  • The only gym with an approaching style would be http://aerialedge.co.uk/ which is a circus school and as such focus a lot on flexibility, core strength and balance. These guys have been there for years and have a good reputation. Bonus: they have an app. Some styles of yoga can also suit your needs. There’s a good Ashtanga yoga school 2 minutes away from George square: http://merchantcityyoga.com/ Judi, the lead instructor has been teaching there for over 10 years and Ashtanga really is a demanding style. As for the hybrid mobility workouts, I am not aware of a gym dedicated only to this practice but I have heard of instructors teaching this stuff. Id recommend you see the people of Lululemon on Royal Exchange square, they should be able to point you in the good direction. by Superbuddhapunk (Fri 7th Jun 2019 2:21am)

  • To know how to cook is a basic life skill, so good for you that you take this initiative. Cooking is very simple, doesn't take a lot of time, and it can be learned very quickly. Many dishes are as simple as boiling water. You need boiling water to cook pasta, rice and vegetables, and also boiled eggs. So that's a great starting point. Other cooking methods that are essential are frying, and cooking with an oven (or a microwave) so I recommend you look for YouTube video on these topics, or you may even ask r/cookingforbeginners As other have suggested in this thread maybe a couple of lessons at a cooking course would help a lot. by Superbuddhapunk (Tue 28th Jan 2020 1:04pm)

  • That’s a bit odd, they’re very clear about the pace - they mention quite often the course takes about 50 hours/week to complete- and the preparatory work they ask for as basic requirements makes it very clear that the don’t fuck around. IIRC you’re supposed to enter the course with a typing speed of 30 words/ minutes, with a basic understanding of ruby, html and CSS. As for the course itself the instructors are there to offer extra support and also the other students. It’s really a basic in this industry to be clever enough to ask for help when you’re stuck by looking for help on google the turning towards your teammates/colleagues and ultimately asking your boss/instructor. I really can’t see how you could put the blame on CodeClan, in my experience 2 out of 5 people working in the industry in Scotland learned through their course, so it must work somehow. Coding isn’t for everyone though, I totally accept that, but it’s a bit odd that you blame others for your limitations. by Superbuddhapunk (Sun 7th Jun 2020 9:14am)

  • > The building is in the Beaux arts style, an interpretation of Renaissance Classicism incorporating Italianate styles with a vast range of ornate decoration, used to express the wealth and industrial export-led economic prosperity of the Second City of the Empire. The exterior sculpture, by James Alexander Ewing, included the central Jubilee Pediment as its centrepiece. Although originally intended to feature a figure symbolising Glasgow 'with the Clyde at her feet sending her manufactures to all the world', the Pediment was redesigned to celebrate Queen Victoria's Golden Jubilee. It depicts Victoria enthroned, surrounded by emblematic figures of Scotland, England, Ireland and Wales, alongside the colonies of the British Empire. Ewing also designed the apex sculptures of Truth, Riches, and Honour, and the statues of The Four Seasons on the Chamber's tower. The central apex figure of Truth is popularly known as Glasgow's Statue of Liberty, because of its close resemblance to the similarly posed, but very much larger, statue in New York harbour. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glasgow_City_Chambers by Superbuddhapunk (Sun 2nd Aug 2020 2:25pm)

I would visit at least because it’s a good location, not far from the heart of the city and in walking distance from the west end, easy to commute with plenty of buses stopping nearby, the Centre for Contemporary Art is a few minutes away and there’s a gym and a yoga place nearby. • I’m just asking, it seems that [for Linn Park GCC keeps cycling on dedicated paths.](https://www.glasgow.gov.uk/CHttpHandler.ashx?id=32405&p=0) I hope you’re being considerate if you’re using your bike on spaces you’re not supposed to cycle on. by Superbuddhapunk (Sun 21st Mar 2021 8:16pm)
  • Look at the GCC leaflet for the park here -> [Leaflet Linn Park](https://www.glasgow.gov.uk/CHttpHandler.ashx?id=32405&p=0) It says next to the map: “Cyclists are welcome in the park, but only on the tarred pathways and at a safe speed.” by Superbuddhapunk (Sun 21st Mar 2021 8:53pm)
  • I don’t know, I’m only pointing to you that Glasgow City Council has dedicated paths for cyclists and do not allow cycling on every footpaths. -> [Leaflet Linn Park](https://www.glasgow.gov.uk/CHttpHandler.ashx?id=32405&p=0) You sound like you like to get into pointless arguments with pedestrians, as so many cyclists do, “mate”. by Superbuddhapunk (Sun 21st Mar 2021 9:04pm)
  • 55 IQ by Superbuddhapunk (Sun 21st Mar 2021 9:08pm)
  • You put me in a position where I have to show you for the fourth time that GCC has restrictions on cycling in the parks. You can look here, it’s explained in simple terms -> [Leaflet for Linn Park](https://www.glasgow.gov.uk/CHttpHandler.ashx?id=32405&p=0) You either are very slow of understanding or just are quarrelsome for no reason. If it’s the latter, you should take your argument with Glasgow City Council, they made this rule. by Superbuddhapunk (Sun 21st Mar 2021 9:22pm)
  • I’m not patronising, there are laws and wether you like them or not they apply to you too. Would you be happy if cars and motorbikes routinely used cycle lanes whenever they like it? No? Of course not. For you pedestrians do not matter and they’d better get of your way. This is a selfish attitude and it’s even worse if you understand that rules are there for everyone’s safety. by Superbuddhapunk (Sun 21st Mar 2021 10:46pm)
  • You did it to get a matching number or fingers and teeth. by Superbuddhapunk (Sun 21st Mar 2021 10:53pm)
  • Exactly that, your reply is rules don’t apply to you and fuck everybody else. You don’t answer when I ask what you think of cars and motorbikes on bike lanes, and if they have a right to use them if they are “considerate and respectful”. You are a hypocrite. 👍 A few cyclist are like that though, why should I be surprised. 😉 by Superbuddhapunk (Sun 21st Mar 2021 11:14pm)

