  • Linn park in cathcart, glad rags charity shop, there's a winter wanderland event that happened in battlefield last weekend but most people still have their window displays up. It's really nice and will happen again in shawlands/strathbungo in December I believe. If you want good coffee shops try, salmagundi/honey and salt in the southside. Also try eventbrite for some free events that are being hosted, whether there virtual or in person they might give a change of scenery and routine to the day! Hope some of this helps! by tbaillie153 (Sun 1st Nov 2020 7:45am)
  • I believe the whole thing is a social enterprise but remember your experience isn't everyone's experience. It might be something nice for the OP to do. I shall rephrase and say *vintage shop*. by tbaillie153 (Sun 1st Nov 2020 11:33am)
  • I had exactly the same issue, too! And when I went to test drive cars I phoned to check they had the two cars I wanted before going they told me they did and when I arrived they didn't have them at that store but said they were on sale at another store and due to be delivered to Hillington by the end of the week. I ended up test driving at another car store the same day and then putting a deposit down for the car I wanted at Hillington Peter Vardy because it was a better deal and then they told me the exact same thing. The car hasn't been checked prior to going on sale at the other Peter Vardy store and not had problems that would take months to resolve. When I told them I wanted my deposit back the sales guy because super shitty over the phone told me he'd sort it out and it took me months to get a hold of someone. I ended up having to go through the complaints team. I ended up going to an Arnold clark, who I know people have the exact same issues with but I've bought from paisley fiat Arnold clark and also the Renault/Dacia in Falkirk and never had any issues. They actually went above and beyond to help. by tbaillie153 (Fri 25th Jun 2021 9:57am)

  • Using Gilson Gray right now (also used them 3 years ago and went back as we had a good experience) but with the market being more difficult than ever, I wonder whether you could share why people should avoid them? Thanks! by tbaillie153 (Mon 24th Jan 2022 6:00pm)
  • Might be worth speaking to battlefield restoration. They may be able to help or know someone who can. They're on Instagram: https://instagram.com/battlefieldrestoration?utm_medium=copy_link by tbaillie153 (Mon 24th Jan 2022 6:19pm)
  • I got mine from here: https://www.linkedupalarms.com/ Won't be here till mid February but it's reasonable priced and hoping they might arrive sooner. by tbaillie153 (Mon 31st Jan 2022 10:24pm)
  • This is absolutely not the case. They should take the details down and do investigations themselves into dates of birth/names if they feel the concern warrants it. As others have said, phone back and see if you can speak to someone else and if you have no luck ask to speak to a senior. It may be that you only managed to speak to an administrator, who does need a date of birth or name to search for the child. In this case ask to speak to a duty social worker. by tbaillie153 (Wed 23rd Feb 2022 2:01pm)
  • We're moving from a three bed ground floor to a three bed house. The two companies we got quotes from both seemed sound and great at explaining a bit more about what will happen on the day of moving. I didn't think they were too expensive either, but assume they would be cheaper for a smaller property. The two companies we used for quotes are: DS removals Lanarkshire https://www.allwaysmoving.co.uk/ by tbaillie153 (Wed 23rd Feb 2022 2:14pm)
  • Thanks! Was that for buying and selling on the same day? I'm just aware there's a lot of waiting around for movers until money is cleared and keys are collected etc. by tbaillie153 (Wed 23rd Feb 2022 2:38pm)
  • Thank you! Are they similar for a cost comparison would you think? by tbaillie153 (Wed 23rd Feb 2022 2:41pm)
  • Something we were aware of when getting quotes. The quotes I've gotten so far include the understanding that we won't have access to the keys of the place we're moving to until later in the day and we've asked for costing contingencies if we don't get keys until the next day. We aren't in a long chain. It's just us and one other person (buying our property) but aware it could be an issue. Unfortunately we don't have anyone to stay with so only have this option! by tbaillie153 (Wed 23rd Feb 2022 2:40pm)

