  • Buchanan st has the most footfall in the city center from the shopping mall down to argyle st it's mostly pedestrian precinct but because of that usually busy with other buskers, other shopping streets in the area are sauchiehall st and argyle st but they are kinda fading a bit now. Outside the city center the west end is probably your best bet with byres road being the best area. Not sure if police acceptance but there are always buskers around, Good luck! by sunandheir13 (Mon 27th Jun 2022 1:03pm)

Plenty of bars like oran mor will do haggis or other Scottish food and there are a few high end Scottish food restaurants in the west end, fish and chips with a deep fried mars bar is pretty Scottish too πŸ˜… by sunandheir13 (Mon 24th Oct 2022 7:35am)

  • I worked as an engineer for sp energy network and I am going to guess he drilled through the close electrical service cable. The explosive potential of electricity is less well known than getting electrocuted but it is very very dangerous to damage any electric equipment that is on the street side of supply as the protective equipment is very remote! Hopefully the guy is alright but the potential is he is badly burnt 😬πŸ₯² by sunandheir13 (Fri 28th Oct 2022 6:33pm)
  • I have seen them embedded in the close wall, the older 'electicity board' cables don't usually have pipework though the older cables are armoured, this is all supposition but if he was working on close lighting at the close mouth and it was a load explosion there is a likelihood of it being before the cablehead. The cablehead also has protection fuses to minimize issues on cables after it going into the close for isolation. Which also means It also could be he was trying to isolate the supply from the cablehead and it went bang. The board equipment is getting very old and the older 'ironclad' cableheads could be a bit dodgy. by sunandheir13 (Fri 28th Oct 2022 7:30pm)
  • One of the potential issues is the protective fuses for the close cablehead and close service cable are back at the main substation with 400A fuses and that could be a couple of hundred metres away! Low fault level and they can take time to clear! As an aside It was no fun manually replacing these fuses if they blew on a transient fault, but trying it back in was the only option to see if the fault was persistent or not, those were the days 🀦🏻‍β™‚οΈπŸ˜¬ by sunandheir13 (Fri 28th Oct 2022 8:09pm)

The walk along the white Cart from there to Pollock park onto Shawlands is a lovely walk, though more should be done to enhance it. • I was an engineer for Scottish power for 30 years, there are different level of power cuts based on what equipment faults, starting with low voltage, then high voltage, then extra high voltage and finally transmission. The higher the voltage the more of the city goes off, but also the rarer the fault. Dips in power (rapid off then on again) are usually caused by networks adjacent to the fault which can draw a lot of power before the fault is automatically cleared. If you are on the network that clears you will be off until the fault is isolated. If you are just an adjacent network you can just see a dip in power. Transmission faults can cause district wide dips but are usually very quick to return to normal. Unfortunately as well these dips can also be repeated over a number of hours as one of the only ways to find a fault is to partition the network and close the switch to see what happens. If it trips you have won a watch and you go back to bed once you isolate it and put everyone's supply back on! Ah, those were the days....πŸ˜‚ by sunandheir13 (Tue 11th Apr 2023 10:45pm)

The train line is the central to Partick stopping at exhibition centre and the 18 goes to the end of sauchiehall st. If you have plenty of time there is also the 90 to Partick πŸ˜‚. • The worse type of fault are those on the low voltage system. This usually just covers a single or couple of streets and the protection that cuts off the fault is very low tech. It's actually just a big fuse rated at 400amps. This will blow if there is a fault on the low voltage cable. Now the thing is, because the fault is on a buried cable the company doesn't know where it is 🀷🏻‍♂️ and a funny thing is that a lot of these faults come and go so the best way to restore supply is to bang another fuse in and see what happens. This can immediately blow again or last for weeks! You unfortunately sometimes have to wait till the fault develops before you can find it by digging up the street and this can take a few replacements of the fuse! Putting a 400 amp fuse into a fault manually at 3am back in the day was so much fun 😳 keep phoning and complaining if you keep going off is my best advice πŸ˜ƒ by sunandheir13 (Fri 28th Apr 2023 9:31am)

Best thing I ever saw was huge valve rectifiers full of mercury at the Finnieston crane 😳 apart from that the network still has some kit that is pre war though not much hopefully these days πŸ˜‚ there are probably many buried cables though dating from the twenties. Whenever anyone digs up city center streets they find the old DC cables, great for them as they are full of copper, we had to try and identify them using 100 year old maps. • I remember when the kelvin flooded at that location and ran into the main railway line then flooded out at the sec. I was on standby that weekend and remember looking at the river that was torrenting where the exhibition station is, then having to wade almost hip deep into the (was it the Crowne) hotel on the Clyde riverbank πŸ€” to check if their power supply wasn't underwater. After that they raised the ground at that entrance. by sunandheir13 (Wed 28th Jun 2023 3:50pm)

If this facility is going to be huge the site at Cochno may be related to the massive grid level substation on it called Windyhills. This feeds a big area of north west Glasgow 🀷🏻‍♂️. • Where have we gone wrong that we can't afford to maintain all that empire wealth generated real estate? I suggest we band together, get ourselves another empire, make another underclass of low paid labour living in slums to produce goods for that empire while we cream off the profit to pay for maintenance of our glorious estate! • I worked 30 years in the corporate world for Scottishpower and they definitely had community engagement teams, I would say most large corporate identities do. For Scottishpower it would be focussed I would think on green energy, electric safety or careers in Scottishpower but it's a big and diverse company so who knows! Unfortunately I no longer work for them so can't point you to a number but would be sure that they will have a section on their website that points to community engagement! by sunandheir13 (Tue 15th Aug 2023 9:36am)

  • The whole market is a bit slow with the high mortgage rates, just taking longer in general to shift I think. Some areas the numbers are building up, lots of reduced and fixed price. Hot areas in the west end and south side still go relatively quick though. But not seeing the megabuck asking over prices of a hot market. by sunandheir13 (Tue 21st Nov 2023 8:30pm)

  • If you are going to the west end at the weekend check the parking zones. Some are on 7 days a week and some are off on Saturday and Sunday with most being off on Sunday Only. On Saturdays you can park in Park and around Yorkhill. For free parking for visiting byres road 7 days a week there is the area kirklee behind the botanical gardens and thornwood along Dumbarton road. Both are usually busy but if your luck is in or you are early enough and dump the car it works, as both are in easy walking distance of byres road. by sunandheir13 (Mon 11th Dec 2023 8:20pm)
