  • Don’t worry, they send threatening letter and even pass you onto debt chasers but if you just explain to the debt chasers you are exempt they stop chasing straight away and send it back to council. Never shows in credit checks or anything either. It’s a total pain but best thing to do is go and see them in the office round the back of George Square (Pitt Street) and speak to someone there. by el_dude_brother2 (Tue 13th Oct 2020 2:20pm)
  • To be honest having lived and wandered around Glasgow for last 20 years there are lots of different type of junkies. Ones that are young and obvious had a shit life who I feel sorry for, others with mental issues again they need helps and support and I feel sorry for them. However there is a group who just cause trouble. It’s been the same guys for 15/20 years and they go around beating up and bullying the vulnerable ones and generally causing trouble. It’s the same well kent faces. So there are people we need to help and there are ones we need to get off the street and put in jail. It’s not a one size fits. I might get down voted but just to point out there is not typical junkie. by el_dude_brother2 (Sun 18th Oct 2020 8:28pm)

  • Not quick but useful survey to fill out. Personally I tried to get them to focus on people walking around the city centre. So get rid of polluting diesel buses (I work on union street and the air quality is horrific) and unused cycle lanes and replace with nice walking places instead. by el_dude_brother2 (Wed 28th Oct 2020 12:34pm)
  • Well I used to live beside the one that runs to the east end of the city which was built for the Commonwealth games (ends on St Andrew’s Street and goes along London road) and it’s extremely rare to see anyone on it. It’a also common to see cyclists on the road beside it not using the lane. A safe and nice looking walking pathway out to Celtic park or the emirates stadium makes much more sense to me than a cycle path. by el_dude_brother2 (Wed 28th Oct 2020 1:11pm)
  • Fair enough, everyone entitled to their opinion. I just think they take up a lot of space and don’t really do the job. I am a cyclist as well as a driver but much prefer walking. I also think concentrating on cycling helps the smallest number of people whereas a walking place or a pedestrian zone in city centre would help everyone, businesses, air pollution etc. by el_dude_brother2 (Wed 28th Oct 2020 7:31pm)
  • Yeah that was the theory but it doesn’t happen. As I said I used to live beside it and it doesn’t get used. Also at velodrome you need to hire a special bike to use it so not like you just use the one you brought. Just saying it doesn’t get used and/or maintained a walking lane would of been used all the time. Ps I am a cyclist and use other cycle lanes so understand they can be important if property set up. by el_dude_brother2 (Wed 28th Oct 2020 7:50pm)
  • I thought some of it was worded like they had already made there minds up about things and just wanted you to agree with them to justify it. Not the best survey. Agree as well those revenue questions were weird and vague. by el_dude_brother2 (Wed 28th Oct 2020 8:18pm)
  • Just better walking systems. Can’t see how cycle lanes can help disabled access unless you ban bikes and make them for mobility scooters only (which would actually be really cool!). by el_dude_brother2 (Wed 28th Oct 2020 8:20pm)
  • I’m not advocating motor traffic, definitely not. I actually think buses get too easy a time as public transport however they pollute a lot and make the road dangerous by driving too fast in town. Look at union street. I also just think walking over cycling. They always put the two together as if they are the same but they’re not. All the money always goes to building cycle lanes but I don’t see much else happening. Also I agree outside cafes, restaurants would be great and should be a priority. by el_dude_brother2 (Wed 28th Oct 2020 9:30pm)
  • Pretty sure that mobility scooter is breaking the law but fair play to them. Hopefully when they sort out the electric scooters law they sort out that too. However if it was a walk way it would be all good and the bikes can go on the road. by el_dude_brother2 (Thu 29th Oct 2020 12:37pm)

  • I support people shopping at local businesses but also worth remembering that a lot of people work in high street shops. So they are also worth saving too and part of the economy. If you have a shop you like and want to support to make sure it’s still here next year then please use them too. by el_dude_brother2 (Sat 21st Nov 2020 1:01pm)

