  • I got engaged there, in front of a sellout crowd for Hayseed Dixie gig. I then threw up in the backstage bogs (a few too many shots of "Dutch courage" by well-meaning friends who were in on the plan...). Saw more bands there than I can count, both in the main hall and ABC2. However, if it does have to come down - and let's be realistic, it's pretty likely - I'd love for some philanthropist to come in and outbid all the dodgy bastards who are waiting with bated breath, rubbing their palms together with the thought of more overpriced student flats... and who turns it into a little park or something. A bit of green space. by MadMosh666 (Sat 9th Mar 2019 12:27am)
  • They're taking the piss at £2 a bottle. If they're fine charging way over the odds for this limited edition then why wouldn't they have a full-fat version at a small percentage over the regular price all the time - given that there's obviously a huge demand for it? by MadMosh666 (Tue 3rd Dec 2019 5:51pm)
  • Ah, thanks. I'd guessed as much (both points). Surprises me a little that it's a suicide spot given that it's not a very high bridge. by MadMosh666 (Wed 1st Jan 2020 9:19pm)
  • Used to cycle that every weekday. Rather glad I moved to the north side a while back! by MadMosh666 (Fri 3rd Jan 2020 8:04pm)
  • Yeah, I went to bed last night (top floor flat also, though there's a loft above me) and the wall behind my bed was damp. Said wall is an old chimney breast, I think, so the water must be coming down there and soaking through the plaster. by MadMosh666 (Sat 22nd Feb 2020 8:03pm)
  • There will be a week in July or August as well. Routinely the one when I'm not in the country so I miss it. by MadMosh666 (Sat 29th Feb 2020 10:53pm)

  • Yeah, there's one of them outside my flat on a regular lamp post. It's not even stuck to a 4G or 5G tower, FFS. I mean, if you're going to be a paranoid delusional conspiracy theorist, at least be an \_accurate\_ paranoid delusional conspiracy theorist. by MadMosh666 (Wed 8th Apr 2020 11:59pm)
  • Similar happened in Bellahouston a couple of weeks ago. A friend of mine suffers from a degenerative disease and can't walk more than a couple of hundred metres without needing to stop for a rest. She was ushered off a bench and told she should only be out for exercise. She was exercising, she can only do it in short bursts is all. Staying cooped up in her flat was driving her mental. She suffers from other conditions, too, so getting out is very important for her. by MadMosh666 (Sun 19th Apr 2020 5:09pm)
  • She is, thanks. Just a bit put out and stressed (which doesn't help her) at the police who weren't in the least bit interested in her Fibromyalgia. Don't get me wrong, I'm generally a huge supporter of the police - but in this instance they need to start using judgement. Getting sunlight and getting _out_ is up there with getting exercise as long as people don't take the piss. by MadMosh666 (Sun 19th Apr 2020 5:51pm)