  • Ah, I understand now! That’s the negative attention that you crave? It usually comes with sociability issues and low self esteem. Have you tried talking to someone about it? by Superbuddhapunk (Sun 21st Mar 2021 11:36pm)
  • Talking about assumptions, I’m pretty certain that you are not familiar with the laws that regulate cycling in Scotland. So here, knock yourself out: https://www.parliament.scot/ResearchBriefingsAndFactsheets/S4/SB_14-30.pdf Fines up to £1000 for inconsiderate cycling 🤣 by Superbuddhapunk (Sun 21st Mar 2021 11:45pm)
  • Except that GCC enforces restrictions on cycling in their park as they mention on their park, so by this very text cycling on footpaths is illegal. Thank you for proving my point. • I see that it upsets you that he got UBL. Found the radical extremist! But really killing terrorists is an act of war not murder and I won’t lose sleep over the removal of people who want westerners dead and their civilisation annihilated. After that attacks in Paris six years ago the French government’s troops hunted down the terror cell responsible and unloaded so much bullets in them that the building where they were hiding almost collapsed from structural damage. I think it was a great outcome that these radicals won’t be able to unleash terror and violence on innocent civilians again. Do you have a problem with that? by Superbuddhapunk (Mon 8th Nov 2021 5:59pm)

  • I dropped a lot of weight since April (5 stones, 31kg, 267lbs->197lbs) and what I learned is that diet is the core of the solution. You can’t out exercise a bad diet. I tried many times, sometimes with actual results, but always got back to being obese. I read the book by Allen Carr Lose Weight Now and it helped me develop a healthier lifestyle. by Superbuddhapunk (Wed 8th Dec 2021 5:50pm)
  • The base idea in the book is very simple. You eat only when you are hungry and stop as soon as you feel full. It works for me. I’m the lighter I have been in 10 years. Also to exercise when you are very overweight put a lot of strain on the joints and cardiovascular system. by Superbuddhapunk (Wed 8th Dec 2021 6:03pm)

  • I usually have professional organisers once a year just because I’m a bit OCD. There’s a national organisation with a directory of organisers/declutterer it’s the APDO : https://www.apdo.co.uk/ Last time I’ve checked they were three of them in Glasgow. They’re a bit expensive but capable, at least for the organising side I never had to use them for hoard cleanup. There’s also a Glasgow charity were people with disorganisation disorders meet to help each others, it’s called ClutterChat https://clutterchat.co.uk/ they meet on zoom twice a month. by Superbuddhapunk (Wed 22nd Dec 2021 9:28pm)

As for independence there hasn’t been any progress since the referendum and there’s no indication something is going to happen anytime soon. That’s one of the reason I was a *member* but I start to doubt they can deliver. For me these council elections are the occasion to express my distrust of the SNP, and if the lib dems have cancel Brexit on their manifesto that’s good enough for me to give them my vote. by Superbuddhapunk (Mon 2nd May 2022 10:28pm)

  • Not having cyclists on the pavement protects pedestrians. Is it too much to ask? by Superbuddhapunk (Wed 13th Jul 2022 1:19pm)
  • The solution is cyclists who don’t act like thugs and actually agree to share the city with other commuters. by Superbuddhapunk (Wed 13th Jul 2022 3:33pm)
  • Yes, that’s crazy. Cyclists always complain about incivility yet at the first occasion they are obnoxious to every other road user and often endanger pedestrians by riding in protected spaces. by Superbuddhapunk (Wed 13th Jul 2022 3:54pm)
  • So why you can’t walk 15 minutes anywhere in the city without seeing cyclists riding on the pavement? It is just unruly and unlawful behaviour and the lack of cycle lanes isn’t a valid justification. by Superbuddhapunk (Wed 13th Jul 2022 5:50pm)

  • You know, I don’t give a shit about cyclists and traffic in general as long as public transport works with minimum efficiency. • Do they have boxing classes? by Superbuddhapunk (Wed 28th Sep 2022 2:19am)
  • I have trained in a few places here including the Griphouse, Kynoch’s and Morrisons. The Griphouse has a great team of coach and they are welcoming to all levels of ability and fitness but they have stopped boxing since the pandemic. Good places if you want to try Muay Thai or BJJ. Kynoch is a boxing gym, with beginners classes and the placein itself is quite big and well equipped, but the team of coach there are a bit unfriendly and only have their attention on the regulars. Morrisons would be the best option, it has all you need in a boxing gym, cardio equipment, lifting racks, a ring, a row of heavy bags. The people there are very welcoming. They do not have classes but trainers are friendly and accessible, if you have questions they will go out of their way to explain and show you moves, or you can directly hire them for 121 teaching. If you want to see what a real boxing gym is like I recommend the film Boxing Gym by Frederick Wiseman :) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boxing_Gym by Superbuddhapunk (Wed 28th Sep 2022 2:36am)

  • That’s a pretty complete list. Maybe you could organise that by neighbourhood for convenience. For example the Hidden Lane, the 78 and Kelvingrove are in walking distance, so you could definitely do that in an afternoon. by Superbuddhapunk (Mon 27th Mar 2023 7:23am)

The Steamie in its current version offers constantly updated travel information from Scotrail and links to r/Glasgowmarket, and it’s possible that the commemoration of the day and tune of the day are automated to a degree. by Superbuddhapunk (Sat 17th Jun 2023 2:31pm)
