  • Thanks, I saw that when I was looking, going to write the numbers down. Do you know if I need to wait until I am homeless to contact them or can they offer help /advice before hand by Brinsig_the_lesser (Fri 8th Jan 2021 10:50pm)
  • Thank you I will do by Brinsig_the_lesser (Fri 8th Jan 2021 10:57pm)
  • Yeah I was a bit panicked when I posted that I missed out some details I should have included I'm 20 but stay with my parents looking after the wee ones so I don't think the eviction ban applys to me. I will definitely be contacting shelter though thanks by Brinsig_the_lesser (Sat 9th Jan 2021 5:38pm)
  • I'm feeling better about it now more prepared for the eventuality I'm going to contact shelter see their advice. I'm definitely going to note what you have said Ive been putting whatever money I can aside just in case it did happen but it was the first few days before I found a place that was really scaring me. Thank you for your reply, I really appreciate it. by Brinsig_the_lesser (Sat 9th Jan 2021 5:43pm)
  • Looking back at the post there was a lot of key info I missed out I was pretty panicked when I posted. I'm a guy so don't think women's aid will help but I'm going to contact shelter and I might give women's aid a call see if there are any other orginiations they can refer me to by Brinsig_the_lesser (Sat 9th Jan 2021 5:41pm)
  • I'm going to be contacting people, I don't know why but I thought I had to wait until I was homeless to contact them. Thanks for your reply and setting me straight by Brinsig_the_lesser (Sat 9th Jan 2021 5:46pm)
  • Yeah that's what I'm going to do. Thanks for replying by Brinsig_the_lesser (Sat 9th Jan 2021 5:45pm)
  • Yeah I'm going to contact the groups that people recommend on here. Thanks for your kind thoughts by Brinsig_the_lesser (Sat 9th Jan 2021 5:50pm)
  • Thanks for your reply, I was pretty flustered when I posted For some context I probably should have included I'm 20 but still stay with my parents to look after my younger siblings, I don't know why but my mum is threatening to kick me out some days and others wants me to stay for as long as possible, I got a job recently and have been storing whatever money I make just in case I'm chucked out. It's the first few days I'm most worries about, before I can find a place to rent. What you've said though I've noted, I really appreciate your reply by Brinsig_the_lesser (Sat 9th Jan 2021 5:59pm)
  • Thank you I'm in my final year of uni staying with my parents to look after my younger siblings, I don't know why but my mum is threatening to kick me out some days and others wants me to stay for as long as possible. I'm kind of scared to share it with the uni tbh. I got a job recently and have been storing whatever money I make just in case I'm chucked out. It's the first few days I'm most worries about, before I can find a place to rent by Brinsig_the_lesser (Sat 9th Jan 2021 6:07pm)
  • Good to know, my initial post was vaguer than it should have been but I don't think it doesn't really apply to me but I'm glad you shared it anyway. sorry that happened to you it's information I hope I'll never need but if I do need it will be very glad I have. Thank you by Brinsig_the_lesser (Sat 9th Jan 2021 6:14pm)
  • Don't worry, I'm sure they will raise the minimum unit pricing try and price us out of drinking by Brinsig_the_lesser (Fri 21st May 2021 8:59pm)
  • I wouldn't go further east than dennistoun by Brinsig_the_lesser (Mon 24th May 2021 10:46pm)
  • I went to strath denistoun is a decent enough area at a decent price, plenty of students stay there but there's also families and that there as well. It's about 10-20 min walk from the uni. I would probably recommend at least having a look there. There's also the flats at drygate close to the necropolis, they are basically right beside the uni. I knew some students that stayed there but don't know how much they cost. There is also a lot of flats around the Saint mungos/ Kennedy Street area, I didn't know anyone who stayed there but they are very close to the uni 5-10 min walk and shouldn't be to expensive There's the merchant city as well also close to the uni, in the city centre but more expensive and I don't know what it's like in terms of noise and drunk people at night since the merchant city has a fair few bars and restaurants at it. On the other side of the Clyde there is the quay and plantation area, these are "up and coming" areas but are a decent price though I know a few people that have moved there recently but don't know much about the area. You would probably want to take the subway (which is pretty fast and reliable in Glasgow) or get a bike to get to strahclyde if you stay there. Like other people said strathy is pretty close to the city centre so you can get a bus or train there easily from pretty much anywhere in Glasgow or the surrounding area. Hope this is some help by Brinsig_the_lesser (Mon 24th May 2021 10:59pm)
  • You're optimistic if you think we will get put in 3 once the football is over, I reckon they will put us in 4 after all those mass gatherings (just to be safe of course/s) by Brinsig_the_lesser (Thu 27th May 2021 10:28pm)
  • But you do by robbing them of their life and freedom so they may as well be dead? by Brinsig_the_lesser (Sat 29th May 2021 2:34pm)
  • Yeah the other guy shared a link to it but you can book support. When you book you will have one meeting with a councilor where they will have a chat with you discuss your problems and what they can do to help. You will then get put on a waiting list to see a different councilor, you get 12 sessions with them (either once a week or once every other week can't remember sorry) where you either go with a goal of something you want addressed (CBT) or a more general chat (like therapist in movies) but the first councilor will explain all of this to you and are generally pretty good. The only problem is there is generally a waiting list and I don't know how covid will have affected it. But definitely sign up for the service as soon as possible because there is other services they can provide in the meantime until your actual sessions. There is also (or used to be) a group CBT session you could go to but that always seemed pretty daunting to me and I never went. Though looking back now I think it could have been quite good of I had. Hope this is some help by Brinsig_the_lesser (Tue 1st Jun 2021 4:31pm)

