  • Anybody know what it means I look up my landlord and it's just the letting agency and a Clydesdale Security Services listed there? Shouldn't I be able to actually see my landlords name? Or maybe the Clydesdale bunch own it? by SouthVulf26 (Fri 31st Jul 2020 8:01pm)
  • Don't recommend Pirate. It's a total den atm. Stank of booze, folk hanging about in the (narrow) hallways outside rooms that are absolutely blaring 'tunez'. Tried to take a recording of my band the other week and can barely hear it over the pounding bass/drums coming from one of the DJ rooms. Then got hassle on the way out from some wee prick who couldnt have told you his own name. Pirate themselves not fucked about it. 'CCTV shows no rules were broken' = 'Dont give a shit if its a crap atmosphere/experience so long as nobody smokes in the rooms' Shite for the money and all. • Hey! Its Battlefield/Mount Florida area! by SouthVulf26 (Sun 11th Oct 2020 8:52pm)
  • Thanks very much for your detailed response! Yeah I believe its the fibre to the exchange thats been updated, then they've done some of the flat blocks and not others from exchange to flat fibre... I will see if I can give BT a ring to query Thanks again :) by SouthVulf26 (Sun 11th Oct 2020 8:52pm)
  • Looks like a telephone pole out the back, with wires running to each flat in the entire block (as in our street and all adjacent streets that our back faces) by SouthVulf26 (Mon 12th Oct 2020 10:08am)
  • Totally with you in this one mate, been sticking to the rules as much as possible since March/April and was looking forward to just a little normality before back to the grind. It WILL be worth it in the end, but its hard to have that perspective while we're still in the thick it. Best wishes and I hope you still have a good holiday season! by SouthVulf26 (Sat 19th Dec 2020 8:55pm)
  • I do see your point, and recognise that this isnt what you are implying; but for me the metric for worth it is "was even one life saved, that would have been needlessly wasted otherwise". You know? There will be repercussions to come for a long time though, you are definitely right there. by SouthVulf26 (Sun 20th Dec 2020 1:32pm)
  • Where abouts on Battlefield Road?? by SouthVulf26 (Thu 15th Apr 2021 12:08pm)
  • Way late to answer, but the roadworks sign at the Polmade slip road said it was on til some time today (4th Oct) so should be back to normal tomorrow. Whether it is or not, is the real question... by SouthVulf26 (Mon 4th Oct 2021 4:29pm)
  • Done! by SouthVulf26 (Thu 18th Nov 2021 5:48pm)
  • I recognise a lot of hallmarks of modern human slavery about these situations. Its quite common for people to be brought over to the UK/other Western European countries by less than scrupulous individuals, then have their passports and other identifying documents withheld from them until they 'pay off' their debt. Obviously, this basically never gets paid off. We are trained to notice things like people being picked up by flashy cars and taken elsewhere, while the person themselves may be scruffy or wearing old clothes etc. To be honest, if you see someone who this is happening to repeatedly with the flash car etc I would flag it to: https://www.modernslaveryhelpline.org/ Doesn't mean you should give money of course, just worth noting as I've seen some harsh comments about the beggars themselves in these situations when I think what is more likely is they are being exploited by criminals. by SouthVulf26 (Fri 19th Nov 2021 11:23am)
  • How do you know they are families? If you take out the unverifiable 'family' angle, everything you have described is indicative of a potential modern human slavery situation. Ive always felt it would benefit a modern slave trafficker for there to be an urban myth going around that all their vicitims were actually a huge family of foreign, self-driven criminals somehow living the high life off of £20-£30 a day each by SouthVulf26 (Wed 24th Nov 2021 11:58am)
  • I'm assuming you've capitalised and made a career from being able to eyeball the authenticity and value of gold from a distance, with such certainty! Look, I'm not saying it IS modern slavery, I'm saying, professionally, that there are a lot of warning signs there and it makes more sense to me than a group of 10 being able to support themselves to an individually lavish degree by putting together a days begging each. Surely you can see how something doesn't add up there and it may be worth questioning further? £25 a day; 10 people is £7500/m. Split between 10 is £750/m each. Hardly range rover money. Unless.. the full sum of money is going into a pot for the individuals who seem to be running about with the fancy cars... by SouthVulf26 (Thu 25th Nov 2021 9:10am)