  • This. Almost nobody cares about your accent, but I have twice been told to "fuck off back to England" (same phrasing both times) when people heard me speak. In context, I've been living here for over a decade (Perth, Musselburgh and 9 years in Glasgow now) so it's not exactly commonplace. Kneejerk reaction from the knuckle-dragging nationalists (as opposed to the vast majority who aren't knuckle dragging). There are dicks everywhere. Don't be one and avoid people who are. by MadMosh666 (Fri 1st May 2020 5:44pm)
  • Great while the weather's nice. I've been walking the kids up to their mum's instead of using the car - three miles each way. They hate it. It's great :) by MadMosh666 (Sat 2nd May 2020 8:55pm)
  • I'm from Newcastle - our stereotype is the kind of person who wears a t-shirt to go snowboarding in minus 10 temperatures... But I do know that I'll resort to going back to the car when the weather closes in again. I've been round most of Europe and you're absolutely right. Infrastructure and society differs from country to country. Ours isn't great for non-car use, or it's just that people are so used to using them. It's been really pleasant seeing the roads comparatively quiet. The reasons for it happening aren't great, but it's nice! by MadMosh666 (Sun 3rd May 2020 12:32pm)
  • Probably the only affordable rent you'll get in the "desirable West End" (according to all the letting agencies, but nobody who lives here) by MadMosh666 (Sat 16th May 2020 4:50pm)
  • I hear you. We used to live near a school and ended up with a very poorly dog one day after he wolfed what looked like a curry or something that one of the kids had just ditched one day :( by MadMosh666 (Sat 16th May 2020 5:22pm)
  • Coincidentally I'm having similar issues with a neighbour who's being far more sneaky in his unwarranted complaints - I've had the police called at 8am as "someone has reported you have people staying with you who shouldn't be here" (my kids were playing in the front room...) and then a very disgusting and insulting note put through the door at 2am. I've spoken to police and they say no offence has been committed (by him or me), and my letting agent who said neighbour had threatened to contact. Both advises me to ignore any and all further complaints from him, not to respond in any way. If your neighbour reaches threatening or abusive territory then the police could be called. The fact that he's going tonto on neighbours means you'll have witnesses to back you up. Alternatively, if he does it more than once you can contact a lawyer (annoyingly this is a civil offence, so police can't help) and lodge a complaint about harassment. Google it for details. Council are hit and miss. I had issues with a complete dick of a neighbour in Bradford many years ago. Council were nice but ultimately useless. I have a feeling with your situation you'll end up with the council telling you to go to police as it's not a noise issue. Unless he's a council tenant in which case it's worth a shot. If he's a private tenant then report to his letting agency if it's a concern - you can find this by checking the Scottish Landlords page ( [https://www.landlordregistrationscotland.gov.uk/search](https://www.landlordregistrationscotland.gov.uk/search)) I'm waiting for incident three and then I'm going the legal route. by MadMosh666 (Tue 19th May 2020 1:10pm)
  • I wear trainers in the flat to reduce the noise of footfall. I wear headphones when I'm watching TV or using the computer after around 8 or 9 pm. I'm constantly on eggshells with the kids, keeping them quiet. Both police and letting agent have told me I'm over-restricting my own life to an unreasonable level to keep the neighbour happy. So, no. After 15 months of them banging on the walls and ceiling for the slightest sound (my partner laughing out loud at a film the other night FFS), followed by the recent unwarranted police visit and horrible letter? No. I've been beyond respectful. Out of my way respectful. It's not appreciated and he's being unreasonable. by MadMosh666 (Wed 20th May 2020 9:09am)
  • That parallels my experience. They've never once knocked on the door - either bangs on the wall (on some occasions when I've been asleep in bed and the kids not here! How the hell was I making noise then?), shouts of abuse or - as has just started happening recently - the police at the door (on a made up complaint not related to noise) and the abusive note. I've been here 15 months and I've never once seen the guy who lives there face to face. I've seen the kids twice, I think (on their way to school), and the lady 2-3 times. She just brushes past me on the stairs without making eye contact. I've been told, again by police and letting agent, not to respond at all at this point unless I choose to involve a registered third party mediator so that all communication is logged. I'm considering this route prior to the legal one, but I'll wait to see if he "complains" at me again. As far as I'm concerned with wasting police time and the foul letter he sent, he's making a rod for his own back. by MadMosh666 (Wed 20th May 2020 10:20am)
  • And fair play on you for being reasonable. My neighbours have been hell. If my kids so much as run from one room into the other at 2 in the afternoon instead of tip-toe around like fairies on cotton wool, the bastards are banging on the ceiling. I am \_so\_ having the mother of all clog-dancing championships with as many people as I can cram in here when this shit is over. by MadMosh666 (Wed 27th May 2020 1:46pm)
  • Apparently my youngest is being encouraged to start a musical instrument by her school for next year. Daddy is thinking drums... by MadMosh666 (Wed 27th May 2020 4:11pm)
  • My "little Goblins" were sat at the table playing Aquabeads when the floor was assaulted yesterday morning. Nobody was actually _moving_, let along walking anywhere. This is a regular occurence. My neighbours are, possibly, insane. by MadMosh666 (Wed 27th May 2020 4:11pm)
  • Happens then, happens when we're not "making noise". Hell, I was woken this morning by banging in the ceiling at 8:40-ish. I'm in the flat myself (kids at their mum's). I was asleep. What the hell noise could I have been making? by MadMosh666 (Wed 27th May 2020 4:15pm)
  • I'm actually considering joining a clog-wearing riverdance class once the lockdown ends, and inviting people over for practice in the evenings. I think we could line about 20 or so up along my laminate-floored hallway. by MadMosh666 (Wed 27th May 2020 4:55pm)
  • Mugdock Country Park as well, if you'd rather head north. Go to the car park near the tourist information office and garden centre. Park up and walk back out the way you drove in, and you'll see some in the field opposite. by MadMosh666 (Fri 29th May 2020 9:50am)
  • Grey squirrels are cute, but I agree. It's a shame they can't cohabit with our native reds. I remember when I was a nipper (40-some years ago), seeing red squirrels all over the place. Now you won't see one south of Aberdeen, possibly further these days :( by MadMosh666 (Fri 29th May 2020 7:18pm)
  • I'm trying to remember the last time I saw one. My folks lived in Perth up until about 4 years ago and I'm trying to think if I saw any when I was there! Used to get them in Glasgow and Edinburgh for certain. No more :( by MadMosh666 (Fri 29th May 2020 9:26pm)