  • Lots of good advice One thing I haven't seen mentioned is your radiators might need "bled" I would suggest watching a YouTube video on that as you will probably have to do that at some point anyway. Also if you aren't to embarrassed asking your neighbors is probably the best bet by Brinsig_the_lesser (Mon 16th Aug 2021 6:52pm)
  • I think that might be the plan tbh, Google maps and first bus plan your journey were saying there wasn't the 267 or 263 running for whatever reason but not sure if that's just a glitch with the app since I haven't seen anything on their website about it. by Brinsig_the_lesser (Wed 25th Aug 2021 6:54pm)
  • Nor could I which is what confused me, I usually use Google maps and it's saying most first busses aren't running so I checked the first bus app for Sunday as well and it's plan your journey feature said there wasn't any busses either (but I think it uses Google maps to do it so that might be why) by Brinsig_the_lesser (Wed 25th Aug 2021 6:52pm)
  • No I checked that as well, set it to a variety of times and no joy, it's advice was if I want to he there by Sunday I should get the last bus on Saturday. Today I checked the bus times for next week just to see if it was only Sunday that was acting up but it wasn't showing any busses for then either. So my current theory is I was looking to far ahead and Google hasn't got next week's bus times yet for whatever reason. I've checked the paper timetable and going to trust it's correct. Anyway thanks for your help I appreciate it. by Brinsig_the_lesser (Thu 26th Aug 2021 11:53am)
  • How do you know they are straight? Is this a case of them not fitting into your stereotypes enough by Brinsig_the_lesser (Sun 5th Sep 2021 6:56pm)
  • Didn't realise they were a franchise until now, only knew about the central one. Do you know if it's owned by a big company or is it just a second location opened by the owner? by Brinsig_the_lesser (Sun 5th Sep 2021 7:12pm)
  • Again how do you know they are cishet then? Other than just applying your own stereotypes to them. by Brinsig_the_lesser (Sun 5th Sep 2021 7:18pm)
  • Please continue being a bigot and trying to erase members of the LGBT+ society. Thankfully the wider community is calling you out on your bs by Brinsig_the_lesser (Sun 5th Sep 2021 9:53pm)
  • Damn you discovered the conspiracy everyone that calls you out on your shittiness is actually a computer program. But on a serious note the truth hurts doesn't it and it's clear you aren't going to improve yourself anytime soon. So maybe start a club only for LG people since you have such a problem with BT+ people being at LGBT+ clubs by Brinsig_the_lesser (Mon 6th Sep 2021 10:41am)
  • there we go again you calling BT+ people straight. by Brinsig_the_lesser (Mon 6th Sep 2021 1:17pm)
  • Less about life deteriorating and more about loosing my shame. They don't have any shame and make more begging than most do working so it's a no brainer for them by Brinsig_the_lesser (Mon 6th Sep 2021 9:00pm)
  • They never lost it, they never had it. They come from a different culture that promotes begging and stealing than yours and a mistake people is whitewashing and erasing peoples cultures and imaging they are just like you. Don't get me wrong I'm sure they have shame and there is stuff they wouldn't do, it's just not the same things we would feel shame about which is why your whole argument is built on a poor premise by Brinsig_the_lesser (Tue 7th Sep 2021 9:47am)
  • Even when you get a PCR test though you swab yourself don't you? From talking to people who have been tested you do for the drive in centres, you do for the walk ins, and you certainly do for the home PCR tests. Is there any test were others swab you? by Brinsig_the_lesser (Tue 7th Sep 2021 9:51am)
  • Because it's not, I'm talking about a culture that you are trying to ignore, The fact that you are trying to say that they do it because of their race is really fucking alarming. by Brinsig_the_lesser (Tue 7th Sep 2021 2:50pm)
  • Thanks for reiterating that I'm talking about culture, you know the thing that needs addressed of peoples outcomes are to improve You're the same sort that got upset with those charities that improved sanitation in India aren't you. Getting upset that the first thing they had to address was Indian culture, trying to get the charitys shut down for being racist since they acknowledged that their culture is different to ours and street dedication was common in it. by Brinsig_the_lesser (Tue 7th Sep 2021 3:22pm)
  • Anecdotal but from talking to people negative tests seem to get returned within 24 hours positive tests take longer by Brinsig_the_lesser (Tue 7th Sep 2021 5:28pm)
  • Honestly depends where and what you're applying for, if you're applying to big companies Aldi, Tesco, KFC that sort of thing then you will probs struggle or I did anyway. Small companies and local/independent businesses I had better luck with even going in in person and asking if they were looking for employees, plus they are generally more decent with you than corporations. Industry and hospitality is desperate for people, tons of pubs are hiring right now The central Scotland job centre Twitter posts vacancies daily Depending on your age (if you're less than 25) you are pretty much guaranteed a job through the job centre kickstart scheme, it's min wage but you also get traning in new skills that should get you a job after it. And most importantly getting a job can be hard stick at it and don't beat yourself up to much by Brinsig_the_lesser (Fri 10th Sep 2021 11:59pm)
  • I've kicked people out for not filling in test and trace or just taking a pic and pretending to. The best/oddest people are the ones that tell me they always put down fake details anyway as they are filling it in like that's fine I won't serve you, I check their ID or give the number a ring and when their details inevitably don't match they get chucked out. by Brinsig_the_lesser (Sat 11th Sep 2021 12:04am)
  • Yeah it's an 8-12 week window for getting the Jag Not a medical expert either but I imagine it's like taking all your medicine in the morning when your ment to take half in the morning and half at night Anyway by law you don't need a vax pass and there is "no plans for it for restruants" but I imagine private business are free to refuse service without proof of they wished. by Brinsig_the_lesser (Sat 11th Sep 2021 12:13am)
  • And 2 months ago we were never going to have a vaccine passport because they were unethical but here we are. If all the restrictions were put in place at once too many people would protest. • You're right within reason you still have to wait the min 8 weeks since that's is the min time between jags for it to be effective but after the 8 weeks then yeah you can show up to a drop in centre by Brinsig_the_lesser (Sat 11th Sep 2021 12:15am)

