  • Thanks for all the recommendation, will check out the Howlin wolf this week! by rw1337 (Mon 20th Jan 2020 12:13pm)
  • Thanks, I think I will as it does no harm :) by rw1337 (Wed 17th Jun 2020 10:03pm)
  • Yeah, I've noticed it ends around Dalmarnock, going to be good exercise to get there on foot with the kayak on my back. With that in mind, I will also try to email the Rowing Club. by rw1337 (Wed 17th Jun 2020 10:06pm)
  • I've emailed the club now how to access, perhaps they can share the padlock code etc. I am hopeful :) by rw1337 (Wed 17th Jun 2020 10:18pm)
  • Yeah, thanks for the recommendation, I know where that bridge is. by rw1337 (Wed 17th Jun 2020 10:17pm)
  • Seen in growing all around! Thanks for the tip - I figured it was poisonous by the looks. by rw1337 (Thu 18th Jun 2020 8:11am)
  • How would one get that when paddling on the river? Assuming you don't capsize. Is this a particular problem in city rivers? I would be happy to cycle to Loch Lomond later if that's a safer option. by rw1337 (Thu 18th Jun 2020 11:44am)
  • Thanks for the recommendation, it is a bit far off from my flat, but I can mount the kayak on my bike rack and cycle there in about 15 min so will try that. by rw1337 (Thu 18th Jun 2020 11:46am)
  • Cheers for the informative video. by rw1337 (Thu 18th Jun 2020 9:22pm)
  • Thanks for the advice, I would agree that it's a good neighbourhood overall. The link you provided is very interesting as well to see the historic context. by rw1337 (Wed 4th Nov 2020 9:06pm)
  • The property is basically next to the Pollokshields rail station. It seems it's covered by Three so I will probably give it a try when I start my tenancy there. by rw1337 (Wed 4th Nov 2020 9:39pm)
  • Yes, thanks for the advice, I believe it should be mentioned under: "Any other areas/facilities included with the Let Property." by rw1337 (Fri 6th Nov 2020 6:54pm)
  • Hmm, but why would anyone ever pay £80 month just to then claim back £40 at a later date? Essentially you are loaning money free of interest to the energy company for seemingly no benefit to yourself whatsoever. by rw1337 (Mon 9th Nov 2020 1:44pm)
  • That's insane. Didn't know that, thanks for the tip. by rw1337 (Mon 9th Nov 2020 10:03pm)
  • Good thanks for confirming! Excuse my ignorance on this matter. I was also interested what the real life picture looks like. Eg. in August you weren't supposed to use trains unless essential and they were still full of day-trippers, even saw a stag-do on one occasion. by rw1337 (Tue 15th Dec 2020 9:58pm)
  • Queen's Park Flagpole, highest point close to my flat. Used a zoom lens to get that effect of the hills being closer to Glasgow than they actually are, quite satisfied with the result :) by rw1337 (Tue 29th Dec 2020 2:48pm)
  • Just a Fuji XC 50-230, I took this at 206 mm focal length. by rw1337 (Tue 29th Dec 2020 5:39pm)
  • Just checked the EXIF, it's 204.6 mm, f6.7 aperture. by rw1337 (Tue 29th Dec 2020 5:38pm)
  • Yeah, definitely, I always felt that Glasgow lacked a viewpoint e.g. something similar to Calton Hill in Edinburgh. I had no idea this viewpoint in Queens Park existed until I moved to south side of city. by rw1337 (Tue 29th Dec 2020 8:05pm)
  • You are definitely correct :) Fuji XT20 with XC zoom lens. by rw1337 (Wed 30th Dec 2020 10:32am)
  • Why couldn't they walk there then if they're so close? I mean 100+ cars, some of them must be from Glasgow. by rw1337 (Mon 25th Jan 2021 1:03pm)
  • Yeah, no shit, that's why I wrote the post. It appears though that not many people care. by rw1337 (Mon 25th Jan 2021 1:07pm)
  • I am not sure if people here are being a bit thick on purpose. Have you recently gone out? Have you seen how busy the roads are? Have you gone for a walk in a park this weekend? No one cares about the lockdown anymore. It was only noticeable in March last year when the roads properly cleared out. Now it's equally busy as pre-lockdown so thousands of people are breaking lockdown every day with their wee car trips. by rw1337 (Tue 23rd Feb 2021 3:45pm)
