  • *Cough* Edinburgh trams *cough* by stejam24610 (Thu 16th Jun 2022 6:04pm)
  • But it's not just the most desirable parts of the city that are unaffordable. That's the point. The West End has always been out of a lot of price ranges. We are in a situation where the suburbs that traditionally would have provided a similar living experience to places like EK - albeit slightly closer to the areas with nightlife and so on - are now unaffordable as well. Just telling people to leave a city isn't really a normal state of affairs. Glasgow is a big city, you shouldn't be paying ridiculous rents to live 25 minutes away from the city centre/west end. by stejam24610 (Sun 3rd Jul 2022 2:20pm)
  • But the locations aren't particularly desirable in lots of places. To take the example of people paying more for living in the west end and apply it to people paying for places in the north and east end is missing the point. These places are only desirable because people can't afford to live in the actually desirable places anymore. I understand that's how the market works, but the post was saying the situation is mad. Which it undeniably is. by stejam24610 (Sun 3rd Jul 2022 2:25pm)
  • The fact that Glasgow has always been more expensive than EK doesn't mean it's always been mad. People would rather live in Glasgow than a small town outside of Glasgow. To pretend the market isn't mental is to just wilfully ignore what's happening in front of you and the experiences of people who regularly post in here. The value of the flats close to me have gone up in value by about 20 grand in the past eight months. by stejam24610 (Sun 3rd Jul 2022 2:35pm)
  • I was there. We were surprised when we got there at how small at was. As im sure BN was. But actually in the end it was pretty cool being at a venue when there were only 200 odd people there. My guess is as and when the full pie in the sky venture opens up that stage will be the second or third tier stage. BN didn't play any of his classics, which he rarely does, but played three hours and it was pretty much class from start to finish. Also I was there with the guy that posted the IG video above and I can assure you he doesn't work for Playground in any capacity and we were as sceptical about this as everyone else who's commented. by stejam24610 (Mon 11th Jul 2022 10:26pm)
  • Surely down to the decision of the operator, partly. Focus on Edinburgh not Glasgow. Glasgow Airport are all the negative things said in this thread, because they has flights taken away from them. Not much the airport can do about it really. Not a unique scenario across Europe, where they've gone from having flights to and from loads of cities to three or four massive airports where everything has to go through. That's a concerted effort on the part of the airlines and the people running the airport, I presume. Try flying through Bordeaux Airport, flagship airport in one of the most popular holiday destinations in Europe for decades, also one of the biggest areas for wine tourists. • The electric is one that I dug out of my parents and hasn't been used in more than a decade - the white plate is minging and the guitar in general has seen better days. I didn't want to start cleaning it with a household cleaner and wreck it further but I'll possibly give that a go by stejam24610 (Wed 10th Aug 2022 11:48am)
  • Cheers all, this is all very helpful by stejam24610 (Wed 10th Aug 2022 10:02pm)
  • Do any of these people read/watch the MSM? I find quite often the people who pontificate most about what is and isn't covered barely have any idea on what's being covered. "Surprised this hasn't got more coverage" = on the BBC, NYT, Mail, Guardian, Sun... by stejam24610 (Wed 19th Oct 2022 12:24am)
  • It's on the BBC. People only finding out a story for themselves months later that's widely reported doesn't mean it's not being covered. by stejam24610 (Sat 7th Jan 2023 11:00am)
  • Court reporting law means they can say very little about this until the trial begins. They even have to tread carefully when reporting about the suspects who killed themselves as they could jeopardise the case against the others. Any case, high profile or otherwise, is subject to these rules. You'll even notice eg a footballer who lots of people know not being pictured at this stage of a case because of these rules, let alone someone/people who are unknown to the public. by stejam24610 (Sat 7th Jan 2023 9:04pm)