  • Around central has always been bad although it got worse maybe around 5/6 years ago with all the new ‘legal highs’, the junkies became really visible. I’ve not been in town for a while now so not sure if it’s got even worse but I would try and move away from it. It’s just not going to improve there for many reasons but there are lots of places around Glasgow that have and are nice and safe. by el_dude_brother2 (Sat 21st Nov 2020 11:24pm)
  • You just shouldn’t give them money that way. It just goes to drugs and encourages them to do more. Donate £2s to a homeless charity instead. by el_dude_brother2 (Tue 24th Nov 2020 7:53pm)
  • Definitely something dodgy about the Paddy Power shop on union street (might be same area). Dodgy folk are always there. by el_dude_brother2 (Tue 24th Nov 2020 7:51pm)
  • It encourages them to do more begging instead of engaging with systems which might help them longer term. No not my choice how they spend it but my choice whether to give them money or not. I would prefer to give money to the big issue sellers who are trying to get back on their feet. Feeding their addiction is a never ending cycle which results in hospitalisation, amputations or even death. It helps short term but not long term. Giving them cash in the street doesn’t help them. by el_dude_brother2 (Tue 24th Nov 2020 10:48pm)
  • Well if you were buying hard drugs with it then yes. by el_dude_brother2 (Wed 25th Nov 2020 3:21pm)

  • Maybe you’re right. I was told about the land by the person who ran the science centre at the time but the wind makes a lot of sense as well. I’m not a geologist. Either way it is unsuitable place for it. by el_dude_brother2 (Mon 1st Feb 2021 9:33am)

  • I think the problem is Sturgeon is generally liked and seems capable but the rest of her cabinet and inner circle not so much. So they think if they get rid of her independence will just go away. I don’t think it’s true just what they think. Still not sure what Salmond is getting out of this but considering the type of works he’s done since he quit as leader would guess it’s cash. by el_dude_brother2 (Fri 5th Mar 2021 6:50pm)
  • Young people who work in pubs are not at risk. Vaccinations don’t stop you getting it so making them skip the queue would have zero effect. by el_dude_brother2 (Fri 5th Mar 2021 10:43pm)
  • The point of the article is that it will persuade young people to get the vaccine, which it would. Same as countries like Cyprus saying you need to have both doses before you can go there on holiday. Only really a problem for the anti vaccers so don’t see that problem. by el_dude_brother2 (Fri 5th Mar 2021 10:47pm)
  • Probably the same person. She is keen on the total elimination of the virus strategy. Which is really tough and hard to implement long term. She’s an advisor but they don’t need to (and won’t) follow everything she says. by el_dude_brother2 (Fri 5th Mar 2021 10:46pm)

  • I mean, you can easily Google it to see I’m right but whatever. All vaccines and viruses act in different ways. by el_dude_brother2 (Fri 5th Mar 2021 11:11pm)
  • Yes, I’m presuming the OP was suggesting we vaccinate the young bar staff for Covid so they either don’t spread it to customers or else stop them from getting ill. Just pointing out both were flawed ideas so no reason to make them skip the queue. by el_dude_brother2 (Fri 5th Mar 2021 11:15pm)
  • Young people in general are not high risk of getting seriously ill from Covid by el_dude_brother2 (Fri 5th Mar 2021 11:23pm)
  • They will get prioritised anyway. The OP was suggesting we give all young people who work on bars the vaccine first if they are going to reopen. I was just pointing out that was stupid and we would be better sticking to current priority lists by el_dude_brother2 (Fri 5th Mar 2021 11:27pm)
  • Yes agree and I think my comments alone looked like that. But was replying to someone who specifically said (and has lots of likes) to vaccinate young people who work in bars and was just pointing out others deserve it first. by el_dude_brother2 (Fri 5th Mar 2021 11:36pm)
  • Everyone is getting vaccination you idiot. You’re advocating that young people who work on bars skip the queue ahead of older more vulnerable people which is just stupid. by el_dude_brother2 (Sat 6th Mar 2021 7:31am)

  • Along with weekend parking charges they reduced the stay limit to 3 hours (from 4) and greatly increased the cost. Did it beside my flat in Merchant city, was so annoying an inconvenient and they never really said why they did it as there wasn’t a parking problem before. by el_dude_brother2 (Wed 7th Apr 2021 6:44pm)
  • Sorry to pile on but if the mortgage companies are hesitant it should be a warning sign about resale value. Need to consider when you want to move on, the flat may take a while to sell and you shouldn’t expect huge value growth. Also home insurance will probably be higher. by el_dude_brother2 (Thu 8th Apr 2021 10:26am)

