  • General rule of thumb in Glasgow if it’s a conservation area then rear of property can be upvc no issues. If any of the neighbouring flats have upvc (any style) in place then you won’t have any issue. Council are far more concerned with properties with listed status. by Yer_maw_loves_it (Sat 19th Jun 2021 8:24am)

  • My gran who was a staunch Church of Scotland/Woman’s Guild member got the knock on the door from the local JW branch, was a wet/windy day and she took pity on these 3 folk. Turned out it was the top man of the local hall and two followers, she invited them in and gave them tea n biscuits! She adamantly told them she wouldn’t be converting and they accepted this, they popped in every month with there magazine and this continued for 18 years. A strange organisation but these fellows from Riddrie were a nice bunch of people. by Yer_maw_loves_it (Fri 15th Apr 2022 9:36am)
  • Won’t judge you for going to this gig the things you do to please family! How long do you intend to stay in Glasgow? I highly recommend Dakota hotel, expensive but won’t be full of young folk who are in town for the concert so will be quieter. If your both agile on your feet then Raddisson Red at finniston has a nice sky bar with nice views ideal for a few pre show drinks. Then 20 min walk to the stadium. Subway I’d say is best to get back to the city centre afterwards but will be busy. Are you flying into Edinburgh? If so there is a decent bus service to Glasgow from the airport. Don’t make the mistake of many tourists I met at Heathrow and drive up using a hire car! by Yer_maw_loves_it (Fri 15th Apr 2022 9:53am)

  • Agree with many comments here, some officers in police Scotland have there own rules and are above the law. I was remanded for a breach of bail, whilst I spent 90 days awaiting the decision if I was to goto court two police officers (cid) decided to use my keys to access my empty property, I presume for a nosey. Whilst there they signed for a neighbours parcel! Poor neighbour has to wait many weeks for my return to get there parcel. My lawyer complained to police Scotland, we even had the officers name and a photo from the delivery company. Guess what, no further action and warned off Oh and my keys/phone/270 quid just disappeared Never trust the police and for sure they ain’t your friend at any time. by Yer_maw_loves_it (Thu 30th Jun 2022 7:56am)

If your alone then the extra seat is good for getting your feet up. Don’t rely on the free wifi it’s poor! by Yer_maw_loves_it (Sun 7th Aug 2022 9:53am)
  • There is a doctors surgery in carntyne road just off myrseside street, then further up you have a two rows of shops. The friendliest wee shop is saleems on carntyne road and has a hairdressers next door. Also close by is China king chinese takeaway, I highly recommend them. Depending on which part of the street your in the road can get busy with cars especially the loud variety, they tend to enjoy flying around the roundabout! Also Duke street is within distance if your looking at coffee shops etc too Other than that it is reasonably quiet by Yer_maw_loves_it (Sun 14th Aug 2022 2:28am)

  • All of these walks/demonstrations wether it’s orange or alternative catholic walks should all be ideally moved into stadiums or enclosed parks. Then the roads could remain open, people can enjoy these events if they wish and everyone else can go about there business. • I am all for people taking there right to strike for genuine better pay/conditions! What I don’t like is on return to work claiming overtime to clear up the mess it’s caused! This is purely aimed at refuge collectors. Strike didn’t affect me, I pay a private contractor who is going to empty my bins for a small fee. by Yer_maw_loves_it (Wed 24th Aug 2022 12:25am)
  • My family where in very good terms of there leader from Riddrie meeting hall, he and his friends always visited us with the watchtower magazine. • If you really need a car, look at rentalcars.co.uk and then compare to the individual companies themselves. Companies like Easirent especially at the airport can be very cheap but just be mindful of the extra insurances or deposits needed. by Yer_maw_loves_it (Fri 2nd Sep 2022 11:48pm)

  • My personal opinion is that the man should show some decorum and postpone rest of the shows. I was a fan but his position of greed and keeping the show on is unforgiving. If your a true close friend she will understand if you tell her you don’t mind the odd night for him staying but not 24/7 End of day if she doesn’t like it then wish them best of luck in finding new accommodation and get someone else in. by Yer_maw_loves_it (Mon 17th Oct 2022 11:37am)

As mentioned take some coins for vending machines and if you can afford it put some cash into his canteen, basic items like irn bru/sweets/pot noodles cost a fortune inside! Prisoners love visiting time, you see guys spending hours making sure there “best” prison jumpers are clean/ironed before a visit. • I’d suggest a neighbour or someone with a grudge is contacting 101 with a enquiry suggesting you have harmed yourself or about to harm yourself. Hence them coming into your property, this is a welfare check. No warrant is required. As far as them searching, you have given them that permission, I’d suggest the officers at that stage being speculative of perhaps finding something or you becoming “cheeky” so they could do you on a public order offence. Moving forward, I’d suggest making your door very safe ie get a steel door. The police even using there equipment will take a long time battering them in. Although if your in a house or bottom flat then they can smash a window but again you can take steps to secure them. They can turn up night or day for these welfare checks it’s a bad situation to be in. by Yer_maw_loves_it (Thu 17th Nov 2022 2:08pm)

The young ones will grow out of it when they grow up and eventually have to join the formality of adulthood. What am saying is, if it’s not harming you let them enjoy a wee bit of fun and I guess they all come from many family backgrounds not all will be 3rd/4th generation ethnic families by Yer_maw_loves_it (Thu 24th Nov 2022 11:47pm)