  • *Covid doesn't go away full stop You could keep us in lockdown for the next twenty years of you wanted and there would still be covid when we got out of it by Brinsig_the_lesser (Sat 11th Sep 2021 12:47am)
  • Yeah that my point you just made thank you, I've never heard you call people selfish for going out during the winter despite the number of people the flu kills each year, you've learned to live with it just as you will need to learn to live with covid by Brinsig_the_lesser (Sat 11th Sep 2021 10:08am)
  • Exactly that's why I don't understand why you want the virus to be as deadly as possible to as many as possible for as long as possible, I don't know how you think the common flu and other viruses stopped being deadly to people but it wasn't magic it was by people being brave enough to go out and build up a resistance to them by Brinsig_the_lesser (Sat 11th Sep 2021 7:58pm)

  • I don't know if you mean what I do or what they do. If them I don't know what goes on in their head, they could have a few reasons, not wanting to get contacted and have to isolate, "not being a sheep", every citizens duty to rebel against the government, being difficult for the sake of it, who knows why. If me legally I have to if nothing else, id also rather people were told if they might have covid and need to get a PCR test, that's all it is there's nothing nefarious going on. It's also nesecery with the number of staff that have came down with covid in the last month a fair few customers must have it as well by Brinsig_the_lesser (Sun 12th Sep 2021 9:08pm)

It seems like a massive covid risk to me gathering people from all over the world with unknown strains tightly together so they can scream and yell by Brinsig_the_lesser (Fri 8th Oct 2021 10:44am)
  • It's not just policymakers and people working on making the right decisions You've also got a fair few protesters with to much money on their hands flying over to scream and shout well away from the event so they can have a wee holiday while also feeling like they are making a difference. The later also has the brass neck to ask for free accomodation and food, ontop of donations to cover flights since what they are doing "is so pivotal" by Brinsig_the_lesser (Mon 11th Oct 2021 1:17am)