Can see why that would cause hostility if it isn’t know that it’s part of a cycle network too as I would be shocked to see a bike on the bit near me. by el_dude_brother2 (Wed 5th May 2021 8:53pm)
  • Just checked and it’s a mountain bike trial which makes more sense now to me. It’s not a normal bike path which I was questioning. by el_dude_brother2 (Thu 6th May 2021 11:12am)
  • Well it’s not paved it’s mud so not suitable for a road bike and it says it’s a mountain bike trial in Wikipedia. Not much other information I can find about it being a bike path. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clyde_Walkway by el_dude_brother2 (Thu 6th May 2021 11:35am)
  • Yes I think so. Didn’t realise there was a paved part so that all makes sense now. I live near a very muddy part between Cambuslang and Bothwell/Blantyre Bridge. by el_dude_brother2 (Thu 6th May 2021 12:05pm)
  • Few recommendations: Climb the water tower in the lighthouse for good view of Glasgow. Stand comedy club (when it opens). VR Simulators if you like driving or VR Room Glasgow if you like shooting things. Enjoyed both and a bit different. 9 ball pool at Reardons near Central station. Glasgow Wakepark, not far from city centre and great fun. Pretty easy for beginners to do. Would always recommend live music or going to see a Glasgow Warriors game but both hard at the moment. Hope this helps. by el_dude_brother2 (Sun 9th May 2021 7:54pm)
  • Yeah Warriors games are great, fingers crossed they will be back next season. • Yeah I think Rangers and SPFL need to take some blame for making this a thing. They could of presented them the trophy when they won it weeks ago but left it to last game of the season to make it into a thing. by el_dude_brother2 (Sun 16th May 2021 4:06pm)
  • Of course they did and they would of made a huge fuss if they hadn’t been, by el_dude_brother2 (Sun 16th May 2021 8:33pm)
  • Rangers are SPFL members so of course they have a say. That’s pretty conclusive proof but guessing you’ll just argue for the sake of it. by el_dude_brother2 (Sun 16th May 2021 9:53pm)
  • In normal circumstances it would be fine but obviously a bad idea in current circumstances and given what happened when the league was won. Pretty tone deaf to not see it was a bad idea given what happened. by el_dude_brother2 (Sun 16th May 2021 11:01pm)
  • No football league trophies can be awarded when it becomes official so in Rangers case a few weeks ago. SPFL and Rangers were irresponsible end of story. Same reason why fans in Glasgow can’t get open top bus tours, because they cannas handle it. They were fighting with each other ffs. by el_dude_brother2 (Sun 16th May 2021 11:26pm)

  • Well I got through straight away when I called dead on 8am but accept I may have been lucky. Waiting doesn’t take too long anyway so it shouldn’t put people off calling. by el_dude_brother2 (Tue 25th May 2021 7:42am)

  • I’m not going to bother with your arguments as they are not worth it and easy debunked but you are obviously in a state where you would ignore real evidence so what would be the point. I would recommend you do some reading about conspiracy theories and how to get yourself out of your current mindset. It can happen to anyone so don’t be ashamed but act now before it costs you more of your life and friends. Maybe even try a news and internet detox to reset yourself. Try a couple of weeks or a month living in the physical world and see the difference it makes. Good luck. by el_dude_brother2 (Tue 25th May 2021 3:51pm)
  • The vaccines are all approved for use and have been through the relevant trials, this is so easily debunked. Part of conspiracy theories tricks is to take information from credible sources and manipulate the user to believe it is saying something different to what it is actually saying. It’s the same formula used for them all. by el_dude_brother2 (Tue 25th May 2021 6:52pm)