  • Sadly transport after the festivities is a problem, always has been. Pre covid found myself “stuck” but managed to gain entry to a hotel, security just presumed I was a guest as I happened to have a keycard for that chain in my wallet. I then found a cosy corner out of sight and knapped till 6am, was a bonus of pretending to be a guest for a freebie breaky too Then wondered out, and got a train home. by Yer_maw_loves_it (Sat 26th Nov 2022 7:23pm)

Sadly can’t use Glasgow royal as these are specialist clinics. In the car, 10/15 mins at most! Short term immediate work without a sia would be doing safety steward work, football/events/gigs Done this myself for fuel money years ago and ended up a full time job, great for travelling the country during festival season. Downfalls lots of standing around and if unlucky some really rubbish jobs especially if your face doesn’t fit! I was lucky ended up travelling around europe with a football team, home/away games then gigs at hydro. My only downside thoughts looking ahead this removal of car parking provision on match days, that’s a lot of cars know looking to park elsewhere that doesn’t exist. Also what if in the future there’s a need to expand Celtic park. Personally I think this may have been better suited in the unused corner next to the emirates (London road/Springfield road) by Yer_maw_loves_it (Mon 17th Apr 2023 6:36am)
  • I noticed over the weekend there the amount of new developments of flats in the east end, Dalmarnock, Carlton and duke street areas must be hundreds of flats, surely these will reduce homeless lists by Yer_maw_loves_it (Mon 17th Apr 2023 6:40am)
  • Security will not allow you in with a sealed container irrespective of medical status. Unfortunately at indoor concerts/football matches people have misbehaved using these items as missles/filling them with vodka etc Off topic in England it’s fine if you remove and bin the lid prior to entering. Most folk who have medical needs carry these pouch drinks that have the straws attached. Like capri suns by Yer_maw_loves_it (Mon 17th Apr 2023 6:46am)

  • It’s common with this type of gig, head of security have a liaison with artists management and give the nod if they need the show stopping, although most times the artist will stop mid flow You’ll never see a “organised” pit area in any Scottish venue, security/organisers can’t be seen to promote the practise as then makes them liable if any problems occur. by Yer_maw_loves_it (Tue 18th Apr 2023 10:40am)

  • Glasgow is not alone with social behaviours it’s all around the world. Some areas sadly are full of people in bad situations and maybe they find it difficult to get out of there social circles. I’ve lived in a extreme scheme and luckily also a couple of nicer areas in Glasgow and the difference is huge, in scheme life was always something going on outside compared to where I am now it’s night and day. I see your a teenager you will I hope get opportunities to see different areas not only in Glasgow but worldwide. by Yer_maw_loves_it (Sun 23rd Apr 2023 4:21pm)

  • Rentalcars dot com is good for getting prices, as mentioned above if you hire from them and take out there added protection be aware most hire companies will then attempt to sell you there policy in a hard sell technique! Sixt car hire in Waterloo street or Enterprise in Oswald street both have a good range of cars, if your want upgrades to a nicer car my tip is take out insurance at the desk so the person serving you gets commission! Bring the car back with same as you got it otherwise the fuel charge is more expensive than what it costs at pump. • I’ve spent a good few years employed by europcar and sixt. These main companies along with enterprise/Budget/Avis are usually at a premium but if your in any of there loyalty programs then your looked after. Don’t be tempted by Greenmotion/Easirent and Drivalia which I suspect is Easirent under new colours! A couple of the big boys offer “budget hires” under different company names which offer good value and at Glasgow airport look for Keddy (they’re owned by europcar) You may have a insurance waiver in place or built in with your credit card, when at the desk 8/10 times the agent will attempt to sell up there own insurance so be strong, I have seen customers refused the car for not complying some agents are naughty and do you over. If you book the car minus cover, when you arrive at the desk the agent will most times dangle the “free car upgrade” if you take insurance at the desk. If you don’t take any cover with the company I recommend filming every part of the car inc tyres prior to driving off otherwise you leave yourself open to lost deposit and horrendous charges for minor damage. by Yer_maw_loves_it (Sun 3rd Sep 2023 8:54am)

  • HML a mortgage company ran by skipton building society during my time they managed mortgage books on behalf of Bank of America and other investors. Management was very demanding on increasing repossessions of properties from poor folk who just couldn’t afford there payments, the sub prime mortgage market. 20 years I spent in the finance banking industry and these guys where the cowboys. I whistleblew on them to the fsa and they eventually received a large fine. Fast forward a few years another company bought them over and the Glasgow office was so mismanaged by same bosses they closed them down. by Yer_maw_loves_it (Fri 22nd Sep 2023 3:21pm)

  • It’s true and well publicised the deaths on both sides prior to this latest escalation. But this time round thanks to social media the world witnesses events first hand. Sadly for Palestine they have came across very badly in this latest instalment been filmed killing children n woman. Posing with elderly vulnerable woman it’s all quite sickening. • I have two friends that moved to Manchester a few years ago to live a new life with there other half’s. Both very eager to get back but both families can’t afford to rent/buy property in Glasgow where they once lived. To the op for me the Winning part is having Loch Lomand area / Edinburgh all within easy travel distance that you can explore during your days off. Compared to Manchester, the nicer spots to visit aren’t so many by Yer_maw_loves_it (Tue 31st Oct 2023 6:48am)
  • Bear or pepper spray them, then smack them with your household weapon of choice. Brings back memories my gran living two floors up, her area had mad folk who’d climb up the drain pipes to get into houses. She would always say anyone at her window will be shoved back out it and police told they must have slipped. by Yer_maw_loves_it (Tue 31st Oct 2023 6:56am)