  • I mean, the West Highland Line is super useful for bike trips, so during non-covid times, take train to Arrochar, cycle from there to Fort William and then train back! Very enjoyable to do. However, certain things piss me off to no end - for example sometimes they only allow 2 bikes per train for the Glasgow-Inverness one despite plenty of space available. I think I agree with you, I don't have faith in the Scottish government doing anything and the car-focused society seems to be the status quo so I'll either move to a different country or just take the cost penalty and get a car (and insurance which is a killer in the UK). by rw1337 (Sat 20th Mar 2021 8:49pm)
  • Fair enough, I mean ScotRail blast Essential Travel Only at all their stations, however I get a feeling that the Glasgow - Edinburgh trains are packed from day trippers as well. Now I haven't been to a train station in 2 months so I don't know for sure but that's the hunch I have. by rw1337 (Sat 20th Mar 2021 8:44pm)
  • You might be right. It was kind of the same thing last year. Public non-compliance ended the lockdown rather than any official government announcement and it'll probably be the same in 2021. by rw1337 (Sat 20th Mar 2021 8:57pm)
  • That emigration remark was mostly in humour :) overall I am quite satisfied here! Scotland is definitely better than England for allowing bicycles on trains, you are right about that. However... Germany/Switzerland are definitely better, albeit quite a high standard to beat. The Arrochar to Fort William is mostly A road, however the traffic was pretty light the last time I went in summer 2019. The highlights are: Rest and Be Thankful Viewpoint (and an epic climb), Inveraray in its entirety, a free campsite overlooking Loch Awe ruins (so you split the ride into two days), and then the road from Taynuilt to Connel is very scenic and of course you have the Glencoe/Ballachulish views! So for a starter 2-3 day overnighter, I think it's one of the best rides in Scotland, definitely recommend it. by rw1337 (Sat 20th Mar 2021 9:11pm)
  • That's exactly what my rant was about! I've pretty much explored Glasgow to death while cycling and running, I don't think there's a single nook and cranny I haven't jogged or wheeled across here! The thing is though, that after 1 solid year, it gets a get of the samey so I want to explore further. Car owners can just nip out with their pick in the trunk and park somewhere while I need to torture my legs with a 100+ km trip which might only have 50 km of interesting and new section for me. by rw1337 (Sun 21st Mar 2021 7:21am)
  • OP here, I do loads of cycling around the city so took some footage during my daily bike exercise to showcase some of my favourite views in Glasgow. Prominent locations featured are: view across Glasgow from Queen's Park flagpole, loads of places in West End, Kelvin walkway, Port Dundas & the canal, city centre locations and views across the River Clyde. Feel free to feedback on any spots I missed. by rw1337 (Wed 31st Mar 2021 5:08pm)
  • OP here, I do loads of cycling exercise around the city so I thought I might document some of favourite places on video to share with others! Prominent locations featured are: views from Queen's Park, most of West End, Port Dundas & the canal, the usual city centre locations, Kelvin walkway and views over the Clyde. Regarding the thumbnail, I'm not fan of the People Make Glasgow building either but I thought it would be a relatable one! Let me know if I missed any cool spots in Glasgow and I will include these in the next one for summer montage. by rw1337 (Thu 1st Apr 2021 3:24pm)
  • Thanks, could have done more of the East End in general, next time I'll try to cover more if it and include Glasgow Green etc. as well. by rw1337 (Thu 1st Apr 2021 5:10pm)
  • Thanks, I'll look into these, any car clubs you would recommend for Glasgow? by rw1337 (Wed 14th Apr 2021 11:25am)
  • That's an interesting one! I got my provisional in 2019 so I'll shop around to see if it's cheaper with some companies. by rw1337 (Wed 14th Apr 2021 3:23pm)
  • Yeah I was thinking it would make for a full day adventure. Cycle there, climb it, cycle back, might be quite intense. by rw1337 (Fri 14th May 2021 10:42am)
  • I've been saying this since March 2020... by rw1337 (Thu 20th May 2021 8:43am)
  • I'm surprised that you are downvoted, it's not like there's been any conclusive scientific studies done to confirm that restrictions on movement do anything... by rw1337 (Sat 22nd May 2021 9:29am)