  • To be fair, I have been trained to look out for potential signs of modern slavery, yeah. Which is all I'm claiming, that there are a number of signs in play that would indicate that it would be worth raising to the watchdog. I'll admit I havent read any studies or sources around the average income of a Glasgow beggar, but I do find it hard to believe they're raking in £24k/year tax free, putting them squarely in the top 50% (perhaps even 40% in reality given no tax deduction) of earners in the UK. As I say; not having a go at you about this, and recognise with your previous comment that you will know more than I had assumed about gold etc, but it's impossible for either of us to prove. All I am saying is that it reeks of a modern slavery arrangement so far as I've been trained and I think it's important under those circumstances to report it to the watchdog for investigation rather than make any assumptions. by SouthVulf26 (Thu 25th Nov 2021 12:54pm)
  • https://www.antislavery.org/wp-content/uploads/2017/01/trafficking_for_forced_criminal_activities_and_begging_in_europe.pdf This PDF link (let me know if it doesn't work on Reddit) has some more information that once again correlates strongly to the description you have at the beginning of the thread. Again, what's the harm in raising to the watchdog? Surely better to know for sure? by SouthVulf26 (Thu 25th Nov 2021 5:16pm)
  • Sorry to read this, I can only imagine the pressure you (both) might be feeling. Things can get better, and utilising things like therapy can be a big step in the right direction! I don't know a therapist to recomend, but just wanted to lay out that many workplaces in Scotland are now very reasonable with booking appointment time off for mental health reasons. Particularly (but not limited to) if the sessions are prescribed through the NHS. Provisions for therapy over the phone or on video call are obviously much improved over the last 2 years so coupled with the remote capability it's much more possible for therapy to take place as part of a work day. If your loved one were able to see their GP to discuss their issues and specifically request one-on-one talking therapy they should at least be put on the waiting list which gets that ball rolling. Also, it's my understanding that online remote therapy is possible through specialised websites. I believe some are 'scammy' in that the person on the other end isn't fully qualified (or qualified at all), but its entirely possible one exists if you search that kind of thing up. Even one of the more reputable but less qualified ones may help bridge the gap in a Samaritans kind of way until you find a professional who meets your needs. All the best, and feel free to reach out to me here if you want to talk, I've been through similar experiences in the past! Good luck! by SouthVulf26 (Mon 3rd Jan 2022 8:21am)
  • Bit late to the party, but how do you go about finding international remote jobs? Googling brings up some sits but they just seem a bit... sketchy hahaha by SouthVulf26 (Mon 31st Jan 2022 9:36am)

  • I was in Central last week and didn't see anyone not wearing a mask. Certainly not any kind of majority that would make me ask this question. I smell shite. by SouthVulf26 (Tue 8th Feb 2022 1:23pm)
  • I've noticed recently a trend on Uber that makes me feel pretty scammed tbh. I know the drivers are doing it to make money etc which is their prerogative, it just feels a bit dishonest. 7.20am, taxi to my work is estimated at £12, no surge. Order taxi, the app shows me there are tons of cars around me and I have an estimated wait of 4 mins. Watch the app go round in circles for 20 mins with no driver accepting the job. Finally give up, check again and its £50. The surge pricing is meant to deal with real-time demand, not allow drivers to patch all the jobs so 100 jobs get bundled together into 10 mins to cause a huge artificial surge. The surge always seems to be at x1 or x5, with no in-between and I suspect this is the reason. At least Glasgo cabs says their wait time is 30 mins and I can pre-book accordingly without worrying about just never getting assigned a driver without paying 500% markup by SouthVulf26 (Sat 12th Feb 2022 10:00am)
  • To be fair, I did think this was a thing. My experience is anecdotal so maybe I've just been unlucky. It does seem quite coincidental though. At that time of the morning, folk will feel they have to pay the surge because theyve already waited 20 mins and will be late to work otherwise.. by SouthVulf26 (Sat 12th Feb 2022 1:13pm)
  • Second this, my wife-to-be got her dress here and spoke very highly of the shop and the dress! We also weren't looking to spend tons, and there were a lot of options! Congratulations btw! by SouthVulf26 (Thu 17th Mar 2022 3:52pm)
  • https://discord.gg/qG7hRR4H Hopefully this is allowed. I used this Discord to get really early notifications on when stock came in for PS5s. I've had success buying 2 over the last year or so (one for me early 2021, the second for my brother's christmas). Im not too familiar with Discord to be absolutely honest, but once I wrapped my head around the notifications page I was getting pings every few days and so long as you jump on them straight away you're in with a chance! Good luck! by SouthVulf26 (Thu 17th Mar 2022 4:02pm)