  • Because they were a man at the time of the alleged offence, they had a different name. The charges include physical elements, which only make sense to the jury if you knew they were born a man. They also could hear physical evidence the alleged victims were physically dominated, which clearly again mean it's important to note the context of the accused's gender at the time. by stejam24610 (Fri 20th Jan 2023 2:40pm)
  • They can only report on what is said in the courtroom and in the documents. They can't just leave out what the charge sheet says if it discloses the previous name and gender of the accused. Let's not lose sight of the fact that two people were allegedly raped here as well. There's nothing political about this court story, only in the reactions of people who choose to interpret it through whatever lens and biases they have whichever side of the fence they are on. by stejam24610 (Fri 20th Jan 2023 3:29pm)
  • Cyclists don't deserve the hate any more than drivers do. What we have in Glasgow (and im guessing most other towns and cities in Scotland) is horrifically bad cycle lanes that are mere lip service to the idea of promoting eco-friendly forms of transport, like so many other things promoted by the councils and government. Also demonising transport by car when there is no other feasible alternative in many cases due to services or financial reasons pisses people off. And like so many debates it becomes tribal and the people really responsible escape criticism. Driving is a horrendous experience in Glasgow these days - closures, traffic, potholes - but it still costs me a pound a may max to drive 20/25 minutes into town for work and park 10 mins walk away where it is still free. It would cost me £5 a day to get the train which either gets me in 50 minutes early (at 6.10am for a 7am start) or 10 minutes late. It's an embarrassment. I digress, the real and justified anger of motorists is no excuse to attack cyclists. I've only ever been pissed off at other drivers on the road, the idea of bad cyclists is overstated. by stejam24610 (Tue 31st Jan 2023 7:22pm)
  • Council budgets being what they are the most obvious way to save money is to allow people to shoot other drivers - the logic being fewer drivers on the roads, will help preserve the road surfaces. Traditionally councils would have, of course, prosecuted people who shot others to death. 🤡 by stejam24610 (Thu 2nd Mar 2023 1:39pm)
  • Utter pish. It's Glaz-go. People say Glez-ga in a self-aware jokey way to other Glaswegians. Nobody when asked where they're from would say Glez-ga. by stejam24610 (Sat 15th Apr 2023 12:29am)
  • I'm from Glasgow and have never met a single person that said Glesga without it being deliberate. Don't doubt your experience, but whoever told OP this was normal was being disingenuous by stejam24610 (Sat 15th Apr 2023 1:13am)
  • Naw. I eat prawn sandwiches mate. Saying Glesga is for the hallowed working class. by stejam24610 (Sat 15th Apr 2023 1:10am)
  • It's front page news because he murdered his partner and their unborn child, not because he owned a sword. by stejam24610 (Sat 29th Apr 2023 7:28pm)
  • The one at Central is horrendous. As everyone says. The other one round on Queen St with the sit in bit is actually not bad. by stejam24610 (Wed 24th May 2023 11:20pm)
  • If they had a fan zone and an open top bus parade for tens of thousands of football fans they would earn far more money. But unfortunately our authorities are largely ashamed of the fact that football is by some distance not only the biggest sport in the country, but also one of the biggest things in our culture. Whether people like it or not. That's not to say that they shouldn't have something like the cycling here but it's the usual elitist behaviour from the council and/or Scot Gov. Not too dissimilar to Cop26 in some ways. (Don't disagree football fans have done a lot of damage to the city over the years but if you treat people like they're scum then behaving like scum bags becomes more acceptable within those groups for lots of people. Some are scumbags no matter what happens, the same as any large gathering) by stejam24610 (Mon 7th Aug 2023 9:03pm)
  • They're not paid to write the property stories. It's an easy thing to write which people read. It's just another version of the property supplements you get in weekend editions of papers, albeit they are paid for. Loads of people like to look at properties, cars etc they have zero intention of buying. A property story that's paid for would be marked as "paid promotion, sponsored article" etc. The same goes for stories about top 10 restaurants. More specific reviews of restaurants, hotels, holiday destinations are paid for in the sense the reviewer will get a free meal, free stay, discounted stay and so on. by stejam24610 (Wed 20th Sep 2023 3:13pm)