There was a good chat about it here - https://www.reddit.com/r/glasgow/comments/5xdvc7/how_did_glasgow_get_such_a_clean_street_grid/. I guess we were one of the first cities to do it along with the New Town in Edinburgh. There is also a small Statue of Liberty at the top of the city chambers building overlooking George Square. by el_dude_brother2 (Thu 1st Jul 2021 12:19pm)
  • It’s not been mentioned yet but in Glasgow and the West they also have Republican matches which celebrate Republican terrorists groups, mainly the IRA who killed many people during the troubles. Orange Order marches tend to be larger and bring out more spectators. They have a massive one on the Saturday before the big march in Belfast around the 12th of July (Battle of Boyne). People come over from Belfast for it, Scots go over the Belfast for the Glorious 12th marches. Both sides are just as bad as each other and don’t belong in a civilised society IMO. I used to live near Glasgow Green and there was a march nearly every week during the summer. by el_dude_brother2 (Thu 1st Jul 2021 11:24pm)
  • How is marching celebrating terrorists in any way good? by el_dude_brother2 (Thu 1st Jul 2021 11:49pm)
  • I don’t support either side. What part of BOTH AS BAD AS EACH OTHER didn’t you understand? Having lived through thousands of marches in Glasgow over 20 years I can safely say that all sectarian based marches are stupid and should be banned, Orange or Republican. It annoys me when one side tries to make excuses for their own march because they think they’re right or in some way have the moral high ground or even worse use whataboutary as an excuse. No, both should be put in the bin. Defending any of them and you are part of the problem. by el_dude_brother2 (Fri 2nd Jul 2021 12:00am)
  • Both sides like whataboutary just as much as each other. by el_dude_brother2 (Fri 2nd Jul 2021 12:20am)
  • You’re part of the problem. Making excuses for one side because it’s your side. Both are stupid and don’t belong in a modern society. Both glorify terrorists who killed innocent people including women and children. Why do we allow them to march on our streets? by el_dude_brother2 (Fri 2nd Jul 2021 3:35am)
  • ‘Yes but’ is never a good start. I know what you’re trying to say but you’re giving excuses for people who killed innocent people doesn’t help anyone. I’m sure ISIS, Al Queda all had good reasons in their minds for what they did/do but doesn’t make it any better. The IRA killed hundreds probably thousands of Catholics and Protestants and causes years of hurt. Marching through Glasgow to celebrate them should be an insult to all normal thinking people. And you should give them no excuses, they were cold blooded killers. by el_dude_brother2 (Fri 2nd Jul 2021 11:01am)

  • Yes agree, let’s ban all sectarian marches in Glasgow. by el_dude_brother2 (Fri 2nd Jul 2021 11:10am)
  • Ah okay, so it is because your dad says it is. Makes sense now. by el_dude_brother2 (Fri 2nd Jul 2021 11:21am)
  • I’m not defending the march, I hate it as much as anyone else. I have had to wait for them to pass every summer for 20 years and they have hugely disrupt led my life. Just you spreading lies on the internet annoys me. Instead of everyone just upvoting your lies i think it’s worth someone calling you out and telling you the truth. Reddit is full of lies enough. by el_dude_brother2 (Fri 2nd Jul 2021 11:26am)

  • There’s been a plan to make more use of the river for 20 odd years. Lots of reasons it’s not taken off but main ones are: 1. Glasgow City Council are useless (and possibly corrupt) 2. Scottish Enterprise are absolutely useless at everything. The money’s been there and spent but in the wrong projects in the wrong places. by el_dude_brother2 (Mon 30th May 2022 7:04pm)