  • I live near a McDs (not saying which one as I don't want to make the problem worse). All the parking spots have been blocked off and two police officers are wasting their time sat on the roadside, I assume in case traffic builds up. I watched cars turn up, circle the drive-through and drive away as it wasn't even open! Looking just now, there is a queue starting so I guess they've started serving. I'm not up for driving 100 yards to queue for a burger, though. Even if the kids are telling me to. by MadMosh666 (Wed 3rd Jun 2020 12:04pm)
  • And this is such a great use of police time. by MadMosh666 (Wed 3rd Jun 2020 12:05pm)
  • Not everyone checks McDs website. I just don't fancy adding to the chance that one more person finds out and makes the traffic round my way even worse than it usually is. Having said that, after a brief flurry (or not, no ice cream on the menu at the moment) around 1pm, it's died right down. by MadMosh666 (Wed 3rd Jun 2020 2:37pm)

And I saw some tool post on facebook just a couple of days ago that we shouldn't allow BLM protests etc. because (and I quote) "We don't have a problem with racism in Scotland". • This. I was in my 40s and with three kids when I got mine done and this was what all the questions were focused around. The other thing I recall was a basic fitness checkup (BMI, etc.) - I'm not sure if it's tricky to do the operation if you're grossly overweight or something? I'm nowhere near that, so not sure why I needed the checkup but hey. by MadMosh666 (Fri 3rd Jul 2020 1:00pm)

  • Good stuff. We looked at having it done some years ago in a previous house, but apparently the way the place was built was going to make it a nightmare. We had a company out who recommended against trying at all as there were too many unknowns in terms of support beams, etc. behind the walls. by MadMosh666 (Sat 4th Jul 2020 3:13pm)

  • I'm a teacher so I'm not back at work until August (2 weeks earlier than usual is the current plan as kids have been at home for fecking ages already). Honestly I'm looking forward to being back. I have been more productive in that developing materials has been easier - my internet connection is better than at work, I've fewer distractions and so on. However, the effectiveness of teaching remotely definitely isn't so good, and engagement's not been what you'd hope for. However, my commute is only a 5 minute walk... On my old timetable I was "free" all of Friday afternoon, but wasn't allowed to head home as I had "other duties" which *could* have popped up (essentially registering a class if the school burst into flames), even though someone else could have covered them. I'm hoping that the last few months will encourage the Powers That Be to let us work from home more often when we're not required to be in front of a class. Agree with OP, though, about encouraging home work where it's appropriate. As a nation / world we've been going on about how staff could work from home but very, very few companies have made the effort to make it happen. I do know of some who've got more staff than they can accommodate in their offices (deliberately), and have staff in on shifts or when being in the building is required. I know of others who share premises with other companies, with desks being hotswap and a timetable for occupancy being used. Keeps costs and travel down. It's feasible for a lot of jobs. Maybe, *maybe* this will be one positive to come from recent events. by MadMosh666 (Tue 14th Jul 2020 8:46pm)

