  • Hi. I'm an ESL etc teacher here in Glasvegas and host a weekly Zoom'versation group. It's a lovely wee group of folk here and abroad from roughly PreInt to Advanced. It's largely speaking, with a dose of grammar in the middle. It's Wednesdays 6 - 8pm, via Zoom. Cost is £6 each per session for those that can afford it. I've had the offer out there for a couple of months that new immigrants / refugees etc are welcome to join in for free, though curiously I've had nobody take me up on that just yet. • I'm Aussie, but live in Glasgow these days - and I spent a few years in Paris a while back, so here's my 2 cents' worth... If you've not travelled properly before, Glasgow would be the easier choice re language, culture, and food. And it's **much** cheaper. Here, you'd enjoy heaps of nightlife, music and Art and perhaps get to know the city fairly well. Despite what you might have heard about violence here, it's more just between local rivals - so there's really nothing to fear as a foreigner. Paris is quite intimidating at first, and the locals aren't nearly as welcoming as folk in other French cities - particularly if you don't speak French well. If I had my chance again, I'd go to Lyon, Toulouse, or Marseille for a proper French experience over dingy Paris any day. by talldaveos (Mon 4th Jan 2021 1:23pm)
  • Just a random thought... Could it be "Hee", similar to 55378008 when read upside down on a calculator?? by talldaveos (Sun 24th Jan 2021 10:52am)
  • This is flat & reasonably safe. The weird loops, like the bridge over the M8, are useful. I'd be happy to guide you along the route, or the other way along the river, if you like - any excuse to get out of the house would be welcome. • If you look into the routes/ history, you should be able to find speed/ course data. With that you'd be able to narrow down whether it's a road cyclist/ runner/ mountain bike etc - then contact the right social media group (Meetup/ facebook etc) for specific help. If there's a notes section, you might even find a "If found please return to.." Also, check under the battery cover if the back is removeable. by talldaveos (Wed 24th Feb 2021 8:21pm)
  • At 6', I imagine a 22" would be about right, but almost nothing is standard - regarding either bikes or arm/leg length - so of course YMMV. The *seemingly* cheapest would be a stolen bike for maybe £50 from round the Barras, but after you add in the cost/ hassle of replacing the bearings, grips, brakes, tubes & tyres, it's really not good value at all. And £500 new at a retail bike shop won't buy much to be proud of. But a good bit less than £300 will get you something really great somewhere like Bike for Good etc. They take in good-quality older bikes and rebuild them with proper modern brakes and tyres. My partner's bike was a steal at £125 some years ago. Anything comparable new would've been silly money more. And she likes it much more than the old $2000 touring bike. • That's a shit. You prolly don't need to replace the tyres if it's only a needle puncture. Or add a tyre boot patch (or some gaffer tape) to the inside of the tire. And for small puntures in the innertubes, sticky patches work fine. Park products are the best for the price. • What the others said re all the added costs, and/but even just 1 or 2 km from the city centre in any direction will mean lower rent and much lower council tax. At that distance, I reckon the walk into town would be ok when compared to the savings. If you were a bit further from the city centre - particularly to the east, rent and council tax would absolutely plummet, against only the cost of a monthly bus ticket. In my case I pay £94 for a 10-week pass. by talldaveos (Sun 21st Mar 2021 11:41am)

  • You need to take blade width into account when planning your cut list. If the blade is say 4mm, then \[70 minus 4\] divided by 2 = **33mm**. It's not much, but something you'll need to think about, as those errors compound over the length of a thing, and soon enough you'll have half an inch of something jutting out... by talldaveos (Tue 6th Apr 2021 8:26pm)

  • Have you considered shamelessly scraping reddit content for [GlasgowLive](https://www.glasgowlive.co.uk/news/glasgow-news/glasgow-dialect-confuses-visitor-who-26512264)? Talk to [David Mclean](https://www.glasgowlive.co.uk/authors/david-mclean/) about getting your foot in the door. by talldaveos (Thu 23rd Mar 2023 8:30pm)
  • Try Weedgie Wheelers on fb. They have regular rides for road, gravel and MTB styles. Just last week a few of them were away riding in the sun on a Spanish island... by talldaveos (Sun 16th Apr 2023 4:40pm)
  • I rent a 20 foot container for doing my sculpture. At 50 quid a month it's a reasonable option if you've got the space. by talldaveos (Thu 25th May 2023 6:20pm)
  • Mine's just a bare box, plonked in the front yard. I run an extension cord out through a window for power. Honestly, the only good thing about shipping containers as a workspace is that they're quite secure against petty theft. On the other hand, being uninsulated unventilated steel boxes, they're blisteringly hot in the summer and arctic in the winter. And not at all sound proof. But cheap and readily available. • A cordless grinder with a metal disc would prolly have that fixed in a few minutes. What brand is the lock? And what is it locked to, if not just itself? by talldaveos (Sat 24th Jun 2023 6:36pm)
  • It's the vanilla Phillips screws that are the giveaway it's not quite right. The council would've used something tamper proof like rivets or security screws I reckon. by talldaveos (Wed 28th Jun 2023 12:38pm)
  • The 2 blokes with Gasline on Crow Road near Partick are the best tradesmen I've ever met. Clean, punctual, meticulous, though prolly not the cheapest. • As was said above, nobody worth listening to will give you grief for being black or female. Just don't be one of those noisy opinionated yanks that doesn't have an indoor voice. by talldaveos (Wed 9th Aug 2023 4:37pm)
  • Fancy a bit of impromptu parcour with new friends? Just pop on down to any supporters' bar on match day - in the wrong colours - and loudly offer a few helpful observations about the players' mums' moustaches, and how "the weather here in England is pish." Extra points if you pronounce it as *Glass Cow*. If you make it out of the bar, I reckon you'd be up for a decent short run. by talldaveos (Wed 9th Aug 2023 9:41pm)

  • Absolutely NTA. Just earlier today I was cycling home on Great Western Rd when I was passed twice by a young bloke on a bike who couldn't decide if he was a pedestrian or a cyclist. There's me waiting at the lights a few cars back, and he wobbles by all over the place, between stopped vehicles, and then ran the red. Twice. Right in front of me. Anyway, I caught up with him near Anniesland and might have expressed a few strong opinions about his behaviour and poor sense of personal responsibility. /end rant. by talldaveos (Tue 15th Aug 2023 6:20pm)
