/Middle East. by SensibleBedtime (Mon 16th Aug 2021 5:20pm)
  • Love it. Funnily enough me and a pals also have an inside joke relating to tang. We were in the desert on a trip a few years back (not a common occurrence...) and we had to drink litres and litres of this rehydration solution every day. It tasted fucking horrendous. Just salty, chlorine laced crap. Then the tang came along. Game changer, that stuff makes anything taste incredible. One of my pals would chuck about 10 tablespoons in each bottle and chug it like no tomorrow. We were sure in those amounts the additives must have been doing something horrific to his body. A true tang addict. Still gets a tub of tang every birthday! by SensibleBedtime (Mon 16th Aug 2021 9:10pm)

  • The little electronic shops that rip you off for fixing your phone screen etc usually stock plenty of really old electronics. Seen some pretty hilarious old sunbleached boxes of Chinese tape players etc at the one on Queen Margaret Drive. • Yes but just don't get on deliveroo, uber eats or just eat etc.... Their fees absolutely destroy you. Also really not compatible with businesses trying to create a "feel" or particular style. Your business gets lost amongst hundreds of others, and you essentially get trapped in a circle of trying to supply burgers and chips the fastest, at the lowest price. Get some good social media going, market yourself as a traditional Southern American food vendor with a bit of character and I reckon you'd do really really well. by SensibleBedtime (Sun 5th Dec 2021 12:57pm)
  • True, I do give that a go sometimes. My nights in pubs and bars always seem to get cut short at around 9pm, though. That's when the volume goes up and cokeheads start burbling moretti onto the back of my shirt by SensibleBedtime (Fri 28th Jan 2022 4:37pm)

  • Sounds insulation through wooden floors is generally very difficult - Which is why so many people have issues... Laminate/Wood won't make much difference at all, because the vibration and impact will still be directly transferred through the beams. The best you can do is look at sound dampening measures. Under floor rubber foam panels are quite effective, but pricey. Heavy, thick carpets are the next best option. In the bigger rooms, a thick shaggy rug can also help quite a bit! When I was a student we had big problems with the downstairs neighbours complaining about 'parties'. It was literally me, a fat bastard, in the living room getting up and down occasionally to make a cup of tea. by SensibleBedtime (Tue 15th Mar 2022 10:24am)
  • No problem! Yeah it really depends what it's stuck down with. You might be lucky and find someone has just rolled it down with no adhesive. Worst case scenario is that DIYers are quite fond of horrible spray adhesives that make it a nightmare to get up/destroy the floor underneath. by SensibleBedtime (Tue 15th Mar 2022 10:56am)

  • All they are interested in money and security. If at all possible offer multiple months of rent up front (this is obviously not possible for most people). Lie about your income (if you are on zero hours, just say you estimated your upcoming hours). The calculation they usually use is 36 X (months rent) per annum as financial ability to pay rent. This can be from a combination of you OR/AND guarantors. Meaning if rent is £1000 a month they want to see there is £36k coming from somewhere. So, if you can, get a family member (or more than one) so sign as a guarantor(s). All the agent wants to see is that money is available somewhere. Say you are wanting to stay for a year or more. There's only 28 days notice needed in Scotland and there's no legal obligation to fulfil any 'promises'. Take in mind that it is the Landlord that makes the final call and the agent will throw anyone in that they can to get their fees. Think about what the landlord wants. If it's a decent area, you are both mature, quiet, wanting space, peace and 'somewhere to call home' blah blah blah. by SensibleBedtime (Mon 11th Apr 2022 1:58pm)

  • Especially the big ones like Mitchell Library. Getting into the microfiche collection absolutely blew my mind. For those who don't know - Lots of old records such as newspapers are printed onto small rolls of film called microfiche to save space and avoid preservation problems etc. Go take out a random roll from the Edinburgh Mercury 22 July 1888 or something. I think there's an online map of those storage pod things, or as someone else said just try take it into your work. I always put on a D Lock and one of those loop cables through it to my front wheel. Last month my pal had his front wheel nicked cause they couldn't get the lock off...so settle for just the wheel! I also recommend Next Bikes. They are owned by OVO now I think. Not too dear if you use them for 30 minutes or less. The electric ones are quick, too. No maintenance and can park them anywhere. by SensibleBedtime (Sun 29th May 2022 8:31pm)

  • DELETED Shawlands and surrounding area is a great place to live imo right now and has lots of potential for the future. Finnieston/anywhere West End is ludicrously inflated right now. Sale prices are upwards of 25% above asking... And development space is shrinking as investors have popped up apartments everywhere. It's prime Real Estate but with less opportunity to run than elsewhere in the city. Just a word of advice - With the current state of the economy I'd hold out and save what you can for your deposit for another 6 months. House prices are quite likely to drop as many people default on all sorts of payments. My last flat got sold this month by an investor who owns upwards of 200 properties in Glasgow. The man who did the home report said we're at the peak of a big housing bubble at the minute. Lots of factors including a price bubble hangover from Covid making the market very seller friendly. by SensibleBedtime (Sat 27th Aug 2022 1:41pm)

They could literally see it going toward Easter house the same night. Even phoned it and a couple of times the cheeky git actually picked up and acted oblivious and led them on. Police were called within the hour, tracking details offered etc. Nothing. Sorry. "There is nothing we can do". Really depressing actually. • Don't know if it will work for magpies - But a lot of places by the seaside have kites that look like birds of prey on their roof. Or even just a plastic hawk or something on your roof. Even if it scared half of them enough not to be around your house it would make a difference. Used to live in Woodlands. The seagulls on my attic would drive me absolutely insane. So loud and their population is propped up by overflowing bins etc. by SensibleBedtime (Wed 7th Jun 2023 4:57pm)
  • My advice would be to go through the motions at first. Just light weight practicing the lifts etc. It's still exercise and gets your muscles/mind used to it. If you completely cunt yourself on your first visit you'll be out of action for a week and much bigger risk of getting a pulled muscle or something which will just hurt your progress. I recommend starting a wee notebook with when you've gone and what you did. Helps you track progress and gives a sense of pride when you're having to flip through pages of your own workouts after a while to put in a new entry. Most machines and weights are pretty self explanatory, with little diagrams on most of them. Between that, YouTube, and just watching other people, you'll get off to a good start. Remember the most important thing is consistency. Four hard 25min workouts a week is better than one 2 hour session every 10 days! Good luck! by SensibleBedtime (Fri 16th Jun 2023 8:10am)

  • DELETED Be honest, how much do you make from tips? I worked in hospitality in Glasgow for years, with friends still at some establishments on Byres Road - it's between £2.50 and £6.00 tips per HOUR minimum in the West End. And workers almost never declare their tips as earnings, therefore they are tax free for both them and the business they are working for. Work at Sugo or Paesano 48 hours a week and your real annual earnings are honestly £45k after tax by SensibleBedtime (Tue 27th Jun 2023 7:11pm)