  • I rent a fairly big two bedroom flat not far from here for only £200 more than you're charging for one (small) room. All lets are short-term lets now. by SouthVulf26 (Wed 15th Jun 2022 10:13pm)

  • The charity pages are good, so long as you have what they want specifically and can wait a fair while for pick up. Alternatively, there are FB pages that are built for this kind of thing. Spent 3 weeks trying to shift some desks and chairs, gone in under a few hours once I chucked them up on there. If you're in a flat just give a main door (no flat number) address and say you'll meet outside. by SouthVulf26 (Sun 10th Jul 2022 9:36pm)
  • There two weeks ago going to America, and was pretty quick all around. Arrived 3 hours before the flight to be safe. That said, the wife and I do everything in our power to avoid taking anything but hand luggage as bag check-in etc is always a total drag. Checking in online and skipping all that BS is worth the reduced luggage we can take. Good luck! by SouthVulf26 (Sun 10th Jul 2022 9:34pm)
  • I rate the Inchyras spa facilities quite highly, and their breakfast was good. However, the rooms were pretty underwhelming especially for the cost. by SouthVulf26 (Wed 27th Jul 2022 5:24pm)
  • Used to attend something like this at the Classic Grand years ago. Loved it! Would definitely be interested, so long as it was decently organised! by SouthVulf26 (Tue 6th Sep 2022 4:37pm)
  • I suppose to my mind it would be some of the following: 1) Everything set up prior to start time 2) Nobody getting seriously messed up and causing bother 3) Some form of waitlist/rotation so everyone gets a shot but also not rushed off 4) Instruments maybe? 5) Location is decent (i.e. not Pirate studios haha) Not a stickler for all, and appreciate not all may apply to what you have in mind, just some immediate thoughts! Best of luck by SouthVulf26 (Tue 6th Sep 2022 6:20pm)
  • Heres a nice obscure one: The butcher Winston is trying to get steaks from in the first few episodes is on Clarendon Place next to St George's Cross! The butcher isnt there, but you can definitely recognise the street! by SouthVulf26 (Tue 8th Nov 2022 12:58pm)
  • Heard that silly bastard on the radio last night getting absolutely raging about how no-one uses cycle lanes and theyre more dangerous to pedestrians than cars and every other negative thing he could think of. 0 mention of any evidence or stats, just 'I feel this way raagghhh'. Sadly Im sure plenty agreed with him, but to me it made him seem pretty pathetic tbh. by SouthVulf26 (Wed 9th Nov 2022 12:16pm)
  • Been finding this frustrating and to be honest offputting. Just want to go see a band or show and enjoy a pint. £8+ for a fucking Carlsberg!?!? by SouthVulf26 (Wed 9th Nov 2022 12:23pm)
  • I have waited on a bus on 3 occasions in the last month, and on all 3 occasions did not only the bus not arrive, but neither did the next one. 3 taxi trips I didn't intend to take and 30-40 mins wasted waiting each time, just to get into town! Just glad I dont rely on them for work. by SouthVulf26 (Mon 28th Nov 2022 1:02pm)
  • Ivy Letting have been very good in my experience by SouthVulf26 (Sun 4th Dec 2022 11:45pm)
  • Seconded! Not as cheap as your charity finds, but there are some cool selections in there! by SouthVulf26 (Sun 11th Dec 2022 4:26pm)
  • You will also need to earn a certain amount multiplier over the rent in order to get the flat (it was somewhere around 32x rent last I checked, so on your budget you'd have to be earning £16k/year). If you don't, you'll have to get a guarantor. by SouthVulf26 (Mon 12th Dec 2022 2:49pm)
  • I also second the idea of staying at home and smashing all your spare money into savings. You may be able to take much better advantage of the market in future (though thats a gamble). Rent has absolutely skyrocketed just in the past month or two, and competition is high. Bare in mind if you go into private letting, you also will need a deposit which I have seen climb to 2 months rent on top of our initial rent payment (so £1.5k needed just to move in on your budget) by SouthVulf26 (Mon 12th Dec 2022 2:46pm)
  • https://mouldpro.co.uk/contact/ Speak to Stevie from MouldPro. We had him round for a consultation before deciding on buying our flat, as we had some problem mould areas. Really knows his stuff and wants to help, even just ping an e-mail across and see if he can provide some information! by SouthVulf26 (Tue 13th Dec 2022 10:34am)
  • Sorry to read this and hopefully your situation improves. In terms of job advice there are a few areas that are pretty high turnover and should be hiring. I've heard of plenty success stories with call centers in the past. Some are better than others so YMMV Try looking at Customer Service/Sales for some of these: Tesco Bank Barclays Arrow Global You can also look into some recruitment agencies: Randstad Blue Arrow Hays Sites to check for jobs: Indeed S1 Jobs Monster LinkedIn I've been out of that circle for a while now but they're usually constantly hiring part time/full time at all hours, give decent (paid) training even if you're inexperienced and usually want a quick start. Your CV may need some tailoring to fit these employers if you haven't done this work before. The recruitment agencies may be able to help with this. Best of luck mate! by SouthVulf26 (Mon 16th Jan 2023 4:04pm)