  • They’re probably remortgaging to take out some equity and buy another flat. With prices going up in the area it makes sense to do that now. Shouldn’t affect rent as the valuation would just be a selling valuation but can never rule out rises at any time. Remember you can always negotiate, if they ever try to raise your rent too high. It’s a hassle and costs to find new tenants so if you negotiate they might be inclined to accept. by el_dude_brother2 (Tue 7th Jun 2022 10:50pm)
  • I have kids who are the same age and Kelvingrove isn’t that good for them to be honest. They love the transport museum though, more room to run about. by el_dude_brother2 (Tue 14th Jun 2022 9:19am)
  • Definitely the Transport Museum (called the Riverside museum on the Red bus). My kids are exactly the same ages and love it. Lots of space to run around. Would avoid Kelvingrove with small kids, not that good for them. Hop on bus is great idea. Other ideas The necropolis is pretty cool (near Glasgow Cathedral) and gives a good view of Glasgow. Wander down Buchanan Street, go into Princess Square, St Enoch Centre, Get the underground (it’s fun to do) to Byres Road and wander around the Botanics Gardens (there’s a play park there). For food, my kids love Pizza so would either take them to Paesano (one in town or one in west end) or Mozza (also one in town and one in west end). Also Nando’s is always good and everywhere. by el_dude_brother2 (Tue 14th Jun 2022 9:26am)
  • And the extra crossing at the forth cause it was an ‘emergency’. Took all the extra cash earmarked for a few projects including the rail link. by el_dude_brother2 (Thu 16th Jun 2022 10:33pm)
  • A few things, the government had to pay for Edinburgh Trams and then the 3rd crossing at the Forth so haven’t had enough cash to pay for the rail link. Also Glasgow city council bought up the land from dodgy gangsters when it looked like it was gonna go ahead, and then sold it back to them on the cheap afterwards. So we would need to buy it back again at inflated price. by el_dude_brother2 (Thu 16th Jun 2022 10:30pm)
  • The competition commission said the owners couldn’t have Glasgow and Edinburgh airport so they forced the owners to sell one and they chose to sell Glasgow. The new owners have not Invested anything into Glasgow whereas Edinburgh has had a lot of investment. by el_dude_brother2 (Thu 16th Jun 2022 10:40pm)
  • Kind of. It was more that the money had to go to Edinburgh to bail out the trams and then the forth bridge. Glasgow got M74 extension at same time. Hopefully one day we will get crossrail and the Glasgow airport rail link by el_dude_brother2 (Fri 17th Jun 2022 9:23am)
  • Yeah I always drive past those football pitches and think about that cause no one is ever playing on them. They were only going to lose a 3rd of them or something and get new changing room etc in return. People just like to complain. by el_dude_brother2 (Fri 17th Jun 2022 9:21am)

  • £50m seems a lot for an area outside the city centre which is still not going to be nice to sit in due to a massive motorway underneath it. Better to create more pedestrian areas in city centre imo. by el_dude_brother2 (Fri 24th Jun 2022 12:59pm)
  • Calling government agencies and quangos to task. They spend millions of public money every year but get such an easy time in the press compared to 20 years ago. Scottish Enterprise for example waste over £200m a year for very little reward. Newspapers and TV generally just publish there press releases as the truth instead of critiquing them. Anyone who has worked there will tell you stories of huge amounts of money wastage and a group of highly paid execs just waiting for big payoffs to leave. Would love for more public awareness and scrutiny around them and other quangos as it’s the only way to get MSPs attention, otherwise they just keep signing those cheques. by el_dude_brother2 (Thu 7th Jul 2022 4:30pm)

  • Interestingly around Central station was (20 years ago don’t know figures now) officially the most crime ridden place in Europe according to the police. As in most people lifted or crimes reported in an area. A lot of it was fights at the taxi rank on a Saturday night but still mental to be the worst in the whole of Europe. by el_dude_brother2 (Thu 8th Sep 2022 11:56pm)

  • I guess it represents southern states where country music was born. It’s only a relatively recent thing that people are associating it with all the negative side of the confederacy but imo that’s a unfair portrayal. The people fighting weren’t fighting to keep slaves as most of them were poor farm workers. They were fighting for the right of their state to exist and make their own laws. I can see why the US is threatened by the flag as it also represented a real risk to their own existence so they have tried to undermine it any time it appears now. I recommend watching Civil War by Ken Burns to understand the confederacy beyond the negative flag stories. by el_dude_brother2 (Sat 17th Dec 2022 1:11am)
  • Only if you go back and watch the rest of it and not just episode 1. by el_dude_brother2 (Sat 17th Dec 2022 9:51am)
  • Pretty simple It was about Southern states not being happy being told what to do by the Northern states. It was about state power versus the power of the federal government. Yes some southern leaders had slaves but that’s not why the war started or why thousands of soldiers signed up to fight for their state. Alexander Stephens was against Secession btw so even if he gave that speech that wasn’t the reason for the war. Also finally abolishing slavery wasn’t even announced by Lincoln until half way through the civil war when he saw an opportunity to weaken the southern by incentivising southern slaves to rise up against their masters. by el_dude_brother2 (Sat 17th Dec 2022 11:21am)
  • There were slave owners on both sides so that wouldn’t work would it? The flag represented the states who left the union. I’m obviously not trying to say owner slaves were good or that the outcome of the civil war and the freer of slaves was anything but the best outcome. However to simplify that the US civil war was only about slavery is wrong. Therefore I can understand the flag has a cultural element to some people around the southern states joining together and being a independent country instead of part of the wider US. by el_dude_brother2 (Sat 17th Dec 2022 2:55pm)