  • Not that many other exciting places close to Glasgow. Thought it would be good for cycling. by rw1337 (Mon 31st May 2021 12:38pm)
  • Having cycled through Loch Lomond National Park yesterday, I'm unsure if people follow the restrictions anyway. There was a massive traffic jam on the A82 from all the folk going back to Glasgow yesterday, make of that what you will. I'm fine sleeping in a tent for the time being but I was wondering about the hotels in the future. by rw1337 (Mon 31st May 2021 12:37pm)
  • Sounds like a reasonable thing to do, cheers! by rw1337 (Wed 9th Jun 2021 3:08pm)
  • The pole thingies is the noisiest activity yes - hope they don't have too many poles left to do at this point! by rw1337 (Wed 9th Jun 2021 3:08pm)
  • Yeah.. I guessed so, maybe there's just more people smoking. My father's side family smoked all their life but never had such an alteration to their voice, I guess it depends on the person. by rw1337 (Mon 28th Jun 2021 10:29am)
  • It's definitely more noticeable when the person is young or female as you'd expect their pitch to be higher in a normal circumstance! by rw1337 (Tue 29th Jun 2021 9:44am)
  • Definitely meant Edith yeah! I remembered the choir audition scene particularly where they made fun of her voice and that sparked my interest. by rw1337 (Tue 29th Jun 2021 9:43am)
  • https://youtu.be/ytIL_ZJOfRE I meant something like this more like. by rw1337 (Tue 29th Jun 2021 9:54am)
  • I don't find this stereotype to be true to be honest. Weather in Glasgow is honestly fine compared to other places in Europe. Rain is fine, cloudy is fine, sunny is also fine, just this inbetween weather feels a bit unsatisfying. by rw1337 (Sun 11th Jul 2021 2:04pm)
  • You could say that again.. Sometimes I question if I'm still in Scotland or in the Borneo during the monsoon season.. by rw1337 (Sun 11th Jul 2021 2:01pm)
  • Yeah, I live close to the Pollokshields train station and I rarely get 4G anywhere in the Southside, it worked fine in Edinburgh though last weekend. by rw1337 (Tue 13th Jul 2021 8:44pm)
  • They never told me the fix time. I will try making a complaint at Three and if not solved by 8 weeks I'll go to Ofcom. That being said, it might be easier to just buy a new phone with 5G and see if that works... I wouldn't be surprised if these issues had something to do with Three 5G roll out. by rw1337 (Tue 13th Jul 2021 8:43pm)
  • I used to have similar numbers, however now I'm like down to 5 mbps lol by rw1337 (Tue 13th Jul 2021 10:02pm)
  • Is there ever not a police presence at Central? Too many junkies/bams and people passing out in front of the main entrance every time I walk past, if anything they should set up a permanent police booth there to minimise any risks to public safety. by rw1337 (Wed 21st Jul 2021 10:15am)
  • I don't see why you're downvoted, most independent kebab shops don't have the security theatre because they know it's bollocks. by rw1337 (Thu 5th Aug 2021 5:23pm)
  • Mate you need to relax, this type of anxiety is not normal unless you are extremely vulnerable to covid... by rw1337 (Thu 5th Aug 2021 5:22pm)
  • Thanks, I recommend taking up some yoga to manage your anger issues though. by rw1337 (Fri 6th Aug 2021 9:18am)
  • The Barras or your local pub after dark. by rw1337 (Mon 9th Aug 2021 4:29pm)
  • OP here, they seem to be everywhere in the 500 m vicinity to Super Asia in Southside. I am genuinely curious what these mean because they look distinctive from your usual young team / vandalism graffiti. by rw1337 (Wed 18th Aug 2021 9:01am)
  • "Dear comrades, I just heard my neighbour criticising the government in their own home by carefully listening through the thin walls, how can I best report them to the secret police so they can be properly dealt with?" OP, do you realise that this is how you sound? by rw1337 (Fri 27th Aug 2021 11:20am)
  • REMOVED Have you maybe considered that the cleaner in question has had covid already and has built up a natural immunity which would render them harmless? There was a paper published not long ago that concluded that immunity from infection was superior to the vaccines. That being said, the government had been saying for ages that the vaccine does not 100% prevent spread so I think that you and the OP are the braindead ones here even if you've been ardent followers of the fear propaganda. by rw1337 (Fri 27th Aug 2021 12:17pm)