  • Would you be able to give a rough estimate on what kind of rates they charge? Appreciate it may be different between therapists and therapy types, just trying to get a sense by SouthVulf26 (Wed 26th Apr 2023 1:24pm)
  • Hunter Window Cleaning have been good for us! I don't know how local they are to our specific area, but worth a go. £8 to get all the windows of a 2 bed ground tenement done, gets done monthly. Their business card gives the mobile number 077368360086 You can pay by bank transfer, and they've got the details printer on their bank card. If you're not in, they just drop in a card with your amount due on it. by SouthVulf26 (Sat 10th Jun 2023 3:19pm)
  • I should also note: make sure to be absolutely clear that you believe any altercation is driven by homophobia. Im assuming this is true based on the language you describe as being used. You may also wish to try and make contact with more (especially local) LGBTQ+ charities, groups and organisations to help add additional pressure and leverage to any reports you make. If the council get 50 emails and calls in asking to properly look at your cases or else it goes to the press, they are unlikely to ignore. This may sound a bit drastic, but I don't think it's unfounded if you feel under-served after reporting an unsafe incident. These organisations would be better equipped to advise you on this though, just a thought! by SouthVulf26 (Tue 13th Jun 2023 9:59pm)
  • Sadly I don't have much to say that can help your situation practically, but just wanted to write that I'm sorry this has happened to you. I've had some experience with feeling threatened in my own close so I feel at least some of your pain. Try to be ready to record immediately in future so you can capture it ahead of time, and take notes of when/where/who any altercations occur with. Don't let anyone convince you you're being ridiculous, their opinion on the matter is irrelevant. In my experience the police were not much use, but documentation and mounting proof is (unfortunately) the way forward in these scenarios. Raise it, alongside any proof, with your local council body, your local Councillor/MP, the police on 101 (unless it's a direct threat to you in any way, in which case 999, don't be afraid to call there if your gut tells you to) and whatever the area ASBO team are these days. There may also be room to report to the Housing Association if these people rent from from. Continuing reporting through your social workers etc will also add up. 101 will also be the place to make continuous enquiries into the status of your assault investigation. Be consistent and tenacious with reporting any instance however small and it will mount up and become unignorable. Ensure when you report that it is properly tied up with your other reports. Whatever you can do to help regain your security is worthwhile, whether it be the RING camera doorbell you mentioned, extra locks etc. If you have any neighbours you are friendly with, I would advise them of the situation and perhaps even have them do the same reporting that you are doing, if you felt comfortable to ask them. I wish there was a more immediate solution, but this is the primary way I've seen situations like this get resolved. Moving somewhere else is the only 'immediate' solution, but I know thats a) unfair b) difficult in the current climate and ultimately c) unsatisfying. I really do hope you do get some assistance, and that the situation improves. Nobody deserves to be made to feel negatively about their own home space, its nightmareish. Best of luck and good wishes from me and remember that there's always a way forward, even when times are difficult. by SouthVulf26 (Tue 13th Jun 2023 9:55pm)

  • Just to clarify here, whilst it's true that you may not get a great response from the police, it's not a waste of time to report any instances of this behaviour either through 101 or 999 where appropriate. Even if no action is taken by the police themselves, the crime/disturbance reports are additional evidence that other organisations may be able to leverage. Definitely include the police reports in your to-do list for any future encounters (which I hope don't occur) by SouthVulf26 (Wed 14th Jun 2023 11:24am)
  • With respect, (as I understand the point of view of second chances), you should absolutely still report this and them. Not everyone will have the resources to find their stolen stuff and theres a decent chance that a chancer will see this as 'if I get caught, I'll play nice again and they wont report me' leading to further thefts with the sense of no consequence. by SouthVulf26 (Wed 14th Jun 2023 10:59pm)