  • I swear it was about 2 years ago they started fining people for littering, but they made the mistake of handing duties to a private company instead of doing it in-house. So you ended up with barely-trained staff on a commission basis, out harassing people for the slightest thing, and the news filled with kids in tears for being bullied by failed bouncers who claimed they'd seen them drop litter. I stopped hearing these stories after a few weeks so I guess the council backed off. by MadMosh666 (Thu 16th Jul 2020 3:23am)

  • Bloody hell. You know, part of me had assumed that NEDs grew up. Seems they just get older :( by MadMosh666 (Thu 30th Jul 2020 11:13am)
  • Agreed. It does sound like the kid may have been a dick to you purely as you were "wrong place/wrong time" unless he said something to make this racist? I read recently about some kids in Birmingham who were kicking female cyclists into the canal there. Ignoring the men, hoofing the ladies. Absolute c\*nts, the lot of them. Also, according to one complete brainless fanny I had a "discussion" with recently, we don't have any issues with racism in Scotland, #BLM shouldn't be a thing, and therefore you definitely were just a random victim. (Note: I do not believe that last sentence and am staggered that someone who lives here can be so blind to the problems that people like yourself are victim to). by MadMosh666 (Thu 30th Jul 2020 11:10am)
  • Because those 40 year old men were allowed to act like cunts in their teens. Never punished, never disciplined. So now they think it's just fine to act like a cunt even though they're older. Welcome to the soft society we now live in. I wholeheartedly agree with you, by the way, and rarely go out myself as a result. I've lived in nice areas around the city and each time watched the scum move in aroundabout and start to envelope the area with their shit to the point where we've started looking for somewhere else to shift. If it's any consolation, this crap isn't limited to Glasgow. I've lived in a few places and it's the same all over the shop... in the UK at least. I've not seen the same issues in other countries, not all of them anyway. by MadMosh666 (Fri 31st Jul 2020 12:52am)
  • Yeah, this. I have black friends in the US and they put up with the same shit. "Yeah, those black bastards taking our jobs... not you." Now, if said that over here you could be prosecuted as it's racist. But I gather it's OK if you say the same thing about someone's accent rather than their skin colour. by MadMosh666 (Fri 31st Jul 2020 12:59am)
  • Yeah, I've been given the "fuck off back to England" retort a few times. Half my family is from Glasgow (the other half around Wales) and I'm a Geordie. My wife (now ex) is Scots, as are my kids. I've lived here 12 years now, I think, plus a period when I was a kid. Not that it counts for anything as I have a different accent, therefore I'm the enemy and must be cast out. by MadMosh666 (Fri 31st Jul 2020 12:55am)
  • Getting the shit kicked out of you by your parents (in my view) doesn't really emphasise or encourage good behaviour. It enforces the idea that if you don't like something, you deal with it by giving it a hoofing. Violence is the norm. It's the slapped wrist "punishment" for doing wrong on a societal level that I was referring to, where the little shits get away with being NEDs, basically. There's no comeuppance. They harass people, drink on corners, engage in antisocial behaviour and nothing is done so they just keep on doing it. I've been to Sweden and it's lovely. I agree that most kids are brought up well, but the family I stayed with did say that it's not all perfect. They're seeing an increase in drug abuse and the issues around it. They're in Stockholm as well. What struck me was that most of the discussions I had about this were with their eldest son, who was only 15 when I was there. As you say - well-informed and intelligent. by MadMosh666 (Fri 31st Jul 2020 12:21pm)
  • Yeah, a little off topic! I did enjoy my stay, though. The whole place just had a nice "feel" to it. We (me and my 10 year old boy) did 2 days in Stockholm then headed up to Falun for the Sabaton Open Air festival which was typically safe, welcoming and relaxing. Looking at going again next year. by MadMosh666 (Fri 31st Jul 2020 12:44pm)
  • May do that, thanks. If we're heading over for the festival it's nice to make more of the trip hence couchsurfing in Stockholm last time. by MadMosh666 (Fri 31st Jul 2020 12:50pm)
  • Worst I ever encountered was in Laos about 15 years ago. Ours are nothing compared to theirs. Any source of light and they swarm. The guest room I was staying in had a fine wire mesh over the bathroom fan otherwise they flew in there in their hundreds... and I mean "hundreds". I didn't notice the gap under my room door until it was too late. I ended up spraying a huge amount of a can of insecticide on the floor until it pooled up. They crawled under and died like little winged WWI troops going for the "big push" while the next wave climbed over them to avoid the chemicals. Turn the lights off and they were no bother. But try and walk around anywhere and you needed a face mask otherwise you were breathing the bastards in. by MadMosh666 (Fri 31st Jul 2020 6:35pm)