  • I was at a gig there a few weeks back and it was bad lots of sound issues, you couldn't here a word the the first group sang or said and then the actual people group I went to see the mixing was bad and would get louder and quieter through the speakers during the song. Lots of people are involved with sound and they might just have had a bad night and I've only been once so listen to what others say as well. Unrelated to sound their bar never had any drinks on draught (during the CO2 shortage so fair enough) got a can for £4.50 when I first went in, but after that there was no chance of getting a drink, the que was to long and if you tried waiting for it you would have missed most of both groups by Brinsig_the_lesser (Mon 18th Oct 2021 6:59pm)

I wonder if the tracker still thinks it's a 75, X18 and that's why it's not showing up when you search where the 267 is on its route. by Brinsig_the_lesser (Tue 10th Jan 2023 3:49pm)

A locals opinion is better than whatever places the algorithm is currently promoting. smaller and locally owned businesses are more likely to be said by someone commenting on this sub and personally Ive found more than a few places I've liked by looking through those friends The flair just seems needlessly passive aggressive. by Brinsig_the_lesser (Fri 13th Jan 2023 6:45pm)

But even if you disagree with that teachers don't just need a degree you need a postgraduate education (I know some primary school teachers get in with just a BA) Healthcare is such a wide net it's pointless arguing over it, sure the cleaner doesn't need a degree the surgeon does. As for train driver that's the most middle class job out the three. • I was talking about the age thing the overwhelming answer seems to be that queer children know their sexuality when they are in nursery You are getting hung up with the neurodivergence and queerness, the link is well known. I would almost be more shocked if you weren't (a bit of hyperbole) Do you deny that people with autism can struggle fitting in and making friends? >And yeah, queer people are literally FIGHTING FOR THEIR RIGHTS, and part of why we have to do that is because attitudes like yours still exist. You had the opportunity to to educate someone who was asking to be educated. You never It seems like you want to fight more than you want rights for queer people by Brinsig_the_lesser (Wed 12th Jul 2023 3:53pm)
  • >Educate yourself. It’s not my job to do that >queer people are literally FIGHTING FOR THEIR RIGHTS So you are willing to fight but not talk and teach? Dialogue is what is required for rights and acceptance If every queer person was like you LGBT people would be no where near as accepted as they are. • I could but it is quicker and easier to ask people directly. Of someone was exhausted they could just not answer it If I googled it I doubt I would have got the answer of 3-6 for LGBT people and 9-13 for straight people, that really did suprise me The thing is you didn't have to "fight" you chose to you went out of your way to try and make an enemy out of someone trying to learn by Brinsig_the_lesser (Wed 12th Jul 2023 4:57pm)
  • That's a hell of a lot of projection and assumptions Here's the thing you didn't "call me out for ignorant thinking" you did the opposite you were looking for a fight because I actively sought education and asked questions You actively encourage ignorance, and going out your way to avoid reducing ignorance You care about the fight, if you cared about rights you would have educated not attacked and tried and make an enemy by Brinsig_the_lesser (Wed 12th Jul 2023 7:16pm)

People work from home so no need to be in the city centre People go shopping online so no need to be in the city centre It only really leaves socialising in the city centre, so overpriced pints and a lot of the activities you can easily get public transport or there will be a similar thing closer to you. Houses cost more and you get less in the city centre Living in the city centre seems hellish to me, small compact flats with people on every side of you, can't open your window because of pollution or noise at night, a lack of greenspaces etc I'm sure there are positives but I just can't see it. When I was at uni or when I had to be in the office every day I probably would have liked it but not now. by Brinsig_the_lesser (Sat 26th Aug 2023 9:09pm)

  • I've read your comment several times and can't see any positives. The only reason I saw was "people are desperate" and "public transport isn't going to improve" People are desperate so they will pay more for less and as a consequence everything will cost them more for the duration they live in the city centre. I acknowledged entertainment and amenities but those are in decline and cost more than they do outside of the city centre, other than the very niche activities (and even some of them) can be found outside of the city centre by Brinsig_the_lesser (Sun 27th Aug 2023 10:17am)