  • If it's not partly true then why are vaccinated folk still wearing masks if they can't effectively spread it and/or get ill from it?? Oopsie, be careful what you say, you might trip on your own logic... by rw1337 (Fri 27th Aug 2021 12:32pm)
  • REMOVED You know OP posts itself seems to be implying misinformation thus should be banned. OP is implying that a vaccination will prevent a covid/positive carer from infecting the vulnerable. This is incorrect, there is still a chance that even a vaccinated person could spread it. There have been no conclusive studies to disprove this, albeit that there are some early ongoing studies done on this subject, so OP should not jump to incorrect conclusions yet nor spread this wrong info as fact. by rw1337 (Fri 27th Aug 2021 1:04pm)
  • You should be banned for spreading misinformation, did you read the NHS booklet after getting the vaccination? by rw1337 (Fri 27th Aug 2021 1:19pm)
  • After getting full vaccination, your ability to spread will decrease - and that decrease will be in the range between 0 and 100%. It won't be 0% or 100% but somewhere in between, we don't know what the number is exactly because the studies on this are still running, however if you look at high vaccination rate countries like Israel now, I'd like to think it's closer to 0 than 100. by rw1337 (Fri 27th Aug 2021 1:23pm)
  • I hope your children/family report you for wrongthink as it's all you deserve in your fantasy totalitarian society.. by rw1337 (Fri 27th Aug 2021 1:25pm)
  • That's a good analogy and I see your point. That being said, if the prevention of spread from the vaccine is so "massive" as you claim then why does Scotland still mandate masks in indoor settings? Your argument seems to go directly against the policy of the country you live in. And if you say to minimise risk even further then you get into the debate on what is acceptable risk? Would you wear a helmet in a car when driving to the shops 'just in case'? Would you build your house 6 feet from the ground hovering in the air because you are afraid of lightning? These are some hard questions you need to ask yourself.. by rw1337 (Fri 27th Aug 2021 1:39pm)
  • Anywhere on the Argyll coast it's the same... I also visited and had the same experience, even some of the shop owners had a strong English accent. I genuinely think we should learn from the Americans and get the English to pay some reparations for the Highland Clearances. by rw1337 (Sat 28th Aug 2021 11:20am)
  • Always been dodgy, used to execute people there and there was a jail there. I have a theory that junkies have a third eye intuition gravitating towards this type of energy. Used to live there too, feel much better now living in Shawlands. by rw1337 (Mon 6th Sep 2021 9:51am)
  • The only thing these strikes have done for me is to take driving lessons.. I'll not forget this entire year of poor ScotRail service and will rather get a car than put up with this. by rw1337 (Thu 7th Oct 2021 6:48pm)
  • Manual will literally die out in the next 10 years and I want my first car to be electric. by rw1337 (Fri 8th Oct 2021 8:09am)
  • Last lesson I said to my instructor, we've been driving in this neighborhood for 1 hour now with me making no mistakes, could we try someplace else for my learning and he said no. That's the general vibe I got from the instructor, considering I'm paying frigging 50£+ for this 2 hour lesson you better listen to my suggestions. by rw1337 (Fri 8th Oct 2021 8:10am)
  • Wow thanks so much for your helpful advice... by rw1337 (Sat 9th Oct 2021 12:24pm)
  • Alright, thanks, despite some others posting unhelpful and sarcastic comments, I do feel like I have been unreasonable in my expectations to an extent. Appreciate the reality check, I'll stick with my current instructor and see where I am in the next 6 hours. by rw1337 (Sat 9th Oct 2021 12:46pm)
  • Good. Too many cars in Glasgow anyway mostly driven by people who would fail a standard UK driving test. by rw1337 (Thu 28th Oct 2021 6:06pm)
  • Southside has fireworks on every single day of the year... by rw1337 (Thu 4th Nov 2021 10:28am)