  • This is great, thanks so much! by tbaillie153 (Thu 24th Feb 2022 9:32pm)
  • That's interesting. I'll speak to our solicitor about whether this is a possibility! We don't actually have that much stuff really, and the only big items are two sofas and a sideboard. It's just preparing for every eventuality, for example not getting the keys for days after, that's giving me the fear! It's great to know that there are cheaper options (still with good service) though! by tbaillie153 (Thu 24th Feb 2022 9:42pm)
  • Have you considered asking for a higher rate of pay at the new job? If you can outline your skills that make you the most attractive person for the job and justify that you deserve higher "compensation" (e.g. pay) for the job then they may consider increasing, even a grand or two, which may help your decision. I have done this in the past and clearly stated my reasoning, and been offered a higher salary. by tbaillie153 (Wed 2nd Mar 2022 8:17pm)
  • Absolutely. They can only say no, and you'll still be in the same situation as you are just now. I have negotiated with a public sector job before that's funded every year, and they advised they could only go up one pay grade but it was exactly what I asked for. Just to say: the point I have negotiated is after being formally offered the job in writing and it is usually with the line manager. by tbaillie153 (Wed 2nd Mar 2022 8:47pm)
  • I can second Strong like a mutha gym (the mutha ship) https://instagram.com/strong_likeamutha?utm_medium=copy_link I went for PT after endometriosis surgery and they were so understanding and welcoming. The woman who owns and runs it is lovely and so are all the staff I have encountered. They do a number of membership options, as well. It's a lovely, safe and welcoming place and I can highly recommend it. by tbaillie153 (Thu 3rd Mar 2022 9:48pm)
  • I used Gilson Gray five weeks ago to sell and buy in the same day. There are some comments on this sub absolutely slating them but this is the second time I've used them and they've been absolutely brilliant. It wasn't particularly easy as the solicitor on the sellers side was terrible and took 5 weeks to actually move anything along. Our solicitor at Gilson Gray kept us up to date through email and phone. She answered her direct line almost every time and if she didn't she would call back immediately. Emails were answered within half an hour every time. I also found them to be very reasonably priced and happy to give a cost up front. They will happily put offers in and give you advice for no cost. On the other hand, the sellers solicitor was McVey and murricane (the senior solicitor at that) who were absolutely appalling. by tbaillie153 (Tue 17th May 2022 9:36am)
  • I've had mine done recently, £400 a room (all 3 rooms are pretty big) including supplies. That is for a mist coast on top of plastering, a colour on top and painting the woodwork as well. The guys a local painter and decorator, if you want the details feel free to send me a message and I can pass them on. by tbaillie153 (Fri 29th Jul 2022 7:25am)
  • Sylvan in woodlands is incredible. Vegetarian/vegan small plates. The inside of the restaurant is beautiful and the cocktails are top notch. by tbaillie153 (Fri 29th Jul 2022 9:39am)
  • If you phone the number rather than reporting on the app and advise it was returned broken then they will usually replace it for you. I did this when I lived in a tenement and the customer assistant couldn't have been more helpful! by tbaillie153 (Fri 29th Jul 2022 9:45am)
  • There is a group on Instagram called brave burds, https://instagram.com/braveburds?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y= I don't think they've run anything for a wee while but if they do it's an absolute cracker of a group and you usually get to do something fun. Sometimes the activities are more expensive or require travel which may not suit you but they often do a less cost heavy activity as well. Might be worth following and keeping an eye out! by tbaillie153 (Sat 30th Jul 2022 10:13am)

  • I can highly recommend Kingsway at Mount Florida. The women at reception is great and I feel that they are very reasonably priced in comparison to other garages. Also they are upfront about costs and won't carry out work unless you agree to it. by tbaillie153 (Tue 20th Sep 2022 5:24pm)
  • I don't know if this will help but I try to keep the heating off for as long as possible so clothes do take ages to dry. During the winter months I tend to wash my clothes and take what I can to the tumble dryers at the launderette every two weeks or so. I usually leave it for about 45mins to 1hr and it costs £5.50. It means anything that can't be tumble dried can be spaced out more on the clothes horse so air can circulate round it and dry it more quickly. This may be an option you can't afford, but I thought I would suggest it. It saves me putting my heating on to dry big things like towels and bedding, which still take days to dry and then smell damp. by tbaillie153 (Mon 14th Nov 2022 12:03pm)
