  • It definitely will worsen congestion, the capacity of the road has practically been halved for cars and lorries. The full effect won't be seen until we are back to 'normal' or the crowds are back at parkhead by YodasGoldfish (Tue 21st Jul 2020 10:15am)

  • I know this is a Glasgow sub, but I stay in Uddingston and have the exact same complaints about South Lanarkshire Council. Until recently the grass in public areas had been left uncut for months and they still haven't resumed bulk uplifts. If you ask them on Twitter when they will start again they just say they don't have a date - what are they waiting for? I read somewhere 'coc'. Cos of Covid. • I moved here from England about 10 years ago so I am in no way claiming to know 'traditional mince and tatties', but I've always seen it as basically cottage pie 'filling' without putting it in the oven and the mashed potato served on the side. by YodasGoldfish (Mon 16th Nov 2020 10:43pm)
  • Could you perhaps make him cottage pie - the way you know - and call it cottage pie NOT mince and tatties. If he likes it, then you can adapt that to be mince and tatties. If he doesn't like it then you haven't ruined his favourite meal because you've cooked cottage pie! by YodasGoldfish (Mon 16th Nov 2020 10:51pm)
  • I'm fed up with all this lockdown shit and restrictions that don't even make sense. You can go to a restaurant for a meal but you can't have a pint of lager? Soft drinks only. • Not really. For a start, define 'well off'? I was talking more about policy on a government level anyway. Eat out to help out was great if you wanted half price burger and chips but I wonder how many cases of Covid can be linked back to that? by YodasGoldfish (Mon 7th Dec 2020 5:50am)

  • Yeah, fuck it. Flick the switch. We don't *need* football boots or waders... The real issue is that it doesn't matter if we have one energy company or seventeen, the price would still be fixed and increase year on year. by YodasGoldfish (Sat 19th Dec 2020 12:14am)

  • When were those bins last emptied? When *should* they have been last emptied? That's your starting point. The issue in that photo doesn't just happen overnight, or even over a week, so the collection schedule is either fucked or ignored. by YodasGoldfish (Tue 16th Feb 2021 10:09am)
  • >blue bins every 2 but we live in a flat so two blue bins do six properties This is an absolute joke! Six flats should mean either six blue bins or two bins being collected 3 x as often. by YodasGoldfish (Tue 16th Feb 2021 10:23am)

  • No. Why would I be? by YodasGoldfish (Tue 23rd Feb 2021 4:47pm)
  • >People tend to buy a property based on what they can afford or their income. We started off discussing if people in Glasgow are getting value for money in terms of council tax and now we are discussing a homeowners income. The two things are completely different. by YodasGoldfish (Tue 23rd Feb 2021 4:49pm)
  • I'm guessing the cost of repairing a pot hole doesn't change with the value of the properties either side of the road. I stay in a two bed flat, my bin isn't any more or less expensive for the council to empty than one a few streets away just because their houses are worth half a million quid. by YodasGoldfish (Tue 23rd Feb 2021 4:57pm)

  • I'm not moaning about anything. by YodasGoldfish (Tue 23rd Feb 2021 9:31pm)
  • A million quid mansion and a bedsit are obviously the extremes. I was thinking more about, say, two 2 bed flats that have a large difference in value *just* because they are in different areas of the city. The residents could have similar incomes and 'cost the council' a similar amount but because one is in a 'better' area and is valued a lot higher, should they really pay more council tax? by YodasGoldfish (Tue 23rd Feb 2021 9:38pm)
  • I said *could have*. Loads of variables (how long they have lived there, did they inherit the property, close to workplace etc) but it is possible. by YodasGoldfish (Tue 23rd Feb 2021 9:55pm)
  • My point is that *just* because someone lives in a more valuable property shouldn't mean they have to pay more council tax. The way we charge council tax isn't perfect. The way we charge income tax isn't perfect either - because of the point you make. I think that charging council tax based on income would be fairer than property value. by YodasGoldfish (Tue 23rd Feb 2021 10:10pm)
  • >Basically, Boris has said June is the earliest so if things don't work out as well as hoped he's going to have to go back on it Boris quite clearly said June is the earliest. Correct. I want to own my own home but it wouldn't be the end of the world for me if I lived in a council owned property. • A railway engineer on another sub told me yesterday they are to be on standby 24/7 and will be getting plenty of OT during COP. I said to him about the strike action and he said the Abellio trains will be running. I don't, however, know what services they are!