  • Emm the poster above wrote a well thought out post and even linked the relevant source to back it up. Maybe you're the dipshit who needs shutting up eh? by rw1337 (Wed 10th Nov 2021 5:47pm)
  • It's odd as the designated spaces outside and the ones in the underground parking lot are usually empty so I shouldn't have a problem. However, the road-side spaces are usually rammed with cars even parking on the pavement. I'll need to do some more research into this, I'll ask my landlord. by rw1337 (Fri 8th Apr 2022 9:07am)
  • Did you get yours done at Optical Express on Vincent Street? I'm more worried about dry eyes, night vision and anything else making my overall vision worse.. by rw1337 (Fri 22nd Apr 2022 11:52am)
  • Really, didn't know that, that's one way to save money. For reference, I can get 25% student discount at the Ray Ban Buchanan shop, meaning that I can get any frame with the fancy lenses which darken with UV light (essentially turning into sunglasses) for about £200-£300 total. Unsure if the Costco will be even cheaper than that? by rw1337 (Fri 22nd Apr 2022 6:57pm)

  • Next time I'd recommend insurance. Laka is pretty good, all you need to do is use a gold standard lock to lock your bike. by rw1337 (Fri 6th May 2022 8:40am)
  • DELETED People not caring about their appearance in general. This is something that is acutely different from lots of European countries. Walking around Glasgow city centre, there's just a lot of ugliness in the street view and it's not just the drug addicts & homeless. Comes down to shite fashion sense, wearing wrinkled or stained trackies or just looking like you haven't taken a shower in a few weeks. Orange make-up also is pretty bad. Now I get it, some people are genuinely poor but I wish people would just care for their appearance a bit more as it'd greatly approve the perception of the city. by rw1337 (Sat 28th May 2022 9:43pm)
  • I have a gf so no by rw1337 (Wed 22nd Jun 2022 6:36pm)

  • Agree, people moaning here about losing friends and social isolation are part of the problem. Lots of people simply ignored the bs rules and went on with their life as normal in 2020. by rw1337 (Sun 16th Oct 2022 12:10pm)
  • Even if there's not a single mention of corrosion on the MOT over the last 10 years? I am worried about corrosion so I could pay for a pre purchase inspection to eliminate any serious issues. by rw1337 (Tue 18th Oct 2022 7:50am)
  • Recommend this as well. If you have more time, do the Glen Rosa walk - takes about 3 hrs and you get some amazing views and feels quite remote and adventurous. Otherwise, just take ferry to Brodick, take a walk to the castle, check out the gardens. by rw1337 (Thu 20th Oct 2022 10:19am)
  • It's more like your mates are sad bastards. I by rw1337 (Sat 29th Oct 2022 3:14pm)
  • I was surprised too! I also didn't realise how prominent the high-rise buildings are. I wonder how many Glasgow locals would recognise the city from this type of an angle if they didn't know what they were looking at. by rw1337 (Sat 5th Nov 2022 12:21pm)

  • https://youtu.be/yX1dCk2migk I like lots of different genres, blues, jazz, even metal occasionally. Also play classical occasionally. I didn't specific what type of guitar in my original post as I'm really open to anything to expand my playing. I'll definitely check out Paul Tasker! Hoping he's got not that much of a busy schedule as he seems quite popular. by rw1337 (Tue 3rd Jan 2023 10:52am)
  • I definitely see what you're saying. Likewise I went to see Christone Kingfish Ingram (check him out!) this year and it also inspired me to get better at blues and improve my tone as well. I think it's more like I've been playing by myself / learning from YouTube for too long and I feel like I've exhausted how far I can go on this route. So I'm just looking for a teacher/ other better players to hopefully take me to my next level. There's also other things like being stuck on the same BPM on technical exercises and always playing the same licks and ideas on backing tracks. by rw1337 (Tue 3rd Jan 2023 10:57am)
  • Thanks! I played a lot of guitar watching the world cup, I wasn't even watching the game that much just enjoyed having something in the background while noodling. • Thanks that's useful. I'm guessing that not many parking officers work past 6 and that's partly the reason why it's free after that time. by rw1337 (Wed 22nd Feb 2023 11:16am)