  • >all universities are good universities. this old idea of "good" nornally just means snobby This isn't true some unis are better than others and some are just crap. Which uni you go to can have a massive effect on your future, especially your early career. A good uni can have more industry links and you will have got yourself a job before you even graduate. Aim as high as you can go op, don't settle just because they will take you Not all unis are good and they are definitely not all good at every subject >don't be instantly put off though even with grades below entry sometimes you will get an entry interview This is partially true, talk to the individual uni about it before applying. It will depend on how popular a course is. You might be wasting your UCAS option, you might not be, only the uni can tell you. For instance Glasgow uni law has significantly more applicants than they have spaces, so they don't even read your personal statement never mind an interview, if your grades are below the requirement they will immediately reject you. >always a good idea to have multiple options lines This is absolute true, don't put your eggs all in one basket by Brinsig_the_lesser (Fri 1st Sep 2023 7:19pm)
  • Like others have said it's far from the end of the world and you still have this year And you might qualify for adjusted entry through a diversity target/poor area entry requirements adjustment The big thing is figuring out what you want to do/study at uni by Brinsig_the_lesser (Fri 1st Sep 2023 8:06pm)

  • That one has completely different results. Your two links disagree with each other proving my point about them being unreliable. Despite the issues with the 1st one caused by poor sample size and data gathering methods, the 2nd one is worse. The 2nd was a consultation, you need to ask yourself who would take the time to fill it in? Only people that are passionate about the issue. That was shared on the local Facebook busybody pages and amongst similar groups. (As evidenced by the results) Normal people wouldn't have even have known the consultation was going on All that consultation shows is the views of less than 0.3% of the population who have enough time to fill in a long boring multipage from. • Manchester is a significantly cheaper airport to fly from, it's also generally faster having more direct flights than Glasgow. Many Glasgow flights involve a layover in London unfortunately. • Manchester is much larger than Glasgow I've heard Glasgow described as a smaller Manchester Manchester is significantly more diverse than Glasgow It's got a lot more varied foods than Glasgow It's got a great music scene Great nightlife It's easier to travel around the UK from Manchester International travel is easier and cheaper from Manchester Glasgow is probably friendlier (so I have been told from international people) We also have a decent music scene as well by Brinsig_the_lesser (Mon 30th Oct 2023 7:31pm)

  • When you say murdering you mean killing the people who declared war on Israel with the goal of murdering all Israelis And when you say displacing you mean not letting the Palestinians move back after their attempt to murder all the Israelis failed. Before the war many Palestinians fled so it was only Israelis that remained, understandably the Israelis were upset at purposefully being left to die and never let the people that abandoned them move back as of nothing happened by Brinsig_the_lesser (Sat 11th Nov 2023 10:48pm)

  • People take affordable homes of the market. This landlord is doing more than most to combat the housing shortage Seeing they are apparently housing someone in a living room by Brinsig_the_lesser (Sun 19th Nov 2023 5:43pm)
  • If they were being altruistic I doubt they would house people so efficiently and the overall situation would be much worse At the end of the day people need to start being honest about the cause of the issue not enough housing being built and more and more people are trying to stay in Glasgow by Brinsig_the_lesser (Sun 19th Nov 2023 6:43pm)
  • Would you pay £1300 for that? No, the only people paying that are people from outside Glasgow that don't know any better. Landlords charging high rents discourages people from moving to Glasgow, reducing pressure on housing At some point people need to be honest and admit the problem is that not enough houses are getting built. If the only thing that changed was getting rid of landlords like that then the situation would be much worse by Brinsig_the_lesser (Sun 19th Nov 2023 10:31pm)

  • I would say it's worth it, it costs £30 and has paid for itself multiple times over. One or two intercity trips and it has often paid for itself. There are some caveats to it though, it's goal is to encourage lessiure commuting, so it doesn't really work before 10am on weekdays for trips within the city. On weekdays before 10am the most it will discount a ticket/trip to is £12. After 10am or on the weekends it will discount any ticket price. I also don't think it works on the Glasgow subway, though I think it does on the London underground. As for ScotRail season tickets I believe it's currently cheaper just to buy an off-peak ticket each day rather than a season ticket, you check the maths in that yourself. The Glasgow subway does a smart card which is slightly cheaper than a regular ticket. by Brinsig_the_lesser (Sun 26th Nov 2023 9:45am)
  • It still won't work before 10am, regardless of if the ticket is peak or off-peak. Before 10am it will subside (or raise) a journey within a city to £12 Justification used to be that it was to encourage leisure trips via the train not to subside commuters by Brinsig_the_lesser (Sun 26th Nov 2023 11:30am)