  • I very rarely get food delivered as I find takeouts expensive enough without the added cost of delivery. However, a couple of years back the majors were doing promotions for the first couple of orders with free delivery and discounts on the actual food price. I gave my savings as a tip to the drivers for the handful of times I ordered - in one case it was more than the actual cost of the food! by MadMosh666 (Wed 20th Jul 2022 4:04pm)
  • If it was Milngavie, I'd suggest golf shoes. by MadMosh666 (Sat 1st Apr 2023 8:52pm)
  • Yes. Do it. I failed three A-levels at school (D, E and N grades) and resat them at college. I hated school, but college "worked" for me and I bumped my grades up to CCD. Enough to get into uni. I'm now a teacher of Computing Science with 13 years under my belt (after a decade or so of industry experience). It's never too late to try again, but I'd say it's best to have at it while you're up for it... And it sounds like you are! Best of luck :) by MadMosh666 (Tue 11th Jul 2023 11:24pm)
  • Just found out that roads around Corkerhill and Bellahouston seem to be closed today for the cycling. Absolutely zero notice of this. I thought it was all city centre? by MadMosh666 (Sat 5th Aug 2023 10:24am)
  • I note the wait time has increased drastically since 2021. I'd be interested to know what they were like pre-lockdown. Lockdown actually lowered waiting times, or at least that was the experience of a couple of people I know who were waiting for MH diagnoses. In both cases, the move to online appointments sped up the assessments to a staggering degree. One was seen and diagnosed over a year sooner than he'd initially been told. Staff said it was down to them getting through the face-to-face meetings online far quicker than they had been in person. by MadMosh666 (Wed 9th Aug 2023 10:21am)

  • Goes nicely with Ten Ton Slug. Lovely bunch of lads. by MadMosh666 (Sun 20th Aug 2023 5:04pm)
  • Or just join in. I mean, it's basically a party line isn't it? If they didn't want me to join in, they'd not make the conversation public. by MadMosh666 (Sun 20th Aug 2023 10:05pm)
  • A shame I can only upvote this post once. The previous post essentially devolved into victim blaming instead of focusing on the real issue - that a pair of small kids think their behaviour was acceptable. by MadMosh666 (Sat 26th Aug 2023 12:18pm)
  • Three times in two years here. Which is odd as I've been here for 13 years with nothing in the previous 11 years. Has the population shrunk or something? Been excused all three times. Not sure if this means I'm put onto a shortlist which means I'm more likely to be selected. by MadMosh666 (Wed 30th Aug 2023 11:12pm)
  • I was wanting to go to that gig, Dead Label opening who are well worth seeing. Mate's wedding down south, though :( by MadMosh666 (Sun 17th Sep 2023 11:11pm)
  • Spoke to them at Bloodstock. The drummer and bassist got engaged on stage after their set :) by MadMosh666 (Mon 18th Sep 2023 7:23pm)