  • If the conditions warrant it eg. road narrows, surface becomes worse, actual work being done next to road then most driver will slow down instinctively. However if the conditions don't change and there's just an arbitrary speed limit change then most people for naturally ignore it and keep going at 60/70. It's up to the entity managing the roads to design it better. by rw1337 (Fri 24th Feb 2023 5:58pm)
  • Cheers, Thornliebank looks close. Do they accept card ? Or cash / coins only? by rw1337 (Wed 15th Mar 2023 12:35pm)
  • Thanks all! Got my bike fixed up for spring. by rw1337 (Wed 15th Mar 2023 1:41pm)
  • Haha it's fine. I am careful and been doing it once a year with no issues. Co-incidentally I also took the bike in for servicing just today as it needed more grease in many places anyway. by rw1337 (Wed 15th Mar 2023 2:48pm)
  • Haha I do agree with you, they are marketing the small bottle very well but it's not really real kefir. by rw1337 (Fri 17th Mar 2023 1:04pm)
  • Thanks that's a lot of spots to explore! by rw1337 (Fri 31st Mar 2023 12:32pm)
  • That sounds amazing - might give it a try this weekend! by rw1337 (Fri 31st Mar 2023 4:10pm)
  • I figured plenty of people would be doing it considering Prestwick is close to residential areas and due to official parking there being very expensive? by rw1337 (Wed 19th Apr 2023 2:17pm)
  • Thanks that's an idea, I'll explore the place on street view. by rw1337 (Wed 19th Apr 2023 2:16pm)
  • I would if it wasn't unnecessarily expensive. 50-60 pounds for 4 days of parking is not reasonable. by rw1337 (Wed 19th Apr 2023 2:16pm)
  • Thanks, that's a good one. Will check it out on Google Maps. It's also good as I won't potentially inconvenience residents. by rw1337 (Wed 19th Apr 2023 3:00pm)
  • Haha that sounds interesting. It's close to airport as well. I'm saving this up more as my emergency option, e.g. ScotRail cancels train last minute etc. by rw1337 (Wed 19th Apr 2023 4:45pm)
  • Thanks for the recommendation! I did get a few quotes and while BK Gills was definitely the most friendly and enthusiastic, their quote was about 20-30% higher than the other two solicitors I tried. I suppose we're trying to think if it's worth paying more for their service as our property search is also time-critical - we're looking to exchange within the next 3-4 months and looking to make offers very soon. Any thoughts? by rw1337 (Fri 5th May 2023 10:20am)
  • Tbh I don't think Deliveroo drivers are into Reddit much.. by rw1337 (Thu 11th May 2023 10:31pm)
  • Got back from a trip to Italy. I arrived at a restaurant at Pisa at 23.15 and was still served delicious freshly made cuisine, the place didn't close until 01:00 on a Saturday. I'm afraid we just don't have the same food culture in the UK, people have lower standards and hence the food is worse as well on average. by rw1337 (Sat 10th Jun 2023 10:57am)
  • Zero hour is great for students / people who actually want to work part time. If you're over the age of 25 and still on zero hour while wanting to work full time then that's on you... by rw1337 (Fri 30th Jun 2023 8:28pm)
  • That's life.. by rw1337 (Fri 30th Jun 2023 8:38pm)
  • Most authentic Asian restaurants do this. by rw1337 (Wed 9th Aug 2023 1:56pm)
  • European here, lived in each city for 5 years. Prefer Edinburgh by a long shot. Glasgow has been getting gradually worse every year to the extent I don't enjoy walking in city centre anymore due to shuttered store fronts / junkies / antisocial behaviour. Meanwhile Edinburgh has been getting more and more desirable with new businesses and the festival gaining steam each year. by rw1337 (Sat 12th Aug 2023 11:52am)
  • Literally anywhere in Scotland besides for the main Central Belt cities. by rw1337 (Thu 12th Oct 2023 7:45am)
  • That's really unfortunate OP and I do feel bad for you. That being said, Scotland is not the liberal utopia the SNP wants it to be in real life. There's still a lot of folk on the streets who wouldn't look out of place in 1980s Belfast with values to match. by rw1337 (Wed 29th Nov 2023 10:19am)
  • Just goes to show how low IQ the average protester / poster on this sub-reddit is.. by rw1337 (Thu 7th Dec 2023 5:10pm)
